Display Port to DVI, 22inch Neovo, no signal

So I bought a new Alu Macbook last week including the according Display Port to DVI adaptor, arrive home, plug in the adaptor, connect the screen (Neovo E-W22) > NO SIGNAL.
I see my laptop screen "flash" for a sec like it always does when it detects a secondary display but nothing is being transmitted to my external display (which is perfectly working with my previous macbook and DVI adaptor). Today I went back to my mac retailer, use my macbook and the adaptor to connect it to an apple display, and ..MAGIC.. it works perfectly.
I'm guessing there's something wrong with the new DVI drivers and we need a new firmware update but atm I'm just basically "screwed", there's no way for me to use my external monitor with my new system as I'm not planning on buying a second Display Port adaptor (to VGA) as it should just work.
This isn't really a question, just a remark for other people who might have the exact same problem.
Kevin

I had similar problem when connecting my extrernal display. For me, it's was as simple as changing the channel option of the airport express from automatic to a manual selection...in my case "6." I've seen a couple posts on this now and some switch from 11 to 6, or vice versa. Mine was set up for automatic selection, so I first manually selected 11. That didn't help, but selecting 6 fixed things immediately. Here's the thread that helped me: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=11051427
and since I found it's not that easy if you don't know how, here are directions for changing the channel on your airport express:

  • Mini display port to dvi or vga adaptor?

I currently use a MacBook Pro and want to use the mini display port to my 24 inch Samsung LCD screen. My question is should I use the mini display port to DVI or VGA? My Monitor has both ports on back. I know that DVI is Digital and suppose to be the superior source compared to VGA analog, but I have only used VGA when using my Monitor with my old PC and it seemed fine enough for me.
If, I do go the DVI digital route will it be that much better graphics compared to just using VGA?
Finally, has anyone hooked up a mini display port to either DVI or VGA adaptor into an LCD monitor? What are your thoughts, concerns, advice etc. I realize its a very easy thing to do, but seem tied up between using DVI or VGA port.
    Thanks,
    DH

Diffferences are not remarkable but DVI is indeed better. I wuold then choose DVI.

  • Mini display port to DVI not working

The mini display port of my late 2009 27" iMac is not working with DVI.  Using the same monitor, DVI cable, and mini display to DVI adapter, I can connect my Air with no problems.  So the monitor, adapter, and cable are fine.  I can also connect my iMac to the same monitor using a VGA cable and a mini display to VGA adapter.  So the problem clearly seems to be with my iMac.  Has anyone had similar problems?  Any advice?  I think the image quality of DVI is substantially better than VGA so I really would like to get this working.  But I don't think the difference is worth carrying my 27" monster into the Apple Store. I could buy a mini display to HDMI adapter, but I would rather not buy yet another adapter (I think I have about 15 already with my various idevices) - and it might not work either. The DVI setup is simple and really should be working.  I bought a monitor and also a HD TV with DVI ports specifically for this.  Thanks.

    Hello,
Using the VGA connector, what resolution is set on the Monitor?
Is there any input choices on the Monitor for port or source?

  • Mini display port to DVI problems

    Hello community,
I have a question regarding the connection from an iMac via the mini display port to a DVI input at a TFT monitor. I have an older TFT monitor and now I connected the iMac with this monitor via mini display port -> DVI adapter -> DVI cable -> monitor.
It is quite a simple connection, but actually when I force Mac OSX to detect external monitors it does not react at all. Mac OSX behaves as if there is no connection to an external monitor.
I already told this to my reseller and they told me that the adapter is not working correctly and they gave me another one. With that one I have exactly the same problem and now I'm quite sure, that it is not a problem of the adapter, but somehow my iMac does not find the external monitor.
Is there probably an underlying problem I do not understand yet?
By the way, my very old Macbook White has no problems detecting the monitor. If I use the older video output it works fine, but the new output at my iMac 21,5 inch does not work with my monitor.
My question is, why does it not work and what kind of monitor do I need, that it can be connected with my iMac (via DVI)?

Is the adapter plugged in all the way in the Mini DisplayPort?  It takes more force than you might expect.

