Display 'continued' if repeating frame runs over to another page.

I have a repeating frame of wildly varying lengths. If I don't page protect the frame, then sometimes there are one or two lines that run over to the next page and get lost. If I do page protect the frame, sometimes very little prints on a page and I get large blank spaces.
Ideally, I'd like to take out the page protect and let the frame run over but add something like "continued on next page" before the page break and "continued from previous page" after the page break.
An ideas?

Repeating Frames running over more than one page

Hi I have developed an Oracle Report. It is a nomination form having 7 to 8 pages. FYI..Input is a Pin Number. So, the customer can either enter one pin or can select many pins from the browser and depending on the selection he needs to either print one form or many forms at a stretch. So i want a repeating frame to be enclosed all the other frames. But if i do that, then i am getting an error
"REP-1212: Object R_13 is not fully enclosed by its enclosing body" since the repeating i introduced spans over all the pages in the report.
Please let me know the solution for this asap.

Make sure the repeating frame is variable vertically and that all the frames that it encloses are variable.

Item Display one in Repeating frame

I have a repeating frame in this frame 3 items which are repeating 3 times Now is that possible that repeating frame repeat these item only one time.
Like when we use form there is a item property --> RECORD -> "No of Item Displayed" = 1

Please help. It's very hard to believe that Oracle Reports 6i does not have a way of keeping text and/or frames from running off the physical page. My frames and text boxes have thier vertical size set to variable, and I have set page protect to yes, although this does not seems to help.
Will setting the page length to the correct number of lines in between the margins help, there must be a way of keeping this from happening.....please help!

by setting the frame elasticity to variable, you allow the frames to shring and expand regardless of the page-size. to restrict it to a specific page size, the out-most frame must represent the boundries and must be set to fixed.

Data display - aligning group data and carry over on new page logic - 11G

I am fairly new to BI Publisher, so any help would be much appreciated. I am working with a standard pdf form to display Purchase Order Data. I have saved the image of the pdf as the background of the page. I have a simple table where I am inserting all the data and aligning it on the page so it appears to be in the correct place on the form.
The form has a section containing 10 blank lines to display the PO data. Each line is .25 inches.
The problem occurs that at the line description can have 254 characters but the space on the line allows for 51 characters. So I need to display the data something like this (for simplicity sake)
TableA.id TableA.Description254
Line 1 1 Blah, 1-51 characters of line descr
Line 2 Blah blah, 52 - 102 characters
Line 3 2 Blah, 1-51 characters of line descr
Line 4 3 Blah, 1-51 characters of line descr
Line 5 Blah blah, 52 - 102 characters
Line 6 Blah blah, 103 - 153 characters
anything that carries over needs to go to a second page with a different background image. So I have several questions.
1. Any suggestions on how to display the PO Line, so I can substring the PO line description and display the remaining data on a following line? A second line would write the next 51 characters of data if it exists, and would not display the first column, (TableA.Id)
2. Any suggestions on how to load the carry over data (anything over the 10 lines on the first page) and display on the following page.
I am including a screen shot so this might make more sense. I have lightly dashed orange lines showing of my table which I use for aligning the data. It is only for reference.

Ok, just in case anyone runs into the same issue. Here was my solution.
I added a made up record to the existing xsd template that served as a place holder for my dynamic content.
I created an app package that has two properties.
1. Full String
2. Single Line String
The Method takes in the column width as a parameter. It searches through the Full String until it finds the last available word before the column width. It then returns that as the Single Line String and updates the Full String to what's remaining.
If I have any of the Full String remaining I keep calling the method.
I can provide more specific details about the method if anyone needs it.

When I try typing in key word in the search field, the letters seem to hang or are slow in displaying, causing the letters to skip over one another.

When I'm typing in the key words in the search field, there is a delay between my key stroke and the appearance of the letter in the search field. If I type at a normal speed, usually one or two letters are skipped and have to back track or start over. My key words will appear correctly if I wait for a letter to appear before I enter the next key stroke.
Many of my web pages are slow to load, or they time out.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

Display of repeating frames is not proper--a litle urgent

hi,
I have a report run as a form-letter.Now i have two repeating frames, after i run the paper layout ,one repeating frame appears in the first page (as expected)but the other repeating frame appears in the second page[b] but a little lower that where it should apppear..this is the problem, I have tried changing all the properties, but all in vain.I feel that the second repeating frame appears exaclty at the same position as the first one.Please help...

