Display Port - 50" Full HD Plasma, what adapter?

I have this 50" TV, and ofc I want to hook it up with the MB, but how to do it?
There is two adapters:
Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter.
"....DVI adapter lets you connect an advanced digital monitor, such as the 20- or 23-inch Apple Cinema Display, that uses DVI video"
That one, and then this:
Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter.
"....Use the Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI to connect to a 30-inch display"
- This really confuses me, does the single DVI adapter not support bigger screens, or how to understand this?

It's not the physical size of the screen that's an issue (30" vs. 50") but rather an issue of the resolution of the screen. I'm assuming your TV is an HDTV and, if so, the resolution is probably 1920 x 1080. The previous model MacBook supported up to 1920 x 1200 on an external screen with the DVI adapter and the new MacBook's video card supports the 30" Apple displays at 2560 x 1600. You'll have to tell us what kind of video inputs your TV has before we can figure out what adapters and cables you'll need. But the MacBook should support your TV's resolution even though it's physically bigger than 30".

Display port on 15" 2013 Retina - what does it send out?
OK, seems others are having this issue, but I'm not sure any of the solutions explain what the issue really is, and what is making it happen. Here goes:
15" Retina (2 weeks old)
Dell Ultrasharp U2713H 27" monitor (2560 x 1440)
So, HDMI (X), DVI (X), Display Port to mini display port (X), Dual Link DVI to Dual Link DVI adaptor mini display port (Y)
The only way I can get native 2560 res is through the (AUS$120) Dual Link DVI adaptor to mini display port - which ***** cause it is ugly, messy, and uses usb2 (which it needs for power), and the laptop and screen use usb3 (flash cards, camera cards, HD connections etc).
Before I used the Dual Link DVI adaptor, I tried a whole lot of options:
Non retina display - Display port to mini display port - no problem, native looks great
13" retina macbook pro - display port to mini display port - no problem, native looks great (the 13" retina is actually 2560 x 1440 - so same as the monitor)
Several other 15" retinas - same as mine
(I work at a uni, so lots of gear around).
So, my question is this:
Why does the Display port to mini display port not work off a 15" retina? (it runs the res, but it looks like really bad jpeg compression)...Some issues - particularly screen image retention - seem to be remaining in the current builds of the rMBP. If I were you, I would purchase a non-Retina at this time and possibly wait for a 2nd generation Retina machine to come out later in the year that may not have the IR problems - if you want to get educational pricing before April.
Just too many issues with the rMBP at this time for me... I can wait.

Macbook Pro with Retina wont detect monitor on mini display port to dual-link dvi adapter
So after reading Jeff Atwood's post, I decided to jump and give it a shot. So this week I got my monitor in from Korea, and I already had my Apple mini display port to dual-link dvi adapter, hooked everything up - and nothing. Monitor doesnt show a signal, and no display shows up in user preferences.
To verify the monitor actually works, i plugged it into my windows box - and boom, right away there it is in all its glory. So I called apple support, after spending about an hour going through the "are you sure its plugged in stuff", the tech finally admitted to being stumped and blamed the adapter. Not to be deterred, I then went to my local apple store and talked them into trying their adapter to rule out the adapter - regardless of the adapter, the mbp wont detect the monitor.
Just for fun, i tried my old single mini displayport to single dvi, the monitor is recognized, but that obviously cant drive the right resolution, so i just get a backlight. Same deal when i try the hdmi port with a hdmi to dual-link dvi adapter on the end of it. Also tried display port to the same hdmi with adapter on it (the joys of working in a dev shop - cables to test everywhere)
I have read / tried a ton of things:
re-installed / uninstalled air display, just to be sure it was gone. went through all my apps just to see if there is anything like this i could think would be effecting it
install gfxCardStatus to ensure i am on the nvidia (discrete) and not the internal card
Played with different settings on SwitchResX to try to force the res over hdmi - no love - os rejected each one
I bought the monoprice adapter wondering if it was just the apple adapter since the apple adapter has been panned, no love from it either
Reset the PRAM countless times
I have two other adapters coming in to test with in a day or two - maybe one of those will be magic, but at this point i kinda think its software on the mac. My Spec:
I am running Mountain Lion with all the latest updates
New MBP with Retina (2.6g processor, 16gig ram, nvidia video card)

Now the other weird thing is pretty much universally these auctions say the monitors cant be run on a laptop - which makes no sense to me, because its just a connection, if the video card is strong enough (which my machine better be) it shouldnt matter the source. The listing mentions its a "by-pass" monitor, which is something I and google have never heard of.
So any sage words to make my day?Magic was, I have to have the adpter plugged into the mac, let it recognize all with the monitor powered off.

I have just connected my MacBook to my TV with a mini Display port to DVI Adapter which was connected ta HDMI to DVI Video Cable which I connected to my TV. I turned my TV on and my TV could not find any signal. I used the TV menu to connect to HDMI , but it said there was no signal. I Just bought a new 13" Macbook air and want to add 2 external monitors. Am wondering if the Minin Display Port to Dual Link DVI adapter will work. If not is there any other solution to add 2 external monitors to a MacBook Air?

