Display problem- Missing letters

Hello there,
I had a display problem with my 15" mac book pro. Sometimes the words on the menu bar will have missing letters. For example, F le Ed t Vi w and etc. This does not only happen in the main interface, it also occurs when I'm browsing websites (the contents have missing letters too)or open other applications(iphoto, imovie) The problem is getting worse these days, I 'll have to restart my computer every single time when it happens.
Does anyone have any solution to this technical issue?
Thank you very much,
Lilly

I tried IVMichael's suggestion above and had no joy, but when i restarted i found a file called /Users/your_name/Library/Preferences/com.apple.LaunchServicesQuartantined
after deleting that and restarting i seem to have solved the problem.
Good luck

  • Installation Display Problem - missing graphics

    Morning folks,
    I've just started to install Sun Express Developer Edition from DVD on to my PC and can't get past the first set of graphical screens. The graphic installer starts properly and I get the graphical selections/options on screen but the bottom and left hand side of the desktop are missing. This means I can't select an option and continue because the forward/ok/continue buttons are off the edge of my monitor.
    The only answer I've had so far is to use the standard non-graphical install, but this does not install the full Developer Edition which I really could do with.
    Can anybody give me some boot up options that would allow me to correctly set the display for graphical installation?
    Thanks guys.

  • Embedding font problem - missing letters - PLEASE HELP!

    The M carachter is missing in all the text.
    The font is embedded and looks fine within catalyst. It is sometimes a problem when I run the file, but always a problem when published.
    I have tried on both windows and mac but problem is on both.
    I have tried rasterizing the text but looses to much quality. I have also tried optimizing graphics but this doesnt change anything - still missing M!
    I cannot find the answer online anywhere, and I really need to solve this asap!
    Please check my site so far:

    Any help would be much appreciated!

    Hi Chris,
    Yes I have embeded the font and it will not diplay the M's
    Is there anyway to change the embed options?
    I tried a tester with the same font in flash pro which at first would show the same fault until I changed the text from TLF to Classic Text. However this doesn't help with my Catalyst project! It does however prove that Flash is able to render the whole font family.
    Any suggestions???? Have been trying for days to fix this strange issue!
    The font is a .TTF
    I Look forward to your reply, thanks for the help

  • Exporting to PDF - Missing letters   InDesign CS5

    I'm using CS5 at work.  My boss already had a commercial font, the Helvetica Neue serie.  I'm using that font right now in an InDesign document for our yearly catalogue.
    The InDesign file is perfect, pictures and texts.  But when I translate it to a PDF, letter go missing, 'li' 'ni' 'lo' and sequences of letters like that, all around the catalogue.
    I know there are some threads that talk about missing letters but in previous versions of InDesign.
    Anyone got an idea ?
    I created once of twice PDFs without that problem, so I wonder what is happening ?

    should I change font then ?  it's kindda late, it's uploading with corrections right now to China....
    Well, if what you have works for you, and if it's already on its way, then it's a bit late to change the font or change the way you made the PDF.
    For the future, though, it would be good for you to figure out what went wrong. Now, I don't have a full set of Helvetica (horrors! I work in a nonprofit), so I had to try this with other fonts. I picked Minion Pro at first, actually. I exported all kinds of PDFs, both for print and for interactive, and I couldn't make the ligatures drop. And I viewed it in my browser as well as opened from the desktop, I tried it with generic Times, I tried it in many, many ways. I was not able to reproduce your issue.
    It'll be worth the time spent digging if you can figure this out. Here are my guesses:
    1) You folks are using a plugin or another app or some non-Adobe PDF viewer in your browsers. I remember in the early days of... um... I think it was Preview on the Mac circa 10.3?  it would sometimes mess up display of ligatures in embedded fonts.
    2) Everyone in your organization has the same corrupt version of Helvetica. (A very, very long shot.)
    3) There's a bug in the Interactive PDF export. (Another very, very long shot.)
    4) The font is not actually embedding correctly in the interactive PDF for unknown reasons, and we can't tell.
    Anyhow, if it's a problem with your setup or your working methods, better to find out now rather than later. And if it's a bug, same. I'd start by trying to export interactive PDFs with other fonts that do have ligatures to see if you can narrow it down to "just ligatures" or "just Helvetica."

  • Compaq Presario CQ56-219WM keyboard frequently misses letters when I am typing

    When I am typing on my Compaq Presario CQ56-219WM I frequently miss letters and spaces.  I have a USB keyboard plugged in, but the missing letters happens on both the laptop's keyboard and the USB keyboard.  I did not notice this issue happening before I installed a Plugable USB 2.0 Universal Laptop Docking Station.  However, I am a bit baffled since this problem happens even when the docking station is not connected and I am just using the integrated notebook keyboard.
    I use Windows 7 Home Premium.
    Would someone be able to tell me what to do, if anything, to resolve this issue?  It's really frustrating to have to constantly spell check to try and catch the errors!

