Display photo for MSN.

Can anyone help me...For some reason I am unable to add a display picture to my msn account. It says that the picture format is wrong, even though the format is the smallest possible.
Additionally, I can't even put in one of the standard display pictures. For one reason or another my mac wont register when I press the accept button.

In this case the Format of the file may be the file type - jpeg, png or gif for instance - but it might also be the file size or the aspect ratio - landscape or protrait. Unfortunately, until we know what they require there’s not a lot we can do.
Also, it won't, as I said above, not accept if I press ok for one of the standard pictures. It's as if it doesn't register me pressing the key.
Try in a different web browser.

  • Looking for iPad App for displaying photos via a projector

I'm looking for an App that will allow me to display photos using a projector yet permit manual advancing through the slides.
The included Photo app only works with the projector when in slideshow mode. As soon as I try to manually advance a photo the projector output stops.
I've seen references to Keynote but I'd rather not have to import 'x' number of photos into Keynote to be able to display them. I'm not convinced Keynote will do what I want anyway.
There's got to be an app out there somewhere that does this. Isn't there?
    Thanks.

Locking the iPad so that a user can't exit an app isn't possible for any developer to implement, since the developer kit doesn't provide that sort of access to the low-level routines in iOS. The only way to lock into a single app is to use a case/frame that covers the Home button (and turn off the gesture support in the settings in iOS 5).  A number of companies make kiosk mounts for this purpose.
    Regards.

Exporting photos for UHDTV or Native 4K TV, what are the best settings ? (File: Quality File: Color Space, Image Sizing and resolution)   Or in other words; How can I get the smallest files but keep good quality for display on new UHDTV

You're welcome, and thank you for the reply.
    2) Yesterday I made the subclips with the In-Out Points and Command-U, the benefit is that I've seen the clip before naming it. Now I'm using markers, it's benefit is that I can write comment and (the later) clip name at once, the drawback is that I have to view to the next shot's beginning before knowing what the shot contains.
But now I found out that I can reconnect my clips independently to the format I converted the master clip to. I reconnected the media to the original AVI file and it worked, too! The more I work with, the more I'm sold on it... - although it doesn't seem to be able to read and use the date information within the DV AVI.
    1) Ok, I tried something similar within FCE. Just worked, but the file size still remains. Which codec settings should I use? Is the export to DV in MOV with a quality of 75% acceptable for both file size and quality? Or would be encoding as H.264 with best quality an option for archiving, knowing that I have to convert it back to DV if I (maybe) wan't to use it for editing later? Or anything else?
    Thank's in advance again,
    André

  • What is the ideal size and resolution of a photo for display on the iPad?

I'm finding no info on the size of a photo for the best possible display on the iPad.  The screen is obviously much larger than iPod Touch or iPhone; photos sized for them are fuzzy on the iPad.  Ideally, a photo should be sized for the exact number of pixels on the iPad screen.  Can anyone help me here?  Thanks!

This is done automatically via the iTunes sync/transfer process - photos are optimized for viewing on the iPad, and there is not an option to change the default optimization settings.

  • Apple TV - No cigar for displaying photo's.

I am disappointed and frustrated by the new Apple TV facility to display photo's.
My photo's are stored on my computer in Nikon RAW format (NEF) I don't want to have to convert them to JPEG's just to do a photo session on the TV. I would also end up with two copies of every shot which is a real pain. If google picasa can display raw images why not apple TV and iTunes.
Also I can understand only having 720p for movies. (1080p/i would need to much broadband bandwidth.) But for displaying pictures which are only coming from a PC or MAC I would really want 1080p to make my photo's really shout at people.

