Display artifacts

I just installed the firmware update today and now I have display artifacts showing up on my screen. Here's a screenshot:

Any suggestions of how to fix this? They show up around windows that are in the background, but not around the currently selected application.

First repait the permssions from the install CD not form your drive
Second do a deep zap PRAM followed by safe boot
To do so zap the pram and hold for 3 chimes then immedialy hit the shift key
To do a pram zap hold command option p r before starup chime and hold

  • Mac Mini (Mid 2011) display artifacts HDMI to DVI at native res

    Hello,
I recently changed monitor configurations and in the process moved my Mac Mini (Mid 2011) to a HP LP2065 monitor.  The connection is made through the stock supplised HDMI to DVI adapter.   The monitor and the DVI cable work successfully with other machines.
What occurs is only certain colors, usually black,  result in the display being red and/or sparkling and/or static (like TV static) when the monitor is set at its native resolution of 1600x1200.
If I bump the resolution down to 1280x1024, or lower,  the black color returns and I see no display glitches.   If I bring the resolution back up to 1600x1200,  the display artifacts return.
A few google searches suggest I use a DisplayPort to DVI adapter instead as some monitors are "finicky".   Does anyone agree with that?  It seems peculiar to me -- why would a digital signal have analog-looking glitches?
Any ideas welcome.. thanks for reading

Your monitor has a native pixel resolution of 1920x1200.  There is no point in trying for 1080-p or -i.
I run two 1920x1200 monitors via HDMI (with passive cable adapters where necessary) and I use these choices:
...and they are both pixel-sharp, filling the screen, and yet menu bars totally visible!

  • Display artifacts (mostly on 3D apps)

    Hello,
My MacBook Pro 17'' (stock, Core Duo 2.16 GHz) has display artifacts. They happen under normal usage, but not very often; however, if I fire up certain apps, like Front Row and then the DVD Player (though not DVD Player.app directly), or 3D apps like Google Earth, the artifacts show up every time. Click the thumbnail below for a sample when running Google Earth:
The artifacts are sometimes static and sometimes travel wildly around the screen. To me, this look like faulty video memory (specifically texture memory), but I'm hoping I'm wrong. Has anyone seen this problem and know of a fix?
    Thanks
MacBook Pro 17''/Core Duo 2.16 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

An update: I have AppleCare which comes with this diagnostic app (Techtool Deluxe), which includes a VRAM test. I installed and ran this app from the hard drive (will do it from the boot CD if someone says there's a difference).
Initially I ran this VRAM test without any video-intensive app open, and it says VRAM is OK. Indeed, I usually don't have problems unless I'm running a video-intensive app. Now if I open Google Earth and leave it in the background as the test is run, it passes too, despite the fact that there are artifacts in Google Earth's screen. However Google Earth's screen isn't being updated, so I tried a different test: I zoomed in a lot in Google Earth so it started fetching data from Google's servers and updating the screen. At the same time I ran the test. Doing this, the VRAM test failed, but now I'm unsure whether that's due to faulty video memory, or just because the test wasn't meant to be run this way. Could someone else with Applecare (or who bought this app standalone) try the same test on a functional MacBook Pro and tell me whether the test fails?
My next step is to install Windows using BootCamp, see if the same problem happens under Windows, then run a video card overclocking tool to underclock my VRAM and see if the situation improves.
    Thanks

  • 2012 macbook pro retina display artifacts on screen when using onboard video

2012 Macbook Pro Retina Display artifacts on screen when using onboard video.
About a month ago I've noticed these strange artifacts (blocky pixelated looking) running vertically down the screen. It first started when using Safari. Then it started to happen all the time. I turned off the auto switch video in preferences, which I'm assuming forces the computer to use the separate video card and the artifacts go away.
On top of that issue I also have had the ghosting issue.
    Anyone else have this problem?

artifacts onscreen could mean a faulty gpu. You said by forcing it on inbuilt gpu you do not find this issue highlights that. Do take it in to apple for service and also tell them of your ghosting issue.
There are a few retina owners who have faulty gpus.

