How do I know which kind of connector my Studio Display has..
.Apple Studio Display:
Display Type: LCD

From System Profiler, please post the "Machine Model" information from its Hardware Overview page. There are quite a few MBP variants today and knowing the exact variant helps others help you.
Example: the Machine Model" info for my Late 2007 MBP 15" is "MacBookPro3,1" and this very accurately identifies the computer for troubleshooting purposes.
If the machine model reports a number higher than "4,1" you have a newer MBP that's covered in this forum section:

OS 10.4.6 and display connector
In March I got a G4 Mini to replace my old Mac. In the formidable process of getting all my functions to work on the Mini, I would have to swap computers several times, so I did not screw the connector from my monitor to the adapter on the Mini.
In a month, I removed my old Mac from my desk. In the next two hours, my Mini's response to mouse clicks was a little erratic. Then the screen went blue. I reached back to be sure the display connector was seated.
I restarted and the screen remained blue for several minutes. I restarted again and saw faint flickers of my desktop. In a few minutes the desktop suddenly appeared. I could find no indication of trouble in the logs.
It worked fine for eight days. Then the response to the mouse and keyboard became slightly erratic. The next day I started the computer and told Internet Connect to dial. The screen went blue, but there were a couple of flashes when I saw that Internet Connect was keeping track of my online time.
Six times I restarted and let it sit five minutes with a blue screen. Once I disconnected the power supply for five minutes. I zapped the PRAM. It looked fine on the Install disk, which found no hardware problem, but blue was all I got from the hard drive.
I removed the Mini to use my old Mac to find Apple's phone number. When I hooked up the Mini two hours later, I screwed down the display connector. I had to back out one screw a turn or two so the connector would seat fully and I could engage the screw. The Mini started immediately. The System Log seemed to say that all the startups that day had been normal. I could find no record of a crash in the last few days.
Was the problem ambiguous continuity in the connector? I want to be sure. Is OS 10.4.6 more sensitive to a display connector problem than is the Install disk? Under 10.4.6, can a problem in the display connection cause a misreading of keystrokes and mouse clicks?Welcome to Apple Discussions!
If you "reached back" as you say, you may have
inadvertantly bent the connector plugging it into the
Mini. The bend may be ever so slight as to not be
noticeable, but the computer would be sensitive to
it. When dealing with computer connectors, it is
important to remember to pull them evenly out and
push them evenly in, being observant that the pins
are matching the holes, and not move them at an angle
from each other when the connection is taking place.
What I called "reaching back" was reaching forward. It was after the screen turned blue. I could see the connector on the back of the Mini. I pushed it directly toward the connector on the Mini. Nothing moved, so I assumed it was fully seated. I didn't realize the screw might have been interfering.
Try a different display to see if the connector of
the display itself, or the connector on the Mini is
what is damaged.
I assume screwing the connector down during the second incident has eliminated the possible electrical problem.
Activating the dialup connection may have triggered
the display to go wild if something is wrong with the
connector or cable's shielding. It is unlikely to
happen because the voltages and RF created by the
modem is so little, but I wouldn't say it is
impossible.
Making the dialup connection proved that the computer continued to work after my screen went blue.
The fact the logs say nothing suggests the problem is
more than likely to be just between the connectors
and cable.
That sounds right to me, but I want to understand two loose ends in case something else is wrong:
1. In each incident, why was the first symptom an inconsistent response to mouse clicks?
2. Why did it work fine when I booted from the Install disk?
Your reference to RF may point to the answers. I should look at a pinout to see where the sync pins are in that connector. Suppose the screw was keeping the connection physically open on one side so that a sync pin was barely making contact. If it opened to the point of invisibly tiny sparking, that could have interfered with the click signals of my wireless mouse.
If the connection opened a couple of microns more, I would have lost my sync. I wonder if the loss of a sync signal causes an SVGA CRT monitor to go blue.
Why would I still get a display if I booted from the Install disk? It probably had a different refresh rate and maybe a different scan frequency. In the case the sync voltage may have been high enough to jump the bad connection.
If that's a reasonable explanation, I can feel confident that the only problem was an unscrewed connector. -
ADC to DVI connector cable - 2 for 1?
Will this cable enable me to run a data projector from the ADC port at the same time as the monitor attached to the DVI?
G5 Dual 2.5 Mac OS X (10.3.7)Can I use the Belkin ADC to DVI Connector Cable to
connect one of the DVI displays to the ADC output on
the G5?
Yes.
If so, am I right in assuming that I still use the
Cinema Display power connector in addition to using
this adaptor cable?
Yes. The adapter just provides the digital video signals. You still need to plug in the power, USB, and FireWire (if needed) cables from the display
All the documentation seems to be restricted to G4s,
When the adapter came out the only ADC computers were G4s. They haven't updated the documentation, but it will work on a G5. -
IPhone 3GS display connector?
Hi guys i have big problem with iPhone 3GS display,so i need your help here,i was changing battery on my device and the when i wanted to put back display i saw that connector 1 is hard to put on on connector on motherboard so i saw that conncetor one don't havetwo pins ,i know that i need new cable or new display can you please tell me can just replacew another ribbon cable because my LCD display is not broken,if you didm't understad this is the problem,so can i do anything or i need to buy new LCD display.
Your question is a little difficult for me to understand. If you think the LCD Display connector on the Ribbon Cable #1 is damaged, the fix is to purchase a new LCD Display. The Ribbon itself is not truly a replaceable part that I know of.
When working on an iPhone 3GS the iPhone must be OFF, or you risk damaging the LCD Display or the Logic Board components that control the LCD Display.
I do not understand how you know “don’t have two pins”? I have never heard of this problem? If you really know that two pins are out, then also examine the #1 connector on the Logic Board to be certain is has not sustained damage too. -
Any Mini Display Port to Display Port cable?
I am going to buy a new 30" DELL monitor which equipped with Display Port, but I cannot find any Mini Display Port to Display Port cable, so what can I do?
Don't tell me to buy a Mini Display Port to Dual Link DVI cable, it is nonsense to change the type of connector and buy that expensive cable. There is at least one that I know of.

