Display port black&white T420

hai,
My T420 just recently came up with only giving a black and white picture to my samsung flat tv.
I don't know why, since it worked fine before.
I connect the laptop-tv via a DisplayPort--HDMI cable.
do you know how to fix this?
would be awesome!
cheers,
chris

Check in the NVIDIA or Intel graphics control panels under color adjustment. Sometimes Saturation (Digital Vibrance) gets set to zero.

        I unchecked 'Use grayscale' in

  • In the middle of start up my display flashes black white lines

I have a Mac Pro Quad dual core 2.66 processor, 14 gigs memory,1 tera,500 gig,360 gig hard drives
    OS X 10.6.8 update software download,then I installed it.
Then the computer stalled so I rebooted it...during the start up process it stopped and
the monitor has flashing black and white lines.I can't open the cd,or have control of the mouse or keyboard.
What can I do to fix this problem...?

what ever upgrade the software downloaded is the problem
You didn't mention this in your first post. Any idea what it was? Backups?
Besides that, this may be a fault in the video card, driver, or a screen fault.
    Courtesy of BDAqua (if possible):
Take a screen shot & view that in Preview, move the Preview window around, if you see double lines it's a Video card/VRAM problem, if the lines do not move moving the pic around then it's the LCD or cable.

  • My iPod displays black & white battery charge icon and sad iPod face. help!

I plugged my iPod into an older iMac; it froze and had to be restarted.
I restarted it and started listening on shuffle.
It would skip through all of my songs without me pressing any buttons.
I restarted again and it worked fine.
I came home and plugged it into my 10.3.9 iMac and the tracks started skiping and barely playing on iTunes.
I tried to eject it, but it wouldn't...so I unplugged it.
I then restarted it, but after the silver-on-black iMac icon came up, the sad iPod face showed.
So I pluged it back into the computer. It spontaniously restarted when I tried all of the steps of restarting and reinstalling.
Then it just displays a black& white old battery charge icon with a thunder bolt that flickers on the screen now and then.
And continues to restart itself with first the apple icon turning into the sad ipod face and then into the battery charge icon.
I really do not want to restore my iPod. I am hoping to keep my files but at this point, my future is bleak.
This happened last night. They said it might just be my battery so I kept it plugged in for about 10 hours. Nothing.
    What can I do?
    Please, please help.

    Hello,
If a sad iPod icon or an exclamation point and folder icon appears on your iPod’s screen, or with sounds of clicking or HD whirring, it is usually the sign of a hard drive problem and you have the power to do something about it now. Your silver bullet of resolving your iPod issue – is to restore your iPod to factory settings.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983
If you're having trouble, try these steps at different levels one at a time until the issue is resolved. These steps will often whip your iPod back into shape.
Make sure you do all the following “TRYs”
    A. Try to wait 30 minutes while iPod is charging.
    B. Try another FireWire or USB through Dock Connector cable.
    C. Try another FireWire or USB port on your computer .
    D. Try to disconnect all devices from your computer's FireWire and USB ports.
    E. Try to download and install the latest version of iPod software and iTunes
    http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
    F. Try these five steps (known as the five Rs) and it would conquer most iPod issues.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
    G. Try to put the iPod into Disk Mode if it fails to appear on the desktop
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
If none of these steps address the issue, you may need to go to Intermediate level listed below in logical order. Check from the top of the lists to see if that is what keeping iPod from appearing on your computer in order for doing the Restore.
    Intermediate Level
    A. Try to connect your iPod with another computer with the iPod updater pre-installed.
    B. Still can’t see your iPod, put it in Disk Mode and connect with a computer, instead of doing a Restore on iPod Updater. Go and format the iPod instead.
    For Mac computer
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iPod Updater and click “Restore”
    For Window computer
    Go to folder “My Computer”
Hope you can see your iPod there and right click on the iPod
Choose “Format”. Ensure the settings are at “Default” and that “Quick Format” is not checked
    Now select “Format”
Eject your iPod and do a Reset
Open the iPod Updater and click “Restore”
In case you do not manage to do a “Format” on a window computer, try to use some 3rd party disk utility software, e.g.“HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool”.