  • Display Artifacts on MBPr Multi-Monitor Setup (+Solution)

    Hey everyone,
I'm fortunate enough to have access to 3 MBPr in 3 different environments. I've confirmed that this bug is present on all MBPrs:
    How to replicate:
    - 2 1080p or higher monitors, one using a DVI -> DisplayPort adapter and the other using HDMI or HDMI -> DisplayPort (It doesn't matter)
    - 2 external monitors arranged so that they are "Above" the internal display and the internal display is centered, below both monitors (I'm talking about the Displays Arrangement tool, not necessarily physically, FYI)
    - Move your title bar so that the RIGHT external monitor has the menu bar.
    - Your MBPr is setup to Scaled, "More Space" (1920x1200)
With this exact setup, you have now introduced display artifacts at the bottom of your retina display.  Specifically near the bottom left. You can replicate this every time if you use mission control to display all spaces. (Swipe up with three fingers on trackpad).
The severeity of the artifacts changes from MBPr to MBPr and depending on how centered your retina display is. I believe this is a spaces / geometry bug when using scaling.
To work around this issue, simply move your menu bar to the LEFT monitor, or keep it on the internal display. You can also re-arrange the displays to make this go away. But I find having the menu on the left is the least impactful work around.
Can anyone confirm what I'm posting here?

Great information. I can confirm that fixes the problem... But unfortunately it isn't ideal, since my MBPr is below my two external monitors. I'd rather have the menu bar on one of the two monitors...
Sadly this issue is still present on OSX Mavericks. But since it has menu bars on every monitor, I might be able to get away with making the MBPr the primary  monitor... Will test to confirm.

  • Display artifacts when waking from sleep...

My G5 runs 24/7, and the display goes to sleep every night when i'm not using it.
Lately when i wake my computer from sleep in the morning, i get artifacts all over the screen on various graphics... the artifacts are typically a bright teal color and they are about 1 pixel tall x 5 pixels in length.
I know artifact like this usually appear when the Video Card is overheating, which is odd because the card isn't and has never been overclocked...
I did just recently upgrade to the Apple 30" display from the Apple 23" display, i'm wondering if this has anything to do with it?
i've got the NVIDIA GeForce 6600

I would reseat the video card, clean any dust from the inside of the computer and then run the Apple Hardware Test. Post back and let us know what you find.

  • Strange display artifact

I have been seeing a strange on-screen artifact and wonder what kind of problem this indicates.  I'm using a Mac Pro 2.8 GHz quad-core Intel Xeon running OSX 10.6.8 with the stock ATI Radeon HD 5770 graphics card and an Apple 23" Cinema HD display (2 actually).  The artifact shows up in the top corners of the Firefox browser window and in the top corners of the Apple Mail application window.  They don't appear at startup, but later in the day.  The artifacts look like this (3 jagged lines in the very corners):
    <IMG src="http://www.fomovideo.com/apple-macpro/Screen_shot_2012-06-18_4.47.33_PM.png">
    <IMG src="http://www.fomovideo.com/apple-macpro/Screen_shot_2012-06-18_4.48.17_PM.png">
    Anyone seen this before?

    Grant,
First of all, thanks for replying.  I can understand that the jagged lines are not screen artifacts, but I didn't know what else to call them.  Can you offer some more details about why these marks could be due to a third party application?  I'm not asking what you think they mean because you already stated you don't know; I'm asking how such marks could be produced by any application running on a computer when the marks aren't part of any kind of normal operation of any application that I've ever seen.  BTW, the third-party gadgets you saw belong to Color Munki screen calibration, Stuffit Deluxe magic menu, Intego Internet Security menu and Intego internet incoming/outgoing traffic monitor.

  • Top display artifacts - or just normal?

I was slouching in my chair today, to the point where I was looking from below up at my display and saw some weird dotted artifacts on my menu bar. There are two horizontal lines of dots that go on top and beneath the menu text all across the screen. They can ONLY be seen if you look from beneath upward. Here's a screen shot that shows it:
    http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h44/NYCMBP/screen.jpg
I tried booting from the DVD and it's still there and it shows when I use Grab to capture the whole screen too. Anybody seen this before and is there anything I can do about it? Not that it's a big deal, but if I could do something about it I'd do it.