  • Mini Display Port to DVI Adapter

    Hi guys,
I bought a MiniDisplayPort to DVI adapter @ Amazon to connect my Macbook (bought in 2009) with my Samsung 27" display. here's the link for the adapter:
    http://www.amazon.de/HDGear-DisplayPort-Adapter-Stecker-Buchse/dp/B002CBMZSA/ref =sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1320868644&sr=8-3
and the link to the display: http://www.amazon.de/Samsung-SyncMaster-P2770HD-Reaktionszeit-TV-Tuner/dp/B002PW DEX6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1320869130&sr=8-1
(The display works on my windows computer without any problems with FULL HD. So that means with 1920 x 1080. I've connected the pc with the display via a DVI cable too.)
But actually the problem is that when I connect my macbook with the dispay I can't choose full HD. I can only choose a lower rate. So my display has on the left and on the right side always a black bar! The screen is than more or less pixelated!
Do you think i would have the same problem with a original Apple adapter?
And no, I can't use a HDMI adapter
    Guys please help me

    Welcome to the Discussions!
Apparently, you bought the mini-DVI to DVI adapter, which was for the previous generation of MacBook and MacBook Pro computers. Return it and get the correct one.

  • Is anyone else experiencing problems with the thunderbolt port on their Mac Mini's regarding using it to connect a second monitor? I've got the Mini Display Port to DVI-D adapter along with a DVI-D cable and I can't get an image on the second monitor.

I had an dual display image / setup working twice for a few seconds, but then it cut out. I think there may be a problem with the thunderbolt port.

As far as I can tell you have only listed that you have a DVI monitor connected to the Mini Displayport socket (i.e. the Thunderbolt socket) via presumably the Apple Mini Displayport to DVI adapter and a DVI to DVI cable.
You don't appear to have listed what the second monitor is and how it is connected (even though not working). As such I cannot tell what may be wrong.

  • Should i use display port or dvi?

I've just purchased a NEC 232WMI display.  This is a 23" display with 1980 by 1020 resolutions, and has displayport, DVI and VGA inputs, as well as USB and audio.  It supports Displayport v1.1a.
    I've got a 2006 MacBook with mini-DVI output, and a mid 2009 MacBook pro with mini-displayport out.
The display came with a DVI cable.  I've ordered a mini-DVI to DVI adapter for my macbook - the question is do I order a mini-Displayport to Displayport cable (or do I need an adapter and cable), or do I order a mini-displayport to DVI adapter to connect the MacBook Pro?
Will there be any difference in image quality / use of other cables etc?
Any suggestions as to what to do and why would be appreciated!

Diffferences are not remarkable but DVI is indeed better. I wuold then choose DVI.

  • Tecra R850-117: Need info about Display Port to DVI adapter

I want to connect my laptop to a DVI screen and it only has a DisplayPort (and VGA but I do want to get the full resolution) port.
    So I need an adapter.
Can I use a passive adapter or do I need to buy an active?

    Hi
As far as I know the DisplayPort on the left side complies to the V1.1a standard.
This means that the DispplayPort is compatible with DVI and HDMI standards so you can use an DisplayPort to DVI or HDMI adapter.
So you could use something like that:

  • Mini Display port DVI adapter not working on Thunderbolt Port

For some time I've been using a mini display port to DVI adapter on an slightly older MBP to connect to my HD TV.  I recently purchased a MBP with a Thunderbolt port and when I try to connect it to my TV via my mini-display-port-DVI adapter things are not working properly.  The MBP is seeing the Philips TV but it isn't listing all the display modes and I'm not able to send any video to it.  Does the Thunderbolt port require a new display port to DVI adapter?

Let me be clearer; I've got the MDP-DVI adapter connected to a cable that is DVI on one end and HDMI on the other.  I've got both laptops so I can compare side by side.  I plug in the MDP-DVI adapter to the old laptop and all works well; I plug it into the new laptop and while the laptop does see the TV, the display modes for it are all 1080p which is wrong I don't see any desktop image on the TV unlike when I plug it into the older laptop.  This is very disappointing as I expect things to just work with Apple products.

