Display LCD on TV

Is there a way to display more than a slideshow from the iPod photos onto a TV screen or larger monitor? I want to be able to view my menu & music library, etc.

Hi HS29
Your in the right place, but if you use the Lords name in vane then He won't help you!
First off if you want to run each display at it's native resolution you'll have to turn *Mirroring Off* and run in *Extended Desktop* mode. Then in the iMac display preference panel select the Arrangement tab and drag the menu bar to which ever display you like. There is no way to turn off the iMac's display, but if you experiment with the view options DVD player, Quick Time and Front Row will dim the unused display.

  • A1081 Cinema Display LCD Monitor compatibility

I am about to buy a reconditioned A1081 Cinema Display LCD Monitor 20"? But i need to know if it will work with my MacBook Pro 10.5.8 and my ipad 2? As i am buying it to use at an exhibition. iIf so what adaptor will i need to hook both of these up? Thank you in advance.

Are you sure the monitor is set to receive input over the VGA input? Have you tried the DVI input on the monitor? You may have better luck with DVI.

  • Connecting 15" studio display LCD to MacPro

Do I need the DVI to ADC adapter to connect my "old" 15" Studio Display (LCD) to the MacPro?
Just bought the MacPro, upgrading from my G4 Powermac circa 2001. No one at the Apple Store mentioned needing an adapter even though I said I had an older display from 6 years ago. I am not happy to say the least. Partly went for the MacPro because I had this display, though small by current standards. Now another $100 I did not expect.
Any recommendations for displays...at a smaller price? Maybe I should have gone with an iMac....
    Thanks.

Unfortunately hardly anyone stops to think that some older Apple displays used the ADC adapter. I bet half of the staff don't even know what an ADC connector is. Anyway, yes you will need the ADC to DVI adapter unless you can already convert your video signal to VGA. In that case you can then use the includes VGA to DVI adapter that was included with your Mac Pro.

You can try Dell. They often have specials which results in very cheap displays.
Maybe I should have gone with an iMac
My parents just bought iMacs (24" with 2.33GHz upgrades) and while they're very nice they can't come close to the performance of the Mac Pro, especially if you implement RAID 0. So while you might be a bit deflated over this just remember that you did buy a far better performing system.

  • Apple Studion Display LCD 15" dying?

My Apple Studio Display (LCD 15", purchased 2000) visual display is intermittently shutting off. Audio remains functional, and I can still type while the display is absent and when it comes back what I typed (ie, on a word doc) is there. The screen saver does not come on during the loss of visual display - the screen just goes black. When I move the mouse around or hit the keyboard repeatedly, the visual will come back. There are not problems with the display when it is visualized. Here's what i've tried so far:
    1. All connections are secure on the ADC cable.
    2. Tried restarting computer several times - no avail
    3. Checked the display settings in system prefs - energy saver is @ 15min.
I'm wondering if the problem is the monitor or something with the computer. I read somewhere in discussions that PRAM batteries can be a problem (mine has never been changed and I don't know how to reset).
Any suggestions would be appreciated. I really hope to continue to use my monitor!!

In order to do this you need to use an adapter to go from DVI to ADC. This can be found here http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=187 2D402&nplm=M8661LL/B

I'm afraid that you're not going to like what I'm about to write...
Your T40 has most likely become a victim of the infamous GPU failure that T4x/R5x with ATi graphics are infamous for, where the video card starts detaching itself from the motherboard as a result of  heating/cooling cycles and/or physical stress on the chassis.
Re-flowing/re-balling the solder in the GPU area or motherboard replecement are your only choices.
Good luck and let us know.

  • How much better are ACDs than older Studio Display LCDs?

I have a pretty old 17" Apple Studio Display LCD. I'm thinking of upgrading to a new ACD 20" or 23". Aside from the increase in size, is there a significant difference in the quality of the ACDs vs. the older Studio Displays like the one I have?

    Badlydrawnboy wrote:
Wow. So you're saying the quality of my 17" Studio Display is actually equal to or higher than the quality of the newer ACDs? If that's true, I guess the only reason to get a new display would be for the larger viewing area.
Elsewhere in another forum someone suggested that the ACDs were higher quality, but he didn't give any details.
No, I think BSteely is only specifically talking about 17" screens. Not all screens. The 17" monitors have not improved much since when you bought your older screen, because 17" monitors are now seen as a low end point in the market. Generally, people only buy a 17" screen if they have very little money to spend, or if they just need a very basic monitor for an office, etc. So even modern 17" monitors aren't especially good. The same goes for many other sizes too, because companies seem to be focusing on mass producing cheaper monitors with cheaper components, but there are exeptions. With modern screens, there are always SOME screens that are high quality. Most of the DELL screens, and the Apple Cinema Display's for example, use the best panels available today. They aren't perfect, but monitors that use the best panels on the market (IPS/S-IPS/AS-IPS), have good colours, good brightness and contrast, fairly decent speed, and are generally pretty good. But you have to specifically look out for screens like that, because mostly, modern monitors are using cheap TN panels which aren't that good.

