Display failed on Pavilion dv9730nr

On Pavilion dv9730nr laptop, running Windows Vista Home Premium, the display does not come up in any readable fashion on boot.
The display at first ran OK for several minutes before the screen went blank (or very badly scrambled), but it got progressively worse to the point where it will not boot with a readable display at all. The diagnostics I ran while it WAS working a little said the video board (display board?) was not working properly and needed the services of a technician.
I followed a number of forum posts, and I gather this is not an uncommon problem fir this laptop, requiring a new video board to be soldered to the motherboard. If sent to HP, they replace the whole motherboard -- and the problem often recurs.
Plugging an external monitor into the laptop results in an identical unreadable display.
I've decided to dump the laptop despite it's being only about one or two years old (past warranty) since it appears to be a complete lemon.
My Question:
Is there a way for me to retrieve my important files from the hard drive? I have lots of other HP desktops that I could attach the hard drive to IF it has "standard" desktop-type power and data connectors (??)
OR, can I directly connect a working desktop to the laptop, assuming the laptop actually boots OK, even though I can't see a readable display on the laptop -- i.e. can I use the connected working desktop as a readable display so I can see what I'm doing to transfer the laptop's hard drive files to a different hard drive?
BTW, I'm very capable mechanically and electronically, so I can handle opening the laptop, removing stuff, etc. I'd get a new video board and replace it, but I think the particular laptop is too unreliable to be worth the repair -- from what I read on the Forum.
As a last resort, I'm guessing there are computer places I could bring the laptop or its hard drive to so THEY could transfer my files for me?
I'm done with HP, especially since the new CEO wants to get out of the computer business.

If it is a thunderbolt version of the apple 27" display, you don't. The TB displays can only work with a TB source.
I also think you are out of luck with the mini-displayport versions of the apple 27" as well. This would imply converting an analog VGA output to a digital input of the 27". I suspect that there is not enough data supplied by VGA for that to work and I do not believe any adapters exist for this.

Error: no boot disk has been detected or the disk has failed!(pavilion 20-b014 . The machine came originally with windows 8. I upgraded to windows 8.1 and put new hard disk. So the hard disk is fine.
However if I turn the machine off for a day and start the next day I get the "Error: no boot disk has been detected or the disk has failed".
I made the hard disk the first to boot the machine will boot and works. Is there a way to upadate the BIOS on
HP pavilion 20-b014? my bios version is 12/4/2012 v.8.09.
I do not understand why the intermittment above error showing on and off.

I understand that your desktop computer is giving you an error message stating that the boot disk could not be detected, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter!
To ensure that your hard drive you computer is trying to boot from is in working order, I recommend following the steps in this document on Testing for Hardware Failures (Windows 8). This should help determine if there is a fault with the hard drive.
If the hard drive passes all of the required tests, I recommend returning the BIOS back to its default settings by following this document on Recovering the BIOS.

AirPlay Display fails only in one Mavericks account (AirPlay Client Identity cannot be established)

I currently running into a strange issue with AirPlay Display and maybe you can help.
I am using OS X Mavericks on a Late 2013 Macbook Pro Retina and trying to use Airplay Display with an Apple TV (V3), all running the latest software revisions.
In general AirPlay Display is working flawlessly in my setup for all types of user accounts (admin, standard and guest). However, in one specific standard user account AirPlay Display fails with the following dialog pop up: Could not connect to "Living Room (Apple TV)" --> (The latter being the name of my Apple TV).
The console output indicates its an issue with AirPlayUIAgents which fails to create an AirPlay Client Identity. Here is the complete log:

I switched between admin and standard user rights for the concerned account but this did not help. iOS Display Mirroring is also working without any issue. I am not sure whether the source of the issue is in OS X Mavericks or the Apple TV.
Does anyone have a clue, what the source of the issue might be?

Thanks for the answer. However, this did not fix my issue. In the meantime I found, that Mavericks is actually not restoring any preference settings in the concerned account: e.g. any settings in the dock, which I apply during a session, are lost as soon as I restart (they survive a simple log-out and -in, but are lost after complete restart/shutdown). The same is true for any other settings I apply e.g. in the Finder.
It seems to me the concerned account has issues with entirely mixed up permission settings, even though I cannot imagine where this comes from since I set up the account quite recently and did not do any particularly special things with it since then. This would also explain why this issue is limited to only one account whereas all other accounts are working fine (including AirPlay Display with Firewall activated). Repairing disk permissions in the disk utility does also not help.

How to connect 5 display to my Pavilion?

My Pavilion PC have 1 PCIe x16 and 3 PCIe x1 slots. I would like to connect to 1 console (VDI/VGA) and 4 HDTV using HDMI, allow me to display different content in each screens. I was told by HP that if I add a grachics card, it would disable the integrated video port. Anyone knows if is possible to create this configuration? If yes, how do I do it? I know I will need extra video cards, maybe even HDMI splitter. Thx in advance.

