Display Bug with Wifi indicator

Not sure if this is the best place to submit bugs, but, there's a bug with the wifi indicator.  If you switch network locations, where one has no Wifi adapter, and the other does.  Switching to wifi-less, and then back to with-wifi results in a busted wifi indicator in the menu bar.
As you can see, Wifi is connected (Network Pref panel), but the Wifi indicator in the bar is X'ed out.

  • HT4199 Mac Cinema display interfering with WiFi connection

Year-old MacBook Pro works fine with WiFi UNTIL I plug into my older Mac 21" Cinema display - which I need to do via Rocketfish adaptor, and a female firewire adaptor. Plug in - offline. Unplug - back online.
I have messed with network settings repeatedly, and got things running for a small pocket of time. Restart the day after, back offline.
Note that my older MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard doesn't have this issue - only the new computer, which requires the adaptors to do so.
Any help is greatly appreciated - this is killing productivity!!!

Actually, Niel is half-right. After searching for over a month, and researching all sorts of options that "might" work, I went with the Atlona Dual-DVI to Mini DisplayPort (see link above - discontinued so you'll have to look on Amazon or eBay) and the Apple Nvidia 6800 GT DDL video card (look on eBay for approx. $70-$100).
To achieve full native resolution on the Apple 27" Cinema LED, (2560x1440), you'll have to have both a Dual-DVI to Mini DisplayPort converter/adapter (like the Atlona), IN ADDITION to one of the higher-end "build to order" video cards like the Nvidia 6800 GT DDL or Ultra DDL which can support resolutions greater than the stock 1900x1200 on a single DVI-equipped stock card that came with most PowerMac G5's.
Hope this helps clarify a little for those looking to stretch the lifespan of those bastardized G5's. ;)

  • Does cinema display interfere with wifi?

Sometimes I use my laptop (macbook pro) just on its own, and no problem connecting to wifi... then if I plug it into the display and sometimes the wifi drops... Maybe just irregular boadband service, but I wonder if adding displays or bluetooth or anything like that causes problems with wifi? Anyone else had this experience?

Could...been reported before. Try changing the channel on your router.

  • Macbook 5.1 display bug with 9600m GT (GPU2)

    Hello,
I have a bug with my Macbook Pro 5.1, (late 2008) with mavericks 10.9
The performance display mode is bugged with the 9600M GT : Some fakes screens appears with this mode.
I tried to reswitch to the GPU mode 1 (9400M) with terminal on boot and it works.
But I cannot use the GPU 2 and performance mode (the graphic card 9600 GT).
Is it a display driver bug ? Did Apple update the drivers of the 9600m GT Gpu on mavericks ?
    Thanks !

nevermind.. i just need to adjust my Logitech Control "effect" settings to DPLII Movie/Music.

  • MBP 13 retina late 2012 - display problems with wifi

    Hello!
I writing you about a problem i'm having since i bought my MBP retina in October 2012 but now that i'm in Russia is really worring me. I've been in a Genius Bar back at home in Italy but i couldn't show them the problem with the display because it was very occasionally and it never happened while i was in the apple shop. The apple genius run a kind of testing program and apparently my mac is ok. Now i also know that this problem happens only when the wifi is on. The display is flicking ( i hope this is the correct word) and actually it was just rarely in italy but since i'm in russia i can't use my mac while i'm connected because this problem is constant and much much stroger.
I noticed that the only way to stop this problem is to make a bridge with my finger from the alluminium chassis of the mbp to the black part at the bottom of the display. If i do this the flickering stops. So i'm somehow thinking it is an electric problem, and maybe in russia there is a different tension in the electricity or something else that makes this problem bigger.
I will also traveling for the next 5 months and so i can't bring my laptop to an apple store in italy. I don't know if i can bring it to another apple store around the world to fix the problem, and i don't know if i will have a 2 years warranty like i have in italy.
I'm very angry with the genius i've been in italy because he didn't believe my problem and he didn't investigate further. I was there in April or May and i still had the first year warranty. Now i'm traveling for the next 5 months and i super need my mac because i'm a travel blogger and as u can understand it is very important for me.
I hope someone can help me.
    Thank you
    Dan

thanks! yeah i recorded it so i hope they will take the problem more seriously.
Unfortunately i don't have an applecare protection plan, but i hope that the proof that i've been in an apple store for the same issue already in april will help me somehow.
I also think that when i touch with my hand both chassis and display i make some connection working again. Maybe i'm the radioactive man, or i have some special powers...or for the first time time in my life i bought a bugged apple product. But i think is more possible one of the first two options!