    C. Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. In many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. By the way, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.
    Tips
    a. It does not matter whether the format is completed or not, the key is to erase (or partly) the corrupted firmware files on the Hard Drive of the iPod. After that, when the iPod re-connected with a computer, it will be recognized as an fresh external hard drive, it will show up on the iPod updater.
    b. It is not a difficult issue for a Mac user to find a window base computer, for a PC user, if they can’t find any Mac user, they can go to a nearest Apple Shop for a favor.
    c. You may need to switch around the PC and Mac, try to do several attempts between “Format” and “Restore”

    Advance Level
    A. Diagnostic mode solution
If you have tried trouble shooting your iPod to no avail after all the steps above, chances are your iPod has a hardware problem. The iPod's built-in Diagnostic Mode is a quick and easy way to determine if you have a "bad" iPod.
You need to restart your iPod before putting it into Diagnostic Mode. Check that your hold switch is off by sliding the switch away from the headphone jack. Toggle it on and off to be safe.
Press and hold the following combination of buttons simultaneously for approximately 10 seconds to reset the iPod.
    iPod 1G to 3G: "Menu" and "Play/Pause"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Menu" and "Select"
The Apple logo will appear and you should feel the hard drive spinning up. Press and hold the following sequence of buttons:
iPod 1G to 3G: "REW", "FFW" and "Select"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Back" and "Select"
You will hear an audible chirp sound (3G models and higher) and the Apple logo should appear backwards. You are now in Diagnostic Mode. Navigate the list of tests using "REW" and "FFW". The scroll wheel will not function while in diagnostic mode. For further details on Diagnostic mode can be found at http://www.methodshop.com/mp3/ipodsupport/diagnosticmode/
Try to do the 5in1, HDD R/W and HDD scan tests. Some successful cases have been reported after the running the few tests under the Diagnostic mode. In case it does not work in your case, and the scan tests reports show some errors then it proves your iPod has a hardware problem and it needs a repairing service.
    B. Format your iPod with a start disk
I have not tried this solution myself, I heard that there were few successful cases that the users managed to get their iPod (you must put your iPod in disk mode before connecting with a computer) mounted by the computer, which was booted by a system startup disk. For Mac, you can use the Disk Utility (on the Tiger OS system disk), for PC user, you can use the window OS system disk. Try to find a way to reformat your iPod, again it does not matter which format (FAT32, NTFS or HFS+) you choose, the key is to erase the corrupted system files on the iPod. Then eject your iPod and do a Reset to switch out from Disk Mode. Reboot your computer at the normal way, connect your iPod back with it, open the iPod updater, and hopefully your iPod will appear there for the Restore.
If none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired.
Consider setting up a mail-in repair for your iPod http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/
Or visit your local Apple Retail Store http://www.apple.com/retail/
In case your iPod is no longer covered by the warranty and you want to find a second repairing company, you can try iPodResQ at your own risk
    http://www.ipodresq.com/index.php
Just in case that you are at the following situation
    Your iPod warranty is expired
You don’t want to pay any service charges
You are prepared to buy a new one
You can’t accept the re-sell value of your broken iPod
Rather than leave your iPod as paper-weight or throw it away.
You can try the following, but again, only do it as your last resort and at your own risk.
Warning !!!! – It may or may not manage to solve your problem, and with a risk that you may further damage your iPod, which end up as an expensive paper weight or you need to pay more higher repairing cost. Therefore, please re-consider again whether you want to try the next level
    Last Resort Level
    1. . Disconnecting the Hard Drive and battery inside the iPod – Warning !! Your iPod warranty will be waived once you open the iPod.
In Hong Kong there are some electronic shops offering an iPod service for Sad iPod, the first thing they do is to open up the iPod’s case and disconnecting the battery and the Hard Drive from the main board of the iPod. Wait for 5-10 minutes and reconnecting them back. The reason behind which I can think of is to do a fully reset of a processor of the iPod. In case you want do it itself and you believe that you are good on fixing the electronics devices and have experience to deal with small bits of electronic parts, then you can read the following of how to open the iPod case for battery and HDD replacement (with Quicktimes)
    http://eshop.macsales.com/tech_center/index.cfm?page=Video/directory.html
2.Press the reset button on the Hard Drive inside the iPod – Suggestion from Kill8joy
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2438774#2438774
Have I tried these myself? No, I am afraid to do it myself as I am squeamish about tinkering inside electronic devices, I have few experiences that either I broke the parts (which are normally tiny or fragile) or failed to put the parts back to the main case. Therefore, I agree with suggestion to have it fixed by a Pro.
    2. Do a search on Google and some topics on this discussion forum about “Sad iPod”

