  • Does the computers DAC or the iPods DAC work when playing a song on iTunes?

    In other words:
Which devices DAC is being used when playing a song on iTunes?
    In other words:
When I connect an external DAC to my PC and play a song from my iPod on iTunes, which devices DAC is being used?

iTunes does not "play a song from your iPod", only from the content of the iTunes library.  Therefore, anything played in iTunes will make use of whatever audio processing components are in or attached to your PC.  The iPod's DAC is used only for audio output by the iPod via its headphone jack (or, in some configurations, via the USB cable - e.g., for some in-car setups).

  • Where are music files stored when playing a song stored in iTunes Match?

Where are music files stored when playing a song stored in iTunes Match? Instead of clicking the cloud icon and downloading the song, I simply double click the song and it starts playing. Later, I can quite iTunes, come back and not have to wait for the song to buffer. When I go to about on my computer I am told there is 11 gigabytes of music on my computer. Where are those files stored, do they clear themeselves over time, etc...

but then why does the FAQ state this:
Does iTunes Match stream or download songs?
On a computer, any songs stored in iCloud will stream over the air when played, though you can download them at any time by clicking the iCloud download button.
Do they mean a different computer than the one with the stored music files?  Would be nice if they specified what they mean

  • Itunes 10.5 crashes immediately when playing a song.

I've been struggling to get itunes to work after updating for over a week now. I was finally able to connect to the itunes store after using the "netsh winsock reset" command but still can't play music. It crashes immediately when I try to play any song in my music library. I have restarted the computer with only the basic programs running and that didn't help and have uninstalled and reinstalled all Apple programs and updated all audio drivers I can find! Any ideas or help would be appreciated! I'm running Widows Vista on a Dell Inspiron 1545.

    Hi Denis,
I managed to fix a similar issue on Mac OS X:
"I am running 10.5.8 on an iMac 27 with a 2.66GHz i5 processor and got the same side-effects after I moved up to iTunes 10.5. Th e problem also continued when I downgraded to 10.4.1 as well, straight afterwards. However, I managed to resolve it fairly quickly in this way:
Opened the  Activity Monitor, and looked at the processes taking most resources.
The one that leapt out at the top, if ordered by % CPU, was "ShockWave Flash (Chrome Plug-in Host)".
So, I closed down Chrome and noted that it was still there. Thus, I sent a force quit to it and waited for it to die. I then re-opened iTunes and the annoying stuttering had gone. I've now got Chrome and this plug-in open and it has not returned. I suspect the issue may frequently be caused by a plug-in like this causing resource contention, but I can't say for sure as I've only seen this once.
My advice would be to close down, one by one,  as many apps as you can and constantly review activity ordered by CPU in Activity Monitor. If you think you can safely quit the process then do so and retry iTunes. If you're not sure, then gracefully shutdown and look again. Bear in mind, the problem may be launching at startup. Before shutting down, review your Login Items in System Prefs->Accounts->"My Account"->Login Items. Remove anything you can live without. You can always add them back in. If you manage to spot conflicting software then you can look for a patch or upgrade, but at least be aware that it does not play well with iTunes and thus quickly fix your issue."
May be you can follow a similar process on Windows? I would target your suspicions towards Adobe and Google components :-) !!!
    Hope this helps.

  • My ipod crashed or skips when playing certain songs

Whenever I use itunes I can play all of my songs, however when I use my ipod nano 5th generation I am unable to play certain songs. When I try to play these songs my ipod either skips over the song or crashes. Both my ipod and itunes are up to date. I have tried doing a restore. I have tried taking off all the songs and reloading them (this just causes a different set of songs to become unplayable). I have also checked all my music files for corruption with software from CNET(they are all fine).
The most common response I've seen to problems similar to mine is this...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TA26488
    Nothing on that page works.
    Please help, Thanks.

It's hard to say what cause of error is in particular, without a bit of troubleshooting.  Where were these problem tracks downloaded from?
Have you tried all of the troubleshooting here?
Troubleshooting songs that skip on iP
Again, I"m not really all of this troubleshooting is worth it since as you stated the problem is only apparent on the older iPod Video, which would point to an issue with that device.  You could try and do a disk diagnostic on it to see if there is anything in particular that stands out there.  See this post from another forum member turingtest2 describing how to perform this test and what the numbers mean.

Apple doesn't have a trade in policy, but they do have a recyling program where you can bring your old iPod into be recycled for a 10% discoun towards the purchase of a new one.

