Display has distored lines?

My Mac Pro 2008 model (quad core, not 8-core) recently came up with a issue that has distorted colors and lines. It shows up on both monitors (I run dual monitors) with my 8800gt. It won't load past the beginning apple start up. I believe it is the video card, so I ordered a Geforce GTX 285. Will it run without a problem if I were to use that with my 10.5.8? Or do I somehow need to install the drivers? Or is it not the video card at all? Thanks!

I am new to Mac and have a PowerBook G4 12" display, and I am having the same problems! I have lines in the graphics, and the taskbar seems washed out and so do menu backgrounds.
I have no idea what I did! And it is driving me crazy.
I have display set at 1024 x 768 and millions of colors.
Any help is appreciated!

  • 19" Samsung 2nd display has "wavy" lines

I bought a Samsung SyncMaster 906bw as a second display for my 24" iMac. I have it connected via the included VGA cable. The displays resolution is at 1440x900 with 60 hertz.
The problem, is that there are wavy lines continuously moving up the display. It's kind of hard to explain, think of those bars moving up a CRT display when they are filmed on video. I've tried adjusting the resolutions and hertz, but no dice. Any idea what could be the problem? Is it the display, or the video card?

    "Wavy lines on the screen:
In some instances you may encounter wavy lines on the screen. These are usually 1/4" thick and move in a vertical motion. This is caused by a noisy electrical feed from a wall outlet. If you change your vertical refresh rate under display properties to 75Hz this effect should disappear.

  • 20" Widescreen display has weird lines after any movement of the cursor

there are groups of blue and red elongated dots (sets of 8) staggered horizontally on the screen, a few persistent and some that seem temporary but occur after any activity on the monitor (e.g. drag a folder or screen)
Some go away after a reboot, but reappear with new activity. Can anyone help?

    To fix a stuck pixel
Increase your display resolution setting to the maximum supported by your screen. Launch the JScreenFix applet (below) and position the window over the stuck pixel. After 5 minutes move the window and observe the results. If the pixel remains stuck, repeat. From extensive testing, most stuck pixels are repaired in less than 20 minutes. If a stuck pixel remains after running JScreenFix for 20 minutes it probably can not be fixed by JScreenFix. You might like to try a pixel massage. Sometimes stuck pixels return after a period of time, JScreenFix deluxe can automatically repair reoccurring stuck pixels when you are not using your computer.
    To reduce screen burn-in
Disable your screen saver. Launch the JScreenFix applet (below) and enter fullscreen mode. This is achieved by pressing F11 in most browsers, if this fails you will need to consult the documentation for your Internet browser. It is important that JScreenFix fills the screen fully or you may suffer additional unequal burn-in. Leave the applet running for about an hour and observe the results. If you notice an improvement, continue running JScreenFix until the burn-in is more acceptable.
Please note that completely removing screen burn-in is impossible but it will fade with time. The only way to equalise a screen image is to burn-in the parts of the screen that have had less use. JScreenFix deluxe is a preventative measure that monitors screen usage and equalises the screen when you are not using your computer.