With the old sync model I'd have to disagree - AppleTV would output to devices up to 1080p, so there was little point having video dimensions much beyond 1920x1080ish (non standard for any DSLR or digicam ) except to accomodate zooming/Ken Burns effects.
There was also little point sending 10-20MB files to AppleTV's limited storage when a JPEG would suffice.
With the new streaming model however this changes - itunes should be able to accomnodate RAW file streaming as nothing actually gets stored - it need not send the original RAW only a derivative. Th eonly problem is that for on the fly conversion, many RAW files would choke iTunes in the process, so what it needs is to pre-render the derivative file transparently to the user well in advance of needing to use it.
Personally I see no point in having true native RAW support on AppleTV.
AppleTV should really be used to show either the procesed RAW file content or an as shot derivative.
Assuming RAW display capability would give superior results is wrong.
The RAW file is the starting point, the digital negative, the derivative processed file is the final output.

  • Image quality for displaying photos

I like to use my Apple TV (3rd gen) for displaying photos taken with a variety of devices - Fuji X100s, iPhone 5, Nikon d7000. The output from these devices looks great on my 3Gen iPad but quite a bit less so on the 1080p Samsung tv, they almost look a little pixelated. On the other hand, Apples stock screen saver photos look great on the same tv.
I don't believe that my cameras don't take good enough jpg's to display well and have concluded that Apple may be doing something to their photos that I haven't figured out.
    Any suggestions?

Not all my photos are great to begin with, many are taken in poor lighting conditions, but the good photos are equally as good as the stock photography.

My Word files are corrupted. When I open 'Get Info' then 'More Info' I find 'Photos for Personal Use or Home Display' and 'Authors' : Technology. - Nothing to do with the file I'd just written. My most recent files can't be saved or opened.
Is this Malware or some other kind of attack?  I grabbed photos yesterday from what seem to be freely available pictures online.  I discovered Firevault and Firewall were both turned off. (I hadn't checked before.)  Any suggestions?

Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start
with Option #4 and then #1 as needed.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Will it display photos while watching for mail?

Will I be able to setup an ipod touch to display photos (one after the other, like a screen saver) and also in the background monitor for new mail and create a visual or audio alert when mail arrives? It would be connected to a wifi network of course...
Thanks for any info, as well as what applications might do this sort of thing.

I used to have this same issue, the problem was I had the incorrect incoming mail server port (it still worked but once I changed that port # never had the freeze up issue again).
Go into Settings-Mail-your account and see what incoming server port you have listed. Then call your email server and ask what the correct ports should be in both incoming and outgoing. Also ask if you should have SSL on or off, they should have a form already filled out for all of the correct settings to use their e mail with an iphone.
Also, you say you have powered off the iphone. Have you done a hard reset?
    Hope this helps.

  • 'Live' Display Picutre for IM apps possible with iSight?

I'm about a week away from becoming the proud owner of a Macbook, and can't wait! Anyway, I just had an idea for a great, fun iSight application, and wanted to see whether there was any way to do it already available.
Basically, I'm an MSN user, and don't have any friends on other IM networks (it's pretty much the only one the majority of people in the UK use) so I'll probably be using MSN messenger on my Mac. What I wanted was, a program that woudld automatically take your photo at the beginning of a messaging session, or say, once every day, and then automatically set it as your IM display picture, overwriting the previous session's photograph. This would be a good feature, I feel, as people would be able to see the exact image of the friend they're talking to as they looked right then, with a new haircut or clothes or location. Obviously, you could just take your own photo every day and set it as your display pic, but that sounds like more effort than I'm comfortable with!
So does anybody know of a program that will do this already? Or if not, does anybody know how to write one that will?! I'm a complete n00vice at programming, so no chance I can just do it myself, although I would lend a hand where I could. Here's one more possible application for a program like this, just to get your imaginations going... Imagine if you could set the program not to overwrite the previous photo, but to archive them, using the date as a filename, and taking a photograph of you in the same position every day, which you could then make into an animation showing your 'evolution' over time?! I think it'd look quite good!

