Display optimization for macbook pro and facetime

Is there an optimal display setting when using FaceTime 2.0 on my MacBook Pro purchased in 2009. I currently am set to 1920 X 1200.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
You can use FaceTime with the resolution you want. Also, the resolution doesn't mind, because the camera resolution will be the same, so it's better to not modify anything and leave it as it is

Im completely new to Mac. Im swapping my windows laptop for macbook pro and looking for network storage solution which the Time Capsule seems to do. Is it possible to use this as NAS for my desktop Windows PC - windows 7

Broadly speaking I want some sort of network storage( wireless or through my existing wifi router) that I can access files for both my windows PC and Macbook and also to access files to my iPad/ iPhone. Some sort of backup and sychronisation so that I can access certain files remotely.
Buy a real NAS.. synology or QNAP are the standard... although companies like Netgear and Western Digital and Seagate make them as well.
There is no problem sharing between Mac and PC now.. you do not even need a NAS to do that.. you simply share the hard disk directly. Mac talk SMB.. everything talks SMB nowadays.. so it is easy.
ipad and iphone are not designed to use NAS.. they are designed to backup only to the cloud or itunes.. but you can load an app like file browser if you want.
    http://www.stratospherix.com/products/filebrowser/
Remote access to the Apple TC is somewhere between difficult, to impossible from a PC.. Apple use BTMM and iCloud but the service is not offered to PC.
A real NAS will offer HTTPS or SFTP or several other methods.. that both Mac and PC can use.
You simply plug it into the current wireless router.. it is a network device and assessable over the network. It is not necessary to buy another router.. in fact that is a waste.

  • Best stand for MacBook Pro and Apple LED Display

I am buying a MacBook Pro and Apple LED Display tomorrow. I want to have a two display setup, similar to what I have seen in the Apple Store. I believe they used a Griffin Elevator. I want to make sure of two things: that the stand is sturdy enough so that my laptop won't slide off of it and that I can adjust the stand/monitor so that the tops are level (so that moving my mouse from the laptop to monitor and back is smooth - i.e. the cursor doesn't jump up or down.
I like the fact that I can use this setup to go mobile very quickly, but what about my direct Ethernet connection. I wish there were a stand/dock such that I could hook everything up to it and then just undock the entire machine.

How did you solve the problem of closing the Macbook Pro when it was connected to the display and preventing it from going to sleep?
I am thinking about buying one. When I went to the local Apple Store the tech guys told me that it would be necessary to keep the laptop open slightly when connecting it to the display. They said it was something to do with cooling. It didn't sound right to me. I'm sure that Apple didn't solely intend for the Cinema Displays to be used by Mac Pro and Mac Mini users.
There must be a simple way to "dock" or connect a Mac laptop (Macbook Pro or Macbook) to an Apple Cinema display or any other display with DVI input while keeping the laptop closed with an external keyboard and mouse connected and still be able to use the SuperDrive.
I'm very curious about how you handled this.
    All the best for now,
    Ambrose

  • Monitor adapter for macbook pro and dell monitor

    Hello,

  • Best external hard drive for Macbook pro and Aperture

Hi, any recomendations for an external hard drive for the macbook pro and aperture. I was looking for approx 300Gb !
    Many thanks
    macphi

Personally I have had poor luck with LaCie Big Disk peformance and support and don't recommend LaCie. However I do recognize that my sample of one is statistically insignificant.
The eSATA concept is interesting, but bleeding tech edge at the moment. For a solid solution that works now I recommend FW800 (forget USB) and RAID 0 technology. I have had great success with OWC and just bought their least expensive (in $ per GB) 640 GB FW800 US$370 RAID O drive setup: <http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/ME8R7640GB16/>.
Just this week OWC introduced RAID 0 +1 drives that have RAID 0 speeds but also provide mirror backups. Perhaps the very best solution but pricey.
EDIT: If you bought a 15" MBP instead of the 17" you forever lack FW 800. Go for a FW 800 or an eSATA Express Card solution when available. You could buy an OWC drive now and jusr run it FW 400 until you get an Express Card FW800 port. The OWC drive came with ports and cables for both FW 800 and FW 400.

