Display grew a wart!?

Hey all,
So I've got a Macbook Air, bought new in August 2014. I like to think I take very good care of it, can't figure out how this happened but wanted to see if there was anything that can be done about it.
This week I noticed a dot in the upper right hand side of my display, about the size of a pin head. Thought it was dirt or something so I tried washing it off, then picking at it when it wouldn't budge. Nothing happened.
So by getting real close to it, I noticed that this is part of the screen, like the plastic expanded a tiny bit; the best way to explain it, its like a pimple or a wart, somehow my screen has grown this little dot and I'm not sure what to do about it. It is small and out of the way, so not the end of the world if I can't get rid of it, but I was curious if anyone else ran into a problem of this nature and what did they do about it? Is it possible for more to appear?
The only thing I can think of that could have happened is that a pixel got overheated but I don't know how, I keep my screen at mid-level brightness or lower at all times.
Anyways, just hoping for some help or advice, thanks!
tl;dr - I take care of my mac, but screen grew a small wart in the corner, how do I get rid of it?

Verizon's iphone has a Yellow hue. And I dont believe its going to "cure" or go away ...
PS: For those of you like "Thomas" who say its "Just fine". Please hold your AT&T iphone up next to your Verizon iPhone. You'll see its not "just fine". Love when people just rattle off comments like this with zero research...
Since I don't happen to have both an AT&T iPhone and a Verizon iPhone, I did a different test. I viewed a photo on my Verizon iPhone and held it up next to the identical photo on the screen of my MacBook Pro. The iPhone photo was very slightly darker, but there was absolutely no color cast. I repeated this for a number of different images with different palettes, and none showed the slightest yellow color cast.
Note that one should not confuse reading posts online from people with zero technical knowledge talking about a "problem" with actual research.

  • DW 8 page rendering

Hi, I have been using DW for many years. Recently I switched
from developing static sites to using CMS applications like Joomla
and Drupal. While I mostly use DW as a text editor when I write PHP
and HTML, I like to use its CSS interface to fine tune my
    templates.
I will capture the raw HTML from a live CMS page, save it to
the local site, re-link the CSS file I want to work on and I am
able to make changes to the CSS quite easily. I like the fact that
DW allows me to research how many rules apply to a given layout
    element.
The problem I am seeing is that my templates use very
advanced CSS and DW simply does a terrible job of displaying the
layout properly. In the browser it Will look fine but in DW layout
view it looks like a mess. It's still advantageous to me to work
that way as I can upload the CSS file to the server, refresh the
browser and see the changes visually, but it would be nice if DW
actually showed the layout as it appears on the browser. To give
you an idea, here is an example:
    Dreamweaver
    Layout view
    Browesr
    page IE7
Clearly, this rendering is not acceptable. All I am asking is
that DW at least resembles the browser view, I am not expecting
pinpoint fidelity (although it would be nice). Why is DW so screwed
up compared to the browsers and is DW 9 going to fix this?
I am hoping for a fix or I will have to move over to
Expression, which does a great job of rendering pages.
I do like the way DW handles CSS and I find it quicker than
working in pure code view. At least I don't have to remember every
single Hex value and I can apply changes rapidly, but as far as
layout per se it is useless.
Could it be that I am not setting DW correctly? I'd like to
hear your opinions on the matter. Thank you