Display a repeating number in repeating frame.

Hi all,
using forms6, reports6(6.0.8.20.1) on database 81741 in web-based arch, windows2000 servers.
On the report page, I have a repeating frame with data extracted from database. I used to mark starting of the frame with a '*' sign to make visible where a new frame started on report. Users want that to be replaced by (increasing) numbers with frame. I donot want to keep that as a column in database because the order it might be kept in database would differ from shown in reports & in that case, it might show on reports as 3,4,2,1.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Ok, I am back with a new practical issue. Our requirement was to to display numbers in repeating frame. That we met. Now, we place a dot/decimel after a number in any letter etc. I am trying to place a dot after number.
I use a independent text object to place a dot after the new field we created. it works fine for 1 to 9. At number 10, that 'dot' doesnot move foreward with the number & dot is hidden under 10. If I move dot one place foreward, it shows fine for 2 digit numbers, but looks dumb for 1 digit number. Changing the horizontal elasticity property of the 'F_' item to all possible value doesnot align dot after number.
Any suggestions?

How to get the number of rows in a repeating frame ?

Hi all,
When I launch a report from forms then sometimes there are data in the report and sometimes there are no data. And the problem is that when there are no data then the frame containing the repeating frame is still displaying and a blank page displays on the report.
So I want to get the number of rows from the repeating frame so that I can code a format trigger on the frame to display or not the enclosing frame depending on the existence of data from the repeating frame.

You can achieve this. Define a summary column (say cnt). Select summary type as "COUNT". select any one of columns that are getting displayed in your repeating frame as summary column and provide "reset at" group name (or set this to report if you are defining this field at report level) . This "cnt" variable will contain how many records that will be fetched for your repeating frame (i.e. Group of Repeating frame). You can use this "CNT" variable in your format trigger.
In this case there is no need to write before report trigger or anything.

Please suggest problem in increasing height repeating frames

Hi,
in my report normally up to 100 are printed. i setted the vertical elasticity as expand and horizontal as fixed.
but while priting, in vertical, it is contracting if date is too short enough and expanding when dat is large enough. But what my requirement i want to specify the height of each field in repeating frame fixed. i.e. 3 centimeters and it should be same for all records printed on page and on each logical page and i want to print maximum 8 records per page becoz my print page size can hold maximum 8 records and each record at 4 lines. And even if the data is short enough it must not be contracted, if data is one line,and the remaining space that is in 3 cemtimers should be left blank and it must to go to second record. That is in fixed heigt of record repeart frame i want to print the data. If data goes more than 3 centimetres then date must be truncated. I did not find any height to set this property in Repeating frame property.

Hi Prasanth,
Enlarge the Repeating Frame height to say, 3 centimeters in the layout.
Set the Vertical (& Horizontal as well) Elasticity of the repeating Frame as Fixed.
In the Property Palette of Repeating Frame, set Maximum Records Per Page to 8 and Set Page Break after property to Yes.
This will solve ur problems.

Specifying order of pages in output with repeating frames

I'm using Oracle Reports Builder 10g and I need help on this subject:
I'm developing a report divided in sections that reference statistics of the partitions present in an IBM Machine. Each page in the first section appears also in the other sections of the reports, i.e. the first page of the first section (with data from partition A) has the same layout than the first page of the second section (with data from partition B in this case), which is page 14 on the final pdf report, and so on.
For each 'kind' of page in the final report I use a repeating frame that fills a whole page in the page layout in reports builder (the parameter is the partition), so I get n output pages for each page in the rdf file (n is the number of partitions). The problem: in the resulting pdf output file, the first page of first section appears first, then the first page of second section, and so on. I need the pdf to be arranged in the correct order.
Can someone help me on this subject?

