Display failure on T60p

The display of my T60p had failed suddenly, as shown below. I thought his was not the problem of the LCD, since the system would hang when I was connecting to the external monitor by VGA cable and Fn+F7. Is this the problem caused by the graphic-chipset (FireGL v5200)? Should I replace the motherboard? Please help. Thanks.

  • Multiple iMac display failures

Hi there, my late 2009 27" iMac has had two display failures since I purchased it.  The most recent replacement was done by Apple in Nov 2012 while still under Apple Care.  It is currently in need of a third display (the replacement one has failed after 23 months), is this normal for this product that will be five years old next month?  Or do I have something else that is the issue or perhaps a lemon product?

That a UPS unit would have prevented your logic board failures. Properly designed power supplies do not need a UPS unit in this country. In some third world countries where the power is unreliable on a daily basis with large power swings, they are a must have.
In my opinion, the G5 iMac's were a poor design with inadequate heat dissipation, weak power supplies and logic boards. Most of them ran for years, but an inordinate number of them had multiple failures. The new aluminum models are a much better design with most of the high heat components located at the top of the machine.
I had no hardware problems with my eight year old Dell...but I'm still sticking with Apple because of their superior software performance.
Good luck with what ever you decide...virg

Firefox comes on, I go to a site rich w/ visual content & then the screen goes black & then white w/ with a bubble from the bottom bar saying recovery from igfx display failure..this used to happen on my Chrome browser (the Chr browser recovered spontaneously But I removed & reset it... still the problem went on & I quit using Chr for2-3 mos. There never was a problem on Opera. Hey! OPERA rule. As foe IE 8. That instrument is completely useless. Even all areon IE appears to be dead...Thanx!

Try disabling hardware acceleration in Firefox.

  • Which MacBook Pros are safe to buy used and not recalled for video graphics/display failure (due to overheating)?

I've had some bad luck with MacBook Pros lately. I bought a 2010 model but it was effectively a Total Loss because of a vehicle accident. From searching with Google, people have reported logic board failures. Who knows if mine would've failed, too.
Then I bought an older 2009 MacBook Pro and that eventually failed due to the graphics chip failure. There was a recall on it but the problem occured JUST after the recall period expired. I don't have a microwave solder lying around or a proper setup to fix the problem myself.
Now, I im in the market for a used MacBook Pro, as a gift (I can't afford a new one right now) (with the luck I have, I'm basically done with them but the person wants one).
I've seen some 2011 models priced quite attractively, which caused me to do a quick check and find that the (early) 2011 models also have video graphic failures. I don't get it. I understand paying for the name, but the name also has to have reliability and you don't hear about video graphics failures from some of the more well known PC manufacturers..just saying.
I'd strongly prefer to not purchase any retina models, if at all possible. I want a mechanical SATA HDD and an optical drive. I oppose proprietary components -- as I understand it, the retina models make it nearly impossible to upgrade.
Which used MacBook Pros are safe for purchase? In other words, which ones do not have recalls or are susceptible to video graphics/display failures? I don't want to put the money down for one, only to hear it kicked the bucket and it needs service and is out of warranty.
    Thank you for your time.

  • What is the average price apple repairing IPhone4s Display failure problem?

what is the average price apple repairing IPhone4s Display failure problem?

It depends. If your still within warranty and the display failure isn't your fault you just back up your phone then go to any apple retail store and they'll give you a new one for free. If it is your fault I would still back up your phone and go into the store. Then they'll charge you about £150 and will give you a new one. But you must have your phone backed up. That will be the first thing they ask you.

  • Second iphone 6 with the same display failure

Two new iPhone 6 (16Gb gold) purchased on different dates have display failures within 10 days!  The display will suddenly show blue and white verticle lines over the whole screen. One phone had totally display failure (no image) after power off / on.  The other phone intermittently had the issue about every 10 minutes until replaced.

If you set up the second device using a back up fro the first, you may try setting it up as a new device. Otherwise return it.

