Display disappearing after two seconds

My Macbook (about 2 years old) was fine all of last night, but this morning I opened it up and the display disappeared after a minute. Now it disappears after just a brief second.
I can toy with the brightness bringing it down all the way then up one, and it appears and then disappears quickly. Same thing happens when I close it and open it again.
Anybody got any ideas?

Not sure but it sounds like the inverter, which is the power supply for the backlight, is failing. Do you have an Apple Care extended warranty?

Can you open Adobe Reader by itself? If so, try disabling Protected Mode [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].

Textarea default value disappears after a second in version 11, why?

I use default value in html form element, textarea.
It works fine in firefox 4.0 beta.
But not in firefox 11 and firefox 3, the default value disappears after a second just like a flash.
How can i solve this?

Thanks for everyone's response. I tried many of your recommendations including resetting Firefox. Initially, it appeared as though it may have been a result of the Facebook messaging service that I had but that ended up not being the problem. I then decided to use XMarks instead of Firefox Sync and so far that seems to be the solution my bookmarks library is currently working flawlessly.
I'm going to guess and say that Firefox Sync sync's your bookmarks in real time and so whenever you make a change it slows things down initially. XMarks doesn't sync in real time but only when the network is idle and therefore doesn't cause these lags after making changes.
That's just my guess. Thanks again for everyone's input.

Audio In Exported QT Movie Disappears After 23 Seconds?

My 7 minute project is composed of AVCHD clips optimised as ProRes 422.
It has a simple title and cross dissolves between each clip.
I select Share>Export Media as Video and Audio and using Current Settings.
The resulting QT file plays perfectly up to 23 seconds (just before the end of the first clip) and then the audio disappears.
I have trashed the prefs and tried two more times but the results are the same. No audio after 23 seconds.
The audio in the project is perfect.
I have not (knowingly) deselected anything.
Any ideas what might be the cause?

I have just deleted the first cross-dissolve, exported again as above and guess what?
The audio lasts up to what was the second transition but is now the first.
So it appears to be transition-related.
When there was a transition at position 1 the audio stopped there in exported videos..
Now that the first transition is at position 2, the audio now stops there.
One other point I have just remembered.
These are complete clips and all the transitions are Full Overlap.

When I boot holding option, both Mac and Bootcamp partitions show up, but disappear after 2 seconds.

I recently swapped out my HDD for an SSD in my 2007 MBP. Hardware installed fine. I installed Mountain Lion from a time machine backup (of the same machine). I made the Windows partition in OSX, then installed Windows 7 on the partition it had made. In Windows, I updated Bootcamp to 3.3.
Everything seems to work fine in both OSX and Bootcamp from what I can tell. The problem is, when I boot and hold option to choose my boot drive, both drives appear and then disappear in about 2 seconds. They disappear with a "poof" animation, as if you had dragged an app off of the dock. If I'm fast enough, I can choose the boot drive before it disappears.
I tried once again reinstalling OSX from my last time machine backup (prior to the SSD swap), and the problem persists.
I thought it might have something to do with NTFS 3G and MacFuse, because I'd heard that they cause a bug where the bootcamp partition won't show up under the "startup disk" preferences pane. When I uninstalled said programs, bootcamp showed up under there startup disk options, but the problem persists.
Any ideas?

Actually, this is just getting weirder.
Disregard my edit above. Clicking once doesn't have any effect on the drives. But the drives disappear only coming off of a RESTART from OSX. If I Shut down fully, the problem is solved. Likewise, if the drives have disappeared after a restart and I am forced to turn off the computer by pressing the power button, upon boot up the drives no longer disappear (Regardless of any action I take).
It would seem that the drives are disappearing due to something during the restart process.
Okay: Here are some workflows that might shed light on the situation:
Boot to Mac -> Shut down -> Alt boot : DOES NOT DISAPPEAR
Boot to Mac -> Restart -> Alt boot: DISAPPEARS
Boot to Mac -> Shut Down -> Alt boot -> Boot to Windows -> Shutdown or restart -> Alt boot : DOES NOT DISAPPEAR
Boot to Mac -> Restart -> Alt boot & fast select -> Boot to Windows -> Shutdown or restart -> Alt boot: DISAPPEARS
Boot to Mac -> Restart -> Alt boot & disappears -> Turn power off -> alt boot: DOES NOT DISAPPEAR
So the core culprit is something to do with OSX restart. The method of shutdown during windows doesn't seem to matter.