Layout problem - multiple repeating frames

Hi, I have a layout problem, pls help!
Short report description:
- Repeating Frame1 - gives 1 record, contains all other frames, variable vertical elasticity
- - Frame2 - contains all frames beneath - variable vertical elasticity
- - - Frame3 - variable vertical elasticity
- - - - some boilerplates
- - - - Repeating Frame 2 - various number of records, fixed vertical elasticity, height 100
- - - - Repeating Frame 3 - various number of records, fixed vertical elasticity, height 30
- - - - .. other repeating frames ..
When reaching the bottom of a page, and there is not enough room to print a record for Repeating frame 2, a record from Repeating frame 3 is printed in the bottom.
Next page starts with the remaining records from Repeating frame 2.. and then the remaining records from Repeating frame 3.
For example:
Page 1:
Rep frame 2 - Record 1
Rep frame 2 - Record 2
Rep frame 2 - Record 3
Rep frame 3 - Record 1 -- not enough space to print Record 4, so this record is printed
Page 2:
Rep frame 2 - Record 4
Rep frame 2 - Record 5
Rep frame 3 - Record 2
How can i ensure that all records from Rep frame 2 is printed before records from Rep frame 3?

Repeating Frame

Hi,
I have a report with the following design
TEXT1
REPEATING FRAME
TEXT2
TEXT3
If the repeating frame query return too many records, the REPEATING FRAME is pushing TEXT2 to a second page, which is correct.
The problem is that TEXT2 is pushed to a second page but its not started from the beginning of the page, its coming in the middle of the second page where there are too many empty lines.
I noticed that TEXT2 is pushed to a second page exactly where the REPEATING FRAME started in the first page! i.e. the REPEATING FRAME started at 2.5 inch from top of the first page, the TEXT2 is pushed to a second page at 2.5 inch from top of the second page.
I solved this problem by setting Vertical Panels per Page in Main Section to 2 instead of its initial value 1
But another problem shows when TXET2 is pushed, half of one text line is showing in page 1 while half of it is showing in page 2!

I think it is the TEXT1 that is blocking on the second page. If you make the Vertical Elasticity property to Variable instead of Fixed the space will disappear on the later pages. May have to put a frame around it with Vertical Elasticity property to Variable to be sure to get rid of it. Anyway that is the theory.

Headers at top AND bottom of a repeating frame.

I've created a simple report through the Oracle Reports wizard. It created column headings which are on at the top of each page, and the repeating frame which spans several pages. What I am now trying to add are column "headings" which are at the bottom of each page. Similar to the Headings that are defined above the repeating frame, but under the repeating frame.
Problem is, the repeating frame spans several pages, but the "Headings" at the bottom are only showing on the last page. I do have the preferences set to All Pages. I can get all sorts of things to work and print on each page ABOVE the repeating frame, but not on each page BELOW the repeating frame.
Something simple?

Header, Main and Trailer section are something completely different. They have nothing to do with header and trialer on a page, but are completely different sections of a report (like having an introduction letter in the header section, and the report in the main section).
If you want to do what you want, do this:
- In the layout editor, expand the group frame (GF) around the repeating frame to almost the height of the page.
- Set the vertical elasticity of GF to Fixed.
- Copy the header group frame and it's text fields to a position outside GF. Rename it to Footer group frame (FGF).
- Drag FGF and it's items to a position below GF.
Hope this is clear.

Repeating frame data run over the page number in the bottom of page

Hi all,
I have an issue trying to have page number info shown on every page of report.
The report has an outer frame M1 that includes frame M2 (it contains a repeating frame with actual data), M3 (a frame that shows the summary and total info) and M4 (the frame that contains page number information.
Settings are as follow:
Frame - Vertical - Horizontal - Print Obj On - Base Printing On
M1     Fixed          Fixed          First Page     Enclosing
M2     Expand          Fixed          First Page     Enclosing
M3     Fixed          Fixed          Last Page     Anchoring
M4     Fixed          Fixed           All Page     Enclosing
What happens now is that frames M3 and M4 both only shown on the last page. M3 has the right behavior but I expected M4 to show on every page. All these are on Main Section. I know I could have page info on Trailer section but I need to have everything on Main section because of some other logic I have.
Any suggestions?

I tried that but it did not work. If I used Print All Pages for main content frame it will just have 1 page output versus multiple pages as expected.
Two important points:
1) R1 (the repeating frame in M2) has Vertical Elasticity as Expand because it also contains more repeating frames under it. Problem could be solved if the R1 would have vertical elasticity as Fixed instead;
2) I also could have fixed this by having M2 (it contains a repeating frame with actual data) with Vertical Elasticity as Fixed instead of Expand. But once I do that, I get Report error M3 (frame that shows the summary at the last page) "has an illegal print condition"? Anyone know why this error occurs?