  • MacBook Pro 15" Display Failure- Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT

some people are getting positive tests and some are not. what is the deal? clearly the problem is all the same. i think apple needs to step up and realize that any computer shipped out with this gpu is a failure. quite frankly i've read tons of people sending it back for a 3rd and 4th time because the "logic board" has failed again. no apple its clearly the graphics card.
i hope i get some decent service tomorrow at the apple store. apple is really beginning to make me question whether it was worth paying over 2k for a laptop which didn't even last 2 years

Purchased my MA896LL in Jun 07, the original video card failed in Aug 08, before Apple offered the 'xtended Nvidia warranty program' ... w/ no applecare, I told the apple store and their phone support of this known issue being reported, after alot of negotiating they repaired for free ... was satisfied with response at the time ... until almost exactly a year later in June 09 the same problem started again, distorted video etc ... went to 2 differant apple stores, they both ran the infamous Nvidia test, both said it was not the GPU ... I told them it was a matter of time until it failed completely and in Aug 09 it did ... verified failure @ apple store, computer is out for repair under the xtended warranty ... 2nd failure !!! to me its very clear this is not a issue of a bad lot of graphics cards but a design issue, and I'm confident it will fail again in another year ... to their credit Apple has been helpful but replacing the logic board is just a bandaid ... in my opinion the only proper solution is to replace failed MBP's with a new model w/o this design issue, and bill Nvidia for it ...

    Not 20" or 23"?
Anyway, it may be the backlight inverter.

    It worked for me.
P.S. You're still on OS 10.2.x? Time to get the update

  • 2008 iMac display failure, dvi out to another display?

Computer seems to be running fine, but display was intermittent and now blank.  Can I bypass
Imac screen by using dvi out to another display device?
    thx

    Dave,
Thanks, too late now but I wonder why the Apple Genius didn't mention TDM when I asked about backing up my data? He said data would be safe unless Apple Store roof caved in.
All indications are that the video card is bad and Apple Care expired 9 mos. ago.
Good news is that replacement card w/labor is only $170.
Just hope that is the only work needed.
Genius thought my son's constantly playing Minecraft may have stressed the video card's limits  .
    Thanks again.

  • How to get a INTERMITTENT Display failure fixed?

I have a user that has a 15" Mac Book Pro just over 90 days old. I have looked at the system and the display will intermittently come up BLANK when it wakes up. If you open the display it will light up all bright but there will be no image. If you open and close the lid an inch or two back and forth it will INTERMITTENTLY bring up the image on the display. SOMETIMES if you close the display all the way and then re-open it, the display will work. I called the Apple Support line, but of course it is outside of 90 days so they want to CHARGE my credit card to trouble shoot the thing. I booted the device from the original DVD that shipped with the system and it has the same problem. I have even take pictures of it. I had the user of the system take it to the local "genius" bar. They would not help the user because the problem was intermittent. So how do I get an Apple Product fixed when Apple won't even look at it unless I pay them to troubleshoot it over the phone?
This is NUTS! I started supporting Apple products more than 15 years ago. I've never had such a headache trying to get a simple problem fixed. I'm part of a government research agency that does not hand out credit cards for diagnosing silliness. How can I communicate the problem to Apple when they won't the only path is through the "genius" bar that if it can't see the problem it can't exist?
    Anyone got any ideas?
    Thanks.

1.Apple is NOT charging you at this time.
They are merely getting a credit card # in case the problem is caused by something other than a warranteed item.
2.Intermittent symptoms make it difficult to diagnose problems.
Example:Take your car to a mechanic.Tell him "It did something twice, but it's not doing it now.Fix it".
If he can reproduce the problem,he may be able to effect repairs. If he can't,odds are he'll send you down the road.
3.If the "user" is the owner of the MBP,they need to use their own credit card.
If the "Government Agency" is the owner, you need to escalate the repair request up the Chain of Command to someone authorized to pay for needed repairs to equipment.