Screen burn, image retention and recalibrating pixels
Static, non-moving images left on-screen for extended periods of time can leave a "shadow” on , lcd displays (this is true of models from all manufacturers)
You are normally told to avoid extended display of static images. Games consoles can also have a negative effect on panels.
PixelProtector™ will recalibrate pixels uniformly and remove any residual effects that may have occurred.
TV channels that have a static logo permanently on screen have a real negative effect on lcd TV’s and displays. Pixels begin to memorise these images, upon switching channels you will still see the logo in the form of a shadow. After several minutes it will disappear (If not you have burn in). If 99% of the shadow has disappeared you will not notice the 1% that remains. It is the continual build up of the 1%’s that is called residual effect. Not just restricted to TV channel logos. It’s build up over months and even years will lessen the picture quality of you TV. The issues with screen burn and residual effects are far more complex however we have tried to simplify its cause and effect for obvious reasons.
PixelProtector™ can remove burn in and residual effects. It uses a wash tools that switch pixels on and off at a very fast rate (this is not in any way harmful). Included is a white wash for lesser burn in and image fix. In other words it recalibrates the pixels uniformly by removing any memory they may have.
There are different types and levels of burn in. The most severe of which occurs in the first 200 hrs of the panel's life when pixels are at there most excitable. In this time frame pixels can permanently memorise static images that have been left on screen for prolonged periods.
We have many customers who have removed screen burn from their panels by using the removal tool regularly, as per the instructions in the DVD.
In many cases it can be removed after just one session.
If the burn in is not removed first time, it will have been significantly reduced. Don’t forget it is easier to prevent burn in then it is to remove it!
    Dead Pixels
Dead Pixels occur when the individual cells burn out or do not energise correctly, PixelProtector™ DVD Edition can help diagnose and in some cases re-energise dead pixels to help you get the very best out of your screen.
Many manufactures believe that 3 drop outs are acceptable. We believe even 1 drop out is unacceptable.
With plasma TV’s a dead pixel will appear black with LCD it may have only lost one wavelength and is only visible when certain colours are on screen. When you buy a new panel it is worth investing in a copy of PixelProtector DVD as some panel may have a drop out from the factory. Your best opportunity to have the panel replaced is when it is new.
    User Friendly
PixelProtector™ has been developed with home users in mind. During its development stage one of the main obstacles we had to over come was insuring every one could use it (not just engineers and techno buffs). We tested the DVD on many groups of people whose feedback was invaluable in making PixelProtector™ the best product in the market.
We back up our product with full on-line support and help for all our customers.
PixelProtector™ provides a real user friendly solution to making sure your TV is performing to its full potential and that you are getting the best out of your equipment. It easy to use all you need is a DVD player! So click here https://www.pixelprotector.com/screen-cleaner.php
One of the biggest problems with monitors is most people never calibrate them and just use themstraight out of the box, a lot of people don’t even use their drivers disks. If a disk came with yourmonitor, even if it claims to be plug-and-play, use the hardware setup and install it, it gives you allthe correct refresh rates and color depths and screen resolutions possible. This allows getting themost out of the monitor while preventing damage. Also the hardware setup may create an ICCmonitor profile that Windows or the Mac OS can use with its Color Management System, ICM for Windows and ColorSync for Mac. While generally better than nothing, keep in mind it is a generic ICC profile, it can only assume average ambient conditions that are not likely to be yours
Common issues with LCD screens include:
Trailing or blocking effect on screen (pixilation)
    Pixel drop out
Unnatural image blacks are dark grey
How PixelProtector™ can help resolve these issues:
Trailing can bee seen on some panels when bit rate levels are high.
High bit rate levels are normally reached when watching fast action scenes in movies or programs, the image starts to trail or lag and even blocking in some cases.
PixelProtector™ will help to minimize or even eliminate trailing buy calibrating your panel correctly and insuring you have the right settings and connection in place.
Pixel drop outs are one of the most frustrating of issues for anyone who has an LCD. When a screen suffers from pixel drop it can be fixed in some occasions. If the whole pixel is dead then nothing can be done to fix this. If one wave length has gone in the pixel i.e. blue. This can in some cases this can be fixed by recalibrating pixel color production using PixelProtector™.
We have a 4 in 10 chance of fixing the problem.
The DVD will highlight if the whole pixel is dead or if one wave length has gone.
One of the biggest issues LCD’s have is producing pure black. LCD panels produce a pure white light and then subtract the colors that are not required. So to produce black is difficult, making sure that you first calibrate its black and white setting is essential to minimize this issue and get the best from your panel PixelProtector™ includes specific tests and adjustment screens for this purpose.
I know Apple has help me in the past by telling me to make a 100% White pure white screen saver overnight.
I hope I was of help.

  • PowerBook G4 17-inch, display has vertical lines or fades to black

My screen fades to black or It will have verticals lines all over or a single horizontal line .. depending on its mode I guess, but I have to slightly wiggle or twist my screen and then it pops back to normal. Strange.
I have a larger monitor that I use with no problems and it serves as my backup now just incase my 17" screen connection completely drops.
What is the possible cause? I have NEVER dropped my laptop and I have been looking for things similiar on the board. Can anyone help me out?
One possible solution ... just sale it now and get the MacBook Pro.