  • No signal to external Display/LCD-TV

I own a Macbook Air 13" (Late 2010) and used to connect it via Mini-Display-Port to HDMI-Cable to my LG 37" LCD TV. While on Snow Leopard everything worked fine. Now I upgraded to Lion and I am not able to get a signal to my TV. The MacBook Air lists my TV in the display settings but I cannot get a signal to my TV. I tried ever resolution and setup but it does not work. I also tried to delete the com.apple.windowserver.plist and resetting PRAM, nothing worked. Can anybody help me with this? Greetings from Germany.

Did you do anything to make it work? Mine used to work but when I tried it a different TV the adapter and TV weren't recnized by the the MacAir?

  • The dock indicator lights look fairly dim on the MBA display, but bright on external displays (LCD TVs for example). Any fixes?

    (MacBook Air mid-2012)
As stated in the title, I've noticed the indicator lights on the dock which represent an open/running application looking fairly dim as opposed to the previous dock design in Lion. After a little look around on the internet, there are some others who are having a similar issue, but I've noticed that upon connecting the laptop to external displays (monitors and LCD TVs), they look extremely bright and noticeable on that particular screen.

https://discussions.apple.com/message/19126554#19126554 This thread appears to address the same issue, yet its odd how the dock "raises" if connected to an external display in my case. I'm considering locating the image files used to display the dock indicators and photoshopping them to be brighter.

  • Keep Mac desktop on primary display (LCD) and Present on External?

Here's the question. Is there a way to keep my mac desktop on my primary display (the lcd on my MBP) while presenting to a projector? When I move the presentation to the external monitor and start the slide show, my LCD goes black. I know this is the "Presenter's Display." Is there a way to just have my mac desktop there instead? I'm using the newest version of Keynote.
    Thanks,
    Shawn

<<Is there a way to keep my mac desktop on my primary display ... while presenting to a projector?>>
If you mean your regular Mac desktop (and not the Keynote Presenter's Display) then the answer is no. While you are running Keynote, the two display options are as follows:
    1) in the Keynote Preferences/Slideshow menu you can assign the presentation to either your Primary display (the screen of your MBP) or a Secondary display (the projector or other monitor).
    2) In the Keynote Preferences / Presenter Display menu, there is a checkbox where you can assign the Presenter Information to the "alternate display" - i.e. the one that is NOT showing the presentation itself. If you do not check this box, the "alternate display" will be black, as you have discovered.
These are, at present, the only display options offered by Keynote.
If you would like to suggest a feature modification to Apple, you can do so at the Keynote Feedback forum: http://www.apple.com./feedback/keynote.html
I'm puzzled why you do not want to see the Presenter Information on your MBP while presenting on the projector. On my system I have checked ALL of the options for the Presenter Display so that when I give a presentation, I can know exactly what is coming-up next and when. In this way, I use the presentation itself as my "cue" sheet, rather than working from notes.
    Good luck.

  • MBP's antiglare display = LCD

This year in january I bought a new MBP with the new LED display. First thing I noticed then, was the huge difference in image quality and luminosity. Different colors though, but with the proper calibration seemed to be ok even for correcting photos. The downside of the LED for me was the highly reflective surface that killed my eyes in no time. I couldn't say it was entirely because of that, but my reading glasses went one number up in less than 6 months.
When that MBP suffered an unfortunate accident and became almost unusable I decided to by a new one. I looked up on the Apple's online store and decided to get the "Antiglare display" for an EXTRA $50. Honestly, I haven't seen a single word anywhere saying that "antiglare" actually means LCD.
So I got my new $2600 MBP just a couple of weeks ago. I must confess my jaw dropped when I saw the LCD. I figure now the extra $50 were for the labour....changing the LED with an LCD.... because the quality of the LCD is definitely lower than the LED.
As I am really ****** off about it, I wonder if there's anything I could do about it... I don't think I can return it because it has an optional 7200 rpm HDD... I remember since my first Mac that BTO Macs cannot be returned.
And I'm just curious how does this look and sound to everybody else. I wouldn't have bought it if I knew it came with an LCD.