  • 5th gen ipod video makes hard disk sounds when playing certain songs and lags then frrezes when trying to change

it makes a constant clicking noise like its stuck but plays the song fine till i try and change songs. it freezes, but the song still plays fine. any idea on what it could be? 30gb classic...

When the iPod starts to make non-music noises like clicking and stutters, it is a sign that some cluster of your hardisk is going bad.
The Restore do help by Reallocating the bad cluster, so that iTunes don't put any music there, anyway there are pending sectors, which is marked good after several tries, and iTunes put music there. So your problem will come back again, depending on how tender you are with your iPod.
So do a backup as soon as you can, use a 3rd party software if you need to backup from your iPod to portable hardisk, if you haven't backup your iTunes library.

  • Interference when playing dowloaded songs

I recently downloaded 2 CD's to my iPod and when I play them there is a static interference in some of the songs and the sound is interrupted by this noise....?

I think I am getting the same problem..
I bought my Mini yesterday, and I have three CD's in it and whenever I want to play a song I get strange static noises, and it skips through all the songs in the album until the last one, then it stops and goes back to the main menu.
    Help Ussss!

  • Display dims when playing clip

I wasn't sure if I was just being paranoid, or if it was actually normal. I was watching a video (about 40 minutes) when I started to notice that every five-ten minutes, the screen turns dim (like when you're idle from the computer after like two minutes) then immediately returns to its original brightness. Is this going to be a problem, or am I just paranoid with all the macbook problems occuring with other users?
Another question, I believe my computer is warm to the touch, but I've been keeping track of it's temperature, when it's playing a video it can go up to about 67 degrees C , is this okay, or overheating?
    Black Macbook

    Hi DaeElle,
The screen dims to save energy. You can stop this using the System Preferences / Energy Saver panel.
Head there (you can reach System Preferences from under the apple menu) , click on "options" and deselect "Automatically reduce the brightness of the display before display sleep" checkbox.
Your temperature when playing a video is fine. Nothing to worry about there at all.
    Cheers

  • When playing a song on ipod touch 4th gen, the display doesn't show the time lenghth of song or the shuffle, repeat options.  Any thoughts??

When I used to play music, the song display showed the album art, the length of the song and how much time was left, it also had a repeat and shuffle option at the bottom of the screen  A couple of days ago, these things disappeared.  Any thoughts??

when the song is playing/on the music player tap the album cover or the middle of the screen and these things should pop up for you. If that doesn't work then i dont know.

  • When playing a song in my car thru bluetooth audio suddenly stops

I'll be listening to a song in my car from the ipod, thru bluetooth, when all of a sudden a song's audio will stop, but the time on the car's dash screen shows the song still playing. When I hit the 'next' button, the next song will come on but the time of the previous song is still visible. This is a 3 year old ipod touch. Is it time for a new one?

is there any other bluetooth device linked to ur car's bluetooth device?
it may be the ipod may  need updateing or like you said the ipod's 3year old u may need a new version of the ipod

  • Ipod resets sometimes when playing lossless songs

My Ipod sometimes resets or skips part of song when I play lossless stereo songs (imported through Itunes from original CD). The strange thing is that I can play the same song just fine after the reset again. I have noticed some pople have problem with mono recordings but haven't found any also for lossless stereo. The ipod is updated to latest software version. Any ideas?

I'm having the same problem with Apple lossless on both of my iPods (5g 60GB and 2G 4GB mini, green). Oddly, the resets occur at the beginning of certain songs on the mini and at the end of certain songs on the video.
The problem songs are consistent within each iPod, but not between the two. I thought it might be an issue with gapless playback, but only one of the albums whose songs are giving me problems is set to gapless.

  • When playing a song in iTunes (AAC or MP3) I get random "skips"

This is a playback issue. Regardless of the format I playback a song, and regardless of the track, at random times during the track I lose audio for a split second. It just cuts out, only for a quick moment... less than a second, then resumes playing.
I run a Macbook Pro but I moved all the music, ~76GB worth, to an external hard drive. I'm wondering if the external hard drive is the problem. I don't have enough room on the Mac to store it all locally. I can provide more details if anyone needs it, not sure what else to provide though.
    TIA

  • Looking For: Music Software That Displays Lyric

I know itunes display lyrics when you right click on the song, and click info, but it is very inconvenient. Anyone know any user friendly music-player program that automatically displays easy-to-read lyrics?

Any other software? (By the way, I am using a PC).
I know that windows media player has the lyric feature, but i cannot change the size of the font. I am looking for a free music player that actually displayes LARGE and CLEAR font for the music I play on my PC.
