Display is bleeding

My Macbook screen suddenly opened up with vertical lines down the left side....color lines and then a sort of bleeding if you will of black measuring about 2 " wide, and the horizontal lines across the top in purple and black creating a cut off of the screen of approx. 2 /2 ".... I am obviously able to use it after having minimized the screen. I have no idea what happeed. I did not drop it.

Contact Apple using www.apple.com/support/contact if you are in a country that supports it or call the appropriate phone number on this page. Alternatively carry the MacBook in to an Apple retail store or service provider to ask for an estimate.

  • Macbook pro retina display backlight bleed acceptable?

    My display is bleeding in the corners and in the top, do you think is acceptable or do you think I should go to apple to get it replace?
    Thanks for your reply

    I have the same rMBP model and had the same problem.
    Last week I went to an Apple premium service centre and in two days they replaced an entire new screen to my rMBP. My rMBP is under apple limited warranty so I didn't need to pay nothing. But the salesman said if I wasn't covered by warranty I'd have to pay at least 1 thousand dollars to fix it. So, if you're still under warranty, go for it.

  • Mini display color bleeds

    New mac mini with Mountain lion shows color bleeding on display - that is, text which should be black and white shows random colors on some letters. Same monitor used with older mini was fine.  Could it be the graphics card? or the hdmi to hdmi connector?? Older mini used hdmi to vga adapter.

    Create a new user, log out your current user and log in as the new. It colors are displayed correctly, then I guess you could go into the other user's library and delete the offending file.
    Moral of the story: To clean your keyboard, do disconect it first... ;-)

  • Detect displays seems to have quit working? The secondary monitor is bleeding into the MacBook Pro monitor. How can I fix this?

    I am using a MacBook Pro 2009, Snow Leopard (OSX 10.6.8). All of a sudden last night after a long day of work, my monitor resolution changed without warning and the secondary monitor display started bleeding into my laptop monitor. When I go to detect displays, it doesn't fix the problem. It looks like I need to switch to a larger display setting and the largest setting has disappeared.(The display seems to default to this setting where my screen bleeds into the laptop monitor.) When this started happening last night, I immediately shutdown and restarted to see if this would fix the problem. So far, it's still not looking too good.
    I also tried shutting the laptop and using the external monitor only. When I do this, the monitor freaks out and keeps flashing on long enough for me to input a password. Then it flashes off, the computer and dipslay goes to sleep and I have to re enter my password to exit sleep mode and the process starts all over again.
    Here are screen shots of the two monitors side by side:
    http://danisco.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/monitors.png
    (Notice the weird overlap - it's not keeping me from working, but it's super annoying!)
    Any ideas on how I can try and fix this? OR do I need to get help from Apple directly. Thank you in advance for any suggestions on this!

    Okay - this issue seems to have resolved on it's own. Yea!
    I did find a thread that suggested resetting the PRAM/NVRAM so I did this, restored the external monitor to factory settings and went into Disk Utility and repaired disk permissions and verified disk permissions.
    Here is a link to reset the PRAM/NVRAM: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
    These things may have helped resolve this issue. I can't tell what worked because it was hours after I did all these things that my monitor and computer decided they liked each other again. If you have a similar issue, maybe these steps will help you resolve your problem too.
    Hope this is helpful!

  • When screen goes black,It's blurry behind at both ends and also a line behind the screen?

    when my scrren goes black,behind it on both sides is blurry and also a line going through it?

    You may be seeing some light leakage from the backlit display; some bleeding is likely normal if not too intense.  A line going through it would seem to be faulty pixels or a screen fault and is not normal.  If the device is covered by your warranty, I would take it to an Apple Retail Store or Apple Reseller to have them look at it in case you should have the display replaced for free.  You could also call Apple to document that you feel you have a serious display problem (the line).

  • Hard swipe text frame?

    I was browsing Russian GQ and they have managed to build a page with a hard swipe, while keeping a static frame with an image at the top.
    http://i.imgur.com/vSQ5oM2.jpg
    Only the text moves on a hard-swipe. I was wondering if this is possible in DPS? We would love to use this feature in our magazine, but have had no luck figuring it out on our own.

    ha ha, do you really want to know how they pulled this off?
    they make clever use of a how articles are loaded and displayed in the viewer.
    When you see an article on your screen, the article next to it is already loaded into the iPad's memory and waits off screen to get pulled into view. There's a bug with bleeding objects: When the next page containts interactivity (like a slideshow) that is sticking out of the page, the viewer does not crop the article and displays the bleeding object on the article prior to it (the one you are looking at right now).
    It's hard to explain. It only works with objects bleeding out to the left. Here's a video of GQ russia that shows how this works and you can also see when it get's loaded. You can also see why it only works best if the next article only has one page.