Captivate program popups disappear after 1 second

Anyone have this problem? Captivate runs fine for a while.
Then you hit properties on something to edit it and the popup
disappears after half a second. THe only way to get captivate to
work again is to close it, find the captivate.exe process and kill
it. Or reboot the machine. I have an employee losing about an hour
a day to this.

What you are reporting sounds like the old flash and
disappear menu when you interact with a Flash object. So when you
see this happening, try clicking an object in the library to place
focus there and things should normalize.

Caller Display disappeared after I ordered Privacy...

I have always had Caller Display as a call feature. I recently found out that you can have Caller display for free under Privacy at Home, so I cancelled the paid feature and ordered Privacy at Home instead. I have received written confirmation from BT, and Caller Display disappeared, despite having Privacy at Home!! I dialled *#234# and received the message that "the service requested is not available". I want Caller Display even if I have to pay for it, but when I logged onto Change Calling features, I could not find the option "Caller Display". What's happening? Can someone help?

Seems that since you ordered privacy on line they have forgot to add the caller display option.

Video stops after two seconds

I've had a Macbook for a little over seven months, and this problem just started showing up a few days ago. It's the video. It will start playing for the first two seconds and it'll just stop there. It happens to every video I play. I've tried different DVDs so it's not a problem with the DVD itself. I also tried viewing videos on YouTube, and the same thing happens. I could move the bar thing around, but it'll just play for another two seconds. What's wrong, and how can I remedy this problem?

IBook G4 cursor disappears after two minutes.

On a early 2004 G4 iBook (1.2 ghz) the cursor disappears two minutes after booting. I have enought time to do one disc utility repair before the cursor vanishes. The reults of the repair were minor permissions repairs to library items. Booted with battery only and with A/C, but get same results.

You have the original installation and restore discs? These would be Mac OS X 10.3.x (most often 10.3.5).
You don't have the installation disc for Mac OS X 10.4? This is what you would need to attempt a repair of the hard drive.
Have you tried starting up in Safe Mode? This will take quite awhile longer than a normal startup because it does a file check and repair of the hard disk.
You will see your normal desktop. Once completely started up in Safe Mode, restart normally, and go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility. Click on the top hard drive icon in the left sidebar and note the S.M.A.R.T. status at the bottom right of the pane. What does it say?
Select the named boot volume in the left sidebar ("Macintosh HD" unless you've renamed it). What is the hard drive capacity and how much space remains available on it? Repair permissions on it.
It sounds like there could be a problem with the hard drive. See if a little hard drive maintenance alleviates the problem.

USB keys and external hard drives disappear after 30 seconds to 1 minute of being mounted.

I just got my 15' MacBook Pro refurbished (by Apple), and everything is working well except my USB ports. My USB keys appear for 30 seconds to as much as 2 minutes before disappearing from eveywhere, my desktop, finder and disk utility. I have a 1 TB WD passport for mac that also has the same problem, but can stay on the desktop and copy files for around 10 minutes. Then error -36 shows up, the hard drive disappears from the desktop and finder, but only appears in disk utility. It is powered as well, The light is currently flashing indicating it's receiving power as I am typing this. But still, no way i can copy anyhting onto it.
I have searched and searched for the solution to this problem, I have tried using apple script to find "invisible hard drives." and that doesn't work either.
On my windows partition in bootcamp, all usb keys work perfectly fine.
Is it because the USB ports are out of energy and dying? If so, should the refurbishment have covered that and replaced them? (Note: refurbishment included everything from my Keysboard to my battery to my Optical drive and cable optical drive flex)
Is there anything I can do to fix this problem on my own?
Any help I can get would be greatly appreciated.

Here is something from an earlier post on the -36 error that may help to identify the issue:
A -36 is a disc I/O error. You might have a corrupt file, or a corrupted drive. Try creating a new file and see if you still get the error. If you do, it might be wise to run a Disc Repair program to see if it can find any errors that it can fix.
And one from another thread:
You need to format your drive correctly. New drives come formatted for Windows, & then they seem to work — but not properly.
+Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility+
Choose one of the +Mac OS Extended+ formats.
Obviously first you will have to back-up all the data you have already put on the drive, because it will all be lost when you re-format.

Ipod Classic pauses then restarts after two seconds

I have Ipod Clasic 160 - recently it has started pausing then restarting within a second or two. It is mainly (but not exclusively) happening on lossless tracks. I have seen this has come before on teh forum - but not a definitive fix. I've tried the 5 Rs. Any ideas?