You would need a graphics card that supports 5 displays. This would most require an upgraded power supply as well.
As an alternate, you can use your current "console" DVI/VGA port for one display and add 4 USB-to-video adapters such as the EVGA UV Plus+ UV39 to drive the 4 HDMI displays.

IMac Display failing after 1 year of average use.

I have a mid 2011 27" iMac (the one with thunderbolt) and the display is starting to fail after 1 year of average use (an hour of use every day on average). The display is now much dimmer on the left half of the display (the GPU sits underneath that portion) and also flickers the whole display now and then to a lower brightness.
I am about 45 days out of warranty and basically will have to cough up $500 to have it fixed by Apple. My questions are... Has anyone else ever had this happen to them? The genius bar employee thought that it was something he has seen happen to displays when exposed to heat over long periods of time. So basically playing starcraft 2 and doing video encoding killed my display if you believe that to be the cause.
Are there any conditions in which apple would recognize this as a manufacturing defect and fix it free of charge? Otherwise it looks like im writing a check for $500 next week.

Today a dark streak showed up on my display right in the middle. It is shaped like a zebra stripe but is dark grey and wont go away.
I too have a mid 2011 27" 3.4GHz i7 iMac with a 2GB Graphics card . Im about 50 days out of warranty.
Seems like its perfect coincidence for apple that 50 days after my warranty runs out, the most expensive thing to repair breaks.
After doing some research it seems like there is a lot of people with this model experiencing this problem.
Pretty sad that my 2005 iMac is holding up better than my brand new iMac.
Been saving up for it for like 4 years and I dont have the money to repair it.
I tried everything, I knew none of the stuff i tried would work but i still tried resetting the PRAM repairing disk permissions all that good stuff. I even have an air purifer/dehumidifier in my room so i dont know what caused it.
I didnt think i needed applcare because ive had my other imac since 2005 without a hiccup.
Ive rendered out 3d animations using the cpu at 100% for days and it still runs fine.
Havent even used my new imac for anything that would put stress on it.
What i do notice is that it runs hot all the time. ever since I got it. Sometimes just doing basic stuff such as browsing safari it can get so hot where i cant touch it. my GPU normally stays at around 70C and the hottest its been was 80C which is still safe. The alluminum is supposed to transfer heat better but all it does is retain heat more and get super hot. the old plastic one i have is 10x cooler.
What i did notice today tho when my screen problem happened, is that the GPU temperatue is at 50C and wont go above it. I monitor the temperature with istat and never have seen it at 50C and below unless i am just doing a fresh boot.
What really concerns me tho is how the screen went out so close to when my warranty expired.

2nd External Display Failing After Yosemite Upgrade

I have a late 2009 iMac 27 (3.06) that ran perfectly fine with TWO external displays (both HP Pavilon 27 xi's). Upgraded yesterday to Yosemite and now 3rd monitor (2nd external) fails to find a source feed. Any advice out there? (#1 external monitor is connected via direct mini DVI to HDMI via a Rocketfish adapter; works perfect; 2nd external monitor is connected via a USB to CableMatters HDMI to DVI adapter to back of HP monitor - worked perfectly for months until last nite; (HDMI to HDMI never worked). Advice? Thanks.

I have used an Acer S230Hl on three Makbook Pros via the VGA wire and a thunderbolt adapter. No problems at all with 10.6, 10.7. Worked perfectly.
With 10.8 the display would not wake up from sleep, most of the time. I found an annoying work around that helped maybe 70-80% of the time: unplug the VGA+adapter monitor feed, and then go to system preferences>>displays>>Color>>open the S230HL profile and then simply plug the monitor back in. I also delayed the sleep feature for 2 hours to prevent the problem, but it happens most of the tiem when I close the lid or put the machine to sleep manually.
Now with Maverick (10.9), even this elaborate this trick does not work. Why the loss in compatability Apple? I've called applecare twice and the techs have not been able to help--and now are not responding or calling me back. Having to reboot my mac 3-4x a day is a major problem. Anyone have ideas for me?

I did not watch the video but it cannot hurt for you to do so. If you need more help post back. I actually think it is easier to replace just the panel as opposed to the entire assembly, but that is me.

B570 display fails after dual monitor display

After running my B570 (1068) with an extended display, the unit went into hibernation. On wake-up the laptop screen is indecipherable garbage. The second display will run to show BIOS startup but then reverts to the built-in screen - which is illegible. Toggling the F3 key does not get a good screen.
I read another post suggesting this is a hardware failure. What parts have failed?

In that case, please try to turn ON any one of the display and check re-installing the driver and this is not possible. The only available is option is to contact our Technical Support for further Assistance to get the details of the nearest Authorized Service Center to get the issue analyzed.

Windows 10 upgrade fails on pavilion 15 notebook pc

Hi,I have a hp pavilion 15 notebook c with AMD A8 processor running factory installed windows 8.1 64 bit version.I have been getting windows update messages and i had already registered for an update to windows 10.But, i have not been able to upgrade. the download process completes and during the initial part of instalation process, it says update could not be completed.I have tried creating media creation tool on my usb and tried to install but failed again.Can anybody help?

