Display Problem:  4 vertical lines (blue, pink, lime, lime)

I was wondering if there's anything that can be done to eliminate the 4 vertical lines in the display... I can still use it as is, but it's aggravating...

If you are under Apple Care, return it for repair. This is likely a compression fit connector failing between the panel and the driver board.

  • How can I fix my display that had vertical lines when I open/close the lid?

Just a few minutes ago, as I was adjusting the Macbook's lid, I got a huge vertical line showing on my display. The line goes away after I fiddled with the lid a little. Now, every time I open/close the lid, the lines sometimes pop in and out, always in the same area.
I'm scared the wires connecting to the Macbook's display is loose or something. What can I fix it?
Here's a picture of how it looks like: http://img341.imageshack.us/img341/7683/picture4gj.png

Sounds like the LVDS cable might have come loose somewhere or is faulty, would not say it's the LCD just yet. If it's under warranty just take it to any apple store or local service provider. If it's out of warranty I would not suggest taking to an Apple Store because they will just quote you the whole display, but an Apple Service Provider might be able or wiling to attempt to just repair the faulty part in the display(just know your model display does not come apart easily) http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1434 , good luck

  • LaserJet 1536 scan problem w/ vertical line using automatic feed tray

When a document is scanned using the automatic feeder the printout has a vertical line top to bottom.  When scanned using the flat bed scanner there is no vertical line printed.  Is there a separate upper laser scanner in the automatic feed lid that now has some kind of flaw?  New toner/drum cartridge so no lack of toner.  All other features seem to work fine.
Update: after finding other comments on this problem, I re-looked at the scan glass strip and found a pencil dot smudge that normal wiping did not clean off.  The automatic feeder scans from a fixed position while the paper moves past and any type of speck on the strip of scan glass will turn up as a line on the print out.  But when scanning using the flat bed, the laser scanner moves over non moving paper and any specks on the glass turn up just as that, a speck and will not result in a print line up and down the paper.  So, absolute care must be taken when cleaning the narrow scan glass strip.

  • T60 display problem - boot in low resolution pink/blue shade

I have a T60 2623D7U that has a screen resolution of 1400x1050. The problem I am having is that when I start the laptop it starts up with a really low resolution, probably 640x480, and the colour of the screen sometimes has a pink or blue shade. Sometimes it flickers with white horizontal lines. When Windows XP is loaded, I cannot change the screen resolution and even though it shows that it is 1024x768, it is probably still showing at 640x480.  Every once in a while it will actually start up with the correct screen resolution and everything works perfectly, but this only happens very rarely. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

does this problem occur on external screen?

  • Problem T530 (Vertical thin blue line) HELP!

    Hello Folks,
I just bought my T530 in July/August. I have been loving it so far.
While I was working on my laptop this morning, a sudden thin blue pixel line showed up (left corner of my screen).
What should I do?  I have the regular insurance packet that came with it nothing extra...
I have never shipped back a laptop. How does this process work, and what are my next steps.
    Thank you people.
I am pretty nervous about this issue. I am a student, and can't afford losing this laptop for a long long time.

  • Date Picker display problems on same line with no new field

With version 3.1.1 the attempted display of two date fields side by side appear stacked in the same column with the labels in between instead of side by side. This works fine with version 1.6.
Create a page with 2 Date Picker items. Call the first one P1_DATE_FROM and the second one P1_DATE_TO. For P1_DATE_TO set the "Begin on new line" attribute to NO and the "Field" attribute to NO then display the page.
The resulting display will be shown as:
Line 1: Box for Date From value with date picker icon
Line 2: Labels for both Date From and Date To with only a single space between
Line 3: Box for Date To value with date picker icon
    The resulting display should be:
Line 1: Label for Date From, Box for Date From with date picker icon, Label for Date To, Box for Date To with date picker icon.
If you set the "Field" attribute to YES then the fields will appear on the same line in separate columns. I am trying to leave the second column available for and additional column of items in order to reduce the vertical scrolling on the page.
If you repeat the above example with Text fields instead of Date Picker fields the desired result is achieved.

You are correct that saying "Yes" to the field attribute will allow the items to format properly however this will push the second field into the second column on the page. I am purposely trying to keep these 2 items in the first column so that I can place a third item in the second column.
I have tried using the "Start and Stop HTML table" feature to work around this but I can't control the alignment of the margins for the items above and below the start and stop item which make the display of the region even worse.
Any other ideas or suggestions for work arounds would be appreciated.

  • 13" Macbook Pro Retina Display showing coloured vertical lines

    Hi,
I bought this laptop in Jan 2014 and within 4 months, the display has started showing vertical coloured lines.
What can be done about it? is this covered in the one-year warranty given by Apple?

Run the hardware test that came with it.   Boot with the 'D' key.  If unrevealing, you either have a graphics chip issue, or RAM issue, or your inverter cable or board are damaged.   Note: if the machine resists movement of the display back beyond a certain amount, you shouldn't force it back any further.  Among other things, the cable can get damaged if you force it back more than it should be forced.    If you had RAM or other things installed the people who did that installation, may have made the hinge too tight or not tight enough, leading to the cable being more at risk of getting damaged.  If you dropped the machine, or spilled anything on it, you are likely to get a stiff repair bill.   Good luck!

  • 2008 macbook pro 15" (Santa Rosa) weird display color and vertical lines

I have the 2008 macbook pro 15" (Santa Rosa). After my upgrade to mac os x lion (10.8.2), I noticed that periodically the screen either turns to weird display color and have horizontal lines on screen. This happens mostly during start up and lasts for about a min or two. Does this happen because of a faulty graphics card? I have NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT 256 MB card on this macbook pro. Please advice

Nope - it sounds as if you've GPU issues and the discrete GPU is soldered onto the logic board. take your new machine into your local Apple Store for a replacement. Don't wait too long!

