Display cable too short
does anyone find the apple led cinema display cable too short, any solutions, extension cables available? I use 2 of them for editing and can't fit them because of short cables
I use the Dr. Bott 2m extension cables. But they are not the only ones that make monitor extension cables.
Google: apple 27" led display extension cable
Note these are for the older apple 27" LED display with a mini-displayport. Is that what you have or the newer thunderbolt 27" display? At the moment a quick google search did not turn up any TB extension cables.

My wife just got a white Macbook (2009 refurb). The usb ports are on the left side and the optical drive on the right. She is used to a mouse and doesn't care for the track pad. The wired apple mouse we have, has a very short cable and it barely wraps around the back of the Macbook.
Beside the obvious "why are the cables so short" or even better, "why are the usb ports on the left", "how do you extend this cable?"
tiaHi,
USB extension cables of various lengths can be found nearly everywhere (Amazon, BestBuy, etc.).
Here's MacSales page on such http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/accessories/Cables/USB

Multiple 30" Cinema Displays, cable length too short
I have two 23" Cinema Displays, and they work great! Power adapters have long clean leads and can put them away from my G5 and place the displays where I want. Then I bought a 30" Cinema Display to try in prep for a "Nehalem" machine. I discovered that the power adapter has to be 6 inches away from the back of the computer and the monitor cable is SHORT. I want to use two 30" displays, but the cables are too SHORT and I don't want those two white bricks (power adapters) behind a new Nehalem. Apple says you can run up to eight 30" displays, with the necessary video cards, but no mention how to reach the second display let alone the 8th display!! Does Apple have cables in a male-female configuration? I have looked at Gefen.com and their extensions are Male-Male for the Apple Combo Extension Cables for dual link (30"). I could say demeaning things right now, but I won't.
Thank you for the quick reply, I can place the power adapter where I want with your solution. You would have posted if you knew about an extension with an "elegant breakout for connection to DVI, USB and FireWire ports" but I will still ask if you know of that kind also so that all monitors have USB and FireWire.

24" LCD has Super short mini-display cable that does not reach
I was setting up a 24" display (on an LCD arm) and i noticed the mini display cable is very, very short. It does not reach to the Mac Pro under the desk. I guess the 24" displays were made for laptops and did not expect that the cables would need to reach under a desk.
I couldn't find a Mini-display to Mini-display extender. Does anyone know of one?
Anyone considering two 24" monitors might want to review their own setup, to see if it works with the exceptionally short mini display video cables on the 24" display.
Message was edited by: Charles BaroneCharles, did you ever find a solution for this problem? I am ready to get a new Mac Pro and 24" display, but a 3 foot (1 meter?) cable is about two feet too short. I don't want to have the MP box sitting between my feet so it can be within 3' of the connector at the back of the display. I talked with someone at the on-line apple store today and he checked with an engineer and looked at the cable that comes with the display, and it was indeed only ~3' long. Since this type of monitor connection (the mini display port) is supposedly going to become the new "standard", I would hope that companies (e.g., Belkin, etc) will have high quality but longer cables available. I assume that the cable you have has the same mini display port plug on each end, and no adaptors are necessary?
If anyone has a solution to this short cable dilemma, please chime in!

Is LED display video cord too short to use with Mac Pro?
I've seen the new 24-in cinema display used with a macbook and noted how short the cord is. Now I'm thinking of getting the new Mac Pro with that same display but won't the cord be too short for me to set the tower near the floor on the side of my desk? I don't want to have to set that tower ON my desktop just so the connector will reach the minidisplay port.
Any thoughts?I have exactly this set up, and it (just) works for me.
The cable is about 42" from the back of the monitor to the three connectors at the other end, which allows me to have the Mac Pro on the floor, and the monitor on my desk. Obviously, it will depend on your desk height, cable access, etc., but it was a bit of tight fit, so you might want to get out a tape measure and see it will work for you. -
Aux cable for Mini Cooper too short for Iphone.
Just purchased a Mini Cooper and the AUX cord that connects the Iphone to the Bluetooth is too short to reach my vehicial mount. I need a longer cord or an extention. Anyone have any ideas?
You said it was an aux cable. nothing you said indicated it was proprietary in any way. If it is not an aux cable, but a dock cable, those are usually proprietary to the auto manufacturer. If they don't have anything, try e-bay, but beware the cheap chinese junk out there.

Apple Mini DVI to DVI Adapter - Too short?
I want to connect my iMac 2.8 ghz, 24" screen to an external Philips 190B LCD monitor and use the Extended Desktop function.
The Philips Monitor model is the 190B6CG/00 and it is a single link monitor (Philips tell me it is DVI-D Receptacle Connector 24 pin = single link).
I'm looking at the Apple Mini DVI to DVI adapter here on the Apple Store. It looks like it should plug into my iMac one end then the other end into my Philips. However it looks like it is too short to reach my Philips Monitor. They are not a fantastic distance apart. In fact they are sat side by side - but I somehow can't see the Apple Adapter being long enough (unless it crosses a 3-sphere).
Presumably then, some sort of extension is required between the DVI end of the Apple adapter and the Philips Monitor's DVI input.
Does anyone know what this extension could be and where is may be purchased?
RegardsHello to everyone who has replied to my cry for help.
Thank you all. I will apply points to everyone who has responded (so quickly too).

