Display photo details on iPod Classic?

Using: iPod Classic v2.0.1, iTunes v10.1.2.17, Windows XP.
Is there a way to display any photo details on the iPod Classic? Specifically, I would like to display a caption (either from some EXIF field or from the .jpg file's Properties dialog) or at least display the original .jpg filename.
I want to be able to call up the details/caption for the photo that I'm currently viewing. The information does not have to automatically appear over the bottom of the image (but that would be a nice setting to be able to enable!).
Note: I do not want to create a video slideshow.

Yes, but not without the help of 3rd Party applications from the App store.

JPEG photos are compatible with your device. As long as these images are in the same folder as your pictures, then they should sync. Below, I have included a couple articles that show you how to sync this data to your iPod.

How to I copy photos from my ipod classic back onto my pc? My hardrive recently crashed and the photos on my ipod are the only copies I have! The photos were synced onto th ipod originally - not saved or copied as file transfer.

See Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device. I'm not sure which of the recovery tools can do photos offhand, but unless you chose the option to include full res. originals when you loaded the device then what they extract will be fairly low res. If you did opt for full res. then they should be visible on the iPod's drive when viewed in disk mode.

Photos display from Notes with iPod Classic, but not Nano

I have created links to 5 small .jpg photos in a single Notes file in an iPod Classic, and each link and photo works and displays just fine. However, when I use the same file and photos on a Nano, (copied the exact same file structure and content from the iPod Classic) the links work, but the photo displays as a blank white screen with "Oya" displayed in the upper left hand corner.
Any idea what causes the "Oya" error message to be displayed?

Try this:
Use the click wheel on the ipod
Go to the Menu >> scroll through the Settings >> on my iPod nano 3 gen I can change the settings for Shuffle & Repeat >> On or Off. Skip is not available.
May be on your iPod in the menu you could change the Skip >> On or Off.

I can't sync photos to my Ipod Classic...help?

I've just got a new Ipod Classic and I can sync songs and Podcasts OK, but I can't sync any photos. The "sync" symbol looks active when I'm sending the photos over, but when I check my Ipod later...nothing at all!!! It's driving me nuts...suggestions anyone?

I had the same Problem, very frustrating until you realize what it was. My simple fix was!
On your IPOD go to
Settings
Main Menu
Photos (probably set to off)
Turn ON

Has anyone found a way to transfer photos to a 6th gen ipod classic?
I've tried gpixpod, gtkpod and the kipi photo export...none of those seem to support the newer ipods.
Google isnt turning up much so I was hoping someone had some luck with this...

You can do that (in a useable form) only if you had a particular setting enabled when you synced the photos to the iPod. To find this setting, select the iPod in the iTunes sidebar, under DEVICES. Over to the right, go to the Photos tab. On that screen, there is a checkbox that says Include full-resolution photos. IF that checkbox was checked when you synced the photos to the iPod, they are stored separately on the iPod as individual image files. You just need to Enable disk use (on the iPod's Summary tab), and use Finder to open the iPod's "disk." The image files are in a folder called Photos.
If that checkbox was not checked, the photos on iPod only exist in an optimized format to fit the small iPod screen and they are stored in a special "database" file (to save as much storage space as possible on iPod). Therefore, they are not in a format that is directly usable, and they are low resolution, so even if they were extracted (using a third-party utility), they would look highly pixelated when enlarged to computer screen size.

I can't see photos on my iPod classic

My PC crashed and I was trying to copy photos from iPod classic back to PC, however the photos now appear as black squares on the iPod.

This was my biggest problem when I got my first iPod (30GB 5thGen)... I thought that video's would just sync straight on there no probs, was I ever more wrong...
I got over this hurdle a few way's....
Mac: For mac you can download mediafork or handbrake, they will both convert dvd's and sum other files straight to iPod format... (although these take a while)... On a rare occasion I have got iMovie or similar,(depending on version of MAC), all you have to do is export as a Mp4...
Windows: Mediafork and handbrake both work gud,(but they take sum time), the one I found the best was Nero recode... It converts the video files "all" into .Mp4 ready for iPod viewing, it also puts your video's straight onto your iPod if connected...
There are sum other free converter's that will work gud, but the best ones are the ones you pay for... (unfortunately)

I have been asking everywhere and find it ridiculous that I am not able to pull off my own photo's from my Ipod classic and get them back to Iphoto or Itunes!! My hard drive on Mac book pro crashed and I lost all data but have it all saved on my ipod.

I am trying to download photos from my iPod to either an external hard drive or my computer, which has a Windows operating system. The iPod should function like an external hard drive, right? iTunes syncing to iPods (that are not iPod touch) mostly goes one way, from computer to iPod. For photos, at the time you synced the photos to the iPod, there is a setting that you needed to have enabled in iTunes if you later want to recover them from the iPod. This setting is on the iPod's Photos tab in iTunes (where you set up photo syncing). There is a checkbox for Include full-resolution photos.
IF that checkbox was checked, you can Enable disk use on the iPod's Summary tab, and find the full-res photo files in the Photos folder on the iPod. Otherwise (if setting not checked), when iTunes syncs the photos to the iPod, iTunes converts the images to a very low-resolution version that is optimized to fit the small iPod screen and stores the image data in a single database file (to save storage space). There may be third-party software that can extract separate photos from that database file, but the resulting photos will look bad blown up to computer screen size.

It happens on some photos in my iPod, they can be viewed as normal pictures by clicking the centre button, but the thumbnail are corrupted.
I've already tried to restore the iPod, which is no good. All pictures were synchronised from iPhoto.

Make sure that all your software (iTunes, iPhoto, and the software on the iPod) is up-to-date.
Then, go through the restore process once more...
Restore iPod
Everything should be deleted off the iPod, and don't put the pictures back on yet. Uncheck the option to synchronize pictures. Let the iPod update with all of your music and eject it when it's done.
Now, go back and reconnect the iPod and put the pics on. See if they load properly.
Finally, does everything work okay in iPhoto? Are there any errors, weird messages when syncing w/ iTunes, etc.?

I haven't tried putting photos on my ipod yet. but I wanted to see how they look on it.
I only have iphoto 2.0. I also have photoshop elements 3.0. would it be best for me to upgrade the iphoto?