I just connected my macbook to my cinema display and can't see anything there either. On the macbook, there are lines of jagged dots as I described above. On the Cinema Display it's just smooth with no jagged edges or dots at all.
So that would seem to indicate that it's the macbook display. Anybody else have this?

  • MSI Gaming N770 TF 2GD5/OC display artifact issues.

Hello gurus of all things msi! My latest question has to do with my shiney new gtx 770 which is performing flawlessly up until it hits ~55 c then memory artifacts start displaying like I have the frequency set too high.
This is running it with no tweaks or using the msi gaming app to overclock it so I fired up afterburner and kombustor to see what was up.
After letting kombustor run a bit the temps started to rise but so did the tpd which instantly hit 97% on kombustor launch then pegged at 100% right as it was nearing the 55~60 c range then the artifacts started to appear.
So is this bad memory/gpu/etc or is my psu insufficient to drive the card? I'm leaning towards insufficient power as it has plenty of amps on the 12v rail(50amps) but maxes out at 630 watts and the minimum rated supply needs 600 watts.
A related question is I had to manually set the fan to increase in speed as the temps rose as the built in fan speed control wasn't actually increasing the fan speed as the gpu heated up so might this also be an issue?
I can supply screen shots and logs if needed.

Welp turns out it was leftover driver bits from back when I first built the system and used the intel integrated just to see how it worked.(which btw is actually quite well as long as you are not into serious gaming)
Was pulling my hair out in frustration as I had plenty of power after adding up all the wattages figures for my devices and the fact as long as I underclocked the card it ran without issues.
Then I decided to try a complete driver wipe and googled up ddu and ran it and noticed the intel driver still loaded up somehow so deleted them along with everything else and ran a fresh install of the latest nvidia drivers and now all is well.
So if any of you users are having odd problems you don't think you should be having keep at it till you figure it out.

  • DNG files display artifacts in Lightroom but not in Camera Raw

I've been scratching my head over this one for a few days so hopefully someone here can help.  Some of my dng images are showing artifacts in Lightroom 3, see attached file as an example.  However, if I open these images in Camera Raw 5.7 the artifacts are gone!  The artifacts are also gone when I view the DNG in Windows Live Photo Gallery. The images are stored on a gigabit network server with the LR catalog file on the local Win 7 PC.  One other thing I noticed is that for some images (not all) the artifacts will show up in the Library module but disappear when viewed in the Develop module. There are no "damaged file" error messages for Lightroom when viewing the affected files.  I tried clearing out the Camera Raw Cache but nothing changed.
So my questions are:  Are these files damaged or not? Is there a way to fix this problem. Why are they showing up fine in other image programs?  Is there a utility that can verify the integrity of a suspect DNG file?

  • T61 display artifacts (blue stripes and red shadowing), external monitor is fine

    Hello everyone!
I have a Lenovo T61 laptop that's just (in March) ran out warranty and obviously developed peculiar single-pixel-level artefacts. Now I know that these kind of problems are generally solved by buying a new laptop, but I'm not convinced that this isn't a software problem. Given below are my observations, so, engineering minds, let's unite and please help me solve this.
    Relevant specs:
    OS: Windows XP SP3 & Ubuntu 11.04
GPU: Nvidia Quadro NVS 140M (version 266.58)
    TFT Panel: 1440x900
    The big problem:
White display areas have every other column in cyan (Image A), black areas have red shadowing (Image B). The artefacts are present in both OS and in the BIOS screen as well (which is really bad, I know). Red and cyan is both due to the red channel, so we can narrow this down, other colours are displayed fine.
The PECULIARITY of this artefact is that it is only present for:
Cyan columns - pixel values above 247
Red shadowing - pixel values below 4 (And I mean EXACTLY those values, value of 4 - no artefacts, value of 5 - completely unbearable. See Image C, where this display is photographed while showing two patterns with only that slight variation is pixel values. Patterns are attached as D)
Middle gray (value 127) causes flickering, while 128 is perfectly fine.
    Solutions tried so far:
Reinstalling GPU drivers - no avail
Setting display contrast to < 35% in Nvidia control panel - artefacts dissappear nearly completely.
I've never heard of such a thing, but since the causing values are so exact I can't believe that this is just fried panel or a broken cable.
    So what do You think?
    Regards,
    Lukas

