Display Path

CS2, Windows
This is a very minor point but it would be very useful if Bridge showed (or had an option to show) the current path in the title or address bar.
It can save time.
This is present in other browsers and Windows Explorer.

Thanks for the reply Ian. After a long search I found where to install the script. Adobe don't make it very clear in their instructions.
For the benefit of anyone else it goes in:
C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Adobe\StartupScripts\bridge\1.0

• 10 bit colour display path for lightroom 3??

I have been following an interesting forum topic on the PS forum here about 10 bit monitor support in PS CS5.
For some background:
10 bits/pixel is becoming more prevalent with high-end displays these days (it provides 1.07 billion color possibilities instead of the 16.7 million colors available with the regular 8 bit display path). Getting a fully working 10 bit path from the app to the display appears to be more of a challenge though, but a challenge which appears to have been overcome now in PS CS5. I'm wondering if moves are afoot for Lightroom to also support the 10 bit color path??
This is my take for what you need for PS CS5 to display 10 bit colour in windows (sorry, I'm not a Mac person so couldn't comment):
Suitable graphics adaptor - Some ATI FirePro models and nVidia Quadro models support 10 bit color (cheapest is nVidia Quadro FX 580) - the availability/use of the displayport interface is most often the tell tale pointer as to whether the adaptor supports this. Only more recent driver packs provide 10bit API support for apps to utilise, so latest drivers are often required.
Displayport connection between graphics adaptor and monitor (DVI only supports 8 bit color)
A monitor which supports 10bit color - (High end NEC models (PA241W/PA271W models and new Spectraview Reference models in UK) now support this as does the HP DreamColor plus some Eizo and Lacie models to mention a few)
Enable 10bit color support in the Graphics adaptor control panel - this option generally only appears when all of the above is in place, and when enabled, provides the display path via OpenGL, for apps to utilise if they are coded for such (this option is known as 'Enable 10-bit pixel format support' for ATI, and 'Deep color for 3D applications' for nVidia)
Enable OpenGL hardware support (under Preferences, Performance,  'Enable OpenGL Drawing' in PS CS5)
So will this be supported in Lightroom 3 before long? Or perhaps it is already??
Anyone know this?
Thanks, Paul
p.s. I realise the above chain of requirements sounds complex, but I got it working this week for a new PC build and it was actually quite straightforward.

What would be the advantage of this?
If you google around for how many colours the human eye is able to distinguish, you'll find scientific research quoting numbers around 10.000.000.
Horribly false.
The prevalent sRGB color space is covered fairly well by the 8 bits per pixel depth most commonly used ("32 bit" or "True Color" color in Windows), and that is about 16.7 million colors.  While bit depth and color space are different things, once you go to the wider gamuts in other color spaces such as Adobe RGB without using more bits you will start to see banding in similarly colored (blue skies is a good example) areas because there are not enough digital steps to make smooth transitions as the color gradually changes.  Take my word for it (I've seen it in many of my own pictures.) or do more reading for more details if it's not clear, but the key points follow.
First go to:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XvYCC
and read about the xvYCC color space.  In their reference number 2 down toward the bottom of the web page you find a link to:
http://data.memberclicks.com/site/hopa/2007_xvYCC_forHPA_FINAL.pdf
which is a pdf of a presentation discussing extended gamut color spaces.  Check out slide 3 which is at the bottom left of page 1 to see examples of many things in the real world that are quite visible to humans but outside of sRGB.
Next check out slide 19 at the bottom left of the 5th page to see just how pathetic sRGB is at covering human vision.  The small pictures on the right in this slide show the coverage of the various color spaces of the "Munsell Color Cascade".  The gray areas indicate colors that each space cannot cover, and you can see sRGB has huge blotches of gray.
Munsell did some of the very early definitive lab testing of human color perception.  You can start reading about him and his color system here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Munsell_color_system
and continue reading other links found on that page for more info about the extensive lab testing of human color perception.
Looking back at slide 4 on page 1 of the presentation linked above you will find an odd looking colored region that is curved around the top.  It looks like this:
That colored region is the estimated range of standard human vision.  There is a version of that which has the sRGB color space shown on it at:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Cie_Chart_with_sRGB_gamut_by_spigget.png
And that large view also gives you a much better idea of just how pathetically inadequate the sRGB color space is at covering human vision.  Again, bit depth is not color space, but 8 bits per pixel is pretty much maxed out trying to represent the sRGB color space without having to fake colors within it's triangle.
There are probably cases where banding can be seen even in purely sRGB images with only 8 bits per pixel.  And every color that you see in that large region with the curve at the top (in the picture shown in the last link above) that lies outside the sRGB triangle will have to be "clipped", which is converted into some color that does lie within the space.  That means you never see any actual colors that fall outside the triangle even if 8 bits per pixel could have covered them somehow using some other color space.  They're simply lost.
If you do try to use 8 bits for wider gamut color spaces you end up with the banding I mention above because there are too many shades of color to be represented by 256 steps for each of red, green, and blue.  Thus the need for 10 bits or more per pixel.
I hope this helps to dispel any more myths about the limitations of human vision falling within what 8 bits per pixel or sRGB can provide.

