Display malfunction at Satellite L300

Hi All out there in computer land.
I've had a L300 for some time now and its been a great machine, however the other day I swiched it on and there are now lines across the display at various points. Some of the lines don't start at an edge and don't finish at an edge. It looks like its 'bleeding' at different points.
It looks like the display is faulty. I must stress that my laptop does not move from its place of use (on a table) and the display is left open and nobody could have come into contact with it. _ I know it has not been damaged._
I have displayed just a white screen (disconnected video cable) and the problem is still there.
Thanks for your help in anticipation.

Hello Fred
My advice to this issue is simple: contact nearest Toshiba authorized service provider and let them check your notebook. It must be new notebook with valid warranty.
So don't waste your time and let them repair your notebook.

  • Satellite L300 1BD - VGA output is not working

    Hello.
I have a Toshiba Satellite L300 1BD (Model PSLB8E). I was usinng the VGA output to connect to my LG tv. It worked fine until last week. All of a sudden the TV doesn't get reckognized by the laptop anymore. The TV says that no external device is connected. I have tried different things: starting up with the TV connected and not connected through the VGA cable, pressing the FN+F5 button, removing the battery and pressing the powerbutton, checked for the latest videodriver, removed the existing driver and installed it again...unfortunately without any result. I also tried to hook the TV up with a different VGA cable, but no result. It's not the TV, because i did try to hook the laptop up to a TFT monitor and it didn't work as well. Tested the VGA cable with my friends laptop: it works perfect.
The strange thing is: if i hook the TV up to the laptop, i can hear the laptop is making the 'new hardware detected' sound and the laptopscreen even turns black for a second, then everything appears back on the laptopscreen. If i check the graphic properties with the rightclick on my desktop, i can see that they are no set for 'clone device'. As if the laptop knows, something is connected, but just can't transfer the image to the TV screen.
The graphic adapter is a Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset family.
The OS is Vista Home Basic (32).
It's a shame the VGA output seems to be out of order since i watch tons of video's and movies through my laptop on the TV screen. I don't know if this could be a software or a hardware malfunction. If anyone has an idea or some clue, please let me know. Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
I would like to give my 2 cents to this post (and the answers from Toshiba):

I have exactly the same L300 19F with the same graphic adapter, only with Windows 7 Ultimate (32) and was watching DVD's through my Toshiba TFT TV-set/VGA Monitor for a couple of years as well as all of a sudden it doesn't work anymore. The same as the gentleman who started this thread I checked everything there is to check: my laptop/another screen, another laptop/my screen, drivers, new cable, even installed the (original and licensed) W7 OS again etc. etc. etc. TO NO AVAIL !!!
Since this is the first time that I can't solve a technical computer problem in more then 25 years I got mad and started to think what the heck I did different over the last few weeks, and now I think I know the culprit.
One day, a few months ago, I saw a warning in my screen to flash my BIOS with a new upgrade from the Toshiba website. Having seen that message for several months I did not give it much attention because everything worked fine, and the reason given for the update was a quote "password protection update" unquote, a function I don't use anyway and that's why I didn't run that fast.
After a while I decided to flash the BIOS, just to get rid of the annoying message and now I am quite sure that it really did kill my VGA output capabilities.
So, instead of the nice "Check your Power Cord" and "Go to the Official Toshiba Dealership" hints, maybe there is some technical solution. Maybe there might even be a nice technical Toshiba person have a look into the BIOS update and what the heck the differences are with the old one.
At the very least you could offer a "downdate" of the current valid BIOS for this type, because everything used to work pretty good and, as a 25 year long time customer of Toshiba laptops, I could be entitled to a little better (quality) answer.......
My friend Marcinondrums and I still have hopes.
    Thank you !!

  • Memory upgrade problem on Satellite L300

My laptop is a Satellite L300 PSLB8A-047004. I purchased a kit of 2 x 2GB modules and inserted carefully following the instructions (they clicked into place). On restart the Power light was lit, the fan was on but no further activity, and the display remained black, no disk activity. Originally there was 1-off 1GB PC2-6400S module installed and Ive checked that the new ones are PC2-6400S. I took them out and put them back in but same result. When I put the original module back in it worked fine.
I then tried just one of the new modules in place of the original one but no luck so the original module is now back in and all seems OK.
Any suggestions please? If there was module damage from being handled then the original 1GB module should also be damaged as its the one thats been handled the most.
    Kev.

