Display for Two rooms, presentation

I am setting up a studio with a mac controlling one monitor in the booth, and one high-res TV on stage. I can't get a high enough resolution with the current monitor set up (computer monitor is an LG with 1400 x 1050 max resolution (60 Hz), and the TV is 1920 x 1080 (120Hz). I am running at a much lower resolution so that both displays are edge to edge widescreen. For some reason, at the highest available setting, the display is just 4:3 on the stage monitor, but full 16:9 on the booth monitor. The owner just purchased a monitor of equivalent resolution, but half the refresh rate of the TV. My side question is, will running the TV at 60 Hz present a problem when filming, or should we push to get a 120 Hz display at both ends?
Ideally, I want the stage TV displaying simple animations, pictures and videos, while showing the desktop only in the booth (which won't work with them mirrored) what should I use to get this configuration?

to clarify, the new, high res booth monitor has not arrived yet, so I haven't been able to fiddle with it.

Configuring Mac Pro for presentation on two projectors + presenter's view

I want to know how to order a Mac Pro that will support the presenter's monitor, and two audence video projectors for presentation. There are several graphic card options. Would the included graphic card do, or do I need to upgrade to another? When the discription says that it supports a dual DVI port, does that mean powerful enough to support a pigtailed dvi cable? For example:

This computer will be replacing a lame Dell PC at church. It will need to display the presentor's view so that the operator can see his desktop and the program (Keynote), the audience sees the slides on the big screen, and the worship team and pastor can see what is on the screen behind them without turning around.

You should be able to do this without a problem using a single card (7300 or x1900) without a problem as both have dual DVI ports (the single-link port should be fine for projector resolution). Plug one DVI port into the project and another into the presenter's display. Then go to Displays in System Preferences and set the displays to "mirror". This will mean that the same information will be displayed on both the display and projector simultaneously.
Hmm. I just reread your question and saw that you're really talking about 3 displays (2 projectors, not 1 + the presenter's display). Don't know about a pigtailed DVI cable to split the image to 2 displays/projects. Someone out there would probably have an answer on this. If you cannot split the signal to 2 displays you'll definitely need to buy another card as there are only 2 physical ports on the 7300 (or x1900) card. The dual-link/single-link has to do with how the port is used where dual-link is needed for higher resolution displays, like the 30" Cinema Display. So, an additional 7300 should do the trick. I don't have experience configuring 3 displays using the System Preferences but with the 2 x 7300s you should be able to achieve what you're looking for. You should be able to have 2 displays mirror with a separate display for desktop/application, all 3 mirror, etc.

One 30" or Two 24" Displays for Logic 9?

Hi, would it be preferable to have one 30", or two 24", LCD displays for Logic 9 use specifically?
The views, or windows (not sure what Logic calls them) will be mainly for audio/midi tracking, audio/midi editing, VI tracking and mixing of rock music. I may occasionally also need to tweak an effects plugin during mixdown.
I understand Logic can take advantage of dual displays. Can it have the "track" window on one display and the "mixer" window on the 2nd display?

Yeah - I'd have 2 x 24" over 1 x 30" anyday (24" is pretty big anyway). As SC said, you can have your mixer etc on the other one and you can permanently see what's going on. Also you can send movies to the other screen which is great if you score to picture. Definitely take time to set up screensets, it'll speed up your workflow massively.
I've just set this up myself and I'm very pleased with it apart from the fact that at the moment, I open a plugin from the mixer and it opens in the other screen. Not sure why it's doing that but I'm sure there'll be a workaround (any ideas sampleconstruct?).