Led kdl-ex650 display failed

I purchased a 32" Sony LED TV KDL-650 in may 2012.Now i am seeing a vertical bar of white line and distortions on the screen.I complained to the customer care and they came to inspect the TV.They told that it was the display panel problem which should be changed and it would cost around 14k. I mean after buying a top quality product and that failing within 3 years of use is totally unjustifiable. I never expected this from Sony.I have been a regular customer of Sony from the past.I found out from the repair guy that lot of people are facing the same issue with this model.So i believe that it would be a manufacturing defect.And i request you to kindly considering repairing/replacing it because even if i buy a new panel i doubt that it will aslo fail like this.Terribly disgusted with the quality of product from Sony.I seriously would reconsider buying from Sony in the future if such is the quality of their product.i think the concerned authorities would take it seriously.

I purchased sony bravia led backlit kdlhx750 32 inches 3 d tv, 2.3 yrs ago. 3 days ago it started to show twin pic,lining and distorted resolution. I got frustrated bcz same problem occured with one of my frnd's sony tv 2 mnths back n he spent 12000 for this.
I observed one thing abt sony hardwares by using several prodct of sony, tht it is not last going. My sony hometheatre stoped working within 1 year, my walkman stopped after 6 months, my this led also got malfunctioned in 2 yrs.only one lcd 20 inch bravia which i purchased in 2009 is still functioning.
Other brand like samsung n LG are very last going. My father is using samsung lcd tv for last 8 yrs it is still good working. I have seen these sort of problem only wth the sony users. So now I m totally dissatisfied with sony.now I hv decided to discontinue my loyality with sony. I hv also mentioned this things in my feedback to sony customer-care services people when they asked my feedback.
I spent Rs58000 for this tv just 2.3 yrs back n now after reading about the same problem from several buyers, for me it is very difficult to believe sony n go for repairing on Rs 12000. I hv packed this TV n started using that 20 inch bravia lcd. When I will have sufficient money I will go for other Brand.
Sorry for my harsh feedback...but you can better understand the pain of a 20000 monthly working person who saved that amount in 5 yrs n purchased that tv just for his desire.

Backlight on display failed

I have a 15 inch MacBookPro and the backlight on the display just failed. I purchased it in June and just turned it on last week to a very, very dark display. You can barely make out the screen. I'm able to plug in an external monitor to use it. I'm wondering if the hardware failed or if I inadvertantly hit a combination that turned it off. Thanks in advance.

I am sorry to say that but your laptop needs to be repaired. I had the exact same issue, returned the laptop to an authorized support center and had the Motherboard changed...I waited one month!
I hope you wont have to wait that much...

Time Machine no longer backs up data, but also doesn't display "Failed"

Hello. I've had problems with Time Machine for a while now. First, instead of just performing an incremental backup, almost every day it tries to back up about 59GB of data, far more data than I'm changing. Then it started to fail after the first successful backup of the day. Once it begins to fail the only thing I've found fixes it is completely wiping the backup and starting from scratch. Now most recently it starts to backup (once again about 59GB of data) and then after about 1GB is backed up it just stops, with no message of failure but also not reporting that it backed up anything.

If you are using a Windows partition or the VMware/Parallels equivelents, you might have a big chunk of data out there that does need backing up. Also, if you manually back it up, does it work?

We own a notebook HP Pavillion g6-2213so, windows 8 and is about 5-6 months old still on waranty.
Yesterday the screen just went blank, but i thought it wasprobably hibernating or something.
Now when i try to boot it, the message it gives is wait automatic system recovery.
But since it did this for to long i tried a system check using the start up test and this is what it showed me;

Just to note, i mid may this laptop developed a hard disk problem and we have just recently recieved a new hard disk from The HP support team on our waranty, so this hard disk is barely a month old and this is happening, ineed your help HP.

Try everything on this list first.
If no success, then Contact HP.
The hard disk is an item that can be replaced by the owner. The hard disk is covered under warranty and will be sent at no cost to you.
Locate your recovery disk set or usb recovery media so you will have it ready to use when the new hard disk arrives. You will need it to perform a factory image recovery that will return your notebook to the state it was in when delivered.
If you did not create recovery media you will have to purchase a set from HP or an HP partner.

Windows 8.1 Recovery fail HP Pavilion 15-n209tx

Hello sir! I have a problem since i bought my lap HP Pavilion 15 n-209TX before a month ago. Atfirst, I had a recovery problem and i ordered the recovery dvds from the hp contact. Well, at my first acknowledgement, they sent me wrong set of dvds with Windows 8 ( I am in need of Windows 8.1). Then I clarified it with the HP customer service and again they sent me the original set of dvd's. Now, I have a problem that while the recovery process, the second disc is not booting. I checked it through my desktop's drive it was the correct opt dvd and not booting. This is my new lap which i hadn't used it ever since my purchase. KIndly make some arrangements or help me to insist the experts accept my issue so that i can send my laptop itself directly to solve the problem