  • IPad 2 display has flickering vertical lines

My iPad 2 display is flickering and has verticle lines.  It is acting like it is having a graphics card issue.  You can barely make out what is on the screen.  Due to familiarity, I am able to navigate through the menus.  It was not dropped and I am pretty sure there is no water damage.
I took a screen shot of the display, when it downloaded to iPhoto it was perfect.
    Any suggestions?

Not normal. Take it to an Apple Store for evaluation.

  • Screen displays vertical lines on boot up

I tried to boot up my macbook, and it skipped the chime, and just displayed multi coloured vertical lines. The problem was solved via resetting the PRAM. Also, the screen is darker if there's a shadow on it. I have a diagonal shadow on the screen when it happened, and the lower half was darker than the top.
    Why?

Hello everyone, I have had the same problem happen to me a couple of times now!!, the first time it happend, I had only had my Macbook a couple of days, I went to reboot one evening and all I got was coloured vertical lines, nothing else.
I thought it might have been the i gig ram i had fitted the same day, but after changing the ram back to the original ram, the lines were still there. I reset the p-ram and it booted fine. then it happend again, but when I held down the option-command-p-r, still nothing, just coloured lines.
I was starting to worry now, however after rebooting several times by holding the power button down for 3 seconds, it finaly let the p-ram reset to work, then today......yes again, I tried everything I had done before, nothing!!!! So I removed the hard drive and turned it on with no hard drive in place, hooray........ at least the coloured lines had gone and a question mark was flashing on the screen, so I replaced the hard drive and all was back to normal.
So I searched Google for forums on this problem, and I had found heaps of MacBooks had developed the lines problem after installing the 10.4.7 upgrade........one guy suggested reinstalling 10.4.6, so I did and the lines have not come back yet. Well after all of this, I am not shure if maybe the hard drive may have moved out of its socket so when I pushed it back in it fixed the problem, or whether it was reverting back to 10.4.6, or it may still be a hardware problem.
If there is anyone out there with an answer to the coloured vertical lines mistery, I would appreciate any infomation.
NB: It seems when the dreaded lines appear the whole system goes dead.

  • Mid 2011 MacBook air vertical lines on display

While sending à webform today my air display all of à sudden displayed à bunch of vertical lines. I couldnt see anything so i held power button down to restart and it restarted to gray screen no apple logo but 2 vertical lines representing my 2 login avatars. I clicked around aimlessly until i got lucky to click on an icon then entered my password and it restarted and loaded everything as normal except you couldnt see anything except a bunch of multi colored vertical lines. Tried smc reset and pram reset but it still is not working. Not sure where to go from here. No apple stores in sweden within 500miles either. Might try to go buy an external monitor plug to see if it will display correct on external monitor. Any ideas?

So, I guess the adapter came with the display just in case I had a compatible Mac. I should have noted that on the card. Now, about the rest of the stuff in my Apple mystery box...that's for another day.
Thanks, seb101, for your quick reply!

  • Vertical lines and image gradients appearing on G5? PLEASE HELP!

Hello! I have been experiencing some issues with my G5 recently, in which I haven't been able to find very much information at all on. So, I figured I'd try to get everything sorted out here, and see if any one knows how I can fix my problem?
    Vertical lines ;
From what I've seen, this seems to be a pretty common problem. It started one day when I discovered just a single pixel blue line running down the very center of my screen. After a while I learned to ignore it, but overtime, more began to appear. I am now up to 33 of these lines spanning in various different spots on the screen, all different colors. Again, I've learned to cope, but with time, more seem to be appearing. I'm just wondering how I can fix it, before it gets too bad?
    Image gradients ;
I have never been able to find anyone with a problem even slightly like this on my type of computer, so I'm curious to know if anyone else has ever had this problem, or have seen of anyone who has? It seems that not too long after the vertical lines began showing up, that a weird sort of gradient type texture has appeared on many of the default mac images, along with images and videos in both preview and iMovie/quicktime. Here is an example of part of my screen:
I find that the places it effects the most are in games, such as Minecraft or the Sims 2, in which I used to play a lot a few years back. It also effects exported photos and videos if uploaded to the internet. For example, I uploaded a video to YouTube recently, in which I played back on my phone a few hours later to find that it had the gradient on it as well, only a red version. My brother seems to think its a virus, but I'm not sure? Does anyone know how I can fix this?
Thank you for taking the time to read!

The problem is usually a damaged graphics chip.  Run the hardware test that came with the machine.  The fact that the Apple menu is showing issues, says it is not with the image in question, nor with the screen image you grabbed.  The screen capture depends on the graphics chip to render the image correctly.  The fact is not, it captures the problem.  If the hardware test is unrevealing, you may have bad RAM.  Make sure the RAM is designated as iMac G5 compatible RAM, and not just any PC4200 RAM.  Be careful to identify your iMac G5 correctly as there may be more than one type of iMac G5 compatible RAM:

  • Any hope for the dreaded iMac "vertical lines"??

Curious if there's an update to Apple's response regarding the almost universal issue with their iMac's developing vertical lines in the display withing days or weeks of the warranty expiring.

"Almost" universal - search this forum & you'll see MANY people reporting this issue. In nearly every case (including mine) the problem happened shortly after the default warranty expired (in many cases it occurred the same week the warranty expired!)
Issue is related to the iMac display - it develops vertical lines. Typically starts with one or two & then increases from there. Mine started with one - 2nd one just popped up. The iMac is a 2nd computer that doesn't see nearly as much use as my Powerbook or PC laptops & only the iMac developed this issue.
There were people in contact with Apple & even class-action type remedies being discussed if I remember right! Curious what the latest word (if any) on that was.
