Display inverted colors / "negatives"

Hi I have a 20inch g5. today the display has inverted colors, black is now white etc. Does anyone have experience of or suggestions for what the remedy is? many thanks

Hi and thanks to Chris that's where the answer is. In fact after posting I googled it last night and found a forum that gave the answer in the fun way of saying hey ain't it cool to flip the colors on your mac like so.....there is a button to click or a group of three or four keys...and then I realised I had unknowingly caused this by dropping whatver on the keyboard and whatever landed on those keys. Freaky. I was worried about an apple repair bill but hurrah for the great advice on these forums (and elsewhere).

  • External display turned color negative mode

Hello, I upgraded to Leopard from Tiger and have been using my applications without much of a problem until today. I was away for few hours and my display suddenly started to show everything in color negative mode (blacks as white, green as magenta etc). Checked all no such option on preferences. I can not get out of it. Pls help. I was using Final Cut Express HD if that is relevant. The other user accounts in the computer are not affected. Thanks.

Press the Option, Command, Control, and 8 keys simultaneously, or turn off White on Black in the Seeing tab of the Universal Access pane of System Preferences.

  • Screen displaying inverted colors

Ever since I updated to 1.0.2, the iPod Nano refuses to display my stuff correctly. Sometimes, it will display everything in inverted colors, with a little sliver on the left being correctly colored.
Then, it will switch back to normal, and flash a white bar on the right side of the screen. It will stay like this until the screen cuts off, then it will go back to the inverted colors.
I don't know what this is, but if it's from the update, they'd better release a new one soon. I'm tired of having my iPod glitchy.

Have you tried resetting the iPod?
Make sure the hold switch is not locked first (i.e. you can operate the iPod buttons)
The press and hold the Menu and Centre Button down at the same time, keep them both pressed until the Apple Logo appears on the screen, then release.

Suddanly Mbp display has got inverted colors with black on white settings. in universal access. When I connect external display(tv), TV display is normal. I reinstalled os x lion. But it did not help. I had this problem before but it solved after reinstalling os x lion.
Did you have this problem? What should I do?

Sorry, its not an external display. I changed out THE display in my imac. When I hooked up my wife's display it was photo negative and the imac was color. I changed the Universal Settings and the external display went to color and the imac went to photo negative.

  • My ipod touch 3rd gen display is inverted colors

My ipod touch 3rd Gen. displays colors are inverted. i have read a bunch of stuff about acceabilty but this one doesnt have that. so im not sure where to go from here.

Go to Settings>General>Accessibility. There should be an entry for Black on White (or it could be White on Black), For later iOS it is titled Invert Colors.

  • Invert colors of single window in i3

    Hello!
I am using i3 WM (awesome WM! ) and wanted to invert colors. In this forum I found that I can achieve it thusly:
    xcalib -invert -alter
And it works great - skype (oh, how I wish i could replace that buggy and annoying thing with something lightweight and FLOSS) and other random windows are now nice and dark but as I already have the standard gray on black terminal and a dark colorscheme for gvim they both are now too bright. Therefore I could really use a way to invert colors only for specific windows and leave the rest of my system, that is already configured dark, alone. Similarly to the Mod4+N feature in Compiz.
Some applications offer the option to invert colors for their windows but not all and it would be nice to have a quick universal means for doing it.
Can you please point me to a possible solution?
Thank you and sorry for my broken English!

Compositing would be required in order to negate the colors of individual windows. As xcompmgr does not support doing this, I think your only option would be compiz.
However, there is a program that I found a while ago called xcalib (in the AUR) that allows you to negate the colors of your entire display with this command:
    xcalib -i -a
There may be a way to do this with the standard X tools, but I'm not aware of it.

  • My mac displays like a negative picture any one knows how to fix it, my mac displays like a negative picture any one knows how to fix it

my mac book pro display  is just turned into a negative picture sort of any one know how to change it back to normal one

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
If you have Snow Leopard, press Control, Alt, Command and 8 keys, so your display will be back to normal.
If you are using Lion or Mountain Lion, you can change this in System Preferences > Accessibility. You have to turn off the "Invert colors" feature, that is available in System Preferences > Accessibility > Displays, in Mountain Lion

  • Inverted color on attached images

I have had this issue for a while where I attach an image to a mail message and the image would display as if it were a negative (inverted color palette.) The recipient would, however, recieve the image correctly.
Today, a colleague sent me an image using Mail and described the same issue. When I received the message, the image color palette was still inverted.
Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone know how to remedy it?
    Thanks!

On an iPhone 4S w OS7.1, how do I keep the camera in regular mode (not negative image) and keep the "Invert Colors" swith to active or pink or (1).

" (1) how do I transfer the files from my PowerBook G4 to the nano? "
In disk mode the Nano will mount on the desktop like any removable dive, just drag the files you want onto it
"(2) How would I transfer them back again if I ever need to?"
Drag them back from the Nano to your computer
"(3) should I try to go back and find out if "optimizing" was completed, and finish it if it wasn't? How?
You would probably need to restore it to factory settings to start the process again

You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys (on a Mac hold down the Option and Command (⌥ and ⌘) keys). This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer. Then go to Preferences>iPod and check the "Manually manage songs and playlists" box. It won't update automatically in manual mode. You can also remove the tick from the box which says "Open iTunes when this iPod is attached".