  • Macbook Pro w/ Retina Display Issues with Wifi with Bluetooth.

I have a Macbook Pro with Retina Display, 2.3 Ghz model.  I've noticed that while on wifi, when I use a bluetooth mouse or even turn on bluetooth on my computer, the wifi performance severely decreases for a short period of time.  While using a bluetooth mouse the wifi intermittently fails and I need to shut off wifi and turn it back on to correct the issue.
Using the ping utility on terminal I have confirmed this in that when bluetooth is turned on, a large number of packets are lost for about ten seconds.
Has anyone else been experiencing this problem and is this an issue I can correct myself or should I contact Apple?
    Thanks

I have the same issue with my macbook pro with retina display. I have 2 macbook pros. I never would of thought that a bluetooth signal was interfering with both of them. I had a gateway wireless router that only had 2.4 Ghz 802.11 b/g, which is the same frequency of bluetooth. I know that bluetooth bounces from channel to channel, whereas wifi sticks to one constant channel (normally). I have reinstalled my mac twice, thinking that somehow my drivers were corrupted. This was false becuase everytime I reinstalled it did the same thing, Act fine for 5-10 minutes and randomly the internet connection would freeze up all together for 10-20 seconds. I have also tried contacting apple multiple times and they tried to do a smc and pram reset. They also tried to get rid of my chaches in my computer. It all seemed to be fine, and then when I got off the phone it would act us once more.
I have read numerous articles to try and fix the situation; one of them was to try change the location of the network and change the MTU size. No help. I called At&T (my internet provider) and got a new router and that did work for a while. But eventually acted up again. The router was still 2.4 GHz 802.11 b/g. I read this article and found out that my Magic Mouse might be causing the issue. Turns out to be true. Everytime I would browser the internet or browse the itunes store and it would freeze, i would immediatly turn the bluetooth off and what do you know, it works!!! This is a huge dissapointment in apple however. It seems to be only a macbook pro w/ retina display issue. My other macbook pro only acts up when i'm using my newer one (something is wrong with the bluetooth and wifi in the retina for the 2.4 ghz frequencies.
I just got a Airport express, and have not experienced this issue what so ever. This is due to the fact that it is a dual band wireless router. It supports 2.4Ghz and 5 Ghz both at 802.11 a/b/g/n which is a major improvement compared to what I had. I use the 5Ghz frequency and have no issues still.
This is still an issue however because if I want to go out and use anothers persons wifi, I can't control their frequency. So I will still have this issue.

  • (CentOS5) huge display bugs with jdeveloper

    hello,
I have CentOS5 (like RHEL5 but free) and I have installed compiz and emerald on it.
I downloaded jdeveloper (file : jdevstudio11114install.bin) and the installation is a success, but when I launch it the menus, the toolbars and the visual JSF editor have some bugs : they are not displayed well, and when I hover on an element with the mouse , sometimes it appears.
I can't use this program in this state.
    is it causes by compiz?
    can you help me?

    Hi,
you should use the JAR installer for JDeveloper and ensure you have a decent Java SDK for your OS.

  • Display bug with new catalyst driver & xorg

    Hello everyone,
I have just updated catalyst (fglrx) from fglrx 8.40.4 to catalyst 7.11-1 and Xorg server from 1.2.0-5 to 1.4-5. Indeed I have an ATi Radeon Xpress 1100 (RS485) on my laptop.
Everything is well except...this bad bug :
almost each time a window is created (xterm, dialog box which pops up, firefox ...; there are maybe other trigger events) a strange blurred square appears at the bottom right corner of my screen, and my cursor has a strange trail, as if a piece of widget was attached to it. The cursor trail disappears quickly, but not the square. I have to switch in console mode and to go back to X to make it clear. It is composed of pixels of different colors.
Does someone have the same problem ?
Moreover the driver gl (or gl2) does no more work with mplayer, I have to use the x11 one, but glxgears is ok and I have, according to glxinfo, direct rendering enabled.