Will my Airbook (11" late 2010) w/ NVIDIA GeFORCE 320M 256MB using the Mini Display Port to Dual-Link DVI Adapter support the Dell 3007WFHC (30") monitor at full resolution (2560X1600).

The MacBook Air 11 inch late-2010 model does support 2560 x 1600 resolution on an external display. See this specifications article for reference -

Can any of you advise on the below? Tried to connect Mac mini with a 30" display through a DVI dual link mini display port adapter. For the first try Mac mini go connected to the display, then i've chosen the highest resolution (2560x1600, native) and right at that moment they got disconected. Since then the display stays black. What can be the issue, is it possible DVI dual link mini display port adapter is not compatible with 30"display (LG W3000H)? It works with DVI male-male cable plus DVI HDMI adapter as long as the resolution stays under 1280x800. Any idea is much appreciated.

I can report that my Mac Mini Intel Duo connected instantly and without even having to set it up (on the first try) with my 1366x768 native resolution DELL 50" Plasma Display. It's so beautiful that I just want to stand there and fondle my HDTV as I drool haplessly like Homer Simpson with a doughnut in his mouth. Seriously, no problems.... guess I bought the right cable (ebay).
Before you buy a Duo, make sure you're aware of the airport and bluetooth issues that so many (maybe everyone who tries to use them together) are having. It seems that bluetooth interferes with airport, or maybe the other way around. Anyway, it's messed up. Also, Airport reception is generally VERY poor with the new Intel Mac Mini.
Despite these things, I still love mine (I now have 2 base stations and an airport express for my powerhouse wireless needs, and an external DLink bluetooth-2-USB dongle solved the bluetooth/airport issues... in my case).

What do I need to connect my late 2009 Mac book (mini display port) to the TV and get sound?
I'm totally confused!
I have a late 2009 model Macbook. And I want to connect it to my TV.
So my research has led to believing I need a Mini display port adapter and a HDMI cable - but from some of what I have read, this won't carry sound...
Can anyone clarify this and what I do actually need?The Mini DisplayPort to HDMI doesn't carry audio unless you have the Mid 2010 model 7,1 and there're no audio plugs on most TVs to work with HDMI since it's expecting audio with theHDMI.
If you have the Late 2009 model 6,1 White Unibody with the MiniDisplay Port there is an adapter that can combine video and audio to HDMI.

How do I use a VGA adapter with my MacBook Air when it has no mini display port?
I bought this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200968578311 to connect my MacBook Air to a monitor but it only works in a mini display port instead, and my MacBook Air doesn't have one. What kind of adapter can I buy instead? It looks like lots of adapters are wrongly described on eBay as fitting all Macs when they don't Help gratefully received!!
If your computer has a Thunderbolt port, plug it in. Otherwise, check what type of display port your computer has and get an adapter for it.

I have a MacAir, mid 2011 model, and want to view video on my TV. I see that I need a mini display port to Hdmi but there are many of these. What exatly do I need and how does one go about viewing a movie downloaded to the MacAir on a TV screen?

This is the only way to view a video on the TV. After connecting your MacBook Air to the TV, image on your TV should show immediately. Then, press Command and F1 keys to mirror your MacBook Air display, and open the video -
I have a Macbook pro 13.3 w/ i5 that has no hdmi port. I want to be able to connect the Mac to my TV set to watch Video, Photos and files from Mac to TV.
Is the Thunderbolt port similar to a display port or mini display port? Can I use thunderbolt port to connect thru a mini displayport to HDMI cable or converter?

Mini Display Port to VGA adapter + Monitor Eizo s2231W = CRASH
I purchased a new macbook pro last month with 2 adapters, one for VGA the other for DVI. I'm having some trouble with the Mini-DVI to VGA adapter. The Mini Display Port to DVI adapter works well.
When I attach the VGA adapter to the monitor it works well for a couple of minutes, then I dont know why my MBP crashes and I can see a purple or white screen. The crash is really a crash... cauz I cant do anything. My mac is frozen and the only way to resuscitate him is to keep pressed the power button for a while till it turns off, and then turn it on again.
You can say... why do you need the VGA if the DVI works...
the problem is that I'm probably supposed to use it one day attached to a projector because of a presentation at university.
So I dont wanna see my new macbook pro freezing in front of my professor.
please help.

My hardware configuration as regard the graphic chipset is
NVIDIA GeForce 320M
The resolution of the external monitor is 1620x1080
I'M NOT using the mirroring ( but the desktop extension)I had the exact same problem. It actually escalated from there and it would crash at the startup screen (the white one with the apple and the spinning gear). The only way I was able to fix this was to reformat the entire computer. I was lucky enough to have backed up all my data when it first started crashing. I've only reformatted yesterday and things seem fine for now. I don't know what caused it, or how to fix the problem any other way.