  • IMac screen looks like a color negative

Just recently, my screen on my iMac G4 has changed. When the computer is booted up, everything is black & white, but like a negative (what's supposed to be black is white and what's supposed to be white is black). If I go into the display settings, it's set on 256 colors. If I change it to millions, then the screen just changes to what looks like a color negative (same with black & white, but blues are orange, greens are purple, and so on). And if I reboot, it starts all over again. So far nothing else seems to be affected and all programs seem to work fine, just the colors are off.
I've look through all the settings and can't find anyway to change this and don't know what might have caused it. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello David and welcome to discussions,
    Try this...
Hold down, at the same time...
    Control Option 
    then hit 8
This also toggles the effect. It can also be found in system preferences > Universal access.
    Hope that helps some

  • Convert color negatives to positives

I am new to photoshop element 10.  I purchased for the purpose to process color negatives. ie convert negatives to positives.  I am copying the originals using my CamCorder to photograph the film.  I am not getting what I want using the "invert" process. I have taken the tutorial but it did not cover my subject. Some of my negatives are over 30 years old. Please help or direct me to where I can find my answers.
    Thank you
    George594

Not being the professional here and thus not knowing what I "can't" do, but rather just going ahead and playing with Elements 10 on my Mac, can on occasion be somewhat gratifying.
For anyone interested I will follow through on my above comment using the two sets of examples below, same procedure for both:
Using a homemade sunlight box and my little Panasonic Lumix Camera (sharp pics from 2 about inches away) I snapped the pictures of the color negatives and then I brought the now digitalized color negatives into Elements 10.
    Next I...
cropped the negative image to desired size.
Hit COMMAND I     (This inverts the image with a strong cyan color cast)
    then go to:
LAYER -> duplicate layer     (always a good habit to get into)
ENHANCE  ->  Auto Color Correction    ...or...   ->  Adjust Color  -> Remove Color Cast     ...or....  Adjust Color For Skin Tones   (or just play with it.. have fun with it..  see what can be done and what can't be done for real.)
and finally  ENHANCE  -> Adjust Lighting  ->  Brightness/Contrast  to your personal preference.
Then either save for the web to put onto a CD or DVD or print it out.     It may not professionally perfect, nor work as good as a $700 scanner, but it certainly works well enough for me....  Good luck to all.   bill

  • FME 2.5 and 3.0 are inverting colors

Feeding video via a Conexant chipset based capture card.  Tried via both Composite and Svideo, and the application is inverting colors.  For example, if I connect an old VCR, the basic blue screen that every VCR produces comes up blood red in FME.
I've then used the card in other vide applications (Dscaler, MCE) and it is fine.  It is not a hardware problem: same signal comes up perfectly in all other applications: just FME is screwy.
I am using 2.5 because 3.0 suddenly doesn't work with soundblaster audigy cards, but both show the same symptom of inverted colors.
Is there some hack somewhere to put a flag in the profile to have it invert?
    Help?

The same thing is happening to me. The colors are not exactly inverted, it's more like hue is shifted all the way down. Red becomes blue, green becomes yellowish etc. As with the original poster, the colors display properly in DScaler, Virtualdub or when I use the Justin.tv embedded encoder. It has to do with FME and it's happening both in the preview and when streaming live. But I really want to use FME, so I can use its functions with aspect ratio.
    Specs:
    Windows XP SP3
    Pinnacle PCTV Rave
NTSC S-video or Composite inputs with.
Is there some OS/media settings or some programs that affect just FME specifically and may cause this that I should check/reinstall/remove?

  • Macbook Pro very dim screen + inverted colors.

I picked up a 2006 Macbook Pro that was pretty beat up from a friend (probly dropped a few times.) The Macbook runs alright but I am having a few problems with the screen that I just can't seem to find an explanation for.
First, the screen is very dim. Not dark, as if the backlight was burned out, but dimmer than the lowest brightness setting on my newer Macbook. This is with the brightness set to the highest setting, it will get dimmer if I use keyboard key to adjust the brightness.
Also, the colors are inverted. Now I have triple checked the Universal Access settings and the colors are inverted when the setting is set for normal colors and the colors return to normal(although still dim) when the inverted colors option is selected.
As far as troubleshooting, I have hooked the computer up to an external monitor and it displays at the correct brightness and color settings. So, while the colors or normal on the external monitor they are inverted on the macbook.
I can provide pictures if needed, and can work my way around the inside of the macbook if need be. Any suggestions or ideas are greatly appreciated!

    Thanks for the response!
I tried resetting the PRAM like you listed but that had no effect. I bought a new LCD inverter for my macbook pro to see if that could possibly fix the brightness problem, but the problem still persisted.
The previous owner had mentioned something of a overheating problem. I noticed nothing melted/browned on the logic board and all the cables seemed to be fine. I reseated all the connections to the LCD screen and the computer still booted with the same problems. I have not noticed any excessive heat problems with the computer since I have had it.
Also note, when the computer begins to boot and displays a white screen with an apple, it is just as dim as when the computer is running. Leading me to believe it is a hardware problem(I have also reinstalled the OS recently).
Tilting the screen to different angles and putting pressure on different parts of the back of the LCD does not make any differences either.
    Thanks again for the input.