There are many problems with the latest AMD xorg driver.  To fix the display corruption, add
    Option "XAANoOffscreenPixmaps" "true"
To your fglrx device section in xorg.conf
Also, try disabling AIGLX - it's not working well and is known to cause some problems.
    In xorg.conf:
    Section "Extensions"
    Option "Composite" "Disable"
    EndSection
    Section "ServerFlags"
    Option "AIGLX" "off"
    EndSection

  • 3.12 Bug with WiFi and non broadcast SSID?

I seem to have a bug. I can reliably replicate this on my phone and after talking to others, they mention the same issues.
    Setup:
WiFi that does not broadcast its SSID and is protected (could be any protection, mine happens to use WPA Enterprise)
    How to replicate:
-> Add the new network, set the network name (ssid), username, password, JOIN.
-> You are joined to the network.
-> Do something that verifies you're on the WiFi network (e.g. visit http://hostip.info in the browser)
-> Set phone down, or sleep it.
-> Wait a few seconds... wake phone.
-> It should re-connect, but won't. It has forgotten the network connection was ever there.
Describing this to others, they say they had to turn on ssid broadcast... this is not an option for me since it's a work network, and it's their security configuration to not broadcast the ssid.
Any help or can we get this confirmed as a bug and get it tracked?
    Thanks...

  • Photoshop CS4 Menu toolbar display bug and fullscreen slowness...

    http://img384.imageshack.us/img384/8202/menutoolsbugee3.gif
I'm having a display bug with the menu toolbar in Photoshop CS4 Extended. Notice the area of tools is gone and replaced by random pixels? This happens whenever I enter the fullscreen mode that hides the interface. And when I exit that fullscreen mode, that bug appears and doesn't fix itself until I restart Photoshop. Can this be fixed?
Image view rotation also happens much slower than normal in that fullscreen mode when interface is hidden. But performs normally after I bring back the interface.
I'm on WinXP, Athlon 64 4000+, 3GB ram, GeForce 6800 GT video card [driver 169.21]. I'm not sure if this is a video driver bug or CS4 bug.

Yeah, Dave, I can understand how that can happen. I've seen that sort of weirdness when I've seriously overtaxed my hardware.
    <br />
<br />Had way too much running all at once yesterday, switched over to Firefox, and clicking on folders in the Bookmarks bar, I had 4 bookmark/folder menus dropped simultaneously.
    <br />
<br />I managed to grab a screenshot with 2 of them showing, but man! You shoulda seen it with 4!
    <br />
<br />I ESC'ed out, quit GarageBand (had a song project of several hundred MB going) and all was fixed.

  • Minor display bug in JDev 11g "View Annotation" with Subversion

    Hi all,
A very minor visual display issue with the "View Annotations" feature of JDev 11g when using a Subversion repository. To reproduce, simply follow these steps:
1). Open up any source file and right-click in the editor; select Versioning -> View Annotation. The annotations will be shown, and if you right-click again, you will see a check-mark next to the "View Annotation" menu item.
2). Open another source file. Annotations are not shown. Right-click in the editor; you will see that "View Annotation" menu item displays a check-mark (even though annotations are not shown). Select Versioning -> View Annotation. Annotations are now shown, but you will see the check-mark is no longer displayed.
To summarize my analysis; it appears that "View Annotation" was intended to be a global setting (as indicated by the check-mark), but is actually implemented on a file-by-file basis. Obviously a very minor display bug not affecting functionality, but a bug nonetheless.

    John,

  • 1.5.1: Bug with single keystroke bind value being displayed but ignored

I just ran into a bug with using with bind values (run as statements) using SQL Developer 1.5.1.54.40, JDK 1.6.0_04, Win XP SP 2.
If the bind value was previously Null (NULL checkbox checked), then typing one (and only one!) character into the Value field displays the character and deselects the NULL checkbox but is ignored when running the statement - the bind variable is treated as Null. Running the statement again redisplays the bind dialog and the NULL checkbox is deselected but there is no value in the Value field.
    For example: select rpad(dummy, :length, dummy) from dual;
When running this as a statement and typing a value between 0 and 9 into the Value field results in null (ie select rpad(dummy, null, dummy) from dual). Running again and leaving the Null checkbox unchecked and typing the single character again produces the correct result (ie 9 produces 9 Xs). Running again and checking the Null checkbox and typing the single character again produces null again.
This only occurs where you type a single key stroke in your bind value. If you type two characters and then delete one, the bind value is used correctly.

