Display font problem after synchronization

On my handheld device, i have both Chinese and French appointment. When I did a hot sync. to my new netbook with window 7 Starter and Palm Desktop by Access, v6.2.2. All the Chinese font become "?" and all the French accent, ie "ç" and "é" became "?".
Is there a way to change the font setting on Palm Desktop by Access?
Post relates to: Palm TX

I figured out the problem. Mavericks comes with Fontcase. I had dumped Fontcase long ago and went to a different font management program. The conflict was between those two programs. I had to get rid of my third party progam to make the display font in any browser and some other programs to work correctly.

    Update:
Tried reinstalling, change the fonts, remove all font clear the cache.
change, look up the settings, looked up size, tried monitor dpi.
checked all the config files for anything remotely related to this problem.
Had a quick look at the bug tracker for google-chrome-beta as well no reported
font problems as far as i can find.
    Update2:
Tried adding custom.css to the browser not even that worked.
    update3: [SOLVED]
    So i solved the problem.
The problem was a faulty font that was stuck and used in the pre somehow.
Removed and added another to the list and somehow that worked.
recommendations - if anyone has this problem in the future.
open firefox and look in the font tab what is used. and remove that
or try to install a fixed one. that should work.
-Nothing has yielded any working results.
So any ideas at this point would be most appreciated.
    Thanks,

  • Font problem after upgrade

After upgrading from 10.6.2 to 10.6.3 I noticed a problem with fonts on my system In some dialogue boxes the fonts are not displaying correctly (see image below).
    http://bit.ly/aRNJGB
And along the menu bar fonts are no longer lined up (see image below).
    http://bit.ly/bWb1zm
Anyone any ideas why this might be? I don't know for sure if it's related to the upgrade but it did happen after restarting when installing the upgrade.

I notice that one of them is with Lucida Grande so ran Resolve Duplicates on that. It seems to have fixed the issue.
I remember that now. A few folks have run into this issue when upgrading a Leopard install to SL. What's likely happening is that the SL installer is not deleting the old version of Lucida Grande. So I would bet you have both the older version, LucidaGrande.dfont, in the same folder as it's newer version, LucidaGrande.ttc.
Check the /System/Library/Fonts/ folder. If both are there, delete LucidaGrande.dfont. You'll need your admin password to complete the action. If the font returns on its own after deleting it, then you'll need to remove it from two places.
First remove it from the hidden location where the copy comes from. It's at:
    /System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/A TS.framework/Versions/A/Resources/ProtectedFonts/
You should see the same two versions of Lucida Grande in the ProtectedFonts folder. Delete the .dfont version. Then go to the /System/Library/Fonts/ folder once again and delete the .dfont version from there. With its copy gone from the ProtectedFonts folder, it will be gone for good.
If you only have the .dfont version in the ProtectedFonts folder, make sure to copy the .ttc version of Lucida Grande into it. If you need to do that, also make sure to Repair Permissions.

  • Font problems after upgrading the OS today

I upgraded this morning to 10.6.3. After upgrading:
In Keynote and in Pages several fonts (10 or more) like Cochin, Optima, etc. are not useable any more. If I open a document all characters of a text written in these fonts have changed and compressed in one place in the textboxes. Keyboard layout of the keys is also destroyed. If I change the font to one which is ok , the text is ok too. Disabling the font or changing the fonts in question is the only way to go now.
The preview of the first page of a document in finder for those fonts is still correct. Also the display of the font in the font-program is correct. If I cut and paste text to a different program, the text will be display correctly for the fonts in question.
This seemed an internal problem of iWorks. Help wanted.
    regards
    esser

    Welcome to the discussions, f.esser.
There are two things I'd try, first, to see how large the problem is, create a new user on your computer and see if there's a problem with those same fonts under that user. If not, that indicates that something under your main user has been installed that affects that usage. If you still see problems under the second user, then it's a deeper OS problem.
Second, reinstall iWork from the disk. If it's a minor problem with iWork and the new OS, performing that, then updating to the latest iWork should fix it.

  • Font problems after 10.6.2 upgrade

    Hello!
Just after upgrading to 10.6.2, al the iwork documents (Pages and Keynote) that use Time New Roman (originally Office documents) are unreadable due to a kerning problem that affects only this font (that I know of).
Did somebody had the same problem and have the fix? I already removed the duplicate fonts. Thanks.
    Message was edited by: ddoneda

I migrated several Word files over to Pages recently. The only warning I got was with Times New Roman in one file which was odd as all the files use the Times New Roman (TrueType font). Once the files were open I changed all the text to Pages Helvetica without any problems (I use Word (Office 2007) under Windows and Word (2004) for Mac OS for documents with bibliographies). My initial problem with Pages was due to Hoefler font which was resolved when I trashed it.

  • Intel 945GM display driver problem after installing Vista on A100 PSAA8

After upgrading to Vista on Satellite *A100-207 PSAA8E-180049EN*, display adaptor "*Mobile Intel(R) 945GM Express Chipset Family*" does not work. In Device Manager, it reports "*This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12)*". Using the Vista driver on Toshiba Website and also tired latest driver from Intel Website to no avail. Re-installed all Vista drivers in the order recommended on Toshiba Website. Also tried multiple removals and re-additons of various drivers to no avail.
If someone out there has the same model, I would appreciate if you could send a snapshot of device manager screen (collapsed to show sub-devices under main devices). Also a second snapshot of device manager showing resources (Device Manager / View / Resources by type). My e-mail address is: [email protected]
Greatful for any other ideas or suggestions.

