Display not activating

Last night I grabbed my MBP and ran up to the neighbors to work on some Math Problems. I was telling him how much I loved my Mac and how it hasn't crashed or had any problems (slight lie) since I had it. I opened up the lid and nothing. The system was on, the lights were on, the keyboard was active but I could not get the screen to go from black to viewable.
Normally I press the space bar when this happens and it comes on but last night nothing worked. I could hit wrong keys and the sound card would sound out so I know it was on. I ended up having to do a hard reset, at which point when it came back up it sat for 10 minutes trying to reboot and never did. I had to do a second hard boot to finally get it going again. Wasn't a good impression for someone that is about to buy a new computer and was asking what I thought about my new Mac.
Any ideas what would have caused this? Here are the things that might have effected it.
1) the computer was asleep on my desk when I shut the lid and left.
2) It had power plugged in before I shut it
3) When I opened it it was running off battery power
Thanks,
glenn

This sometimes happens if you somehow manage to put your Mac asleep while the screen is off, but the system's running. Stupid bug, though not really serious (you should always save your data before putting computer to sleep).
For example: Mac has turned the screen off because you've left it unattended for some time. You then close the lid and put it asleep. When the machine wakes up, it remembers having the screen off before going to sleep - so it starts up with the screen off, but "forgets" to turn it on again. It happend to me three times. I'm much more careful now.
If it happens, shut it down (somehow), reset power management (unplugg from the AC adapter, remove battery and hold POWER button for ten seconds) and it shut work fine without any more reboots.

  • The option 'Display Credit Balance with negative sign" was not activated.

    I've encountered with a huge problem after load opening balance.
    I forgot to tick the  option 'Display Credit Balance with negative sign"
    It makes my client's Chart of Account  uncommon such as credit balance in Cash Account, AR .....
    However, I've search the sap  note to solve it  as follow:
      Description of the bug::
    When creating the company in the system the option 'Display Credit Balance with negative sign' was not activated.
    Once transactions were created in the system the functionality can not be changed.
    Limits of the query:
    After running the update query, please restart SBO first and then   run the restore 'GL account and bp balances';
    otherwise, the cashed value of SBO will not be updated and restore function may not take effect.
    1. Meaning of  restart SBO => restart SBO Service Manager right?
    2. Please help me please to find "The restore G/L account and bp balances" form.  Where is it?;

    Hi,
    I would think that you are following the PEQ instructions for note 970813, correct?
    If this is the case and you are using 2007 then you will find the restorev in the top menu; Help -> Support Desk -> Restore. You will find the functions here. Please note that this should only be used on direct instruction from support or a note like in this case. A backup should also be taken before running restore.

    macbook air runs hot and makes noise like processor running hard when connected to display - even when not actively using air book

    You could use the free tool iStat Pro to see what changes when you connect your MBA to the display. Without doing anything the CPU pane should show a high percentage for "Idle". If the idle value is too low, launch the Activity Monitor and sort by CPU usage. There is a pane showing the different temperatures of your computer. Watch them for a few minutes after connecting the display.

  • Error: "Component is not active" but component is active

    Hi Experts,
    I transported a Web Dynpro application from source system to target system. When starting the application via browser I'm getting this error message:
    "Component XXX_BDB is not active"
    But the component is active in source and in target system. When I try to activate the component in target system there comes this error:
    Component XXX_BDB can't be generated because of errors: see long text.
    (Message no. SWDP_WB_TOOL100)
    According to the long text, there is a heavy error and I should check the component in order to eliminate the errors. Checking the syntax is OK and strangely, the component controller is also active. But when I want to start WebDynpro-Component, the error message "Component is not active" is displayed.
    I have checked this thread [Problems when activating ComponentController   |Problems when activating ComponentController; without any effect....
    Does someone have any ideas?
    Thanks in advance,
    Tan

    Hi Thomas,
    where can I check the generation load limit?
    I've done an extended syntax check (in source system, is that okay or should I do the check on both systems?), there are some errors regarding strings, field properties and structure extensions and some warnings regarding field properties.
    But this errors are on an other wd component as well, but this other component is running, so I'm not sure if these errors are crucial. However I'm going to fix the errors now.
    Baskaran, I will check the component controller and component usage as well but how can I identify the errors or should I just check it in general?
    And what about the fact that both applications are running on the source system?
    Additional info: the source system is ECC 6.0, the target system is Solution Manager 7.0
    Thanks

  • Secondary display not detected on cold boot, nvidia

    So since a week or two i have this strange problem that if i want to activate my secondary monitor(a beamer is plugged into it) nvidia doesn't find it. If i reboot my pc it works without any problems, restarting X doesn't solve the problem as well.
    I usually use disper to do the job, but also in nvidia-settings the display isn't detected or shown.
    My card is a nvidia 8800gt, my xorg.conf is just empty and i'm using 260.19.29-1 drivers, recent Xorg version and system is generally up to date.
    Any hints where i can look for errors? dmesg didn't give me any usefull information, but i will quote it anyway, maybe you gues can see something in it.
    thanks in advanced!