  • Bug in wifi/wireless connection with captive portal in UK/London ?

With my macbook pro (10.6.4) & iphone (iOS 4), I do not manage to have an easy connect on free wifi captive portals in London. They all are new connections (unknown networks before).
    * dhcpd lease seems to be instable. I can get wifi connection (with good wifi signal strength) but most of the time get a "non-allocated" lease like 169.254.57.x/24 without any router/dns. A few rare times, the dhcp server give a me a complete ip connection.
    * in the rare case where IP connection could established, I was not redirected to the captive portal. I had to manually enter its address (in my case <IP>:8000, you need to guess) and even after authentication, I can't browse the Internet. In one of my test, I managed to resolve dns entry but can't browse the web.
I tried during an hour and I couldn't make it on work on my Macbook. work a small time with the iPhone.
tested in McDo free wifi and Airbox Public Wifi of EasyHotel (Airbox system). also have problem with "Wifi Zone - The Cloud".
ok in Starbucks and in St Pancras Free Wifi.
Found these threads which could be related but no real solutions:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=11875166&#11875166
This is probably the router's fault but I can't check this.

Hmm...pretty interesting. What redirection mode did you use for m0n0wall? (http or dns) Have you tried disabling the NAT on the router as well as unchecking the block anonymous internet requests on the security tab?
I have a similar setup on a T1----media converter----WRT54G setup. Basically, the router was able to get public wan ip addresses on the status page. So do the computers behind it (wired and wireless) but they aren't online. We pinged the three dns numbers on the router, only 1 replied. Now, the ISP has Cisco all-access installed on the converter (quite similar to captive portal) and it shows up on every computer when we try to go online. We open up the browser, it prompts for the authentication. We fill-in the details but still it doesn't go online. Bottom line was we cloned the mac of the main computer and they didn't need to authenticate...but then again it defeats the purpose of the software.
Also, the router was set as a DHCP server with NAT enabled. I'm thinking that the router's firewall still blocks your computers even when it's already set as a switch. Try to disable the NAT and see if it works.

  • Tty display problems with nvidia and uvesafb

I'm trying to get my console to display correctly at 1080p; trying to do so through GRUB was always an absolute nightmare.
The console displays fine with nouveau, but nouveau causes the infamous pink line bug, which is simply too irritating to ignore; nouveau is not an option.
In the past, my console has run at low res and incorrect scale with nvidia, but I've ignored the problem since I prefer to use a virtual terminal in X.
Now, if possible, I need to use the actual console for the purposes of module development.
I installed v86d and uvesafb and configured the console for 1920x1080 and 32 bit depth.
The console is displaying with the correct resolution now, but is surrounded by a black border, making the font distorted and extremely difficult to read.
How can I get my console to scale correctly to fullscreen? Any ideas at all. I found nothing in the forums or wiki, and I'm out.
I'm fairly certain there are no vga or video settings in GRUB that are interfering.

Also, it might help to describe the behaviour more specifically / more in depth...
The rendered part of the console occupies the same space as the GRUB boot menu.
I installed and configured virtualbox a few weeks previously.
I ran "sudo depmod -a" as the wiki / forums indicated it could remedy problems with virtual machines failing to start.
It did fix the virtualbox problem; after reboot, suddenly lightdm *also* initally occupied the same window space as grub.
That was new behaviour. When I logged in to xmonad, the desktop displayed similarly to GRUB.
I hadn't tried fixing it; logging in with root followed by "ps -e | grep X" and "kill -9 <Xpid>" caused X as a whole to start behaving and scaling normally.
I haven't rebooted until attempting to rectify the issue with my console.
The oddity with scaling in lightdm and xmonad still shows up after reboot and is still reparable by killing X.
Killing X doesn't - obviously - have any effect on console scale.