Problem resolved by a fresh install of Vista followed by all Vista drivers in order as described in the document on the Toshiba website. Thanks to all who reviewed this question. Don't hesitate to e-mail me for details at [email protected] Happy New Year!

  • External Display resolution problem after resetting PRAM

Gello, I've got Fujitsu-Siemens P19-2 monitor hooked up to my MbookPro and after resetting PRAM the correct display resolution disappeared from the "Displays" menu in System PReferences.
So did the refresh rate option...
    What do I do?
I really need to change the refresh rate and the resolution, but the refresh rate button is grey and unclickable, and the resolution simply isn't there (I need 1280x1024).
REsetting PRAM and SMC didn't help.

After a couple of resets everything went back to normal

  • Font problems after 10.6.7

I'm getting lots of strange behaviour relating to fonts since updating to 10.6.7. This is all in things that used to work perfectly.
PostScript output causes errors in Distiller (problems in font definitions); and manipulating PDF objects can cause embedded fonts to become .... unembedded.
As I understand it, there were lots of security fixes to font handling in the update, but it seems to have caused loads of trouble.
The developers for an app I use, Imposition Wizard, have confirmed that things aren't working as they are supposed to and have filed bug reports with Apple.
However, as I do a lot of work with PostScript and PDFs, I will have to reinstall the OS to 10.6.6.

it's impossible to know how my particular combination of hardware and software (Finale music notation; Distiller; Imposition Wizard) is going to react in the absence of other people doing exactly the same thing.
You don't need other people's experience for this, just an extra drive with a partition where you can install an upgrade and test your requirements before moving to it permanently. Lots of people who cannot afford to have OS update problems work this way. Superduper has a "sandbox" feature which makes this really easy.
I always think that if you're going to reinstall the OS, best do it fresh rather than a clone that may already have some cruft on it.
Perhaps. The main value of the clone is that you can keep working without losing the time required to reinstall, which could be important for a particular user on a particular day.

The problem is that your postscript file is using fonts Distiller cannot find. You have the list of fonts that Distiller wants. Locate them and notify Distiller by using the menu item Settings -> Font Locations

  • Strange font problem after kernel update

    Hi,
I recently did a pacman -Su system update which told me there was one new package available which was the kernel. I let it install and when i rebooted my fonts had kind of 'degraded' in kde. They're still usable but they now look like they haven't been rendered properly because of a dpi problem. However, xdpyinfo tells me my screen's at 92x96 dpi and i have all the 100 and 75 dpi fonts installed so i don't understand how this would happen. i even tried reinstalling the nvidia drivers in case it was the kernel module which needed rebuilding.
I never had this problem updating before although i have known pacman to remove things it shouldn't in the past so could it have deleted something??
Hope someone can shed some light on this for me
    Dan

I solved that by resetting the parameter ram, as explained here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238

  • Font Problem after Upgrade to Snow Leopard?

Has anyone else noticed this? I open a Keynote I had just done before upgrading to Snow Leopard, and the Bullets and font are all jumbled together, and don't play when I try to play the slideshow?

I noticed the same jumbled text problem.
When I went to look at Font Book, I see that those fonts are no longer installed. It must've happened when I loaded Snow Leopard last weekend.
Anyway, I went to reinstall fonts, and I see I've got a bunch that got uninstalled. But when I try to reinstall them, like Calisto and Caligula to name the first couple I tried, Font Book reports that there were serious errors when trying to load them.
Does anyone have insights into the vague message: "System Validation" as the serious problem? I don't see a way to get more details about the problem than that.

  • Font problems after update folio tools & iPad app

I updated all of my DPS tools and the ipad app and now for some reason one of my fonts looks very crunchy and jagged around the edges. It looked fine before I updated and now it looks horrible and I don't know what to do to fix it.  Anyone know what I can do to make it look normal again, I'd really apreciate the help?
Here's how it used to look and how it looks now.
    Update:
I have figured out that the problem seems to be with any text that I converted into a button.  If I make it an object then it looks fine.  I don't know why updating my dps tools would make all my buttons look horrible they looked fine before the update but at least I can do a work around now.

it's impossible to know how my particular combination of hardware and software (Finale music notation; Distiller; Imposition Wizard) is going to react in the absence of other people doing exactly the same thing.

  • ETQW segfault and font problems after glibc-2.15-3 update

Hi, hope someone can help with this.
If I upgrade glibc to 2.15-3 there is missing letters at the end of text fonts in the menus and ingame, plus this:
    etqw.x86[1060]: segfault at fffff7fd ip b74805fb sp accc80c0 error 4 in libgcc_s.so.1[b747b000+a000]
in kernel log upon exiting the game.
Reverting back to glibc-2.14.1-4 fixes the issues.
Any ideas on what's going on here? I'm running in 32bit 686 Arch.

    Ok I dug deeper
Problem has got something to do with string function optimisation using SSE. There are a whole bunch of patches related to that in glibc 2.15.
    Like this one:
    http://sourceware.org/git/?p=glibc.git; … d8b5d4faab
Urgh So anyway.. I just thought what the hell and produced a patch to remove ALL of them Love that diff command, reversed
all changes in sysdeps/i386/i686/multiarch directory between versions 2.14 and 2.15, then compiled from ABS, used the resulting
libc.so.6 in /opt/etqw and it worked, lol, no more missing characters at the end of in-game text, menus, chat etc.
Except there was still a segfault from libgcc when you quit the game, but if you rename that file and use the one in /usr/lib then it seems to like that
So.. glibc/sysdeps/i386/i686/multiarch/strlen-sse2.S needs investigation I reckon.