    Thanks for the reply!
    The open source driver doesn't support my card yet. I tried installing it first since its the recommended driver, but Xorg couldn't detect any display at all.
    It seems the PCI BusID is not being read from the xorg.conf file. There's auto detection everytime the PC boots.

  • How to use ShowValue within a UIX/JSP page to display an active link?

    I am storing URL's in the DB and want to display them as active links on a UIX/JSP page. I thought that I had this working some time ago, but now it no longer works.
    Using <bc4juix:RenderValue datasource="ds1" dataitem="myTextField" /> will display "http://www.otn.oracle.com" as an inactive link using UIX/XML which is expected.
    Using <jbo:ShowValue datasource="ds1" dataitem="myTextField" /> will display an active link using if using BC4J/JSP, which is expected.
    However, I have not been able to do this using a UIX/JSP page.
    Is it possible to use ShowValue within a UIX/JSP page to display an active link?
    Thanks,
    Bill G

    Hi Juan,
    I've done the following and it does not work for me;
    --- snip ---
    <uix:form name="form1" method="GET">
    <bc4juix:Table datasource="ds1" >
    <uix:columnHeaderStamp>
    <uix:styledText textBinding="LABEL"/>
    </uix:columnHeaderStamp>
    <%--
    <jbo:AttributeIterate id="dsAttributes" datasource="ds1" hideattributes="UixShowHide">
    <bc4juix:RenderValue datasource="ds1" dataitem="<%=dsAttributes.getName()%>" />
    </jbo:AttributeIterate>
    --%>
    <bc4juix:RenderValue datasource="ds1" dataitem="FacilityDesc" />
    <bc4juix:RenderValue datasource="ds1" dataitem="LocationId" />
    <bc4juix:RenderValue datasource="ds1" dataitem="LocationDesc" />
    <%-- ** THE FOLLOWING DOES NOT DISPLAY ON THE BROWSE_EDIT_PAGE ** --%>
    <jbo:ShowValue datasource="ds1" dataitem="Notes" ></jbo:ShowValue>
    <%-- ** THE FOLLOWING DOES NOT DISPLAY ON THE BROWSE_EDIT_PAGE ** --%>
    <uix:rawText>
    <jbo:ShowValue datasource="ds1" dataitem="Notes" ></jbo:ShowValue>
    </uix:rawText>
    <%-- ** THE FOLLOWING DOES NOT DISPLAY ON THE BROWSE_EDIT_PAGE ** --%>
    <uix:contents>
    <uix:rawText>
    <jbo:ShowValue datasource="ds1" dataitem="Notes" ></jbo:ShowValue>
    </uix:rawText>
    </uix:contents>

    Yes, you can do something like that. What you would do is create a button for each image and then hide them. When I do this type of thing I place all of the buttons on a template page and then hide the template.
    You can then use JavaScript to copy the icon from any of the hidden buttons to the main button that you've set up to display the image. For example, suppose you set up 10 buttons named b1, b2, b3, ...b10. The code to copy the icon from one of them to the button used to display the image (b0) would be something like this:
    // Get the icon from the b3 button
    var oIcon = getField("b3").buttonGetIcon();
    // Get  reference to the b0 button
    var f = getField("b0");
    // Set the icon of the b0 button to the icon retrieved from the hidden button
    f.buttonSetIcon(oIcon);
    // Show the b0 button
    f.display = display.visible;
    This code would go in the Mouse Up event of the smaller button.

  • I get "an error has occured" when trying to download from the AppStore.  I can not re-download as the button is not active.

    I encountered the response "an error has occured" when I downloaded Maverick X from the App Store.  I can not try to re-download as the download button is not active.  I have tried rebooting and to get the download from apple.com but it keeps redirecting to the App Store.
    Suggestions?

    Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
    Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
    When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
    Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
    Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