I totally agree. I have been thinking along these lines too. However, searching on the internet whilst researching, I found it difficult to decide what I needed because of the 'photos' supplied. They were ok as such but most didn't show very well the pin outs. Further research into the matter (and one website in particular - i.e. Maplin) made me realise that GENDER was involved. Also, with DVI, females look like males in web photos until you find a photo from the right angle. Same goes for VGA I reckon.
I'm certain most people looking at DVI (and VGA) cable/connectors can't tell the difference when the devices are only viewed from 'above' . In my opinion they need to be viewed more or less end-on to show where they have pins or holes. I mean full end-on, not at an angle where (as I found above) detail as to pin or hole is lost in digital or compression noise. This is what I have experienced in all but one of the web sites I have visited. Another thing, most websites have an 'enlarged version' button which, if selected, shows the same photo exactly the same size. No help whatsoever. But then there's no doubt you must already be well aware of this.
MyHighway
You are correct. The Philips did come with a VGA cable. However I want to connect to my iMac digitally (if I can) using DVI (it looks like a 'female' connector on inspection of the back of the Monitor). I have found it almost impossible to tell the difference from most photos on the web even with my new huge screen iMac. One of the reasons I'm am a little nonplussed I think.
mrtotes
Good point. If I take a photo of the back of my Philips and take the Apple connector down to Maplin perhaps I can compare and contrast with real specimens. Yo!!
I think I will give that a go.
You have all been very helpful indeed. Opened my eyes somewhat.
I wish a Merry Christmas to all my new Mac friends -
DVI to VGA adapter. Too short?
Hello.
Please do not blame me for being ignorant, I recently had to do a project and in order to connect to the screen, I need to use a DVI to VGA adapter, which is provided when I bought my MBP.
But then, isnt it too short? How do I connect it then? Must I buy a extension? Do help me as my project is due next friday and I must present next friday. Thank you.Allan Jones wrote:
The sequence would be:
Mac > Adaptor > VGA cable > Monitor or projector
Right - except when actually hooking them up, they should be connected in the reverse of that sequence; the projector should be on and seeking an input, the cable and adapter should be connected, and the final step is to connect the adapter to the MBP. -
Error "602" System error: AK Datapart too short
Hi all,
Ok, I have looked just about everywhere for an answer to this but to no avail...I even tried under a few rocks we have laying around.
Anyway here it is:
While running a compression in BW we get Error "602" System error: AK Datapart too short.
This is happening while doing a select statement during the compression of the infocube. It does not happen all the time, just kind like when ever it feels like. The only note I could find in OSS was one about Live Cache and it does not seem to apply.
Here is the dump which I really hate doing this, but it gives all the info needed :

Display problem - Too Contrasty
I am using Mac Mini, connected to a HP widescreen LCD monitor via VGA-VGA cable using the adaptor came with the Mini.
It was all fine before. But now the display gone too contrasty. I have changed the cable and even the monitor itself (as I thought the monitor was faulty and returned for a new one), still the problem exists. I have to plug out the VGA cable connected to the Mini adaptor (sometimes including the adaptor itself) and re-plug it in, and that seems to solve the problem. I have to do that everytime I start up the Mac Mini.
Can anyone please let me know whats wrong and how to solve it?
Thanks.I will try both again when I get home.
I work on photo editing a lot, so, calibrated the monitor using SpyderExpress. I don't really want to use option 2 you mentioned as that might not give me accurate color. But I will try option 1 you mentioned. -
I am doing 10AS(10.1.3.5) upgrade on 64bit OL 5 os with R1211/11.2.0.3 database.
I set the environment file and trying to run runinstaller, i am getting below error.

A jpeg marker segment length is too short
While imaging with my Canon T1i last night with my astro club I took probably 75 or 80 pics. Halfway through the session, my battery low indicator came on, so I changed the battery but may not have turned off the camera....I can't remember.....as I continued to shoot and review the images, everything looked and worked fine. When I returned home and got up this a.m. to review the pics, the last half could not be be opened. I usually insert my SD card in my laptop to review first before I transfer them over. I kept getting this error on the last half of the images I took :" a jpeg marker segment length is too short. The file may be truncated or incomplete." Anybody seen this or have any experience with this? Is there any way to recover and otherwise save these images? Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated. By not turning the camera off while changing batteries, could that be the reason for the error message? Thanks, Gary
Message was edited by: AstroLabsIdahoIt could be any one of a number of things such as the files being corrupted as the camera was writing them to the card, or a faulty card, a faulty USB connection or cable, etc.
Use only high quality cards ans cables, preferably use a card reader, be careful how you handle the camera, how you change batteries, etc. Common sense practices.

You may have installed one or more of the common types of ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it. It's been reported that some variants of the "VSearch" malware block access to the page. If that happens, start in safe mode by holding down the shift key at the startup chime, then try again.
Back up all data before making any changes.
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those. If Safari crashes on launch, skip that step and come back to it after you've done everything else.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, ask for further instructions.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install the malware. It may have come from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad would probably have included a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If you ever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
Malware is also found on websites that traffic in pirated content such as video. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow. Never install any software that you downloaded from a bittorrent, or that was downloaded by someone else from an unknown source.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
if it's not already checked.

"Avast" is the worst of the whole wretched lot of commercial "security" products for the Mac. Not only does it fail to protect you from any real danger, it may send personal data (such as web browsing history and the contents of email messages) back to the developer without your knowledge, give false warnings, destabilize and slow down the computer, expose you to network attack, and corrupt the network settings and the permissions of files in your home folder. Removing it may not repair all the damage.
Some versions of the product also inject advertising into web pages. In short, apart from the fine print in the license agreement, Avast is indistinguishable from malware, and is arguably worse than any known malware now in circulation.
Back up all data, then remove Avast according to the developer's instructions. Restart.
If you tried to remove Avast by dragging an application to the Trash, you'll have to reinstall it and then follow the instructions linked above. -