You can always use Finder > Find or Smart Folders with the path bar.
Indeed! I have always been under the impression that the search box on the right of all Finder windows uses the Spotlight database and search mechanism, but in a Finder-friendly context. Type the word or phrase, which will be searched in file contents, names, etc., and a list of files related to it pop up, as located via Spotlight. Click on any one to select, and the full path always appears on the bottom of the window.
Of course, keeping a trim & slim Spotlight index in every volume helps speed up the search. Lion's indexes seem to be better kept and less bloated, but you can always force a reindexing by purging them using an appropriate utility. I've used OnyX, MacPilot, and Spotless (in days prior to the Lion).

• Display path to parent folder of bookmark

It's been 3 weeks and no new nibbles so I'm tossing this chum back into the community waters.
'''Key phrase below: I WOULD STILL LIKE TO SEE THE PATH...'''
Another article showed me how to use the Parent Folder add-on to display the (duh) parent folder of a bookmark (see: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/855436?e=es&as=aaq ).
While this was very helpful, I would still like to see the PATH to that folder in the display when searching for a bookmark.
This functionality is present in Windows 7 (it's called Search. See http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/help/videos/finding-your-files ).
With over 12K bookmarks, managed as only a librarian can, I not only need to locate bookmarks for retrieval, but want to save new bookmarks to the "correct" folder. The path allows me to do this.

I think you misunderstood (which was why I included the link to the Microsoft Windows 7 page). Before Firefox I used IE9 but both browsers run under Windows 7. I'm basically looking to emulate the functionality of the W7 Search tool when using Firefox (which the Parent Folder add-on tries to do, but not fully). Hope that clears things up?

I would like to see the path to the finder of my referenced images. Not one by one, using "Show in Finder" nor using "Locate refrenced files", but as Metadata.

I commented on it -- just not directly.  That's at least a couple of elevator buttons above just repeating the error.
Fwiw, I assumed since Frank first filled out his location data that his was an ironic comment.  I guess the raised eyebrow lifted my sight.

• Selecting Shape/Vector Layer is auto displaying path in canvas - It shouldn't

When i click on a layer (in layer palette), it is auto showing the path on the canvas.  It didn't do this in CS5.
I am able to turn off "Target Path" in the View > Show > Target Path menu option. But that is only temporary.
The path should only display on the canvas when i click on the path (on the canvas) with a vector tool.
Basically, i want the CS5 behavior. :-)

Thanks for the feedback.
This request has been discussed in depth in several other threads.
It's a painpoint we're aware of and the changes for it will not make it for the CS6 release.
There are ways to work with it, such as what Noel has suggested with the Esc key, you can also use the Enter key (with a vector tool selected) to hide the boundary line, or as you have suggested as well. CMD/Ctrl + H to show/hide toggle.

• HOW TO:  Copy and Paste THE Filename AND its PATH from Finder

HOW TO DO THIS: Copy and Paste THE selected Filename AND its entire PATH from Finder to another application as in document footer reference, or document database which has a path field to aid in locating the file later.
Finder, Spotlight and File Info (can be used to display Path) or using Command F, command I, etc. but user is not allowed to copy the path to clipboard.
This is rudimentary, yet the word Path, is unknown to Mac Help.

its tedious, but this should work:
open a terminal window.
Drag and drop the icon for the file in the terminal
window.
This will put the full path including the filename on
the command line.
Copy the path from the command line, and paste

• How do I change the color of the clipping path in CS5

Just installed Photoshop CS5 I use the pen to create a clipping path for isolation. In CS4 the path line always contrasted with the background I was working on. In CS5 it is only gray so I cannot work on grey background pics as I cannot see the path. How can I change it back to multi colored like CS4?
In CS4 I could change between gray & colored by enabling or disabling OpenGL Drawing from Edit->Preferences->Performance. This does not work for me in CS5. I really need the color as I am isolating a dark gray bike againsr a lighter gray wall. I keep loosing the curve handles against the wall.