OK, so we will not let it die. Fair enough.
Maybe I should explain how I use Dreamweaver to work with CMS
and e-commerce open source (OS) applications.
Because of the dynamic nature of some OS apps, foreseeing
what the page will look like after it is parsed by the server it's
often difficult or at least time consuming. So I run the page in a
browser, view source, save the plain HTML page in the local
directory, remap the CSS files to the page and go to work on both
the code and the css. Since I remap to the actual local copy of the
CSS all I have to do to see the changes on the live site is to
upload the CSS file to the server (with a custom Key combination
easier to do at speed than the default one) and view the change
live. If the page needs a code change in PHP, I make that change
and repeat the process. I also backup the file locally just in case
I have to revert but DW multiple undos even in saved pages is
another great feature that allows me to work more effectively.
What I find invaluable in DW is the ability to choose a style
or tag in either source or layout, see the parents of that tag,
quickly jump to that specific line of code, make the change, save
and upload. I also use the Firefox Dev Toolbar and while it more
precisely affects the visual rendering of the page, finding your
place in a large CSS file is more laborious and error prone. Plus,
DW ability to suggest proper syntax and color code the text is very
helpful at the end of a long day. The FF toolbar has no link or
even a search feature, no color coding and certainly doesn't have
the helpful code suggesting feature. DW on the other hand offers
much more powerful tools that offset it's display shortcomings.
If DW had the ability to better display layouts and CSS rules
it would be the perfect tool for me. Currently, any Div positioning
takes more time simply because I have to constantly upload the CSS
file on the server and refresh the page for each and every small
change I make. A better rendering engine would cut down on the
process. Otherwise It is still fairly easy for me to work with it.
It just requires some more imagination on my part. It's as simple
    as that.
Al Sparber point is well taken. I realize that other tools
may use the actual browser engine while DW doesn't. Would including
a browser engine view be out of the question in DW? Some Mickey
Mouse applications such a Coffee Cup HTML do. What puts DW above
these applications is that in most cases it will not rewrite your
code. A must if there ever was one. DW CSS tools seem to be a
perfect fit for the way I work. My memory was severely impaired by
an illness I suffered a few years ago (from which I almost died)
and remembering code is a chore for me these days, so using DW
makes my job easier in that respect.
The main reason I posted in the first place is that I was
curious to see how others had dealt with the issue. Apparently no
one else has had this problem. We all work differently and I am not
that surprised. CMSs are popular, but I have not yet encountered
anyone else working with them quite the way I do.
I wanted to comment on another thing Al brought up:
    > The only other issue I'd like to clear up with you
    relates to your comment
    > about our code [project VII] being hard to adapt to CMS.
I am very aware of how a CMS works. I have been working with
dynamic application in Java, ASP and PHP for most of my career, and
I am sure that Project VII code can easily be adapted to CMS use.
What I meant was simply that I did not have a chance to work with
it. Not that it was impossible or overly hard. I am sorry for any
confusion (not to mention I have lost my Project VII license).
And Gary, I appreciate your willingness to help with the
code, but at the moment I don't think it's necessary. Even the page
I posted, with all it's problems, illustrate the point that it
looks one way in DW and another in any browser. I don't think
anyone can argue the evidence that in DW that page looks like it
went through a blender while any modern browser will display it
properly, warts and all. It's size and code are really not the
issue. For kicks I deleted much of the JS and the inline CSS and it
still looked the same. When I deleted the right column Wrapper DIV
suddenly most of the page looked normal. I will actually look into
that more as it may explain exactly what will break the DW display.
However, I do not expect nor desire to place that burden onto
anyone else as I don't think it would be fair. This was not a page
specific technical post and I was not trying to solve a specific
    issue with that page.
I thank everyone for their participation in this discussion.
Evidently a better rendering engine is not forthcoming but what we
have now is sufficient if not perfect.
    Take care

  • IllegalStateException when changing display mode of JFrame

My application has an information console inside a JFrame. The console is continually updating and repainting.
I let the user drag this window wherever they want, resize it how they want, etc. I also give them the ability to select one of three display modes:
    - "Decorated Window"
    - "Undecorated Maximized Window"
    - "Undecorated Fullscreen Exclusive Window"
The toggling between modes normally works well, but occasionally an "IllegalStateException: Buffers have not yet been created" is thrown by (from what I can tell), a component on the console that's trying to be repainted.
Seems obvious to me that something doesn't like the fact that the JFrame has been disposed for an instant and can't deal with it appropriately. Question is, what the hell can I do about it?
I believe everything continues fine despite the exception (although I have a hard time reproducing on my system), but still, it's a wart and I'd like to chop it off.
Here's my code for changing the window mode.

  • Opening a program on external display

I'm trying to run the Spyder2 calibration tool on my external screen but when I run the Spyder software it opens to full screen on the main MBP screen. Normally you just drag and drop to the other screen but there's no way to drag a program that is running full screen and I can't figure out how to get it windowed and draggable.
    Any thoughts?

