Display/desktop too large

I cannot seem to get my computer screen back to a normal size. My desktop photo is so large that all the icons go missing and I have tried system preferences.  Someone mentioned Hot corners and zoom.  Anyone have this problem?

THANK YOU so much.  My Apple Protection Plan expired a few months ago, so I cannot believe that you just cleared it up.  Very much appreciated!

  • Since updating Iphone 4 the screen display is too large

Since updating my Iphone 4 the screen display is too large to fit on the screen. For example the green battery graphic is so large half of it takes up the full screen.
I pressed restore and restored the phone. I then restored my backup files and I still have the same problem.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

This is asked and answered many, many times and is covered in the manual ( Zoom feature).

  • Mac Mini display is too large for screen on only one user account

Okay, so I left my two year olds alone for a minute playing the "alphabet game" on my Mac Mini. They only had the keyboard, no mouse but managed to muck up my display leaving me a bit frustrated.  The screen is now too large for my Samsung display. The only way to see everything (dock, top bar, etc) is to move my mouse arrow to the end of my display and see it roll back onto the page.  I've checked the settings there and they are fine. The MacBook Pro plugs right in and is proper resolution. So I then wondered if another account on the Mac Mini would do the same thing. I logged out of my Admin account and into another and everything looks just dandy. I log back into my Admin account and it's too large and blurry again. The resolution is set correct at 1920x1080 at 60 Hz.
What button did they push on my keyboard that would do this and how do I get it back?? Aargh! Thanks all!

Ha, figured it out myself from another discussion forum finally. Thoght I'd share in case anyone else runs into this. They must have hit "Zoom" by htting the "Control" and scroll buttons at the same time..
    Resolution:
You can zoom out by holding down the Option and Command buttons on the keyboard and, while you hold them down, pressing the - key.

  • HELP! Display appears too large for screen!

Weird thing happening... The display on my iPhone for some reason is appearing too large for the screen, as if I zoomed in on the display slightly. I can't figure out a way to fix this.
Here's what it looks like. Notice the bottom half of the "scroll to unlock" is cut off... the whole thing is off-centered bcause of the zoom) http://i37.tinypic.com/25qvpr4.jpg
I updated to the latest software/etc... because I figured that that might resolve the issue. Restarted the phone. Can't fix. Trying to avoid my local Apple store, since it's an absolute mob scene. Any advice?

    You have zoom on, probably.
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/iPhone_UserGuide.pdf
The manual will tell you how to turn it off.
    Page 190:
"Turn Zoom on or off: In Settings, choose General > Accessibility > Zoom and tap the
    Zoom On/Off switch.
Note: You cannot use VoiceOver and Zoom at the same time.
Zoom in or out: Double-tap the screen with three fingers. By default, the screen is
magnified by 200 percent. If you manually change the magnification (by using the tap-
and-drag gesture, described below), iPhone automatically returns to that magnification
when you zoom in by double-tapping with three fingers.
Increase magnification: With three fingers, tap and drag toward the top of the
screen (to increase magnification) or toward the bottom of the screen (to decrease
magnification). The tap-and-drag gesture is similar to a double-tap, except you don’t
lift your fingers on the second tap—instead, drag your fingers on the screen. Once you
start dragging, you can drag with a single finger.
Move around the screen: When zoomed in, drag or flick the screen with three fingers.
Once you start dragging, you can drag with a single finger so that you can see more
of the screen. Hold a single finger near the edge of the display to pan to that side of
the screen image. Move your finger closer to the edge to pan more quickly. When you
open a new screen, Zoom always goes to the top-middle of the screen.

  • Browser display is too large

Please help: For some unknown reason, my Macbook browser display has grown to beyond the edges of my screen.
    Thank you

Click the green "+" button at top left - this should make the frame fit within the screen. Then grab frame from the top until you can access the diagonal lines at the bottom right of the browser frame and resize to a smaller size.

  • Display now too large

I used to have a narrow view of contacts that I could have visible all the time.  Now it takes half my screen.

Have you tried the View -> Split Window View mode?

  • Phone display too large to function

My display is too large to fit my screen and makes it almost unusable to navigate. I cannot find a setting to fix this. Anyone run across this?