Hi yes that works well when the new ipad hasn't been used. Trouble new one has been used for two months or more, has lots photos email etc etc. I am worried that these will go. When we did iPhone thru same process finished up with two of most things pics and emails. The emails alone were over 2 thousand and wife reluctant to delete them all. I would and just sort pics. Any other ideas

I was just trying out some clustering workshop on weblogic. I faced a issue..here is the scenario :
I have two clusters :
Cluster1 : 3 managed servers (server1,server2,server3)
Cluster2 : 2managed servers (server4,server5)
I have two sample applications which i have deployed on these two clusters i.e app1 on cluster1 and app2 on cluster2.
These two aplications are deployed successsfully as i am able to open these applicatons from browser by calling the individual port of the managed server like : http://localhost:7003/app1.
Now i have installed a apache server on my laptop and configured the http.conf file.
Issue : I am not able to call both the application from apache. If there is only one cluster then it is working fine and for two application only one cluster (application) is working that too whose port is defined in the last.

This configuration is weird little bit. There is MatchExpression /app1 and MatchExpression /app2 and at the same time two <Location /weblogic> sections. Are you sure you understand what that configuration stands for?

Is there any way to run a timer on the presentation screen during two consecutive presentations?

I administer exams that require running two consecutive presentations and interact with the person being tested. With each candidate we use two different presentations, so I can't just make only one presentation. Is there a way to have a timer display on the presentation screen through both presentations? Each person only has thirty minutes to get thru both presentations. If one only takes ten minutes, then they have twenty for the final one. I'd like to get away from using egg timers.

Transfering and opening files between two rooms

Hey guys,
Hope everyone is having a good week. This is an odd one. Just started on this most recent film...
We have two rooms that are identical to eachother, purpose being that themes can be written in one room, and then smaller cues can be assembled from these themes in the other room. We normally transfer cues between the two rooms over our network. This system has worked fairly well for quite some time. But recently, we've experienced odd issues.
We'll call the main room "A", and the second room "B".
If a cue gets copied from A to B, and it has Stormdrum in it, when playback is started, a loud high pitched buzz comes from the Stormdrum channel. The only thing that fixes this is taking out the Stormdrum, saving, closing Logic, restarting Logic, opening the cue, and then reinstantiating Stormdrum and it's multi preset. The buzz thing is weird.
If a cue gets copied from B to A, and it has Kontakt 2 in it, while the cue is loading, the following error message is displayed:
"Kontakt 2: Error parsing input file at line 522"
Never seen that one before. I am going to try repairing and verifying permissions, and see if that helps. Maybe a little zapping of the PRAM?
Any suggestions? Anyone know what error parsing input file means? That's a new one. And why all of the sudden would Logic have a problem with copied sessions between the two rooms? The last film was so smooth, no errors, no copying problems. It was so nice. Now we're back to kooky error messages and buzzing plugins.

Ok, there are two issues here, which may or may not be related.
The first is the NI issue (is it just the NI plugs (Kontakt, Intakt, Kompakt) that are giving you these errors btw, or do you get similar funky behaviour on non-NI stuff?)
The second is almost certainly a permissions problem.
Those two errors are indicating the same thing - that the file write failed. This could indicate that Logic didn't have the correct permissions when trying to write to the disk, or that it was trying to overwrite a file that it didn't have the permissions to overwrite - for example when using crossfades, Logic writes out the little overlapped transitions as fade files, and needs to refresh them under certain conditions (like, when you changed some fade settings, or you first hit play, when Logic updates the fades before playback etc).
Permissions can be a pain, or they can be easy to deal with. I would suggest you have a look at the main song folders and do a get-info in the finder, and have a look at whether your user has permissions to overwrite them - you can change the permissions back to your user and "apple to enclosed" to reset all the permissions on the current folder down (recursively).
This is primarily to do with writing files BTW, rather than reading them, so if you are writing things anywhere else, such as settings files, audio files, and so on, take a look at the permissions of their locations as well.
Also, you might want to try running a "repair permissions" from disk utility, as sometimes things can go a little screwy.
If you really get problems, sometimes there can be some odd stuff going on with your user account on your Mac, so if things get bad, it's often worth checking whether you still get the same behaviour when logged in as another user (this is a last resort step, as you'll probably need to reinstall or move some stuff, depending on how you set your machines up.)
The NI think might be a little more tricky, as NI stuff still has some, er, "colorful" behaviour on Macs, although it's much better than it used to be. I'd probably run some tests of some sample new songs, moving the files to the other room and opening them up - do they always give the errors you are seeing, or is it only on some songs? Do they error when only using single instances, or only multiple instances of the plugs? That kind of thing.
Also, try these tests after you looked at the permissions stuff, because the two problems may be related, with the NI stuff not being able to load or access certain files giving random problems - I'm not saying that's what it is, but it's worth checking on the offchance...