  • JDialog on top of full screen JFrame disappears

    I have a problem with a JDialog on top of a full screen JFrame, namely the JDialog kind of disappears when displayed (it bleeds through). I use JRE 1.6.0_03 on Windows. This does not happen under the same version on Linux. I'm attaching the code below.
    Test.java:
    import java.awt.GraphicsDevice;
    import java.awt.GraphicsEnvironment;
    import java.awt.event.ActionEvent;
    import java.awt.event.ActionListener;
    import javax.swing.JButton;
    import javax.swing.JFrame;
    import javax.swing.SwingUtilities;
    public class Test extends JFrame {
         public Test() {
              final Test frame = this;
              setDefaultCloseOperation(EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
              JButton button = new JButton("Open dialog");
              button.addActionListener(new ActionListener() {
                   public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent arg0) {
                        new TestDialog(frame);
              add(button);
              if (!isDisplayable()) {
                   setUndecorated(true);
              pack();
              setVisible(true);
         private static void createAndShowGui() {
              GraphicsDevice gd = GraphicsEnvironment.getLocalGraphicsEnvironment().getDefaultScreenDevice();
              gd.setFullScreenWindow(new Test());
         public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception {
              SwingUtilities.invokeLater(new Runnable() {
                   public void run() {
                        createAndShowGui();
    }And TestDialog.java:
    import javax.swing.JDialog;
    import javax.swing.JFrame;
    import javax.swing.JTextField;
    public class TestDialog extends JDialog {
         public TestDialog(JFrame frame) {
              super(frame);
              add(new JTextField("test"));
              setModal(true);
              pack();
              setVisible(true);
    }Any ideas why this is happening and how can I solve it? Thanks.

    I dont know if it works for you but, changing the createAndShowGui function
    (and so changing the way we make it fullscreen) as:
    private static void createAndShowGui() {
    Dimension screenSize = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().getScreenSize();
    Test testFrame = new Test();
    testFrame .setBounds(0,0,screenSize.width, screenSize.height);
    }worked for me.
    (java.awt.Dimension and java.awt.Toolkit must be imported for this by the way.)
    I tried also decreasing the hardware acceleration and it worked, too.

  • 17" MBP Display - TN or IPS? - Light Bleed?

    I've had a 15-inch Unibody MBP since December and am not thrilled with the display. It apparently uses twisted neumatic (TN) technology, as it has a very narrow viewing angle. And as has been described in other posts, many individual displays have a problem with light bleeding around the perimeter.
    I'd like to know how the new 17-inch MBP compares. I know it has a greater gamut. But does the viewing angle suggest it uses TN, IPS (In-Plane Switching), or some other technology? And have any individual displays exhibited the same kind of light bleeding that has plagued the 15-inch models?

    EWW: Thanks for elaborating. (Your full message isn't displaying, but I received it in the email notification. Don't know what happened to it.)
    Your point is well taken, but after talking to an Apple rep, and then noting the number of posts from people who got multiple replacements with the same problem, it seems an uncomfortable proportion of 15" MBPs recently shipped are in this condition, to some degree. And for myself, far from the nearest Apple service, repair or replacement is lengthy and inconvenient.
    I fully intend to have the problem corrected. But there's no hurry.

  • CS3: Is there a way to save work as a PDF with crop, bleed, & cut marks displayed?

    I dont want to print it but just want to save the artwork and email it to someone so that they can see where to cut and the bleed areas are located?
    Is this possible with PHotoshop CS3?

    I gather you are talking bout Pages 5 but haven't said:

    But this may not apply when converted to Word

  • Light Bleed, Stuck Pixels, Small Hair Behind Display Glass

    Today I received a new 15 inch MBP as offered as a replacement due to warrantee issues on my previous machine. The first thing I noticed after booting the new machine was significant light leakage coming from the bottom of the display as well as multiple dead pixels (black in color) and some dirt or hairs stuck behind the displays glass. Will I be able to get this new machine swapped just as if it was a new machine? I know I have a brand new warrantee. I emailed the customer care agent I was in contact with but I'm sure I wont hear back till tomorrow. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

    hello,
    i am aware of cases where apple has replaced computers for things like dust/dirt behind the screen as well as dead pixels and light leaks. the basic thing with getting a machine replaced for these reasons is that it effects basic use of the machine as per the DOA section of the agreement (on the apple site). i think in this case you can say that it effects your basic use of the machine because there are three issue that prevent you from seeing your display clearly.
    you could also request a replacement for customer satisfaction reasons if they do not agree that it is DOA and just say that you are not happy with the quality of the unit and that your other unit also had issues.
    in order to qualify for a DOA you must report it to apple within 30 days of getting it, so i would call right away and request a replacement.
    regards,

