Display has checks and then freezes
My iMac has started to some sort of bit rot. While working on a window the window slightly has pixels coming on the window. And then if left alone there is a lot of it. Then if it sits for an hour or so the bits increases as shown in the picture below. Moving the window clears up everything. Then it starts again. This is not just one window of one app but every window of every app
Hmm ... another thing you can try is to install the latest combo release update. You didn't say what operating system level you're at, however, if it were Snow Leopard, you'd want to download the 10.6.8 combo update from the Apple support site at http://support.apple.com/downloads/ . Use Disk Utility (on your hard drive in applications/utilities) to repair permissions, then apply the combo update, then repair permissions again. Sometimes this will fix flukey things that are happening. If that doesn't do anything, you can try and erase and reinstall, or take it to an Apple store, where they have better system diagnostics.

My display scrambles and then freezes
Every so often, my display scrambles/pixelates and then freezes. When I say the display scrambles, I mean parts of whatever window that I have open stay open even when I close them. Also, the dock icons are scrambled as well. Is there a fix?
Same issue here with an early 2009 24" iMac. Picked up last Thursday by AppleCare and currently awaiting repair. Will let you know what the issue for mine is as soon as I get it back. By the way, the issue came to life after upgrade to OSX Lion and got worse after the latest update last week. Cheers

iPhoto 5.0.4 has suddenly stopped working. It loads the photo library and then freezes. Rebuilding the library has no effect which has about 3.5MB of data. PowerBook G4 OS 10.5.8
Create a new account (systempreferences -> accounts or Users & Groups on 10.7) and see if the problem is repeated there. If it is, then a re-install of the app might be indicated. If it's not, then it's likely the app is okay and the problem is something in the main account.

I'm running Lion on a Late 2008 MacBook Air.
With no other applications running, I can no longer Check for Software Updates. It gets about half way through the checking process and then freezes.
The MBA passes Disk Utility. Thoughts?

Mine can sometimes sit for quite a while (maybe 10 minutes??) before it finally finishes.
You could look at the relevant logs via Console (Utilities folder) to see if Software Update is complaining about anything.

10.7.5 suddenly slows and then freezes
My computer has just started to suddenly slow way down and then it freezes completely. When I reboot it seems fine, for perhaps 10 minutes or half an hour, but then it starts to lock up again. Any idea what the problem is? Here is my EtreCheck report:

I bought a replacement drive and am restoring my time machine back up now.
I am a bit annoyed that the B&H guys got this one wrong but I have to give them credit for underselling me rather than overselling me; I do appreciate that.
Also worth mentioning is that the 3TB Seagate drive was less than 2 years old and is supposedly still under warrantee. I am looking forward to seeing what kind of support I get from them.

When i disconnect my iPod 2nd Gen from my laptop, its display goes off and working freezes. Please help me.
The computer freezes? There may be something wrong with the USB port. If the laptop has more than one port, does this happen on any port? If you are disconnecting the shuffle cable from the computer, does it make any difference if you disconnect the shuffle at the other end of the cable first, then disconnect the cable from computer? Or if you currently disconnect the shuffle from cable first, try it the other way.
You may be able to work around this problem, if you get a self-powered USB hub. Something like this one

There are many choices, but be sure to get one that has its own power supply. You can leave the shuffle cable connected to the hub, and connect the shuffle to the hub, instead of directly to the computer. This may provide a "buffer" for whatever is causing your laptop to shut off when the shuffle is disconnected. Since the hub has its own power supply, it will not rely on the computer for power to re-charge the battery. -
Dual 2 GHz PowerPC G5 beachballing and then freezing at random intervals
My computer at work has been beachballing and then freezing at random intervals for the past week or so.
What happens is that all processes stop. The cursor is still responsive for a while, and then the application I'm in, regardless of what it is, “beachballs.”
Occasionally I'm able to wait it out and the computer becomes usable again and other times it just freezes. Then I can't force quit so I have to do a hard power cycle and then start up again. This happens every day, at least 4 times a day.
I've been keeping the system.log open to look for any tell-tale issues and noticed that during every crash I get the following information:
3 kernel[0] disk)s3: data underrun
3 kernel[0]
and it repeats until the computer becomes responsive again or I decide to do a hard power cycle.
In addition, I checked the System Profiler diagnostics area and found this:

So…I switched out the offending bars and switched them for 1 GB bars and this problem was solved.

My two cents would be use Disk Utility first. If you don't have the install disk handy, you can do the same thing with single-user mode. See this link for details: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1417
You have to run it from single user mode (start with command-S keys held down until you get a Unix terminal screen.
You can also run memtest from single-user mode, though I do not remember the command syntax offhand. Looking at an AppleJack log, though, I see the following command line entry that was used to run memtest on a three-pass check

Running memtest from single-user mode tests more of the RAM because little is occupied by the BSD kernel.

Me compre un ipod classic de 160gb cada vez que trato de ponerle musica de mi disco duro externo solo copia hasta 1500 canciones y luego me congela el Itune y no lo puedo cerrar, me pide que restaure el ipod como de fabrica, lo hago y nada. Trato de cerrar el programa de itune y no me deja, trato de apagar el computador y no lo puedo apagar, he buscado para ver si tiene errores el disco del Ipod y me dice que esta bien. Lo he restaurado como 8 veces y le he puesto musica y videos pero siempre me borra todo. He aplastado Menu y Seleccion para entrar al sistemade diagnostic o del ipod y le pongo el test manual donde entro al IO y me dice q todo esta bien. Le he dado ya varios Format directamente desde el Windows 7 y nada tampoco, siempre me borra todo desde que pasan mas de 1300 canciones y me congeal todo el equipo. Ya no se que pensar de esta compania Apple porque no da ninguna solucion ha este tema.
I bought a 160gb iPod classic every time I try to put music on my external hard drive only copy up to 1500 songs and then freezes Itune me and I can not close, asks me to restore the ipod as factory, and do nothing . I try to close the program and itune will not let me, I try to turn off the computer and I can not shut, I looked to see if the iPod disk errors and says it's okay. I restored it about 8 times and I've put music and videos but I always delete everything. I crushed and Selection Menu to enter diagnostic sistemade or ipod and I put the manual test where I enter the IO and q tells me everything is fine. I have already given several Format directly from the Windows 7 and anything either, I always delete everything from passing over 1300 songs and I congeal whole team. If you find a process using a large amount of CPU time (>=70,) then select the process and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar. Click on the Force Quit button to kill the process. See if that helps. Be sure to note the name of the runaway process so you can track down the cause of the problem.

Oh yes they do happen, Bank of America, Chase, Citibank, Target and quite a few others. But in all the years I have paid my invoice with saved card information I never been hacked.
You use good passwords and the risk is minimal.

Run MDP to HDMI for picture. Use a cable like this to run sound from your audio out on your Mac to your TV's audio in. That's about all you can do.

When I follow any kind of links or try to open something in another window or new tab, the browser first shows the white page with text "the document has moved", and then moves to advertisement page of some sort. Usually in the small box where the page description is it says "Jump". I don't know how to disable it, it is really irritating.

The problem is that EACH TIME I open Firefox 6.0 and now 6.1 I just installed it runs a compatibility ad-on check AND then opens the "what's new?" page AS WELL AS my home page in a separate tab. I then have to close the "what's new" tab to get to home page. I never had this problem with all other previous Firefox versions. Any thoughts or suggestions. Anyone else have the problem?