  • Display failure

Hey I've read a bunch of threads on this topic but I'm still unclear as to how I should proceed with this problem.
The other day, I tried to wake my MacBook from sleeping and the display was really dark - almost black). I tried adjusting the screen brightness but it did nothing. I could see a faint faint image of my desktop.
Note, this has only happened once so far.
I've read everything from this problem being random and minor to it being a result of defective hardware.
Should I take the MacBook in to the Apple Store (as my one year warranty is nearly up)? Or should I brush this off as a one-time, random occurrence?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have it from time to time... by that I mean, few and far-between.
What I generally do is re-close the lid, let it enter sleep, and bring it back up. This kicks it into gear nearly 90% of the time. The other 10%, I grab a flashlight, or find direct sunlight, and safely restart upon which I do a PRAM reset. That fixes it until the next few/far-between occurance.
Since it doesn't happen to me on a more common/predictable basis, I'm not concerned... yet.

  • HP TouchSmart IQ78D Display failure

In November 2007 I bought a IQ780D from Wattana computers in Pattaya Thailand, they are an approved HP reseller. In March 2009 the display failed, the LCD lights but no display, I sent the unit to HP in Bangkok who took 2 weeks to tell me they did not support this model in Thailand, it seems that the unit was bought in Singapore and mostly likely smuggled into Thailand to avoid paying import duty. Now I have something which is only 16 months old, paid 45,000 THB for and is nothing more than a door stop.
Is there anyone out there who can advise how I can get this unit repaired? I will most likely never buy HP in Thailand again as I cannot be sure of getting service. This is no idle threat, I am just opening a software development company with BOI sponsorship, we are in the market for 12 high end work stations, 3  4 core servers and 8 high end notebooks plus several printers.

    Hello MegFord20,
I understand your looking for options to perhaps fix your monitor.
If you click on this link it will provide you a list of authorized parts resellars, you can check and see if these folks to see if they have what you need.
    Hope this helps you.

  • Kernel Panic/Display Failure...

See if you can help with a diagnosis. I turned my 12" Powerbook on, and the screen remained off for the duration of the start up. I tried restarting a number of times to no avail. Then, about 6 hours later, I try again. The screen comes on with the Apple logo, but below, the status ring animation is distorted by salmony-beige colored lines (which were relatively thick). Just after that, a kernel panic box shows up, over the Apple logo. It too is distorted by the salmony-beige colored lines. So, I restart the computer, and sure enough, this time I don't even get an Apple logo as the display is once again dark. I have tried hooking it up to an external display, but the external display doesn't recognize the signal and there's nothing happening there. Thanks to all who are willing to help!!!

    Neal:
The display issue is a bit troubling. If you can locate your Apple Hardware Test disk, see if you can boot from it and run the tests.
In terms of the display, if you use a light source like a flashlight and shine it from the back of the display and see if anything is visible on the display. This would indicate a back-lighting issue. Otherwise it looks suspiciously like a logic board issue.
If neither of the above works you might try shutting down and leaving the computer in a cool place for 24 hours or so (some people have been known to put it in a plastic bag and put it in the refrigerator; if you do that keep it in the plastic bag for 20-30 minutes after taking out of the refrigerator to prevent condensation the computer). Then try starting up again.
    Good luck.

  • PWB 12" display failure - suggestions ?

My powerbook display has failed due to child abuse-lol. So it seems obvious the display itself is damaged or the ribboncable. What are my options for replacement . I live in mexico but I've got an applecertifiedguy near , so shipping the computer back to the states would be more problematic than , for example , buying a new/used screen and having the replacement done locally. Anyone have any suggestions - all points of view appreciated - thanks

Actually, the screen is no longer a problem, but the superdrive is now non-functioning. I can place cd's and such in, but it does not read and after a few seconds itspits the disk back out. I need a fix for this. Thanks for your suggestion.
