Display Arrangement - Menu Bar

Hi!
I have recently upgraded to Lion and I am experiencing a problem with the External Monitor.
When I connect it reads ok and I have the external monitor as my main screen. However I can't use the other screen (MBP). When I go to Display > Arrangement the blue screens with the bar disappear. If I click Mirror Display they are both there and grouped but again when Mirro display is off there is no way to select which monitor should be the primary and the position of the screens.
How can I do? Third party softwares perhaps? Is this a bug? It wasn't the case with Snow Leopard!

You got me experimenting ... and it was viewing the display with the green button (rather than amber) on the left that revealed the menu bar.  Hovering didn't do it.  Thanks for your help.  First time in Apple Support.

Look at SecondBar gives you a second menubar

    Also see DejaMenu
    Also see MenuEverywhere (Shareware)
And if you happen to have a Magic Trackpad, the SecondBar author has a very nice BetterTouchTool utility for creating Magic Trackpad gestures.  I can not live with out BetterTouchTool on my 27" iMac with 24" external monitor.

  • Mirroring doesn't display in menu bar even with option checked

I have my late 2011 MacBookPro hooked up to an external monitor to extend my workspace at the office.  I can go into Displays in the System Preferences and choose to mirror displays.  When I check the option to "Show mirroring options in the menu bar when available", no menu bar option shows up.  Worked perfectly fine pre-Mavericks.
How can I get the display menu bar options to display on this laptop?
    Thanks

    Have a look in:
    [Your HD]/System/Library/CoreServices/Menu Extras/
for "Bluetooth.menu" and try double-clicking it.

  • Mirror display no menu bar

    Hello,
I have a mac mini with no thunderbolt port.  I am using DVI to monitor and HDMI to HDTV for a mirror display.  The TV does not show the menu bar at the top of the screen.  The TV does not have any size adjustment options.  The underscan option in system preference is greyed out.  The menu bar does show on the monitor  What do I need to do on the mac mini to get the menu bar to show on the TV?

With what is Happening, & I don't know why since I do not have the same equipment & circumstances, is to use Extended Displays & change the monitor that has the Menubar before they move one, another possibility if you can't get warning is to set up an Admin user for each Monitor situation.

  • Looking for a way to hide/collapse the display of menu bar items

I've searched the web but I cannot find any utilities that would allow me to hide the items on my menu bar, which is getting a bit cluttered. Particularly when some programs are running, if those programs have a certain number of drop down menus, the menus on the right hand side overlay some of the left side menu bar icons. It would be nice to be able to collapse & un-collapse the menu bar icons when desired.
Not really a problem on my PowerMac which has a 23" display, but moreso on my 15" MBP.

As an aside; if you need to keep several apps fairly close to hand without cluttering the menu bar or dock, create a folder within your Applications folder, and place aliases of the apps in there, then drag the folder to the dock below the divider (next to the trash). Right click on the folder in the dock to get a pop-up list to choose from. I use the same idea for frequently used files and games too (seperate folders)

  • Display Hide Menu Bar Button

    Hi all,
We want to display / Hide or Unable to Click on Button of Menu bar on run time i.e. User select particular radio button on screen and menu bar button changes accordingly.
    Any suggestions welcome.

    Hi Friend,
Take the function code of the buttons which you do not want to display. Pass into an internal table, code it like:
    SET PF-STATUS <'PFXX'> EXCLUDING <INT TABLE NAME>
Please check the documentation for int table's type.

  • Fullscreen on 2nd Display, remove menu bar?

This may seem picky, but it actually affects a lot of my day.
I have dual monitors, and often play video or use Parallels for work on my 2nd display, but then work natively in OS X on my 1st display. Regardless of what I'm working in, if I am trying to work in full screen on the 2nd monitor, I always see the faded menu at the top. If I click on to the fullscreen content of the 2nd monitor, the menu goes away, but if I am actively working in something on the 1st monitor, it reappears on the 2nd monitor.
This sounds small, but means that I can't fullscreen anything unless I stop working and click on to the 2nd monitor.
Any thoughts on how to remove that? It's incredibly annoying.
    Thanks,

A neat example, which works well on OS X is given here:
    http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/extra/fullscreen/example-1dot4/DisplayModeTest.java
I also suggest this link for further explanations:
    http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/extra/fullscreen/example.html
Finally, I'd like to mention that because of the nature of exclusive full screen mode and possibly an implementation error on Macintosh, contextual menus (Popup menus) may not work as expected. I observed two behaviors:
    - contextual menu are simply not drawn or not visible
    or
    - once a popup menu is closed, the screen turns black
I have devised a rather short pure-Java work-around which solves both problems, and is multi-platform friendly.

