Display issue - Photoshop useless with Dell XPS15

Hi I ve recent'y bought a Dell XPS15 designed for graphism but Photoshop display is too small(useless). It's fine with illustrator and indesign. Any solution? i ve seen I'm not the only one like that. Thanks a lot for your help.

Trevor.Dennis wrote:
You've bought a 15 inch notebook with a 3200 x 1800 display, and stuff looks small on it?   What on earth did you expect?
That's not the point, Trevor, and a somewhat belittling comment to make: the OP obviously meant that Photoshop's GUI is tiny looking on a retina screen.
If you happen to be using Photoshop CC, you can got to Preferences > Experimental features and check Scale UI 200%...  What that will do is turn your 3200 x 1800 display into a 1600 x 900 display.  I hope you can see the irony in that.
That is an untrue and a ridiculous statement: the 200% patch scales up the GUI elements, and certainly DOES NOT decrease her retina display resolution to a 1600 x 900 one. The guides, images, pixels, and so on still display at 3200x1800px.
As a matter of fact, a couple of users working on retina screens in this forum have already complained about the guides being too thin for comfort, since the 200% patch (yes, it is a patch, and not a real solution) only takes GUI elements into account.
Retina screens are common place technology, and have been for a while now. Photoshop is still having issues with Retina screens on Windows, and it ought to have been fixed by now after years of complaints by users. That is the issue at hand here - not the supposedly unwise (in your opinion) decision to purchase a laptop with a retina screen.
And regarding CS6: I find it ridiculous that Adobe continues to sell CS6 without a disclaimer or warning that some applications' GUIs are incompatible with retina screens on Windows. Warn potential customers, fix it, or stop selling it. Since Adobe made it quite abundantly clear they have no intention to fix this issue in CS6, at the very least a warning in the system requirements ought to be issued about retina screen incompatibilities.

  • Display issues in XP with Firefox

I just installed Firefox browser to an old XP machine. I am having display issues: sideways lines and "double vision" even on the home page. I know I have an old video card. That has caused sideways lines in videos before. This is a computer my husband uses and loves! I know its a dinosaur. Besides videos in kids programs, I never have had any display problems just browsing the web. And I can watch YouTube videos just fine in my other browsers.

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.
*Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.

If there are problems with Flash then you can check for problems with current Shockwave Flash plugin versions and try this:
*disable protected mode in the Flash plugin (Flash 11.3+ on Windows Vista and later)
*disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

  • MBP 2011 Does Not Enter Display Sleep Over DVI with Dell U2410

    Hi, 15" 2011 MacbookPro (8,2) running 10.7.2 Lion
Using the Apple Mini DisplayPort-to-DVI adapter, the Dell U2410 does not enter Display sleep in Energy Saver mode. Instead, the backlight remains on.
If I manually put the MBP to Sleep, the U2410 successfully enters Display sleep.
When using a MonoPrice Mini DisplayPort-to-DisplayPort cable, the monitor successfully enters Display Sleep. However, the picture signal (no matter what) is dispalyed in YPbPr rather than RGB for some reason. So this thread is in fact 2 problems.
    Any ideas / help?

My late 2007 white MacBook (3,1) running 10.6.8 connected via MiniDVI-to-DVI successfully puts the U2410 to sleep.
So I'm thinking this may be an issue with the MDP/Thunderbolt port on the new 2011 MBP's?

  • Display issue in car with 3.1

Prior to upgrading to 3.1, when I used my iPhone in the car to play music, I noticed the following (the iPhone is connected to a Kensington LiquidAux, which provides charging and an output to to aux-in jack in the car):
    - when I start playing music, the display starts off at full brightness
    - after about a minute, the display dims considerably, but does not go into sleep mode (i.e. where it says slide to unlock) and can be brightened just by touching the screen
-each time a new song starts, the display brightens for about 15-20 seconds automatically (a really nice feature, because it allows me to see the song info)
However, since upgrading to 3.1 yesterday, I noticed that the screen does not brighten up with each song change like it did before. It's not a huge deal, but I wanted to see if this was the same for other people or if there was some setting I inadvertently changed during the upgrade.
    Thanks.