The "Two Dots" for two springboards default?

Correct me if I'm wrong, the two dots on the top of the dock, below the springboard, indicate that there are two springboards available for viewing. Are these two dots present on the default iPhone and when there are no apps. in the other springboard since 1.1.3(4)? I have an 8GB iPhone that I bought last december which has 1.1.4 on it but doesn't display the two dots unless I turn on the process that allows you to reorder apps. on the springboard or if I add apps. to a second springboard. Is this default behavior or should these dots at the bottom of the springboard be there at all times?
(I've noticed these two dots on all the pictures Apple displays of the iPhones in their factory defaults screen.)

The number of dots that appear are determined by the number of Home screens you have; you can have up to 9. This feature was introduced with 1.1.3. If you only have the one Home screen, then I think you'll see no dots, rather than one, but I'm not sure about this as it's been a while since I only had the one Home screen.
Edit: Just tested it. And yes, if there is only the one home screen, then you see no dots, until you activate the icons, at which time you see two dots - one white and one grey. If you had two screens and activated the icons, then you'd see 3 dots - two white and one grey. And so on. Seems like normal behaviour to me.

Click the "Options" tab on the PowerPoint toolbar,
then select "Play Full Screen" from the "Movie Options" group.
The "Options" tab is located directly underneath the "Movie Tools" button.

To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network,Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
Then hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'
and select the Library that you moved. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.
Your first option didn't work because you imported one Library to another. Every version and thumbnail is imported like a distinct photo, you lose all your Albums, Keywords etc., the link between Original and Previews is destroyed, the non-destructive editing feature is ruined and so on. In summary: it's mess.
Your second option didn't work because you simply referenced her library on the old machine.

Can I use my iMac as a 'display' for my MacBook Pro?

Hi all, I am really hoping someone can help me here.
I am wondering if I can use my 24" iMac as a display for my MacBook Pro (both running Snow Leopard).
It's my father's 80th birthday party in about 24 hours time. I am doing up the music and slideshow (thanks Apple - so easy!).
My plan was to simply take my iMac and use it. However, I managed to drop the wireless keyboard (darn those dogs) and now my keyboard won't work. I have no backup keyboards here (gave the wired one to Dad to use with his Mac mini). I live in a country area with no access to a Mac store and it will take more than 24 hours to get a new one. Went to my local 'other computer' general store last night: I really don't want to buy an ugly black keyboard..... I have just had a great idea:
Can I network my MacBook Pro and use it as the source for the slide show and simply use the iMac as a display? I have plenty of DVI adaptors but am just not sure how I would go about the software side of things? Or should I simply buy an ugly PC keyboard (and if I do, will the WIndows button work as an Apple button???)
Any suggestions would be really appreciated.

The imac 24 can't be used as a monitor over a DVI connection or the like, Suzanne, but you may be able to achieve what you want to using "Screen Sharing" by networking the two computers. This lets your MBP effectively control what is running on the iMac.

One possible problem may be actually getting this set-up on the iMac if it is not already enabled, however, unless you can borrow a keyboard from someone (your password may have to be entered to enable it). You may be able to get around this, if necessary, using the "keyboard viewer" (which you can place in the menubar using System preferences > Keyboard, if you don't already have it there).