  • Iphone shows black & white photo's & video when connected to HD TV?

I bought the Apple composite A/V cables to connect my iphone 3GS to my HD TV. While both photo's and video do play on the TV, they are in black & white. Does anyone know why? Is there a setting in the iphone that allows color? I'm sure it's not a setting on my TV, as all other devices that I'm able to connect to the TV work in color, except the iphone. Any suggestions?

I know that on some TV's(Samsung as an example) not all of their component inputs will work properly with composite cables and will display in black & white unless the correct input is used. Try using a different input like the one labled number 1.

  • Screen goes Black - Mini Display Port!

    Hi!
I've just started using 'Dr. Bott Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter Pro with Optical Audio' today on my 13" MacBook Pro, and it was working fine, that is until now! Every time I take the Mini Display Port out, my screen goes black! The computer is still on and running, and I can adjust the brightness, but I can't see anything! I have to put the Mini-Display Port back in for the screen to come back. Have tried restarting, and the white screen with Apple logo comes up, then just blackness!!! Until of course I put the Mini Display Port back in!!!
Please help! Am freaking out that I've had two faulty MacBooks in a row!!!

Try resetting Parameter RAM and see if that fixes it.

  • Using InDesign's Export to Kindle plug-in, how can I have normal black test display in inverse (whit

    Hi,
I asked this question several days ago and see that it got about 90 views, but no responses. I don't know if I asked the question improperly, or whether it can't be done, or nobody has a solution. I've asked it again below with a bit more detail. I sure would appreciate some kind of response, because I'm lost here.
I've created a book file (children's fantasy) with some colored fonts and anchored png images with transparent backgrounds. Basic paragraph (body text) is black. The "Export to Kindle" mobi file displays fine on Kindle for PC and Kindle Previewer when displayed in normal (white background) mode.
Kindle PC alows viewing on white, sepia or black background. Works fine on white and sepia, but when the black color mode is selected (night viewing option) the black text does not display as white text. What can I do to have the black text automatically change to white?
While trying to find a solution, I created an epub file of the book and, using Calibre, converted it to mobi. When this mobi file is loaded into Kindle PC, the black text does automatically change to white when viewed on the black screen. I would use this method of creating the mobi, but then there is different problem here. The png image no longer has a transparent background; it has been flattened with a white background. This looks bad on both the sepia and black backgrounds modes on Kindle. Same result when I use KindleGen to convert the epub. What can I do to maintain a trasparent background on my png image?
    Thanks,
    Jim

If you're not getting response here, it may be because not many people have used the Kindle plug-in. I've not tried it. The plug-in usually lags the InDesign versions. I think the current version recently added support for InDesign CS6. EPUB guru Anne-Marie Concepcion twittered this week that she thought the plug-in was much improved but still recommended using the EPUB to KindleGen method.

  • T420s display port won't drive 2560x1600?