    Hello, peanutismint
Welcome to Apple Discussions, and congratulations on your new MacBook!
I want to add my comments to Ralph's good suggestions.
So does anybody know of a program that will do this already?
Or if not, does anybody know how to write one that will?
I don't have a programming answer for this question, but you may be able to use Automator or AppleScript with your Mac's bundled applications to approximate the function you want. Automator will be simpler, but it may not let you do as much as you can with AppleScript.
Once you get your Mac, if Automator will not do what you want, you can check AppleScript's Dictionary (Script Editor > File > Open Dictionary) to see which applications might be scriptable for the functions you want to use.
You might want to search in the Automator Forum or the AppleScript Forum to see if you can find sample workflow suggestions or other useful ideas related to your automatic image capture idea.
If you want to consider making your application for distribution, you can get a head start on the professional use of Automator or AppleScript in the Apple Developer Connection.

Now for a bit about "MSN" with Mac.
The version of Microsoft (formerly MSN) Messenger that MS offers for Mac (MSM) is a text only application.
If you want to use your iSight for video with PC friends using MSN or Windows Live Messenger, here are a couple of alternative clients of the MSM server that allow Mac video (but no audio) chat with PC users of Microsoft/MSN/Live Messenger:
    Mercury Messenger for Mac and
    aMSN for Mac OS X
If you search iSight Discussions for "msn messenger" (without the quotation marks,) you will find other suggestions that might be of interest. Here are a couple of examples:

    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=4279087&#4279087
If you do not want to personally undertake the programming work for your automatic image capture idea but still want to suggest it to those working with "MSN" compatible software, you can offer suggestions for aMSN at the aMSN Forum or for Mercury Messenger via Mercury's Contact info.
    Enjoy your new MacBook!

Using Azul media player app on my ipad  Apple tv will only display sound but not video from movies.  Any ideas on a fix.  I set mirroring to on but it still does not display video.  It will display photos and video recorded from my iphone.

Here are the steps for AirPlay:
Before starting Azul from your (running iOS 5.x/6.x) home screen where have have all your apps we need to turn on mirroring
On your iPhone 4S/5 or iPad 2 or 3, double-click the Home  Button to view your recently-used apps.
Swipe all the way to the right to until you see the  icon.
Note: If the icon does not appear, go to the "If AirPlay Mirroring is not visible or available on your mobile iOS device" section.
Tap the  icon to see the list of available AirPlay devices.
Enable AirPlay Mirroring in this menu by tapping on an available Apple TV, then sliding the Mirroring slider to ON.
Now you should be seeing your iPad/iPhone on your TV.
Start up Azul now and using the settings icon on the top right corner go to the option that say "TV out" ON.
When you do that you will see an Orange screen
Now click "Done" and play the video you want to watch and it will AirPlay

  • A few questions re displaying photos (Am I missing something?)

I am a Windows XP user with a brand new AppleTV. I'm generally happy with it but am not impressed with the way it handles photos. Am I mistaken or is there no way to do the following?
    - View subfolders of photos individually (it would seem not, based on others posts here.)
    - View a slideshow that spans more than one folder.
    - Set up a selective slideshow in advance (like a music playlist.)
    - View thumbnails of the images in a folder, and go directly to the one I want to see.
    - Jump ahead several photos in a folder instead of having to page through every single one.
    - Zoom in on a portion of a photo that I have paused.
    - Browse photos from the hard disk without syncing them.
    - View photos by metada (EXIF tags, maybe.)
I know some of the above are a bit of a stretch, but others seem pretty straightforward. Is it really so hard to display a page of thumbnails? My cheap digital camera does it when I hook it up to my TV. Am I missing some way to do any of the above? What are the odds Apple will enable them in a future update? Thanks.