Oh I forgot about that. I grew up a couple weeks ago.
I supposed mirrored mode is one way. Any other ways that allow me to keep dual-displays for other programs that do the same thing?

  • Displays backlight doesn't turn off completely!?

When I fade off the backlight of the display there is a spot in the center where i still can see what is displayed, the rest is dark. It seems also that this spot grew in the last time a bit.In the dark this spot is clearly more light than the rest of the display. its about the size of a golf ball.
Anyone who has the same "problem"? Any suggestions?
    Thanks for the help!

Are you sure it is not just a result of room light bleeding in through the back of the case where the Apple logo is? With the MacBook turned off or sleeping, look at the dark screen while holding the MacBook up to a window. You will see that outside light from the window shines through the Apple logo and the screen. Could that be what you are seeing?

  • Display corruption with ATI Radeon X800 XT

I installed an ATI Radeon X800XT card and my 23" Apple display got so corrupted I had to remove the card and get back to my old tested ATI Radeon 9650. The symptoms were as follows: soon after startup, a few white pixels appeared near the center of the display. In a matter of minutes, the amount of white pixels grew up exponentially until they grouped in eight vertical bands, thicker at the bottom of the display. If I dragged an application window across the screen, the window "snowed over" with pixel noise and became unusable. In Safe Mode, the card works well. Of course, in this mode I cannot test it with most graphics applications and Final Cut also does not work.
I have downloaded and installed all the latest (well, 2005) drivers from the ATI support website, posted a support ticket with the manufacturer and am now waiting for its response with abaited breath. Meanwhile, does someone on this forum know how I can make the new card work properly? Thank you for your help.

  • A simple display qustion  (I promise!)

So everything about the new MacBook (Aluminum) has got me hooked, except for the display. I saw how glossy the display was and this instantly brought back old memories: Remember the "Gameboys"? Starting with the Gameboy Advanced (GBA), the screen on the GBA was reflective. Whenever i would go out and play it, i had to get it to a certain angle so that 1. The sun wouldn't be burning my eyes and 2. So that i could see the screen, the same applied indoors except with instead of the sun, you had indoor lights.
Then they introduced the GBA with light i think it was called the SP? Well anyways, apparently adding a backlight (i think it was an LED one) helped to alleviate some of the 'reflective' problems of its predecessor, the GBA.
Now flash forward to the MacBook (Aluminum), when I noticed how reflective/glossy the screen was, I grew wary. Something that glossy would surely present some types of problems that involved undesirable qualities, like say the screen kept reflecting images so you had to constantly shift your view (very troublesome). Wouldn't apple have to compensate with an increased LED backlight which would drain the battery further? Or is the glossy screen just something buyers of the new MacBook have to deal with?
Sorry for all the rambling, but I was very concerned that the glossiness of the screen would detract from the overall product. I've heard people say that you have to be a certain distance in a certain angle to 'properly' view the screen. I hope this isn't the case, I really liked the old MacBook (the white one) EVERYTHING about it was amazing. Just this glossy screen has me worried.
So I guess my question is: Is anybody experiencing these problems? Do you have to constantly shift the position of your MacBook or yourself to get a decent view? Or is the view great from almost any angle?
Thanks for the help! (Sorry if I've been rambling)

I got my new aluminum MB Tuesday that will replace my first gen 17 inch MBPro, which has a matte screen. This is my second glossy screen Mac (other is an iMac). In past six years this makes my fifth Mac.
Before turning my new MB "on" for the first time I thought the mirror finish of screen would be a problem, but it is not. I guess if you have to have a very bright light right behind you as you use your computer, you would have to adjust the screen to reduce the glare. You would not to constantly be doing this. Once should be enough. For me, so far, once its on, the glossiness is not an issue. This may be partly because you can turn up the brightness to overcome that issue. I have not been able to view it outside on a sunny day, yet.
I love the screen. The colors are fabulous and the black to white contrast is excellent. I am not a professional photographer. I use my Macs at home and at my office. For the average Mac user, I think the new glossy screens will be great.