I know that the iPhone won't fully sleep when plugged in. That's not what I was asking about. What I noticed was that prior to 3.1, the screen would "wake up" with each new song, so that (without touching the screen) it would be at full brightness for 15-20 seconds at the beginning of each new song, then it would dim again until the beginning of the next song.
This behavior seems to have changed in 3.1. The screen no longer brightens at the start of each song.
    Can anyone else confirm this?
Does anyone know how to restore the previous behavior? Is there some setting that I need to change?

  • Display issue with vertical windows start menu and dual screen

    Hello everyone
I never reported it and I didn't find any information on google or mozilla support about this so here it is :
I am on windows 7 and I set up my windows start menu vertically. I also have 2 screens. These both points are important. If I put the start menu horizontally I do not have the issue anymore, and If I turn off one screen to have the display only on one screen, I do not have the issue anymore, which is a rare setup I guess so it could explain why this bug has never been detected.
    HERE IS THE ISSUE
I have display issues on website with a big width, even the default add-ons Manager firefox page doesn't display correctly. Here is a screen shot:
    http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/368172bugFirefoxDisplay.png
So as you can see the disable and remove button on the right are not displayed, and at the bottom there isn't any scroll bar to scroll ! So I have no way to display the information on the right of the page, and it happens on a lot of other website (gmail, etc)
It is not such a big issue because my start menu is on my left screen and I can move firefox on the right screen to have a correct display.
I still think this is worth reporting this bug. I hope it is clear, feel free to ask questions if you didn't understand.

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox (you need to close and restart Firefox).

  • Dell Studio Laptop with Intel Core i5 S15Z with Intel Wireless Display issues (WIDI) (pkg deal)

i bought this laptop in Jan,2010 . Due to some h/w issue BB replace it   in April. When i tested my wireless display capability using the  the Intel Wireless Display  option i got a message "Intel My Wifi Technology not enabled. Restart the computer and try again." i have restarted my laptop several times. Also in the icon tray when i keep the mouse pointer on top of Intel My Wifi Technology it gives a message "Adapter not found". Please help.
I took the laptop to Geek squad in BB and they told me that they need to put the laptop to factory defualt and troubleshoot the issue that why the wireless adapter is not enabled.
Any suggestion as i don't want to go through this madness of backing up the data and restoring again. This will be my 3rd time . Any other alternatives .
Anybody using the above system with Netgear push2tv . Can you share the output of device manager as i like to see what wireless device you are seeing  as i am suspecting this laptop may not have one but then sice i see the s/w available i am confused ?

Almost every time we see a WIDI display issue, it is because the user is trying to use it too far away from the t.v.. It has a very short distance and when out of range, shows an adapter not found error. Playing with it, we found that over 15 ft it adapter wouldn't connect at all, and the closer the better as far as connectivity.

  • Photoshop CC display issues

    Hello
I am new to Photoshop CC and I'm having some teething issues.
For many years now I have been using CS3 and have just upgraded to Photoshop CC.
The issues I am having are mainly display issues.  When looking for a file in CS3, I use to be able to see a small picture of the file when selecting a psd file....now in CC I can't see anything, even with the preview on  (see attachment so you understand what I am meaning - first file is the OLD CS3 view and second file is the new CC view
Another issue is, I can't see the extensions in CC.....like: .jpg or .psd etc. How do I change that ??
Can anyone help with my issues ??
    Cheers
    pwhinder

Do you have CC on the same computer as you used for CS3?  What you are showing us is related to your operating system rather than Adobe.  There are various workarounds to show proper thumbnails for PSD files, but we need to know what your operating system is before advising.
An alternative would be to use Bridge, which has thumbnails for all image formats, along with lots of other useful search and display filters.
The file extension is also a function of your operating system.  If you are using Windows, go into Folder options, click on the View tab, and uncheck 'Hide extensions for known file types'
    Good luck

  • Screen display issue with InDesign CS4 (Windows)

