Display Brightness Turns Down at Tecra 8100

Hi:
I have bought a used Toshiba Tecra 8100 - after two month without problems the monitor suddenly turned down the
brightness - at the beginning the turn-down was only few, now it is quite often.
I tried already several things: first I thought it was because of the old battery ... but after buying a new one the problem was still there. Sometimes after freezing
several times by closing or just by pushing the freezing
button it works fine. Until now I cannot find a source of
the problem (also changed the power settings ... doesnt matter) ... therefore I am quite at the end of my nerves - besides this little, but highly critical problem I am still very satisfied with this fine computer.

I too am in the same situation, but I just wanted to clarify the problem. The machine boots up fine, but occasionally the backlight fails completely. This is quite sporadic although rebooting invariably fixes the problem (temporarily). Is this a software or a hardware issue?

Contact Rhapsody to see if they have or plan to release an update for the app. Try uninstalling and reinstalling the app. Have you tried resetting your device by pressing and holding the Home button and power button until the silver apple appears?

Laptop display auto turning down

My laptop display is turned down automatically after 20 minutes of idling. Now i want to disable this function, but I can not find a config where it can be done (not in pm configs nor in acpid confs). Please give me advice what should I do.

I just installed pm-utils and acpid. Wrote handler on closing laptop and nothing else. So I can not imagine why it goes offline...
the lack of a desktop environment is also useful information.
pm-utils does not handle dimming.
i dont think you can switch off after a timeout the display with acpid.

Reduce display brightness on iMac

I have just received my new 27" core i7 imac.. The screen is a bit bright for me but I can't find a way of making it a bit darker - any ideas?

You can adjust it by going to System Preferences -> Displays and turning down the brightness there. If that doesn't do the job well enough for you, you can also install a third party app called "Shades", which works well for me:

Unable to turn down display brightness

I just unboxed a new Macbook, and I am unable to reduce the display brightness. Neither the keyboard brightness (f1) nor the slider in system prefs > display work; you can pull the slider down, but then it bounces back to full brightness. Has anyone else seen this?

If you have the ambient light sensor on and are under bright lights, that could be the outcome. You can turn off the ambient sensor to see if that is the issue. The check box for this is right below the slider you referenced.

I have issues with display on my tecra w50-a-114. *Display sometimes (ca in 5min. period) blink (brightness go on 100% and then back to the current settings).*
I dont know whats happened. I am not aware that I changed some settings. I check all power management settings, but every setting is in my opinion alright.
Have any of you Idea what's happened?

I guess the display brightness level changes no matter if the notebook is connected to the AC adaptor or battery mode? Is this correct?
Usually the function keys FN + F7 and FN + F8 increases and decreases the computers brightness.
But I dont think that theses function could be related to your issue.
To me it sounds a little bit like display panel hardware problem but this is only my personal opinion

T440s Turn off auto display brightness

I'm trying to turn off the auto brightness on my T440 but nothing I found so far is working.
I edited all power plans and it turned off the Auto display brightness in windows 8.1, and i also disabled the "Display Power Saving Technology" in the graphics control panel under Power.
It's dimming even with cable plugged in. If the screen consists of mostly black images, it dims.. if there is white, it brightens.
Any help how I could fix this is appreciated! I have latest everything, all drivers, etc. I have latest System Update 5 update manager which downloaded and installed everything possible.

I seem to have fixed it.. but not sure what it was, I did a few things. I did another update which downloaded a Dependency manager which was critical.. and I also did a safe mode start which failed to start and nearly bricked the machine.. only a CD was able to revive the boot process.. it would boot to a blank screen with no start options even available.

You have installed the OS manually and you didnt use the Toshiba recovery CD. Am I right??
The fresh Microsoft OS does not contain the Toshiba drivers and therefore the drivers for the FN functions must be installed additionally.
The problem is that you will not find any drivers for the Windows XP for the Tecra 8100.
The WinXP drivers are not available and therefore you cannot use the FN keys

Accidentally turned down brightness on mac book pro

I accidentally turned down the brightness of my mac book pro all the way down last night. Now, the screen is totally black. How do i get it back to normal?

Need a display driver (s3) for Tecra 8100

I have installed Windows XP pro on my tecra 8100 and can't get a full screen.
Does anybody know what's wrong? Do I need a new display driver voor the S3 Savage MX or is it something else?

Tecra 8100 , Display dark

Hi Folks,
the Display of my Tecra 8100 goes after 10 Minutes of working, dark. Its not the Screensaver,absolutly ! Cause I hear the sound of my Games continously.
Sometimes, if I reboot the Display comes back,or If I push the FN + F5 Keyboard combination, but not always.
Can somebody tell me what wrong with my machine ?
Is a repair expensive ? Questions,Questions...

Screen turns black after opening the notebook. It will reappear after i turn the brightness button down.

The screen turns black after the book has been closed and is now opened. sometimes it does this, sometimes it does not. If i turn down the screen brightness by using the brightness keys at the top left of the key pad, then the screen will reappear.

MacBook display brightness will not adjust

My MacBook display brightness is very low level, the F1 and F2 brightness keys bring up the transparent window and show brightness turned all the way down, but F2 does not increase the brightness. In Preferences, the display section shows the Brightness slider all the way to the top, and if I attempt to slide that down it snaps back to the top, and the actual screen brightness does not change from very low. I also have verified that the function keys are NOT set to lock out the brightness function, so pressing command and F1/F2 does nothing. So nothing from previous forums seems to apply! All other function keys operate properly (multi-window, volume, dashboard).

OK guys, think I found a solution to this one.
My girlfriend's mac had the same problem as yours, and I was motivated to fix it becuase I needed to use my mac for my dissertation and she kept stealing it!
anyway, turn the brightness all the way down, press it up once and you will see the screen flash. do it again, really fast up and down up and down and the scree will stay on as long as you keep playing with the buttons.
next, use this temporary fix to get into system preferences -> displays... and change the resolution to something considerably lower. then it stays on permanently. Not too sure about why this happens, maybe the mac can no longer handle that many colours or complexities?