  • Bluetooth headset for MacBook pro and iPhone

Is there a recommended Bluetooth headset I can pair with my iPhone and MacBook pro and do things like:
    iPhone:
    Take call
    Listening to music and podcasts
    MacBook Pro:
    Listening to music and podcast
    Skype calls
    Google Voice calls
    Face time
    YouTube
    Etc...
At the same time it would need at least 8 hours of talk and or play time battery.
Has somebody built such thing? If not we should do a kickstarter...
    Thank you for your recommendations

    Try to look at: http://www.jabra.com/

  • HP Print Software for MacBook Pro and Windows 7 gone awry on HP OfficeJet Pro 8600

Almost one year ago today I wrote a post about my first problem with HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 N911.  Today I write my last.
I have an HP OJP 8600, with option Tray 2 included, and auto feed included.  My system test computers are:
    1.  Apple MacBook Pro, OS X 9.5, HP software is the only 3rd party software.
    2.  HP Laptop, Windows 7.
The OJP wireless radio gave up, so I cannot run it wirelessly.  It is connected by ethernet to my router.  All five of my computers can use.  All of the functions of the printer are usable.  For example: it prints, it scans, it copies, it faxes.  All functions working.  My problem is with the HP software download to the Apple and to the HP Laptop.
I would like to be able to use all of the feature settings when I print.  But alas, I cannot.  Both the Apple and the HP Laptop have a similar appearing window that opens when you choose to print something.  In theory, you are supposed to be able to control a range of paper types and quality, print type and quality, and (in my case with the two trays) what tray to use to select the paper.
I regret neither of the computers perform these functions.  And all of the mistakes that I find on the Apple computer I find on the HP Laptop Windows 7 computer.
I don't have the time to test every combination.  But I think the table below will help you get an idea of what the problem is with the software that HP sends offshore for maintenance.
The results of the paper quality selection, the print quality selection, and the tray availability are as follows:
    PAPER              PRINT QUALITY                         TRAY AVAILABILITY
    Plain Paper
    Plain Paper  DRAFT/NORMAL/BEST/MAX DPI gray              Auto/Tray 1/Tray 2
Thick Paper  DRAFT gray/NORMAL/BEST/MAX DPI gray         Auto/Tray 1/Tray 2 gray
    HP Bright    DRAFT/NORMAL/BEST/MAX DPI gray              Auto/Tray 1/Tray 2
    InkJet
    Other        DRAFT gray/NORMAL/BEST/MAX DPI gray         Auto/Tray 1/Tray 2 gray
HP Bright    DRAFT gray/NORMAL/BEST/MAX DPI gray         Auto/Tray 1/Tray 2 gray
    Specialty
    Other        DRAFT gray/NORMAL/BEST/MAX DPI gray         Auto/Tray 1/Tray 2 gray
    Card         DRAFT gray/NORMAL/BEST/MAX DPI gray         Auto/Tray 1/Tray 2 gray
    Brochure
HP Brochure  DRAFT gray/NORMAL/BEST/MAX DPI gray         Auto/Tray 1/Tray 2 gray
    Other        DRAFT gray/NORMAL/BEST/MAX DPI gray         Auto/Tray 1/Tray 2 gray
In summary the new HP Print software for Apple and Windows 7 computers has identical programming mistakes on both operating systems.  Under no circumstances can I use the MAX DPI setting.
The user cannot use the features that are built in to the HP software because the paper selections override the locked tray, the print quality, and the unusually small list of HP selection of papers.
It is time to invoke my warrenty rights.  There are too many systemic problems with the software and the device.  I don't have any more time to act as an unpaid system test analyst for HP.
Who do I contact to use my warrenty before it runs out in a few weeks?

    Hi,
Those are not programming mistakes, but those are limitations of the product, please check the printer specifications below:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02858465&tmp_track_link=ot_faqs/top_issues/en_u...
As you may find under Paper-handling specifications > Paper tray capacities, Tray 2 only support Plain Paper.
Maximum DPI is only only supported on Photo Paper, therefore those limitations are applicable.. these limitations are also listed on the Printing Specifications section above, Maximum DPI is listed as 4800 by 1200 dpi:
Color print resolution: HP enhanced photo quality with Vivera inks (up to 4800 by 1200 dpi Optimized on HP Premium Plus photo papers with 1200 x 1200 input dpi)
As well that can be find listed within the Print photos on photo paper or the Print borderless documents sections, you may simply search for Maximum DPI within the user guide as a reference:
    http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03026243.pdf
Those are not an issues with the printer but those expected limitations fully meet the product specification.

  • Purchasing iWork for MacBook Pro and Mini Mac

If I have a MacBook Pro (older 2006) and a Mini Mac, do I need to purchase iwork for each? Additionally, would I need to purchase pages '09 for each as well?
Also, I'm running Lion on my Mini Mac and Snow Leopard on my MacBook Pro.  Will this affect my purchases?
Apologies if this is pretty common knowledge. I'm still getting to know all this.
    Thanks!!

You can purchase the Family Pack and install iWork on each of your systems.

Or you can purchase each application separately from the Mac App Store and use them on all systems you own or control.