I totally agree with regard to the Auto/Advanced modes. Maybe the entire idea of streaming/browsing photos from the HD could be buried in the Advanced mode and hence never be an issue for those who want to retain the interface's initial simplicity.
It seems like looping could be added so easily. I used to keep my photos in folders arranged by year (2008), containing subfolders of months (2008_01, 2008_02, etc.) which in turned contained subfolders for each day (20080101, 20080102, etc.) I wanted to be able to view each day's folder individually through AppleTV, so I have moved all the individual "daily" folders into the My Photos root level. This is all well and good (except that scrolling through that many folders is a little clunky*), but it also means that no slideshow can display photos from more than a single day. Adding one option -- "Slideshows span folders: Yes/No" would solve that problem and make it much for flexible for me (and others, I presume.)
I know, I know, I am attempting to use the device for purposes for which it was not intended. Still, it's a fun little box, especially for the price (and who knew I'd get such a kick out of watching YouTube on my tv?)
On the other hand, whoever incorporated the 24-hour limitation for watching an entire rented movie must live in a household without little children around, but that's a subject for another thread.
*Here's a crazy idea: Maybe the basic "Auto" version of the AppleTV should remain exactly as it is, and the full-featured "Advanced" mode require the purchase of an optional advanced remote control that incorporates the famed iPod clickwheel for scrolling quickly through subfolders and/or very long lists of folders?

  • Lync 2013 Display photos do no display correctly internally

Hey guys, really need some help with this one so I will provide as much detail as possible (sorry for the lengthy post):
We have Lync 2013, Exchange 2010 and AD is at a 2003 functional level.
We are experiencing issues where Lync photos are not updating correctly in the internal clients. I have checked the pre-reqs; Replicate this attribute to the Global Catalog
is set for the ThumbnailPhoto attribute. We are also forcing photos from AD only (or no photo) by setting the following:
    "Set-CsClientPolicy -Identity PhotosControl -DisplayPhoto PhotosFromADOnly"
and finally we are setting the photo in ad using this PS command:
"Import-RecipientDataProperty -Identity "Test User" -Picture -FileData ([Byte[]]$(Get-Content -Path "C:\pictures\testuser.jpg" -Encoding Byte -ReadCount 0))"
The pictures being uploaded are under 10KB in size. The initial upload of a photo for a user (IE: a new user that doesn't already have a photo) will generally be displayed in both Outlook and Lync within 24 hours. When we try to update a photo for a user who
already has a photo it updates within Outlook but never updates on Lync clients. I have also manually tried running the "Update-CsAddressBook" command from Lync and waiting 24hours + but the photo will not update in Lync client. Another interesting
thing I've found, anyone who set up their Lync in last month or two do not see their OWN photo within Lync (it just shows the default gray/white man) both in the main window and the chat although others can see it.
I was able to find that on our Lync file store, the cached contacts/photos are being updated daily (as expected) and actually contain the correct photos. I confirmed this be using abserver.exe on the .lsabs file and then locating the contactID for a few users
I know are not updating properly. Once I have their contact ID I simply look for their .photo file in the cached files, copy it out to a different location and change it to a .jpeg. To my surprise the photos are actually the correctly updated ones, so why
are these no getting to the users/clients? I have gone through and deleted my local cache folder as well as the registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Lync but unfortunately no change on my Client.
Another piece of the puzzle; We just implemented a Reverse Proxy to handle mobility with Lync. During my testing I did get Lync client for android running and low and behold the pictures are actually correct on my mobile device!!
We are planning to upgrade Exchange from 2010 to 2013 and I hoping that leveraging the Hi-Def photo capabilities for Lync 2013 with Exchange 2013 may fix this issue but I would rather try to get it resolved then hope for the best.

  • How do I remove the black background when displaying photos in iphoto 8

After upgrading to iphoto 8 my photos now sit on a black background when viewed from album, library or events. I have changed the slider from black to white in Preferences/Appearance but it only changes the display background for when the thumbnails are shown. The moment I click on a photo it displays at full size with an annoying black background. In previous versions it displays with a grey or white background.
Can anyone help with some advice before I reinstall iphot0 6. Thanks

    wordleader:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. For the background in albums and in the Photos window use the Background slider in iPhoto's Appearance preference pane. In the Events window where you see the square events you can't change the background color.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