Double tap with 3 fingers to un-zoom.
To prevent this from happening again:
    Settings > General > Accessibility > Zoom > OFF

  • When firefox is loaded the display is too big for the screen & blocks out controls

When I load Firefox Home, the display is too large to fit into the screen making it impossible to see the controls (Toolbar and log-out cross etc) This has only just happened, everything was working perfectly until about an hour ago

Open the system menu via Alt+Space and see if you can resize that window.
If that works then close Firefox (File > Exit/Quit) to save that setting.

  • Images too large on desktop

I shoot photos with a fairly high resolution; the images are usually about 3mb each. When I set a photo to be the desktop image, it is way too large for my desktop; much of the photo is off-screen. I have tried cropping, exporting as a smaller file and then importing that, etc., they all have problems, plus take way too long.
Is there an easy way to get the large photo to fit on the desktop properly?

Have you tried cropping the photos to the same size ratio or pixel dimensions as the monitor?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • I have Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom on my MacBook Pro laptop. I bought an iMac and I'd like to move my installations to the larger display desktop for editing purposes. How can I go about transferring them?

I have Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom on my MacBook Pro laptop. I bought an iMac and I'd like to move my installations to the larger display desktop for editing purposes. How can I go about transferring them?

I have the same question. It seems that Adobe is almost impossible to contact (I ended up here at the forums to ask the same question).
I will never buy another Adobe product again if I can get another program to replace it. If this is customer service then it is NON EXISTENT!
I notice that your question has not been answered and why should you have to get the information from a forum? I know of no other company that makes you do this for simple product information.
NOT HAPPY with this version of arrogant customer service (nor am I happy about renting Photoshop products into the future - it is just a money grab in my opinion). I will be voting with my feet and going elsewhere in future.

  • HT1338 Since having my Macbook Pro attached to a large display screen, everything is too large for the screen. Is there a cure please?

Today I had my Mac linked to a projector screen, and since disconnection evrything from the desk top onwards has been too large for the screen. Before that evrything was perfect. I have tried zoom buttons etc, but nothing seems to work. Any help gratefully rceived.

So it's not the Zoom feature?  Open System Preferences Universal Access pane Seeing tab.  Make sure Zoom is turned OFF.
If it's not that, then you may have the resolution set so that it is not optimal for the built-in display.  Open System Preferences Displays pane Display tab.  The optimal resolution is usually the one at the top of the list of choices.

The display on my monitor is too large (can't fit the whole screen on my monitor) even though the resolution is correct.  Suggestions?

Sounds like it may just be enlarged. Have you tried holding down the <ctrl> key and moving the mouse up and down, or scrolling your finger up and down if you have a magic pad.

  • Attached images display too large

when using mail in os 10.4, if someone sends me a message with pictures attached, they are at a size that you can see the whole picture when you scroll down in the message. if i forward that email to someone, the pictures display too large and you cannot see the whole image in the message. is there a setting for this somewhere?

Ah thanks, maybe I was experimenting with too small of pics!?
    Hmm, interesting...
Mail will remebember the size and will automatically use it the next time you attach an image if you forget to manually change it back.
And if the last setting was small, the menu may be there, but will have no effect since you cannot Scale up!
Yes, it works only for downsizing.
Also, it seems that if the pic is in quoted nesting the size setting has no effect!?
On Mac OS X 10.5 and later it works regardless of quotation. If it does not on Mac OS X Tiger, it must be a bug that was fixed later.

  • HT3142 Display size is too large on yahoo mail

My display size is too large on yahoo mail page only (page I need and use most). How do I correct it, please?
Changing the display selections from system preferences is not working.

There may be a control within the application you are running Yahoo.
Which browser are you using online to access Yahoo?
In the View menu bar of the open application, there may be a choice
to change the size of the display content in the window itself, check.
Some of these use a keyboard command, should the setting go to
Full Screen, you'd need to know the default or escape combination
of keys to restore the application's window to a standard size. This
kind of inside-application setting is not reflected System Wide.
Since I don't know the browser, (as I have five, each is different)
I can't recommend a keyboard combination to re-size the open
application's view or window setting. They can be non-standard.
But that likely is where you'd have to change it back to normal.
PS: Snow Leopard is Mac OS X 10.6.8.
    (Tiger is OS X 10.4.x)
    Good luck!