This is typical behaviour by compatibility problems. Which modules you have, I mean who is manufacturer?
I recommend you to use high quality products from Kingston or Toshiba. For more info about compatible modules for your notebook visit http://www.kingston.com/worldwide/default.asp

  • Re: IMPORTANT - How to install Windows 2000 on a Satellite L300-16M (PSLB0E) ?

    Hello,
I'm an independent developper and absolutely need to install several operating systems on my *Satellite L300-16M (PSLB0E)* : it's very important for me because I've to check working of piece of software under every environment for real (not using solutions like VMware, for example).
Well, so, at this time, I've done an Acronis TrueImage backup of original full HDD, then deleted original WinRE and Data partitions, reduced and moved at beginning of disk the Vista partition... and installed System Commander 8 to prepare my future multi-boot. At this time, all sounds right : Vista works perfectly !
Also, note I've configured SATA in Setup BIOS to be in "Compatibility" mode ; just because I don't need AHCI in my type of use !
Second stage : now, *I have to install Windows 2000 Pro (SP4) FR*. Of course, I'm aware that the blocking point is the SATA/AHCI driver, wich is absent in the Win 2K CD... So, I've just made a new CD integrating these drivers using nLite ; at this time, I've tried using driver from Toshiba's XP Drivers page and Intel site about Intel 82801 HEM/HBM SATA AHCI Controlleur (ICH8M).
But it doesn't work completely : the Win 2K install starts... All drivers are well loaded (including the AHCI ones) and just after this loading step, I get a black screen with just a blink cursor at top left of screen... indefinitively :-(
I've also tried to switch SATA to "AHCI" mode in BIOS and it's the same.
So, what to do next ?
Do I've used the wrong AHCI drivers ? Do I need to incorporate the maximum of Toshiba Drivers (about chipset, display, sound) in the Windows 2000 install CD using nLite ? I mean until the CD capacity is not reached.
Is there a way or tutorial to install Windows 2000 somewhere ? For XP, I think it will more easy because SP3 seems to support AHCI, but, just now, my problem is to install Windows 2000 : even if Microsoft wants to leave-it, there are a lot of professionals who still use-it... And my job, as developer, is to do my software works on this OS too ! *I really need to find a way to install it on this computer !!!*
Awaiting your lighted replies and all tips or idea which could help me to achieve the task.
In one word : HELP ! oops !

Thanks xaver, but I've already tried stormng-20070827133046.zip and it remains the same :(
About all driver ? Oh, in fact, I'll try to see if the XP ones work and if not I'll have a not-fully working Win 2K, but it will be enough for me to test my programs... I hope, at least, I'll be able to do display driver work !
Well, seeing I don't succeed using Intel/Toshiba drivers and nLite, I'm trying at this time to go through another way, installing Win2K in a VMware, then forcing install of the Toshiba AHCI driver, then doing a TrueImage of this and restauring in the Toshiba ! I'll see...
However, if someone has an idea, don't hesitate.
EDIT : I'm now at the step to try to force the Store Manager driver from Toshiba (the one given for this model under XP), launching iata_cd.exe and after some second I see a message saying that this OS (Windows 2000) is not supported by this driver... So, from now, I clearly know why this driver failed when I gone through the nLite-customized Win2K CD install directly on the Satellite :-(
So, this change the game : does it exist a Windows 2000 compatible driver for the Satellite L300-16M's AHCI Controller ??? This is the question !
If you have the answer, very thanks to tell me, of course...

  • Satellite L300 - Built In webcam suddenly stopped working

    Hello,
I have a Toshiba Satellite L300 with a built in 2.0 USB camera and a windows 7 operating system, the camera suddenly stopped working since about 2-3 weeks ago with unknown reason!
I already tried system restore, un-installing and re-installing the camera driver, preformed a full scan by kaspersky internet antivirus 2012 (up to date), and I also ran a complete system and drivers troubleshooting ... and the problem still exists ...
When I use the windows live movie maker it gives me an error saying: cant record audio or video from the selected device. Make sure that the device you're trying to use is installed properly and not currently in use by another program.
The microphone works well on skype but the camera doesn't open!
Please tell me how to fix it, what am I missing?