Your's may look more like this...
...if you're running Mountain Lion. I'm in clamshell mode right now, so I don't have any mirroring options. AFAIK, there's no more "Show displays in menu bar" in Mountain Lion.

  • What plist holds preference for energy saver menu bar display?

I have a Powermac and Powerbook. Using Leopard Sync of Preferences, the option to display energy saver status in the menubar has migrated from my laptop to my desktop - so now I get a blank entry in the menu bar icons where the battery status symbol appears on the laptop - you can click on it and it shows a greyed out menu (saying "No batteries available").
Because I have "no batteries available" on the Powermac, the energy saver preference pane is missing the option to 'turn on / off' display of battery status does not get shown. So I can't turn this preference off on the Powermac, and am stuck with this gap in the menu bar icons.
Presumably the display on menu bar is displayed as the result of a plist setting somewhere - but there is no obvious 'energy saver' preference: does anyone know where this setting is controlled, and if it is possible to manually correct the problem?
    Many thanks

Do you know that holding the command key and clicking on a menu bar icon allows you to drag it left/right, or down from the menu to remove it? Removing it would probably sync the change back to your portable, which isn't desirable, but you could try dragging it all the way to the left so the empty space isn't as obvious on your desktop.

  • Spry Menu Bar- Display content below menu

After playing around a bit in DW as I am still very new to it I have gotten a menu bar setup with the appropriate links. I have been using frames with the top frame that displays the menu bar and the bottom frame to show the content. This works but since each tab drops down 4-5 items i need to make the top frame longer so all items display but leaves a lot of white space when it is just the menu bar showing by itself.
What other method is there that I can use  that will display the menu bar AND display the contents below it?  Im sure this wont be possible using frames so is there an easy way to do so in dreamweaver?

Its intended to be run locally so I dont have a link but here is the html for my index file. As you can see I have set the top row at 200 so it will display all the items in the menu bar when a user hovers over one of the bars. What I am trying to do is eliminate the white space by setting the top frame to around 60 but doing so you wont be able to see the drop down items. Make sense?

  • Menu bar location

    Hello All:
I am using JMenuBar to create a menu bar, and the menu bar is supposed to be displayed by an applet. Could someone tell me how the menu bar can be relocated? In other words, I would like to move around the menu bar and to be able to change the location of the menu bar. I appreciate your feedback, and please let me know if you need more information.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
Your feedback is greatly appreciated. What I meant is to be able to set the location of the menu bar. I am looking for a property like location in JPopupMenu. Indeed, there is no such a property for JMenuBar. Then, it was very easy to use setLocation(x, y) and giving different values to x, and y will relocate the menu bar. You are right; there is a property in JToolBar called floatable that will give the user the option of dragging the tool bar and dropping it in a favorite place. Thats not what I want to do. I need to find the best location by x and y values, and have the menu bar located there, and the user wont be able to drag and drop it. There are a few other ways to deal with this, for example, adding the menu bar to a JFrame, or using a Layout manager but I dont want to do it this way. JFrame is a good choice if I can hide the frame and just display the menu bar; Layout manager is not flexible because it does not offer the location property.
    Thanks,

  • Linking Menu Bar with views in the same window

    Hi everyone,
I have a menu bar in a view and I would like to link each one of the elements with other view through an URL. The problem when I do this is that the view appears in a different window and I want that appears in the same window. Because if it doesn't, I'm going to have one window for each element of the menu bar :s
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
As per my understanding, your requriement is: (Correct me if i am wrong).
You have one default View and Window. In the View you are displaying the menu bar. Each menu bar item contails one specific URL. When user clicks on any of the menu bar item you need to open the corresponding URL in the same View.
    1)  Take the view set with two rows. In first row add the default MenuView (menu bar) and in second row embed another View (For example: ResultView).
2). In RestultView create IFrame UI element (Note : it is deprecated). And bind one cotext attribute to url.
Map this context attribute to MenuView also throug the Component Controller.
3). Create inbound plug to MenuView and outbound plug to ResultView. On click on any of the menubar items change the URL in the context attribute and then navigate to the ResultView through plugs.