  • Connecting an Xbox using the DVI to Video adapter to a Display

    I have a second display (Vision 17'' TFT LCD Display) and I love using it with my Power Book using the DVI out. I also have a PC that shares this display through a VGA input port also on the display. Anyways, I want to use the display for my Xbox which has the three component cables. To do this, I was planning on using the "Apple DVI to Video Adapter" but Is this possible? I know it works if the signal is going out the DVI port to an external display but does it work in reverse? In theory I would have the Yellow video cable going to the adapter and the two audio cables going to a "Y" stereo mini cable into the audio in port on the monitor. Possible? Other ideas? Thanks.
    -Daniel

    no, it won't work. the adapter does not transcode any video signal, it simply connects the appropriate breakout to the analog lines that are already present on the Mac's DVI output, as per the DVI-* spec. unfortunately, it will not work in reverse.
    someone at Microsoft has claimed that the 360 does support HDMI and DVI, but the cable is simply not available yet. I find this comment somewhat suspicious, because the demand IS there already, and there is a HUGE base of people waiting for this.
    MS does support VGA output now, so you could use a 2x1 VGA switcher to share the VGA input between the PC and 360. I would also get a KVM that supports audio. there are lots of options out there and they do not cost too much money. Y'ing the input on audio is not a great idea, because depending upon the impedence of the ins/outs, you might get a gain/distortion/bleed issue.

  • Smudge on display

    Hello everbody, i've encountered a quite annoying problem with my notebook display. It seems to have developed some kind of a "digital" stain i can't really get my finger on, having already searched the forum about similar issues, and none have really resembled mine. It is a smudge that is only visible on dark backgrounds and is persistent on all possible levels of backlight. I have a y50-70 with a UHD IPS display. It seems to have generated itself overnight, as i don't lend it to anybody and the display never suffered any kind of impact. The smudge looks as if some kind of very faded mould is trapped between the layers of the screen, that is my best attempt to describe its appearance. It basically looks like a tiny dispersed cloud about 15×10 mm in dimension. Probably backlight bleed in a specific pattern. It's definetely not a stain, as i tried to wipe it off gently with a screen cloth already.Two questions are at hand:-what is that weird smudge-am i going to have to face myself with a screen replacement-is this maybe just a typical Lenovo issue (i'm a Lenovo virgin so i don't really know about these things)Please, if somebody knows the answer to all this, the stain is really annoying, and i'm not really sure if warranty can cover for this, how can i even convince them that I didn't actually bang the display or something? Thank you to anybody willing to address me

    i should also add that, if i press on the display, even gently, the smudge fades a bit.

  • Yoga 2 Pro - Light bleed on screen - is this acceptable / normal for this screen?

    Hi all,
    I wonder if someone could give me some advice as to whether the light bleed I'm experiencing on my Yoga 2 Pro is 'acceptable'. It doesn't bother me in normal day to day tasks like office work, email, web browsing but it's pretty distracting when watching videos in a dark / dim room, particularly where the video itself contains dark scenes or letterboxing.
    I've done a bit of searching on the web it seems that black light bleed is a pretty common issue with these types of displays.
    The following photos were taken on a DSLR in a totally dark room whilst running a video of complete black on youtube:
    Brightness 100% - overexposed a bit in camera to show main areas of light bleed. The lower right corner is the most severe. Light bleed is also quite prevalent along the bottom of the screen.
    Link to image 1
    Brightness 70-80% - exposed to represent as closely as possible what i see when watching the black video in a dark room.
    Link to image 2
    Brightness at 50%
    Link to image 3
    Would this light bleed warrant a return? I bought this from John Lewis in the UK and they have an excellent returns policy. I do love the laptop but the light bleed is pretty annoying. I've seen some images of other peoples light bleed and I worry that if I was to get this replaced I may end up with one with much worse light bleed than what I currently have.
    Any thoughts and advice would be most appreciated.
    Cheers.
    Moderator note: large image(s) converted to link(s):  About Posting Pictures In The Forums

    Ok, I think I have identified the source of the light bleed from the top right corner.  It seems that whatever they use to glue the panel down to the backing has loosened.  If I press down on the top left corner of the screen it is rock solid.  If I press down on the top right side where the light bleed is it flexes downward.  When I push down on the border the light bleed disappears.
    So it would appear I don't have a panel problem, I have a glue problem.  Bummer.  Will contact Lenovo today.  Hopefully getting this fixed won't involve sending my Y2P into some shop for 3 weeks.
    The light bleed sucks but what concerns me more is that the panel's integrity seems to be failing and could get worse.  I hope Lenovo has a local shop that can take a look at this.