    > webcam appears in the device manager
Is it marked with an yellow exclamation mark?
Usually if the webcam software has been installed, you should be able to start this software going to:
    All Programs -> Toshiba
There you should find the webcam software check if you can use and control the webcam after this software has been started normally the webcam control bar should pop up if you would move the mouse cursor above the upper display area PS: the bar can be moved to other area too; left right or bottom

  • Satellite L300 does not have sound and modem is also not working

I have this Toshiba Satellite L300 (PSLB8A--1F004) an Australian model which was working perfectly well until I changed the harddrive after it developed bad sectors.
I have installed Win Vista Business.
I have all the drivers (TOSAPINS folder) that came with the original harddrive but when I did installed the drivers by following the correct order. i.e chipset, display, common modules, audio, modem and all other drivers.
There is still a little red x on the taskbar saying " No audio output device is installed" and also I noticed that the modem is not listed under device manager. I have also tried replacing a working modem card from a same model laptop but it is still not showing any signs of picking up the modem as well as sound driver.
I made attemp to download drivers from mytoshiba.com.au under the exact model and OS and installed but to no avail the problem is still there.
No sign of modem picked up and the little red x on taskbar still says " No audio output device is installed" and on device manager its not showing the audio or modem. there is also nothing in yellow exlamation marks and also I've tried to view hidden devices but still there is no sign.
Is there any thing else that I've missed out that I can try again?
    WewakMaster

No I dont have the vista service pack and the internet speed at my end is too slow to download it.
So I have tried installing windows 7 but the problem still remains.
I have now removed win7 and have installed WIndows XP SP3 but there is still no sign of audio so Im stuck with win XP SP3 and trying to find solutions now.
I think the problem may have been caused when I upgrade the bios...and Im still looking for ways to downgrade the bios to its original bios to confirm this.

Is it possible to connect a CRT TV to the Satellite L300 using lead from the external display connection to the TV AV3 Video socket (yellow)? I am not having much success. What settings do I need ? I am using a Panasonic Quintrix 100Mhz TV and I am told by the manufacturer that it should work.

When I bought my L300-17l all drivers from Toshiba drivers download pafe worked ok.
Recently I reinstalled my XP OS and now I started installing again all the drivers. LAN was ok, WLAN was ok, Display driver was ok.
But when I get to install Toshiba Power Saver ( URL: [http://support1.toshiba-tro.de/tedd-files2/0/pwrsav-en-20080519172104.zip] ) it gives me this error ( it shows the error either after I click finish on the instalation or before installing has begun, as you can see on this screenshot ) - [http://www.picvalley.net/v.php?p=u/2381/9078672171740560287.JPG]
I tried later this - i go ot control panel and open Toshiba Power Saver, but then it gives me another error - " CANNOT open because you do not have access rights to use "TOSHIBA Power Saver".
I reinstalled again my XP and it still gives me this error....I wonder what the problem could be....PLS help me

    Hi
Satellite L300-17L belongs to the PSLBCE series.
I chosen this model number and found exactly the same power saver which you have tried to install.
Therefore I assume you have chosen the right Power Saver Utility for this notebook model.
But did you install also the Common Module?
This software should be installed firstly before any other tools installation.
Did you update the Win XP to the latest state?
    Check this!

If you want to this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on the system."
It is a Satellite L300-19Y with Mobile intel 4 series Graphics card. I have updated to the latest driver.
The screen is very fuzzy at present.
Please help with a solution if possible.

    Hi
    I found your other thread:
    http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/message.jspa?messageID=250126
You tried to install a ATI driver on this notebook.
I have no idea if this would affect the OS functionality but it seems that you get a error message while installing the Intel driver so maybe you have muddled up the OS installing some wrong drivers
Did you use the driver from Toshiba driver page?
    If not do that!
You should firstly uninstall the driver in device manager and then should reboot the notebook.
After new reboot you should check if you could install the driver once again

  • Re: Satellite L300 boots up slowly

    Hi Everybody,
I'm not sure whether my issue is OS related or laptop related, so I figured I would start here.
I've got a Toshiba Satellite L300 running Windows Vista Home. I love this laptop, it's probably the best I've ever had; it ticks all the boxes (battery, speed, display, etc), but there is one aspect that drives me up the wall - from power on it takes an age to get past the Windows Welcome screen to the login prompt. Is this Vista behaviour or is there some Toshiba effect going on during boot?
I've got a desktop machine in the house running the same OS and it pretty much boots straight to the login screen - which makes me jealous! That sort of boot time would be very useful when I'm mobile!
If anyone has any ideas I would love to hear from you.
    Many thanks,
    Alex