    Welcome to the forum!
    Your GPU is failing.
Lenovo might or might not fix it, although it's out of warranty. They are *extremely* well-aware of the problem that plagued these chips.
Reading related threads here or on Bill Morrow's ThinkPad Forum will reveals hundreds - if not thousands - of similar cases...
    Good luck.

  • Firefox Desktop 15.0.1 Displays Artifacts at bottom of page when scrolling up or down

Black artifacts flickering at bottom of window when scrolling up or down. It is a black bar with no content, sometimes occupying 30% of bottom part of window.
However, Microsoft offered an emergency fix-it for IE on September 20, 2012. This problem went away for few hours. Installing the critical update for IE allowed FF to run without this issue for two days after install on September 23rd.
Why that would be, I cannot say.
Have a screenshot of FF when this happens. Bar is very small ATM, but flickers just the same. Normal artifact extends from left side to right side; only a partial bar is caught with this screenshot.
    Where to attach screenshot?

  • Display Artifacts :: C2D 17" MBP

So, I've had my 17" core 2 duo macbook pro for about a week. Last night the screen developed artifacts, and they wont go away.
Wow Apple, what stellar build quality on your 2800$ machine.
Here is a screen shot of the corruption: http://www.censoredamerica.com/applesucks.png
This really turns me off to Apple... A lot. They are going to send me an email about a replacement, but the fact that there isn't one shipping overnight to get here tomorrow is just another bad sign for Apple.

This might come under the problems being currently fixed by logic board replacements. I used to have some threads with info on this, but Apple decided to keep it 'hush hush' and removed the posts....
So call for a repair quickly, there might be delays over the christmas season.

  • IDVD themes w motion menus-photos display artifacts/blinking on DVD

I have recreated many versions of a couple of DVDs based on the Reflection theme (in Themes 6). My photos in the drop zones "blink/jump" vertically usually along the same horizontal line. For example the eyebrows or cheeks of people jump up and down and are very noticeable. Extreme ends of words on posters do the same. I even created saved single picture slideshows from the same photos....identical blinking at same spots. I have used every type of photo source and tried burning with Best Performance and Professional Quality to no avail. No sign of blinking in the iDVD project before encoding with the last version 7.1.2 of iDVD. The blinking involves color changes too.
No similar problems with any of the non-motion menu themes. The Revolution Theme shows the same defects.
After 4 days of trying every variable I can come up with, perhaps the expertise in the community has an answer.
    Thank you.
    iMac 2.8 GHtz core i5, /4 GB/OS 10.6.8

Hello  Bengt.  Agree all your criteria for best results. I make a lot of DVDs and for many years have used only Verbatim DVD-Rs burned in a beautiful Sony DRU-840A at 4x. However, before burning too many coasters, I always create a disc image and check it out via DVD Player. These blinking defects are visible in the motion menu drop zones. Hence it appears to be solely a function of the encoding etc as I tested a wide variety of photo sources. Movies in the drop zones appear to be w/o defects unless they are masked by the movie itself.
Sadly I really like the Reflection theme and if the DVD is for family only. I usually accept the less than static sliding photos. Probably most viewers don't even notice the blinking !
I have acquired FC Studio HD but have not attempted to use it yet as iDVD does such a beautiful job. Fortunately it appears Apple elected to give iDVD the 2xVBR encoder from Studio Pro as a final round of support. It has been useful when my DVDs are near the max allowed on a single layer DVD.
Spent many good times in your part of the world, business and pleasure. Crayfish .......
Thank you for input to this truly perplexing issue.
    Kind regards, Ken S