So I would appreciate a more detailed explanation on the LED glossy vs LED-LCD technology.
As for now, my new LCD-like-LED display is not satisfying enough with the exception of the missing glare of course.
Thank you for the answer anyway.
Your MacBook does NOT have and LED display.
Both your glossy and your matte finish MacBooks have LED-backlit displays. In days past Apple laptops had CCFL-backlit displays. Now they are LED-backlit.
The displays are now, and always have been, Liquid Crystal Display technologies. The Apple laptop displays have never been Light Emitting Diode technology EXCEPT for the source of backlighting in the current LCD displays.
CCFL stands for cold cathode florescent lamp
LED stands for light emitting diode
Both the CCFL and the LED are used for one purpose in the Apple LCD and that is to provide a source of white light behind the liquid crystal elements.
The majority of home computer users as well as technology writers do not have any understanding of what LCD and LED mean let alone CCFL. They are clueless how the technologies even work. They, like you, think that a computer display is either LED or LCD.
Google around a bit for LCD and learn how liquid crystals are used to produce an image by virtue of blocking some light and passing some light. It is a very fascinating subject. Do the same for LED. Learn what an LED is and what is required to make a bunch of little tiny light sources produce an image. Both of these use the same principal as the CRT in that they all 3 provide little sources of colored light that shine into your eyes.
The CRT and the LED actually produce light that your eyes see. The LCD does not produce light but rather depends upon an external source of light to shine through the LCD elements (little colored windows) then on to your eyes.
It is very fascinating technology to me and seems well worth anyones time to read about it.

  • Display LCD Screen to protect eyes.

Are there any 15" screen for macbook pro lcd screen? to proect the screen as well as the eye from glare etc..

The software called Brightness Control can act as one when the display settings do not have sufficient gradient for certain sensitivities of eyesight.

  • Early 2009 24" iMac Haywire Display: LCD Panel or Logic Board?

    Hi,
My 24" display just developed severe vertical and horzontal lines, mouse trailing, color changing and flickering.  The problem begins as soon as the computer is turned on (even the Apple screen goes nuts).
When I plug in an external display, the external looks just fine.
This is one of the Nvidia GeForce 9400 chipsets, so there is no separate videocard board to replace - it is integrated onto the logic board.
It seems like it should be the display panel because the external monitor works fine, but these are complicated machines.
This is an iMac 9,1 Early 2009, Core2 2.66 Mhz machine.
    Thank you,
    Josh

Can you connect an external monitor and test? If the artifacts do not show on the external monitor, some component of the display is faulty but not the logic board. The dispay repair is not cheap but cheaper than replacing an LB
If the same artifacts show on both, well... it's the logic board.
AHT seldom picks up display faults.

  • Problem with my display/LCD curve 9320

Hey guys, I just bought my blackberry curve 9320 about four days ago, and I'm having problem with my display.
Last time I thought it is just because of the light sensor and auto brightness that makes my screen brighter, but recently I turned off the auto backlight and sometimes the screen get brighter, and when I press the screen, the screen dim to the default brightness.
Is it because of product defect? Should I claim my warranty?
Really need advice and explanation about this problem guys

Hi farlyx and welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums!
Have you checked for any software updates since purchasing your BlackBerry Curve 9320? If not, I would first recommend doing this.  You can plug your BlackBerry smartphone into a PC then go to www.blackberry.com/update to install it.
    Thanks.

  • LCD 20" Cinema Display Not Working on MBP

    Hi people!
Somehow, the Apple Cinema Display (LCD) of 20" isn't working when I plug it to the MBP (late 2011). The monitor remains black after pluging it. Sometimes is detected by the MBP, and sometimes it isn't. Quite random thing. Same hapens when I'm in Windows, through Bootcamp. The weird thing is that I've never had this problem before and it was like being each time more often that the monitor isn't detected. Nowadays, it seems that it won't work. However, the minidisplay port is okay, as well, the monitor.
I use the monitor for work, so this is delaying my work each time more. Please, I need a solution for this since my physical existence depends on this.
    Thanks,
    Ø3

    UPDATE:
When I plug the external monitor into the MBP, the MBP automatically switches to the discrete graphic card, but the external monitor keeps black and also, the mouse pointer doesn't move to the second monitor, like if it wasn't really detected, even if the MBP automatically switches to the discrete graphic card.
Please, I need help with this.
    Thanks,
    Ø3
