Display mirroring and resolution

Hi,
I'm trying to set up my macbook for presentations using an apple vga adaptor. When I plug into an external monitor, everything behaves as I expect until I switch ON mirroring. When I do this the macbook screen becomes square (even though the resolution is set to 1280 x 800), with large black edges.
Any thoughts?

*External Display Modes*
The computer supports two external display modes: video mirroring and extended desktop. The default is extended desktop mode. To toggle between the two modes, use the Displays pane in System Preferences.
*Extended Desktop Mode*
In extended desktop mode, the resolution of the two displays can be set independently. In this mode, the maximum external display resolution supported by the MacBook is 2048 x 1536 at 60 Hz for analog displays and 1920 x 1200 at 60 Hz for digital displays.
*Video Mirroring Mode*
In mirroring mode, a single resolution is used for both displays. The highest resolution possible is the native resolution of the internal display (1280 x 800). If the external display can support a higher resolution than the internal display, that higher resolution is unused in mirroring mode.
*If the external display cannot support the full resolution of the internal display, the lower resolution is used for both displays.* A suitable resolution for both displays should be chosen in the Displays pane of System Preferences.
*Scaling and Black Borders*
In either extended desktop or video mirroring mode, choosing a lower resolution than a display supports results in scaling up the image, if possible. Depending on the supported resolutions, aspect ratios, and refresh rates of the two displays, the scaled image may not fill the screen of one display, in which case the image on that display has black borders. This black border typically occurs when the resolution chosen has a different aspect ratio than the display. It does not occur on CRT displays.

Mac OS X 10.7.4 ARD Issues When Observing/Controlling Computers with Display Mirroring/Different Resolutions

As if Macs in an enterprise environment could be more difficult to manage, now since our upgrade to OS X 10.7.(4) I have lost the ability to remotely control numerous Macs in our organization. The issue occurs when attempting to control a Mac running OS X 10.7.(4) that has their Display mirrored and the resolution does not match on both displays. What happens is that I can see the remote screen however it does not fill the entire Observe/Control window. Instead, the remote screen takes up about 50% of the window, the rest is black but sometimes will display a mirror image of the remote screen in the black area. What?! Yeah, I've attached a screenshot because this is ridiculous. The real problem is that I cannot control the computer when it has reached this state, the mouse no longer functions properly, it is not clicking where I place the mouse, etc. I have made sure that I have all updates including ARD Client/Server updates. I even tried VNC but as I have come to find out that is a whole other issue (doesn't work, sends me to the login screen, etc).
So here's what I need:
- A patch that is going to fix this issue
- A script to run that is going to change the remote screen resolution (I still have the ability to run remote scripts, etc. simply not Observe/Control)
Ideas?

I found a way to work around this issue. Not a fix but a work around.
This is little application some one wrote to toggle mirroring on and off.
Mirror Displays
If you put this application in the client computer's /Aplications folder
you can use ARD or SSH to run the app and switch modes.
The problem only occurs for me when a client is set to mirror dissimilar displays with different aspect ratios.
I am only seeing this in Lion 10.7.4 and 10.7.5

Display size and resolution

I am trying to figure out how to make the resolution smaller. All I have come up with and read is how to make the windows smaller, but what I am trying to do is make the whole window smaller (even the words) as well as the menu words on the top. i.e. file, edit, view, history, etc...
Right now I am using the 1680x1050 resolution. I know how to make the window and its inside content smaller, but what I want to do is make the outside of the window including the words smaller.
Any help will be great.

Once you've reached the maximum resolution for the display, you can't make anything else smaller. There are haxies that will change the system font, but being haxies, they will likely break during a future operating system update unless you upgrade them to their tested version with the system update. Two programs that do this are

Shapeshifter also supports numerous themes that change the window border content.
If that's not enough you need a display with higher resolution support to get things any smaller.

My MacBook Pro can't find the display brand and resolution

Hello everybody,
I have a MacBook Pro "Core i7" 2.7 13" Early 2011.
I use and external display Philips 220C1SW
Recently my mac won't recognize the Philips brand anymore and use instead a generic display resolution, which is wrong.
Does anybody had the same issue?

Check out the article below for resolving issues when connecting to an external display. I would start with resetting the NVRAM and SMC as they will resolve most display resolution and power issues.

Selecting display screen and resolution for L540 and other thinkpads ?

What is the difference between different types of displays : 15.6 " TFT HD (1366 X 768), 15.6 " FHD (1920 X 1080), 15.6 " HDD (1366 X 768) ? I am planning to purchase a 15.6 " Thinkpad but I am not able to decide which type of display to get. FHD display costs $170 extra, and how much the pixel density will affect the screen resolution in 15.6" ? I know in 15.6" screen, 1366X768 will have a PPI of around 101, around how much PPI we need generally ? I am going to use laptop for work purpose, coding, deveopment etc. I am not a gamer and will play and watch movie ocassionaly. So, what type of display will suit me ? Any help will be deeply appreciated.