I just upgraded from CS2 to CS4. I can open and use InDesign with no problems, until I try to switch to another application. Then, when I try to go back to InDesign, all I can see is the portion of the bar at the top of the screen that shows the link to Bridge, the view options and a bit of the outline of a palette or two. I have a two monitor setup. Most of the palettes are on the auxillary monitor and they show up just fine. The main display is where I'm having the issue. I can toggle in and out of Photoshop with no display issues. I haven't tried working with anything else from the CS4 package besides InD and Photoshop. This was not an issue with any CS2 product (Dreamweaver, Fireworks, InDesign, Photoshop, Flash). Nor has it been an issue with any of the other software I am running (so far).
When the display vanishes, I can see the "data" from the program I was trying to toggle out of. For example, if I try to toggle between this page and InD right now, I can see most of this page except for the part of the page obscured by the outline of the control palette (that one reminiscent of pagemaker) and the little bits at the top. I can't see the project I'm working on. I can't see the File/Edit/etc. bar at the top of the page. A Control/Shift/Save will lock up the program completely. Then, I see the "save as" menu box (in addition to the browser screen around it) but the program is locked up. I can close everything on the computer and reboot and open InDesign to resume work--that is until I need to do something like edit a photo to drop into a layout. Then the issue occurs all over again.
Windows machine; XP Pro, service pack 3 build 2600; NVidea GeForce 9600 GT graphics card.

Bob, thanks for the info about the 6.0.2 patch. I'll try grabbing that today. This morning, on the first boot, I can't even see the program when I open it--just the snip of the command palette and part of the very top bar. Very irritating.
Peter, I have tried maximizing, closing, reopening, etc. everything else I can think of. Same issue. I finally just bit the bullet and went back to CS2, rebuilding the current project so I can get the work done by deadline. I'll look for new video drivers this afternoon after I get back on track timewise on this newsletter. Weird that this display issue should just affect the one Adobe program though, and not the others if it is a video driver problem. I didn't do a lot of work in Dreamweaver--just enough to see if it displayed the same weird behaviour. Nope. Nor does Photoshop. Nor does Bridge. Nor does Acrobat. nor does any other software on the machine.

  • I have a display issue with sliders - XP 64/CS4

Has anyone else come across this issue using brush controls
etc. sliders don't show up, but appear to be "working" in that
moving the mouse where the slider should be controls the brush?
Also, after a while this manifests further with a blank/white
    screen?
The only way to work around this is to disable visual themes
in the properties. Anyone know if this is program error or display
issue? I have set AllowOlderGPU etc. for Photoshop and updated
nVidia drivers for Quadro FX4500 to latest version. (I have
verified that every other program working within CS4 design premium
    is working properly/as expected.)
Edited today 11/6/2008 : Upon closing application, received
error box with "An internal error occurred" displayed twice,
followed by another error box "Fireworks unexpected exception
    c0000096"
    Thanks.

Hi chick.aday, this seems to be expected, however the Go Daddy support may also have some good advice how to change the view.