IMac display connector on logic board
Does anyone know the part number or part description for the connector on the logic board that connects to the display (tdms) cable on an iMac G4? On the logic board, where the old one was, is the notation "j10". The person I got this iMac from tried upgrading the hard drive and accidentally ripped the connector off because they didn't unclip the tdms cable from the drive first.
I figure soldering a new connector on should be a pretty easy fix, but I'm not sure what part to order. I know a few places that I could probably order it from, once I know what I'm ordering.Seems to me a similar question has appeared in these boards, and
there are a few people who are regulars, that may know the answer.
Been awhile since I've seen the posts regarding this topic, so I can't
just put a link to the correct discussion at this time. Maybe the post
could appear as part of a search; such a dragnet approach may be
daunting and the yield well beyond the scope of your needs.
A slightly different discussion than I recall, but near the neighborhood:

Is there a close-up picture here of the connector in question?

Taking delivery of my new Pro in a couple of days and am considering buying a Asus PQ321QE but am totally confused by the following:
Apple says
'Which 4K displays can I use?
You can use the Sharp PN-K321 and the ASUS PQ321Q with the Mac Pro (Late 2013). These displays require using a Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable or a High-Speed HDMI cable to connect to your Mac Pro. European versions of these displays do not include an HDMI port.'
Seems easy; however, I cannot find a mini display to display port cable.
Additionally, despite the Apple advice the Asus does seem to have an HDMI port I can use:
'The Asus PQ321QE features DisplayPort and dual-HDMI ports inputs to connect to your various devices and PCs simultaneously. Built-in 2W stereo speakers simplify free space from needing separate speakers for a complete audio visual experience. Picture-by-picture (PBP) mode splits the screen down the middle to display content from two separate sources side-by-side to view images from different signals and easily switch between the main and PBP source, including audio.'
I would be grateful for guidence.
Thanks.Click on this blue underlined link and buy one of these four cables, each under US$10 plus shipping from California USA:

I bought a belkin mini display unit cable( new) and connected the thunderbolt port in the MBA ( 11" , mid 2012) to the Imac mini display unit port using this cable. Pressed the CMD & F2 keys on the Imac keyboard as required but this did not work. Should I try with another cable ? Should i try with a thunderbolt cable ( recommended by appple support ) -- but they too were not sure about this. Is the Mid 2010 21.5" Imac not able to function as an display unit? Any guidance would help and will be much appreciated.
Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Only the 27-inch iMac and Mid 2011 and newer iMacs can be used as an external screen, so you can't use your Mac as an external screen. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11302
You can still use your iMac as an external display, using an application like ScreenRecycler -

I am trying to connect a 24" cinema display with mini display port cable to a 24" imac with a displayport - is there a cable for this as these two connections are two different sizes
Hi Gilly,
I have no proof, but I think it will not work with an adapter, only Mini Display Port or Thunderbolt. -
Does anyone know if a hdmi to mini display port cable can be used to link a windows laptop with an 27 inch iMac to use the iMac as an external monitor. Or are there other options to connect my DELL latitude 6430?
Is the 3.5mm-to-optical cable any better than using a standard 3.5mm? I don't know too much about this stuff. My thought process was that if the source of the connection is a 3.5mm jack, does it make a difference using a cable that starts as a 3.5 and converts to optical?
Chances are excellent that if your receiver is less than 20 years old it has an optical input, this is a digital signal which will sound MUCH MUCH better than using an analog 3.5MM to 3.5MM connection. I recommend using the cable suggested or one with the same connections but of a different length if your needs warrant it. -
I have the mini display port cable to hdmi. When I connect I can get audio but on the video I get the display auro screen and can't get my actual display to show as that is not what shows on my display. How can I fix this?

110 vs 220 Power - Apple Display Connector
I recently moved from a 220V power country to a 110V power country. My 2008 Quadcore MacPro switched over no problem, everything worked fine. My older 2.0Ghtz MacPro has two problems:
1. The fans run highspeed within minutes of turning it on. Very noisy, and definitely not due to heat. Cool - cold in the home and the computer has just started, yet they run loud and noisy.
2. The Apple Display Screen (plastic casing, 23" inch) doesn't light up. It hooks into the MacPro with the Apple Display Connector, thus no separate power connector. The MacPro clearly says on the back that it works with 110-220V power, so my assumption is that it will feed the proper power through the Apple Display Connector. The Display's front white on/off button lights up when pressed, so some power is getting through to it, the screen just doesn't lite up.
Any thoughts?Welcome to the Apple Community.
It can be used with any voltage, it has a universal power unit. -
