Display problem - blue tinge, low res

My first gen 20" intel imac has an odd display problem.
The screen has a light blue tinge to it which show up particularly clearly in finder windows which i have set to display white. I've played around with brightness/contrast settings as well as colour calibration but to no avail.
This problem started a few months ago when it would periodically flick between being normal and this blue tinge. For the last few weeks the blue tinge is all I get.
The other symptom seems to be a reduction in resolution in 'blue tinge mode' which is particularly noticeable when watching movies.
Does anyone out there have any ideas?

does this problem occur on external screen?

Jin Li

  • IMac G5 monitor problem blue tinge on whole screen

I have a video display problem. I saw flashing and image tearing and then things settled down with everything having a bluish color added to it. I connected an external monitor and that display has normal colors. Does this indicate that the problem is with the computer's video display or could it be some cheaper component that has the problem? Since the computer is over 4 years old, if the repair is expensive, I'm inclined to put the money into a new computer.

Is there any difference if the second display is NOT connected (assuming you normally use them together with monitor spanning)?
If it's +late 2004+, it would be this model

(or one of the other configs in this lineup). You can open the back on these iMac models using Apple-provided instructions.

The one for Inverter may be most relevant, since the inverter provides power to the LCD backlighting lamps. So you might look inside to make sure there is not accumulated dust or any other obvious problem with things like internal cable connections. Other than that, I can't think of anything else to try.

  • T60 display problem - boot in low resolution pink/blue shade

I have a T60 2623D7U that has a screen resolution of 1400x1050. The problem I am having is that when I start the laptop it starts up with a really low resolution, probably 640x480, and the colour of the screen sometimes has a pink or blue shade. Sometimes it flickers with white horizontal lines. When Windows XP is loaded, I cannot change the screen resolution and even though it shows that it is 1024x768, it is probably still showing at 640x480.  Every once in a while it will actually start up with the correct screen resolution and everything works perfectly, but this only happens very rarely. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

  • Mac Pro (early 2008) NVidia 8800GT display problems (blue/green lines)

I see others have touched on this topic a bit but not quite the same as my problem
Every 2 - 3 days, I have to reboot my Mac Pro because my display starts showing the dreaded blue green outlines and lines..
I've called Apple (of course they are not going to admit that others have this problem) and they told me to reset the PRAM, which I did to no avail of course.
I've had this card for 3 weeks, and they are telling me that I need to bring my mac pro to the apple store. Yeah right, like I can afford to bring my computer in a for a few days, when that is what I use for work everyday (computer programmer).
When I asked them to replace the card, they told me I have to bring it in, then I told them they can just send me a refund and keep this crap. Which the support rep said, I can't authorize that. Hah.. Apple is really digging on my last nerves these days.
I did not have this problem with the stock ATI.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.. I've run hardware tests off the Apple DVD and using techtool pro, nothing fails.
I've heard reports that this card is a major dog (slow) in leopard, that the ATI actually out-performs it, anyone else here anything like this?

What monitor are you using it with? If it's a 30" Cinema, this problem has been around for a couple of years without any resolution - there's a long thread about it in the Displays forum.

Im having one problem - my display is slightly off - its showing some strange blue lines, for example when I hover my mouse over the tabs at the top of apple.com, or at the top of these pages on the 'store', 'Mac' Etc. Have tried changing the display settings to no avail. Has anyone else got the same problem? Have updated all drivers also.
    Thanks!

  • Hello to all: My iMac has developed a video display problem. It displays everything in cartoon like colors - purple, green, blue. Can this be repaired? Is there a way to output to a different monitor? Thanks in advance!  isplays

    Hello -
My iMac has developed a video display problem. Everything now appears in a strange, cartoonish way. Purples, greens, blues. Can this be fixed, and if so, any idea how much it might cost? Also, could I output to a seperate monitor? I plan to replace the unit , but cannot right now. Thanks!