My name is Marc Sven Wilson and I am the guitarist for the Tonepoets. Music is my greatest passion and I have been writing songs since the moment I first picked up a guitar in 1995!!
My early influences came from the rock scene bands like Guns n Roses and Iron Maiden, but my musical upbringing was focused around listening to melodic music by bands such as the Beatles, Dire Straights, Simon and Garfunkle, Meatloaf and Chris Rea.
I grew up being heavily influenced by music from the American grunge scene, i.e. Nirvana, The Smashing Pumpkins, Soundgarden, Soul Asylum, The Pixies and many more.
I love music that has melody and substance, music that is real and written by the artist. I don’t really get this pop scene, it is false, so I generally tend to stay away from the unreal elements that kinda music portrays!!
I am a passionate person, honest and loyal. I will always do my best to help people. I am creative and to the point and I love to socialise and meet new people, usually at a party, where ever it may be!! The problem is: after nearly a month passed after I bought the player, yellow, red and blue vertical stripes appeared on the display. then they started to disappear, one by one, after that the display began to grow dim, and now it is almost dark, but when it's dark in the room, one can see dim red letters, showing that the player's still working. What's amazing - the sound quality never grew worse, it is as good as it was when I bought the player. I tried to reset it, but failed, because I don't see what's happening on screen. I tried to upgrade the firmware, I did, and no obvious result followed.. I don't know what to do..

It is not normal, you should leave your player for repair again, use your guarantee as many times as you need, I think you have been a little bit unlucky but they are great players!

  • My Apple display power button is flashing short-short-long.

My Apple display power button is flashing short-short-long. I know what it means and I checked everything and everything seems fine. What can I do to ensure everything is really fine and the flashing stops. The computer and the display worked fine for over a year. It started doing it when I switched my computer off using the power button on the display. it never happened before.
    thanks!

What you might try is unplugging the monitor at it s ADC connexion to the video card and the plugging it back in - all with the Mac turned on and everything working (and flashing).
I had an LCD/ADC flatscreen monitor that would dim the top half of the screen and start flashing whenever I would run Disk Warrior or Applejack or switch to a different startup drive. Simply unplugging and replugging would return it to normalcy - for days or weeks - but sooner or later.... Grew tired of waiting for it to go altogether and bought another monitor, but I tried it the other day on a spare Mac and - sure enough - it started up dim and flashing. Remedy was the same: unplug and replug the ADC connexion and it was back to normal. No idea why!
No guarantee, and no idea how long it might last, but the effort is small and the price is right.

  • My thunderbolt is getting black spots on the display

So today I saw these start happening, seems not good. The first time it happened it grew much larger and much darker. Display is in the sun and that part of it seemed to be very hot. It goes away when I close the shades or shade the spot for a couple minutes with my hand, so I guess I have a solution... but has this happened to anyone else?? Sign or problems to come?

I have never seen this with my Thunderbolt display. You should consider taking your display in to a local Apple Store to have it repaired or replace (your display comes with a 1 year hardware warranty, and is covered by an AppleCare protection plan on a Mac if you purchased the Mac and Thunderbolt Display together).

  • Instructions for G3 display cable fix?

I've got an old ibook g3 model m6497 whose display began blanking at certain angles. The problem grew worse, to the point that virtually no angle would display. I followed the directions at ifixit (fantastic site!) for replacing the screen, and I'm pretty sure that I've got a cable problem: when I wiggle the black wire on the right entering the display, the screen brightens and darkens to match.
However ifixit does not provide the detailed instructions for opening up the display so I can track down where the problem is. I've seen references to fixing the wires/cables in this forum, so can I get step by step directions on how to go about fixing this?

Well as they say, the operation was a success, but the patient died. the instructions you gave were great for opening the display, but I lacked all the tools to pull off a rewire hack. In the meantime, the tests I did run while the machine was disassembled seem to have addled the on/off switch. Oh, well: as you said, it is an old machine, though I would like to think a $1000+ machine would last at least 10 years.
Anyway, the iMac we are buying to replace it has no hinges or disk trays to cause wear and tear, so maybe it will go the distance? : ) thanks for your help!