What may have happened is the power inverter board to the LCD has gotten damaged or the cable to it has gotten damaged. http://www.dttservice.com/ I've found is relatively inexpensive at getting it fixed, if you can't convince AppleCare to cover it.

  • G4 Powerbook Display: weird pink line fault

Can anyone explain what to do about this problem: the display has pink lines all over the place?

    Hi Musicspirit,
this is a long shot, but bear with me: I'm typing this on a TiBook G4 550 on which the videoconnector on the motherboard has to be slightly askew in order to deliver any picture at all. Otherwise its LCD is completely blank. Having secured this tiny plug with a piece of gaffer tape, the connection has not gone astray for 1.5 years and running...
So I'm saying it might be worth your wile to look up your PB model on ifixit.com, disassemble it and experiment a little with the lcd cable/ connector, until all looks well- which may prove difficult with an Alu model.
On the other hand, especially if you open and close the computer's 'clamshell' very frequently, we may be talking plain cable breach here, since the videocable passes alongside a hinge and is severely bent on every opening/closing of the shell.
Assuming of course Applecare has expired on your machine, otherwise: have it serviced under warranty.
    Good luck! And good music!

  • The display has lines and the color is strange.

The Retina display has lines and the color is very light when I turn on iPad mini. When I woke up and turned it on this morning, it happened. I have no idea what happened since the iPad mini has been gotten no physical damage.

    Hi:
I would try a hard reset of the notebook.

If that doesn't work and considering all of the other steps you took to remedy the issue, I would say the BIOS update wrecked something permanently.

  • Qosmio G10 has vertical lines on the display

I've got a G10 which I've been using quite happily for the last 15 months since I bought it.
However, it's now got 4 vertical lines on the display, 2 purple (magenta?), 1 yellow and 1 cyan. Other than these lines there are no other problems, it's never crashed or anything like that.
The lines are always there, they never change in any way and are always in the same place. They appear on the display at very first powerup, before the Qosmio logo comes on.
They didn't all appear at the same time, they have all appeared individually over the last two months. I did see the last one disappear briefly, then stay on.
I'm assuming my display is slowly dying, which I would assume to be an expensive item.
Any advice thrown my way would be much appreciated!
I took a picture of the screen which you can find at:
    http://www.imagebucket.net/images/lldata/displaylines.jpg
Note: picture was taken with Media Player fullscreen on a black image, just to show up the lines clearly)

    Hi
I would suggest connecting an external display to check if it's a graphic card or a display problem. If this lines appears also on the external display so there could be also something wrong with the graphic card.
If these lines don't appear on the external monitor so only the notebook display has a malfunction.
However, this doesn't change anything on your situation. I would recommend contacting the Toshiba ASP for solving this issue.

  • IPad 2 display has flickering vertical lines

My iPad 2 display is flickering and has verticle lines.  It is acting like it is having a graphics card issue.  You can barely make out what is on the screen.  Due to familiarity, I am able to navigate through the menus.  It was not dropped and I am pretty sure there is no water damage.
I took a screen shot of the display, when it downloaded to iPhoto it was perfect.
    Any suggestions?

Not normal. Take it to an Apple Store for evaluation.

My macbook pro's screen display has suddenly gone into a strange colour setting where everything appears in a kind of infrared colour palette an I can;t seem to change it back.  It's the same for all icon and websites, does anyone know how to restore?