Go to System Preferences > Universal Access > Seeing.
In the Display area, reset it to "Black on white" by clicking that checkbox.
You can also reset it by pressing Command-Option-Control-8

  • My iphone 4s suddenly displays images from Yahoo, Google, and Flickr at low resolution. The camera on my phone works fine, but any web related photo content is now pixelated and low res, what's the deal?

My iphone 4s suddenly displays images from Yahoo, Google, and Flickr at a low resolution. I have IOS 7.0.4. My phone camera works fine, but any web based photo content from Safari, Yahoo images, Google images, and Flickr all come in pixelated and low res. What's the deal?

It happened to me but later I figured out that cellular signal was not that great and so the Internet was very slow. It took me about 2 minutes to get the full resolution picuture on either of the app you've described. Try to get faster internet either by wifi or good signal and then check.

  • Does low-res videos/movies look bad on the Retina display? (compared to a full hd display)

I'll be watching a lot of movies/series on the MBP Retina i've ordered, will low-res/480p look slightly worse than it would on a full hd display, or will it look horrible?
    Thanks!

What is a "low-res" video? It will look as good as the "low-res" is. If the video is 100px x 100px it will display 100px x 100px unless you stretch or otherwise manipulate it.
If a "low-res" video is an old 1930's grainy video it will look like a 1930's grainy video.
Maybe I did not understand your question.

  • Powerbook G4 12 " display is low res and faint

    Dear Gurus of such things,
My Powerbook G4 12" display goes into some kind of low res and faint display after restarting. After days of this, it will suddenly become high res and clear again, for no reason that I can tell. It also recovers after my Powerbook has been connected to a projector.
Is there some way to fix this poor display after restarting without connecting it to a projector?
    Thanks Scotianova

Why not ask Applecare to replace the whole laptop ?
by the way,is your MBP a Core or Core 2 Duo?
I am currently using a Core 2 Duo MBP, it's working well(except for a defective battery )but i am happy with it.

  • How come my PPT to PDF files look so awful (low res)?

I have a powerpoint file that I need to save as a PDF. Originally, I had a lot of PNGs in the file because I need a transparent background, but each time I save the file as a PDF it looks horribly low-res (blurry, jagged edges-everything images should not be). All of my images are high quality and nothing is being scaled up. I have adjusted the settings in the PDF dialog box to be printer quality, and I've checked the "High Quality" setting checkbox.
Next I thought powerpoint preferred JPGs, so I saved all my images in that format, but I'm still having the same result.
Here's another plot-twist: saving the powerpoint file on a Mac gives me slightly better quality, but none of the hyperlinks work.
    What up?

It may be the PNG with transparency. This is a classic problem with AA, though I thought it had been fixed. Older versions could not handle transparency. With PPT, PDF Maker changes the borders I think. That improves the PDF result without having to change some of teh options in the printer yourself. The resolution looks good, unless your problem is that of some colors and lines being impossible to see because of the 1200 dpi. I use the default resolution of 300 dpi (the default is 1200). I had problems with 1 pixel vector graphics that would be washed out when done with the 1200 dpi.
If it is not the transparency, then there is a chance the problem has to do with this display resolution.

  • Tty display problems with nvidia and uvesafb

I'm trying to get my console to display correctly at 1080p; trying to do so through GRUB was always an absolute nightmare.
The console displays fine with nouveau, but nouveau causes the infamous pink line bug, which is simply too irritating to ignore; nouveau is not an option.
In the past, my console has run at low res and incorrect scale with nvidia, but I've ignored the problem since I prefer to use a virtual terminal in X.
Now, if possible, I need to use the actual console for the purposes of module development.
I installed v86d and uvesafb and configured the console for 1920x1080 and 32 bit depth.
The console is displaying with the correct resolution now, but is surrounded by a black border, making the font distorted and extremely difficult to read.
How can I get my console to scale correctly to fullscreen? Any ideas at all. I found nothing in the forums or wiki, and I'm out.
I'm fairly certain there are no vga or video settings in GRUB that are interfering.