Which means that the wall isn't neutral gray, it has some color in it. Anyway, that's beside the point. In CS5 they've changed the way they display paths when OpenGL is turned off (probably changed to another API behind the scenes) which caused these problems. If i've understood it correctly, this isn't a bug per se, it's just a limitation of the API that they're using now (lack of blend modes or some such).
If you want the old way back then you can try making a feature request/bug report here: https://www.adobe.com/go/wish

• Where did color go on paths in CS4?

This under Mac OS X Leopard, 10.5.5.
I was
really hoping that Adobe would bring back color to the precise cursors in CS4. Makes it much easier when you're doing a lot of paths to both keep track of the cursor and place it more accurately for your next anchor point. The varying gray colors can literally disappear depending on what pixel values they're over.
What happens instead? Color is
removed from the anchor points and segments! Now it's difficult to see both the cursor
and your path against the image. Why on Earth did Adobe do this?
Please, PLEASE, bring back color to these functions!!!

Okay, that's what I get for griping before trying a few more things (just installed the CS4 Creative Suite yesterday). The above information is only partially correct.
You do get color on path segments and anchor points, but they very between highly contrasted to almost invisible. Over white or yellow, they change to black. No problem there. Over a rich red, they turn kind of a salmon color. Not bad. But over a rich cyan or green, the colors are only a shade or two darker or lighter, depending on the color of the underlying pixels, making it difficult to see the path.
Second, you
can make PS CS4 display paths in the old color contrasting scheme, but you must turn off Open GL Drawing in the preferences to do so. Which of course makes some things, like the Rotate View Tool inaccessible.
The cursor, no matter what settings you choose, still remains only black, white, or shades of gray. Ick!

• Cyan (no red channel) Display

External display has stopped (intermitently) showing red, effect is that everything has a very heavy cyan cast. I've checked the monitor, cable and adapter with another macbook; the problem isn't there.
Full color returned for a day and just popped off again. There were no big shakes on the desk, so if it is an internal broken connection its a tiny one. What could be causing this?  What can I check?
I've already done the sleep, reset, powerdown, SMC reset

It looks like a late 2006 model, but with 1 gig of ram.
I'm using the dvi to vga adapter that came with. All the pins are fine.
I don't think the problem is hardware related. When the screen flashes, when I'm changing the display path, the colors seem to normalize for a moment.

Spotlight lists items and shows preview images.  BUT what about showing the path/location address of an item in my computer.
Especially important if I've put the item in the wrong folder and what to locate it without multi-steps. iMac OS X 10.5 was more useful.
Old OSX Spotlight function automatically displayed path/location within the machine:  e.g. desktop/folder/sub-folder/item.
Can I make Spotlight show the path?

Press option-command and the path is displayed at the bottom of the little preview window.  Press command-return and the enclosing folder opens.

• Cannot Update Decimal Places in General Settings

When I try to update the decimal points in the Administration > System Initialization > General Settings > Display path, SAP B1 gives me the following error:
"Cannot update while another user is connected to the company."
I am the only one on the system as "manager" with "Super User" and "Full Authorization"...
The SAP B1 Guide titled "How to Make Initial Setting in Business One - US" says "you can change these settings at any time".
QUESTION:  What might be stopping this change, and more importantly, how do I get around this error to be able to change the decimal points?
Thanks all - Zal

Hi Zal,
I agree with you about the strange messaging used by SAP.
But blocking the possibility to decrease the decimal places is extremely important.
Suppose you have inserted a sales document with two items in this way:
Item 1 ___Qty 1,234  ___Unit price 1,22  ___Line total  1,51
Item 2 ___Qty  5,756 ___Unit price 3,15  ___Line total 18,13
____Document total 19,64
Then, someone wants to change the number of decimal places of the quantity from 3 to 2.
What happens would be:
Item 1 ___Qty 1,23  ___Unit price 1,22  ___Line total  1,51
Item 2 ___Qty  5,75 ___Unit price 3,15  ___Line total 18,13
____Document total 19,64
If you try to do the calculations manually you will see that the results are not correct. In fact all the document would have to change in:
Item 1 ___Qty 1,23  ___Unit price 1,22  ___Line total  1,50
Item 2 ___Qty  5,75 ___Unit price 3,15  ___Line total 18,11
____Document total 19,61
Also if the document total will show correct (in the case of rounding the second decimal position of item 2), the totals of any line is wrong. In fact there is no recalculation at all in SAP (and must not be done).
Imagine such a modification over thousand of documents and all of the descendants (mainly if the have lead to printouts - as say confirmations - sent to customers or vendors).
None of the economic figures will match.