    Hi all,
Just received a T420s, udpating from a T410s. The T410s has the switchable graphics. When connected with a display port cable using a series 3 docking station, the old T410s will drive my Dell 3008 at its native 2560x1600 resolution without any trouble.
The new T420s will *not*, no matter what I do. Same cable, same monitor, same docking station, etc. The highest it will go is 2016 x 1000-something (writing from home and going by memory, sorry I don't know the exact numbers).
Any ideas? This is a real bummer as I really need the extra real estate. Every tech spec says it will do the right resolution, but it simply won't.. I don't even get the option in the NVIDIA control panel. It won't let me put in 2560x1600 as a custom resolution. Display driver appears up to date. As I've said, there's nothing wrong with the cable, monitor, connection.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Wanted to give everybody an update on this situation. Previously I indicated that the suggestion to change the BIOS to discrete graphics only fixed this problem. Turns out I spoke too soon - it seems that even with this setting, I only get native 2560x1600 resolution 25% of the time. Fiddling around with other settings did nothing, in the end I concluded that the discrete vs. optimus setting in the BIOS didn't do anything to help me - I just got lucky following the BIOS suggestion. There may be other things that correlate with this 25%, but I don't have time to track down what they might be.
I finally found a permanent solution by changing from the default Lenovo display driver to a beta NVS 4200M driver from the NVIDIA website. Installed this a couple of days ago and my system now goes into 2560x1600 every time it is placed in the dock.
I have not revisited the discrete vs. optimus setting in the BIOS, but will eventually. Regardless, I conclude there's a problem with the Lenovo NVS 4200M drivers. FYI, I was running the 8.17.12.6696 version for Win7 64bit. I am now running the 275.27 beta drivers from NVIDIA. Everything else seems stable with these drivers, including the hardcore 3D modeling application I use at high resolution.

  • PDFs are displaying in black and white in Preview

My InDesign PDF's are suddenly displaying in black and white in Apple Preview. Is anyone else having this problem?
    Thanks!

    Thank you Mark : )
I did solve the problem and it only occured on one  document in which I changed the automatic bullet point color. I usually make my own bullet points, so this was a first for me.
Here is how I solved the problem:
When exporting the PDF, I chose the "Output" option and changed the "Color" to  "Convert to Destination (Preserve Numbers)". I then selected "Color Match RGB".
This worked for the problem document and it didn't happen again on other documents.
    Thanks Again!

  • 2400MP display in black and white

Can someone help me out,  Just last week my project only displays in black and white. I have gone through evey setting I can find but don't know what the issue is.

Googled this and found lots of information about PAL settings in an NTSC world; none of that applicable (but here for anyone's future reference).
Dug into my box of goodies and found a new s-video cable, just to try that - instant fix (at least for now).  Old cable shows no sign of damage, so who knows why this works.

  • Display half black and half white.. help please?

    Hi there,
I was wondering if anyone can help me with this. Recently, (sometimes) after i start my powerbook up or awake it from sleep.. the display instead of white... it's half white and half black. Top half is white and I can see the apple logo (startup) or the desktop (sleep). The bottom half is completely black. And gradually the the black disappeared. Is my display card screwed?
    Thanks.

My guess is that you have a backlight going bad. Miniature fluorescent tubes provide the backlight; I think at least two, perhaps top and bottom. You would have a slow starting bottom tube. AFAIK, this is not an easy or cheap repair. Most folks would replace the whole display, although it's probably possible to take the display apart and replace the tube.
If an external display connected to the computer works OK, the video card is likely fine.

  • IPad displays only in black & white

My iPad 2 just started displaying only in black & white.  Any ideas on how to fix?  I tried holding the power and home buttons for 10 seconds to reboot, but that didn't help.  Thank you for any and all ideas!

I think it all depends on how old your ipad is and what your budget is and needs are.
If yours isn';t that old and is still covered by the warranty it might be a free replacement. If it's out of warranty then the fee starts at 219 for a mini, 249 for a 2 and 299 for the newer ones....but you will get model for model...so say your iPad is an iPad 2, do you want to spend 249 for essentially a 3 year old device, or put the money towards something newer?
I think first I'd make an appointment at your local apple store and have them work on it/diagnose it and then go from there. Just make sure you make an appointment before you do so you don't waste time waiting.