Also, it might help to describe the behaviour more specifically / more in depth...
The rendered part of the console occupies the same space as the GRUB boot menu.
I installed and configured virtualbox a few weeks previously.
I ran "sudo depmod -a" as the wiki / forums indicated it could remedy problems with virtual machines failing to start.
It did fix the virtualbox problem; after reboot, suddenly lightdm *also* initally occupied the same window space as grub.
That was new behaviour. When I logged in to xmonad, the desktop displayed similarly to GRUB.
I hadn't tried fixing it; logging in with root followed by "ps -e | grep X" and "kill -9 <Xpid>" caused X as a whole to start behaving and scaling normally.
I haven't rebooted until attempting to rectify the issue with my console.
The oddity with scaling in lightdm and xmonad still shows up after reboot and is still reparable by killing X.
Killing X doesn't - obviously - have any effect on console scale.

  • Ideacentre B320 display problem

I'm suffering from a display problem, and cannot figure if it's a software or hardware issue... I'm on Win7 64bit. Here are the symptoms:
    1) For a while now, intermittently the screen would go grey (or some sort of a messed up pattern of rgb pixels) and I would have to power down forcefully. The frequency of this has gone up very much in the recent weeks
    2) When the machine freezes, I can still hear the music playing, and Windows continues to do whatever it was doing before
    3) Recently (I'm guessing after a Windows update), I wasn't able to boot into normal mode anymore. It would show the Windows splash screen, then before the login screen appears it would just go black and freeze. Leaving it for a long time doesn't lead to recovery
    4) To try and fix this, I've updated the ATI driver to the latest version, which didn't work so progressively tried every version between the11.6 and 10.3 (4?) which was the default when the machine was purchased. No luck there. I've also flashed the bios and that didn't help either
    5) I can boot into safe mode, so I disabled amdkmdap using sysinternal's autoruns.exe, which meant that I can boot into normal mode, but it woud fall back onto Windows' vga driver (1400x1050 only!)
    6) Now, even in the low res mode, almost daily the grey screen freezing would happen and I would have to reboot. Tapping the power button allows the shutdown dialog to come up (I'm guessing), and pressing enter would shut down the machine then.
There's an awful lot of posts on the internet regarding people having issues with ATI HD6450 and similar category cards, some of which sound similar to my case. They too experienced the freezing problem and reverting or upgrading the drivers had no effect (many even reinstalled windows completely). It sounds like though, the problem is software in origin at a guess.
On the other hand, the machine is now 3-4 years old and I could imagine that the GPU or graphics memory might have suffered wear and tear -- emailing Lenovo support took a week to get a response, the only thing they asked was whether my warranty is still active (after that it's been a complete silence) are they usually this terrible?
The last thing is, when the problem first occurred I booted using a linux live CD and it was all fine, at full resolution graphics. I haven't repeated this experiment since it takes quite a while to boot from a CD... but suggested that the hardware is intact. In fact, by messing about with the drivers I was able to boot into Windows normal mode and operate for 1-2 days, after which the grey freeze happened again. I haven't been able to get back into that since.
Here is my question: Is there a way to find out whether it's software or hardware that's at fault? If it turns out to be hardware, what are my options at replacements? The GPU is soldered onto the motherboard, so do I have to replace the whole thing? If it's a software issue, would restoring to factory default state fix this issue, given that an unknown update could cause the same issue at any time... This is the last time I will buy an AIO without removable everything.

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !
Probably a good test of the hardware is use the Linux Live CD that you used earlier.   If the graphics are still good when using the Live CD then your monitor and GPU are fine.
If the hardware checks out Ok then I suspect you have a driver problem.  Try using a driver cleaner to fully uninstall the ATI driver since bit and pieces left over from previous driver installs can cause problems.  The link below is for a free and highly recommended utility for cleaning the system of the graphic drivers.  After the clean up I would try installing the original driver that came with your system.