  • IWorks for MacBook Pro and iPad

I purchased iWorks for my MacBook Pro back in the UK last year, and have now moved to Australia.
Is it possible to upload / transfer iWorks to my new iPad 2, or do i need to buy the software again?
i only mention the moving country as i had some issues with iTunes purchasing new software and seeing what software i had bought ... it seems that iTunes is country specific, and doesn't like you to move ...

you can't transfert an app from your mac to your iPad. It's 2 different platforms, OS.
i think you can select the country in the iTunes Store, as i think that the country is linked to your account and not the place where you are. But yeah, there are some content not available depending on the store country. (but again, this is relative to your account)

  • Cable for MacBook Pro and old lacie hardrive

    Hello
I have just upgraded to a MacBook Pro after using a G4 Powerbook since 2004. I had also for the same time used a Lacie 160gb hardrive as back-up. And i guess you know what is coming next. The lead from the Lacie will not fit into the MacBook. I had a quick look at the cables at Apple Shop but it all just looked like a blur to this old fellow. Can someone point me in the right direction please.
    Thank You

You need a FireWire 400 (6-pin) to FireWire 800 (9-pin) cable or adapter:

  • External thunderbolt PCIe enclosures or chassis for Macbook Pro and After Effects CS6

Will using a thunderbolt PCIe enclosure with the nvidia GeForce GTX 285, Quadro FX 4800, or Quadro 4000 function properly with earlier Macbook Pros that do not have the GeForce GT 650M chips already built in? Are there drivers involved that would not be compatible with 17-inch, early 2011 models or any other cpu/chip system issues?  Looking for a way to use the new ray trace features without buying a new computer...since mine is only a year and a half old and already showing obsolescence...   Thanks in advance.

Well, i am still trying to get a difinitive answer from either the apple, the enclosure manufacturers, or the GPU manufacturers.
Many of the visuals suggest that this functions correctly with a MacBook Pro that has a thunderbolt port, but strangely, even Nvidia has no way to even email them...
And any of these parties will not say that any part of this chain functions correctly one way or the other.
    Still digging...

  • Keyboard shortcuts for Macbook pro and wireless keyboards.

I´ve searched for an answer to this issue because it seems so obvious, but I can´t seem to find anything useful. Perhaps I´m just terrible at searching relevant posts here. I apologize if this has been addressed before.
I´m taking some tutorials (from Lynda.com and Ripple training, to name a few) and in all of them, even those about very recent software, they keep aluding to ye olde long keyboards of yesteryear, when you had tildes and the plus and minus signs were on it's own keys. But most modern mac keyboards, on laptops such as macbook pro's, as well as desktop computers now, use the short keyboard. So, for example, if in the tutorial they explain how to reduce the size of a brush with a shortcut pressing command and the plus sign, that shortcut can't be used in a macbook pro, because to get the plus sign you also need a modifier, which completely alters the function of the sortcut.
Now, I guess one could simply edit every command individually, but it seems to me there's gotta be a simpler, easier way to fix this, since old long keyboards have been almost fazed out. It amazes me why don't the programs such as Final Cut, to name an Apple proprietary, just come with a preset for long and short keyboards at this point. But they still don't.
I hope someone can assist me with this issue, and I´m sorry about the syntax and grammar, english is not my native language.

    Tom,
No I have not asked on a dedicated forum since this is an issue I've had with several programs (I should start to refer to them as apps), however, it's not a bad idea and I'll skim those forums to see if this issue has been addressed. Also, indeed you are right and I made a mistake in my previous post, the + sign comes up by just pressing that multipurpose key, with shift it will produce the asterisk and with option it will produce the bracket. I got carried away with Melophage's first post where the plus sign is used as an example. I apologize to both for my mistake, and I'll try to be more specific and careful in the future.
    Tom and Melophage,
My keyboard does have the Spanish-ISO mode of input by default, and I've added the US input also, although I hardly ever use it. And indeed, being able to do something simple like zooming on a document or a web page with command and the plus sign is something I can easily manage. However, the things I usually have a problem with are, for example (and I'll be more specific this time), in photoshop cs6 to reduce or increase the size of a brush, you have to press either the left or right bracket. For me to get the left bracket, I have to press option and a multipurpose key that contains these three signs: ` ^ [. Now, in photoshop, as soon as you press the option key, the brush, or whatever tool you have selected, turns into the eyedropper tool, so pressing option and multipurpose key doesn´t get you a bracket, gets you the eyedropper and ignores any other key you press.
In final cut there is a similar problem with the bracket to make L cuts with a shortcut that uses the bracket, and both programs also make use of the tilde key, which I don't even have in my keyboard.
You both made me realize, of course, that the problem lies in my regional configuration of the keyboard, and that software makers probably just avoid the hassle of having to come up with multiple different sets of keyboard shortcuts due to those different layouts. I still think this is something that should be addressed right from the box, but now I realize it might not be such a prevalent issue, specially with people who have the US keyboard layout.