  • Can a mini DVI Display port work with a DVI to HDMI Cable?

I just  bought  a Mini Display Port to DVI Adapter Along with DVI to HDMI Cable for my Mac. I plugged the adapter Into my Imac then I plugged DVI end of the other cable into the adapter when Plugged HDMI connection into my HD TV nothing happened.

I'll second that, you need the > Mini DP to HDMI Adapter - Apple Store (U.S.) and a good HDMI cable.

  • Mini display port to RCA TV

    Hokay, SO
I just had a very frustrating weekend. It ended with a broken TV and a cut hand, but we won't go into that at the moment.
I bought a Mini display port to DVI cable, as well as a DVI to Video cable both from the mac store. This was so that I could use an RCA cable to connect it to my tv which is a few years old. However, it seems to me that the Mini displayport to DVI cable and the DVI to Video cable aren't even really compatable. There seem to be prongs or pins or whatever coming form the one that the other doesn't even have a slot for. So needless to say, it didn't work.
WHAT can I do to watch movies from my brand new macbook 13" on my old tv using video cables!?!?!?!

There are 3 kinds of DVI plugs: DVI-A (Analog only), DVI-D (Digital only), and DVI-I (Integrated, Digital and Analog signal). If there are no pins above the blade, it is DVI-D, which usually has compatibility problems with certain analog-only peripherals. If it does have the pins, it is either DVI-A or DVI-I, which means that it does have an analog signal. Since RCA cables use an analog signal, the DVI to RCA adapter must use DVI-A I'd imagine. I'm guessing that the MiniDP to DVI adapter uses DVI-D. I don't know why apple would do that, since they have a MiniDP to VGA adapter which uses an analog signal, so MiniDP must be able to send an analog signal (unless the VGA adapter has some converter to convert digital signals to analog). Hope that wasn't too confusing.

  • Female Mini Display Port Adapter - Connect Monitor to Non Mini Display Port

Anyone know of a Female Mini Display Port Adapter, so I can connect the 24 LED Cinema Display to a computer that has DVI connector? Or hook the monitor up to a KVM, so I can use the monitor with multiple computers?
I know Apple doesn't make these, but does a third party?
Monoline appears to be coming out with adapters to hook a mini display port computer to DVI and HDMI, but not a mini display port monitor to DVI or HDMI.

'Mini Display port' is just a smaller version of display port, which is a slightly different version of HMDI.
No. You may be thinking of Mini DVI. Mini DisplayPort is a smaller verion of DisplayPort, which is different from DVI and HDMI.
    <http://www.displayport.org/white-papers/whitepapers/DPTech_OverviewEnglish.pdf>
HDMI, display port, mini display port AND DVI are all capable of being 'converted' from one to another.
It is easy to make a Mini DisplayPort (card) to DVI (display) adapter because a DisplayPort card can be set to generate DVI signals. (Dual-link DVI is a bit more complicated since the adapter must sepatate the clock and data.). A DVI card cannot generate DisplayPort signals, so an adapter for a DisplayPort display with a DVI card would be a lot more complicated.
The ONLY thing that you would LOSE in a DVI to display port conversion is an audio signal.
HDMI is DVI video plus digital audio. DisplayPort does not use DVI video.
The point is they are all interchangeable, signal wise.
No. A DisplayPort card can generate DVI signals when a DuisplayPort to DVI adapter is detected, but a DVI cards cannot generate DiusolayPort signals.
But why should Apple make a cheap DVI to female display port when they can make more money on overpriced graphics card upgrades?
They can't make a cheap adapter, but they could have added a DVI port to the display.

  • Samsung LA32B530 Not Recognised via Mini Display Port

    Hi,
Tried connecting a Samsung LA32B530 LCD Screen to my MBP. The Screen is not recognised by the system. The screen is connected via the Mini Display Port to DVI adapter and from there via a DVI to HDMI cable. Screen on flickers blue when I plug the screen in but no signal recognised by screen and the screen is not recognised in the control panel.
The MBP is connected to the screen via the HDMI1 port which is said by Samsung to be used with a DVI to HDMI cables.
    Any suggestions?