If you are doing desktop publishing, and use a clear plastic ruler to take measurements off the screen, a 19" (18" viewable) ideal resolution at 72 dots/inch and 4:3 aspect ratio yields 1036 by 784 pixels, which is never supported. The closest one down from that is 1024 by 768, adjusted to a picture width of 14.2 inches by height of 10.6 inches. this will give you a really good "what you see is what you get" display, and can save you time and trouble.
That said, it seems nowadays that folks Not doing desktop publishing set them to the highest resolution possible, and then increase the default browser text size until they can read it. If you choose not to maintain a 4:3 aspect ratio (4x number of pixels horizontal to 3x number of pixels vertical) you will have to live with whatever distortion is introduced into your work, including movies and pictures of real-world objects from the Web.
Tests show that refresh rates above 75 Hz reduce flickering for almost everyone, but that there is wide person-to-person variability below that rate. So set it to 75 Hz or higher, if your display supports it.
In any case, the highest refresh rate that works with your display without making high-pitched whining noises or getting really hot will reduce eyestrain. The reduction in system performance from higher refresh rates is truly negligible, as long as your display hardware has VRAM (and the Blue & White has 16 MB on the default display card).

Can i select displays mirror and change audio output with applescript

Can ipod touch do airplay and display mirroring

I have an Ipod Touch runninig ios 6.1.6
can it do display mirroring and airplay
If i am not wrong normally there should me an airplay butting in the music app but there's no airplay button in my music app

Messed up color display and resolution because of mini-DVI to video adapter

Once I connected the mini-DVI to video adapter to the tv and got weird colors on my screen for a while but then it worked out, then after a while I disconnected the cable and turned my computer off. After that, everytime I turned my macbook on, the color is fine for two seconds and then it turns into a weird offset color, really bright colors, kinda sketchy and just a few colors, and a weird resolution and display obviously, but then I just connect my Mini-DVI to video adapter and disconnect it again (quickly) and the color returns to normal. How can I make the normal colors stay and not have to connect the mini-DVI to video adapater everytime I want to see the normal color display and resolution??

Open the Universal Access pane of System Preferences, click on Seeing, turn off the White on Black, VoiceOver, and Zoom options, and drag the Contrast slider all the way to the left. If the issue persists, create a new folder on the desktop, drag half of the items from the Library/Preferences/ folder of the item in the Finder's sidebar with the house icon into it, and narrow down the files until you've isolated the one responsible.

to get to the Detect Displays button you have to hold down the Option key and the button appears.

Here are the steps for AirPlay:
Before starting Azul from your (running iOS 5.x/6.x) home screen where have have all your apps we need to turn on mirroring
On your iPhone 4S/5 or iPad 2 or 3, double-click the Home Button to view your recently-used apps.
Swipe all the way to the right to until you see the icon.
Note: If the icon does not appear, go to the "If AirPlay Mirroring is not visible or available on your mobile iOS device" section.
Tap the icon to see the list of available AirPlay devices.
Enable AirPlay Mirroring in this menu by tapping on an available Apple TV, then sliding the Mirroring slider to ON.
Now you should be seeing your iPad/iPhone on your TV.
Start up Azul now and using the settings icon on the top right corner go to the option that say "TV out" ON.
When you do that you will see an Orange screen
Now click "Done" and play the video you want to watch and it will AirPlay

2) Yesterday I made the subclips with the In-Out Points and Command-U, the benefit is that I've seen the clip before naming it. Now I'm using markers, it's benefit is that I can write comment and (the later) clip name at once, the drawback is that I have to view to the next shot's beginning before knowing what the shot contains.
But now I found out that I can reconnect my clips independently to the format I converted the master clip to. I reconnected the media to the original AVI file and it worked, too! The more I work with, the more I'm sold on it... - although it doesn't seem to be able to read and use the date information within the DV AVI.
1) Ok, I tried something similar within FCE. Just worked, but the file size still remains. Which codec settings should I use? Is the export to DV in MOV with a quality of 75% acceptable for both file size and quality? Or would be encoding as H.264 with best quality an option for archiving, knowing that I have to convert it back to DV if I (maybe) wan't to use it for editing later? Or anything else?

InDesign CS6 is not optimized for retina displays. You’ll need to move to Creative Cloud for retina compatibility.

I searched through net but I didn't find any best tutorial for that format..
I am able to find the height and width from the eps file..
By just opening that eps file.. I found %%Bounding box height width....as in some post posted by our jive member...
In this way, is there any way to find the resolution..
if any body knows this details.. please post.. Even if you have the file format tutorial post that one..

Mountain Lion, AirPlay Mirroring, and multiple monitors - how to choose display?

I have an iMac running OS X 10.8.1 with two external monitors connected via Thunderbolt. I have a 3rd-gen Apple TV on the same network. I can turn on AirPlay Mirroring and my primary monitor will display on my TV. However, I would like another monitor mirrored instead. I have looked but can't seem to find a setting to choose which monitor is mirrored.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

You can remove the Logmein sound driver.
You will no longer be able to hear your Mac from your remote machine.
Start Terminal and paste:
sudo kextunload /system/library/extensions/logmeinsounddriver64.kext
I did this long time ago because I was having sound problems on Lion.

Mirroring and Extending Display error

When I connect my mac to my display via Mini Display adapter using vga the colours from most windows look like in the picture.

It works again now but if it happens again I have