  • Display Issues with mini (Mid 2010) and LG L246WP

I recently purchased a new mini (Mid 2010 base model) and planned to use it with my 24" LG L246WP monitor, which is about 3 years old. The monitor has VGA, component, and HDMI inputs.
I used an HDMI-to-HDMI cable to connect the mini directly to the monitor, and the output is completely messed up. The mini recognized the monitor (titling the System Preferences > Display dialog with 'L246WP') and set it to the monitor's native resolution of 1920x1200, but on the monitor the image is cropped to what looks like a 4:3 aspect ratio and with part of the image shifted up and left so I cannot view the top menu bar or the left hand side of the desktop. The monitor's on-screen display shows 1080p in this mode.
The Display dialog also gives me an option for 1080p. I can select this and use the Underscan slider to resize the desktop output to fit on the screen, but it is still shifted left and must be resized smaller than the available display space (plus the total image is only 1080 pixels, not using the monitor's full native screen). In this mode, 1080p also shows on the monitor's on-screen display.
I tried 1024x768 to see if I could get a properly-positioned image, but the desktop was shifted just like in the 1920x1200 case and the monitor's on-screen display status still reported 1080p.
The monitor has a menu setting under an HDMI heading with "Video" and "PC" options, but changing this selection does not make a difference.
Since the monitor came out before HDMI was as widespread as it is today, it came with a DVI-to-HDMI cable, so I also tried using that cable with the HDMI-to-DVI adapter that came with the mini, but this did not make a difference either.
To prove it wasn't the HDMI cable, I connected the mini to my Samsung 6300 series 40" LED HDTV and with some tweaking of the Underscan slider the displayed image filled the screen perfectly.
I've searched the Internet and various forum threads (i.e. http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1167222&page=63) seem to indicate this monitor can send a corrupted EDID that causes issues, especially with nVidia graphics drivers. On Windows you can use registry or driver hacks to override the EDID with the correct values, but on OS X this doesn't seem possible (I was hoping for a Terminal one-liner but it seems this doesn't exist). I have seen some mentions of the shareware SwitchResX (http://www.madrau.com), which looks like it gives you the option to override resolution settings, but I haven't tried this yet.
It also appears to me that the monitor is always interpreting the signal (or the mini is always sending the signal) as 1080p, even if I've set 1920x1200 in the Display dialog. I don't know if this is a defect in the monitor where it always assumes the HDMI input is a 1080p source (previous I used it with an Xbox 360 with no issues but that was 1080p HDMI), or if is a bug in the graphics drivers (or at least a lack of flexibility / miscommunication to the user trying to handle a corrupt EDID).
I asked my local Genius Bar for advice today (without bringing any hardware in) but was not told anything I didn't already know.
I'm trying to determine the best way to work through this issue. *My questions are:*
Would it make any difference if I used a Mini DisplayPort-to-DVI adapter (and then my DVI-to-HDMI cable to the monitor's HDMI input)?
What about a Mini DisplayPort-to-VGA adapter? In the past I used a 12" Powerbook (via a mini-DVI-to-VGA adapter) with this monitor and had no display issues like this, but I'd prefer to stick with a digital connection on my brand new mini.
Is SwitchResX the only practical way in OS X to override a corrupt EDID and force the mini to output a certain resolution?
Besides the various adapters and SwitchResX, is there anything else I should try before buying a new monitor?

    Hello EPWilson4984.
I have been experiencing the same issues you described. Connecting my brand new Mac Mini to my Westinghouse 24”monitor (L2410NM,  1920x1200 pixel resolution) produces a very fuzzy and washed out image quality. The Mac recognizes the monitor and applies the right resolution (1920x1200), but it looks just awful. The EDID info is definitely not right.
Now, I tried your suggestion (DVI-to-HDMI), and similar suggestions from other threads, but nothing works. Nothing seems to work at all.
The main input for the monitor is HDMI, so whatever cable I use, in the end always has to connect to the monitor via HDMI. I tried all these combinations with zero success:
Mac mini -> HDMI cable -> monitor (result: fuzzy and blurry image)
Mac mini -> displayport –HDMI adapter-> HDMI cable -> monitor (result: fuzzy and blurry image)
Mac mini  -> displayport –DVI adapter-> DVI-to-HDMI cable -> monitor (result: it gives me a blank screen, no image at all)
I’m running out of options. Don’t know what to do. The 24” monitor produces beautiful, crisp images when hooked to my Windows 7 PC. It looks horrible when connected to my brand new Mac Mini.
Any alternatives you may have come across? Please let me know, thank you.

  • Retina Macbook Pro with Safari display issues

Is anyone having crazy display issues with Safari on their rMBP? I'm noticing some wierd glitching going on. For instance, as I type this, it doesn't show the correct characters consistently. Sometimes when I'm in Gmail, entire portions of the interface are missing unless I move the cursor over them. Some pages don't load at all and I have to refresh. Other times I'll load a page, click a link, and then hit back to go to the previous page and it's empty.
I'm not experiencing this in third party applications like MS Office, or Chrome, or other parts of Mountain Lion (though I do suffer from the same jerky UI transitions that everyone else has, but that's a different story). Anyone else in my boat? Suggestions?

Nevermind, looks like other people have the same issues: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4145775?start=0&tstart=0

    Thanks!

Nutshell is to download and install the 64-bit version of MySQL, then try again. If you're still stuck try force re-installing the DBD modules, e.g. cpan -fi DBD::mysql (The perl installed in 10.6.x is 64-bit and doesn't like playing with the 32-bit database.)