    > Between the Vista Logo appearing and the login prompt it can take about 3-4 minutes
Yeah, it's pretty much time to boot up. It looks like Os related issue. My advice is to download software like Tuneup utility. It cleans registry, defragment, remove the old files ... Also, you should check System configuration -Startup.
By the way, do you have an application called ,,Face recognition,, it can also take much time. If suggested above don't help you, you can reinstall Os but don't forget to back up necessary files/folders

  • Satellite L300 - Charger causes freezing

I have Satellite L300 with Windows 7 64bit running. Computer works great without charger. Charger charges battery ok with system shut down. Charger charges battery ok when running in safe mode.
OS reinstalled and drivers updated that can be when laptop is running on battery.
If startup with charger plugged in will boot all the way up to end of welcome screen then freezes. What exactly changes at this point? Running on battery is fine untill charger is plugged in then freezes immediately. Laptop cannot or willnot run without battery on charger--freezes at welcome. Battery charger not problem as identical results with new identical charger.
Toshiba Techn suggested reinstall OS and drivers -DONE- no difference nothing that some changes may not be done in safe mode or without charger attatched. In reading forums searching for solutions I note that many suffer this problem with no definitive solution coming to hand. Toshiba seem extremely shy to attack this problem in general and my experience with them on phone seemed to have my mate ducking and diving.
To me the issue seems to be in the power distribution (hardware or software) but I have reached a stage someone with superior knowledge has to take my hand to guide me. Can anyone assist.

    Hi buddy,
I assume you are using an original Toshiba AC/DC adapter, right? Or do you use a 3rd party charger?
I think only Toshiba knows what at this point where notebook freezes will be accessed...
Have you reinstalled Windows from Toshiba recovery disk or is it your own Windows 7 installation?
If yes I would try installing Windows from Toshiba recovery disk to make sure the problem is not software or driver related. Toshiba recovery disk contains an image of factory settings with all drivers and tools.
This means if the same error occurs after recovery installation its a hardware malfunction :(

  • Satellite L300-1DN: battery does not charge

    Hi,
i bought a Toshiba Satellite L300-1DN less than a week ago and its worked fantastically.
This morning i was using it, battery go low so i plugged it in to charge, which naturally when fine and charged up.
Went out in the afternoon, came home and started using it again.
When the battery got low i plugged it in and about 10 mins later realised it was still getting very very low and did not display it to be plugged in!
I figured the wire had came out the adapter as it does, but it hadn't.
Ive tried it now in 3 different plug sockets with the laptop on and off but it will not charge!
Is it a charger problem or laptop problem?
    Thanks :D

    Hi
Can you start the notebook with AC/DC adaptor only?
If yes it seems to be a problem of your notebook (maybe the mainboard) because the AC/DC adaptor works properly (you can start the notebook with AC/DC adaptor only).
So you should contact the nearest authorized service provider. They can check the notebook and exchange the mainboard if its necessary.
    Bye

  • Sound drivers for Satellite L300-17l don't work

I have installed XP Sp2 on my Satellite L300-17l. I downloaded the drivers I need from Toshiba official site. The display and WLan and Lan drivers were ok but the sound driver does not work. After installing the sound driver windows says "Your new hardware was installed but may not work properly".
I have tried 2 versions of the driver that are in the official site but neither one worked. I started to worry if the sound hardware on my new notebook is ok at all?
Any solutions ? I can't get the problem for couple of days now..need help dudesa

Before you would install the sound driver you should firstly install the
    AUDIO Patch *KB835221* and *KB888111*.
These are Microsoft hotfixes. Search in the net for the download
After installation reboot the OS and then try to reinstall the sound driver again.

  • Memory upgrade on Satellite L300

I purchased a satellite L300 in august 08 in Australia. It came with a single 1Gb memory module which is now inadequate.
I obtained 2 x 2Gb modules but cannot get it to work with both fitted. Bios reports 4Gb fitted but Vista reboots the first time then blue screens. Ubuntu Linux hangs after loading HAL.
If only one module fitted it works OK and it does not matter which module is used.
Any info on this would be most appreciated.

    Hi
Either the chipset is not able to handle 4GB RAM or there is a compatibility issues between both modules.
This is nothing unusual and happens very often that both modules cannot work together.
In your case I recommend testing other modules.
PS: Be sure that BIOS is up to date... if it's not up to date, then update it and then test both modules again...