Wow!  I think I had this same issue just last night.
I was cleaning my macbook pro retina on the outside.  Then I opened it up and was wiping dust off the monitor and I can't pinpoint exactly when, but the colors changed suddenly.  It looked super strange, it was like green halo's and it looked worse when looking at it at an angle.  Of course I took no pictures!!!  I was freaking out that my 2 grand laptop was busted and I somehow removed a protective film or something.
But I digress...  The image looked very green and spacey, it was almost a neat effect.  After about 5 minutes it started to look a little more digital though.  There were straight lines of this halo effect on the edges and top.  After about 10 minutes it turned into a predominate issue with the blacks on screen.  I could open a web browser and it was unnoticable on a white background.  After about 15 minutes, you could only barely see the green cloud effect if you looked at the monitor from an extreme angle.  After about 20 minutes, it was completely back to normal, I almost feel paranoid like I see a halo or something strange.  But I believe that might be all in my head now.
So yerp, lemme know what you guys figure out.

  • KOB1 - Display Actual cost line items for Orders

    Hi All
A production order has been settled. When the actual cost line items are displayed for the said production order in KOB1, there are multiple line items related to the production order that gets displayed.
The issue we are facing is, in one of the line item, the accounting document has one credit (Consumption a/c) and two debits (one debit is to inventory a/c and another debit is to price difference a/c). However in the report, in the offsetting GL column only one GL code (price difference gl account a/c) but appears with the entire amount.
Ideally two separate line items needs to be displayed with respective line items. Is this a flaw in SAP.
Can anybody throw some light on this and help me.
    Regards
    Prasanna

this is may be config issue.
can you explain with accounting entries for said line items and offsetting GL for each line?

  • Difference in GL Balance display and GL line item display

    Dear All,
Can any one help me why the difference between GL display and GL line items display?
    Thanks in advance
    regards
    Elan

    Hi,
    You can do the following:
    1. carryout gl balance carryforward from previous to current year : Use t.code:F.16
You can cross check the fs10n balance with FBL3N balance from previous years.  Assume these balance are matching for previous year 2007 and 2008, you have this problem only in 2009, then you can carryforward this balance from 2008 to 2009 once again. Some times users may post some adjustment entries as per the auditors recommendations. If this balance is not matching from 2007 itself, then first carryforward the balances to 2008 then 2009.  You can run this transaction no of times.
    2. check the master data of gl account through t.code:FS04, whether any changes has been done to line item display field?
If you find any changes to line item display field then run the program "RFSEPA01" to get all the line items.
3.If your issue was not resolved even after the above two activities, then let me know the  sap version you r working.
    all the best

  • SKB1 is displaying unrelated/extra line items.

    Hi,
I am encountering one problem which is related to KSB1 transaction. It's displaying extra line items which are not related to actual line items . Here is the scenario
Actual Assessment Cycle contains one segment :
Segment1 : Sender Cost Center group CG(C1,C2,C3,C4)1---All these cost centers are associated with functional area FA
    Cost element : 942XXXX
Receiver Cost Center C5,C6,C7,C8----All these cost centers are associated with functional area FA.
    Amount $10
After executing the assessment cycle when go to KSB1 it's displaying the following line items
Doc No      Celement         Val in currency        Cost center     partner cost center    Ref Doc No    f unctional area     Posting date
    76942           942XXXX            $10                              C1                         C5                       76939        FA                       09/22/09
    76939           942XXXX           -$10                             C1                         C5                                         FA                       09/22/09
    76939           942XXXX            $0                               C1                          C5                                         FA1                     09/22/09
    76942           942XXXX            $0                               C1                          C5                        76939        FA1                    09/22/09
I don't know why it's showing the line items which are realted to FA1 and these cost centers ARE assigned to functional area FA not to FA1.Does any one know from where it's pulling this information?Does any one know how it derives the functional area here. I don't know which table has this information(COEP,COEA,CCSS...?) How to fix this?
I really appreciate your thoughts and input
    Thanks

    Hi Shekhar,
What is happening in the system is standard SAP behaviour.. In case you do not want Down Payments to be updated in the system, please follow the steps below:-
    1. Create a new Field status group as a copy of G067 and make it say Z067(Assets field suppressed here) and assign it to Vendor related recon accounts(Spl GL A)
    2. After this, when you create a down payment request in F-47, you will receive an error message F5 378
    3. Go to transaction OBA5, enter work area as F5 and chnage the message no 378 to Warning (W)
This setting will not generate additional line items.