    Hi MrsJP. Try updating the BIOS in your notebook. Go to this link http://goo.gl/rk8CV and select which version of Windows 7 you are using and click next. It will display all downloads available for your notebook, including the BIOS update.
    Here http://goo.gl/wTZr6 is a document that will hopefully answer any questions about finding and updating/installing your BIOS.
    Please let me know if this fixes your issue or if you need anything else.

  • Weird event display problem in week view

    Hi. I'm getting a weird display problem in week view. First time this has ever happened.
    Some events appear to be missing, but when i double click on where I know the event is supposed to be, a new event is created (as excepted), and the missing events suddenly appear. When i move forward or back by a week, and then return to the week in question, the missing events are gone again. But, I can see the missing events in day view or month view.
    Any ideas?

    Dean,
    Next, try reinstalling the Mac OS X v10.6.2 Update (Combo).
    If that is unsuccessful:
    1. Use iCal>Export...>for each one of your individual calendars.
    2. Delete all but one of your calendars.
    3. Create a calendar and name it "Test."
    4. Delete the calendar which remained after step #2.
    5. Quit iCal.
    6. Remove the iCal plist, and drag the iCal plist file to your Desktop.
    7. Log out/in or restart.
    8. Restart iCal and use iCal>File>Import...for each one of the calendars that you exported in step #1.
    9. Delete the "Test" calendar, and any "Home/Work" calendar which was automatically created when you opened iCal in step #8.

  • Display problem, and maybe worse

    On startup this morning my iMac (PowerPC) G5 display began behaving very strangely. The screen is displaying my usual desktop picture, dock and icons, and finder window. Applications are running, but very oddly.
    The screen is covered in small visible dots, some flashing, some static. When I open a document, or a page in Safari, it displays more or less normally (I can use Word, for example), by then "smears" if I start to scroll down the page. At other times the graphics break up completely.
    I'm guessing this is a display problem, but one other odd symptom is that sometimes if I click on a file in the Finder window, instead of opening the document the window shuts down and re-opens in its starting configuration.
    I tried a restart, but it stuck on a black screen, and I had to force it to stop via holding the start button, and start again from there. I tried accessing system profiler, and it all froze up, requiring another button stop / start.
    It looks like a hardware issue, but I've no idea what kind. Anybody recognise what is happening? (I'm posting this from my iBook).

  • Some PDF Documents are Missing Letters when Printing

    We use a Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise (64-bit) server as our print server. Ever since we moved our printers to this server, several of our existing PDF documents have missing letters when they print. If you modify your print properties and choose "Print as Image", the documents print correctly with no missing letters.
    The missing letters seem to come in specific combinations, such as ti, ft, fa, etc.
    Our previous print server was a Windows Server 2003 (32-bit) machine and these documents all printed fine on that server.
    Are there any known issues with printing PDF documents on a 64-bit print server, or with 64-bit drivers?
    Thank you for your time,
    Jason

    This response will hopefully help you towards a solution—I have not encountered the specific problem you are facing.
    The image you posted shows the fonts that are embedded in your document: both Calibri and Myriad Pro. However, the second instance of Calibri indicates that some some of the Calibri characters were encoded differently, and I suspect based on the combo characters you listed, these are glyphs and are what your printer is having trouble processing.
    The usual solution for print server issues is to make sure all drivers and firmware are updated.
    The answer to your question regarding embedding fonts completely is to change your Adobe pdf print preferences to embed all fonts, not just a subset. This must be done when the pdf is being created initially. You can change font embedding by choosing a joboption like Press Quality that includes full font embedding or by modifying the joboption you are already using. In Windows, you can do this at the time of print by selecting the Advanced button next to the printer selection dropdown and changing settings there, in advance by modifying the printing preferences from your printers menu, or by editing the joboptions in Acrobat Distiller.

  • Keyboard envy dv7 - missing letters

    I've noticed while I'm typing in a document/email, etc., I have a lot of missing letters, forcing me to back up and fix them.  I'm not a particularly fast typer, but I did not have this problem when I was using another HP laptop with Windows 7.  Now I'm using not only a newer computer but Windows 8.  I recently upgraded my bios with no improvement.  Anything else I can check or adjust?

    Could just be you're hitting the touchpad when typing since it's a different laptop.

  • OSX 5.7 update display problems

    I have never had problems with updates before. With 10.5.7 I have an external display running with my macbook, (which was connected during the install), but since installing the update, I cannot correct the display. Now my macbook display has turned 'super-wide' with large black edges at top and bottom, and the external zooms in on this so that all the periphery of the display is missing. I have tried changing the resolution but it doesn't help. Anyone else had problems like this or have any ideas how it might be resolved short of resorting to a removal of the update..?

  • Mid 2007 iMac24, which suddenly has a display problem.

    First windows appeared partially transparent, showing shadows of images of windows which already were closed! Then it started to have trouble to wake up the display. Now even a restart results in a black screen which only eventually reappears after several minutes. Newly typed letters are gray until the slowly get black, as I am typing... really strange !! What is going on? First I thought this is a hardware issue like a blown backlight. But it has some really crazy aspects which seem to hint at a sofware problem.

I am very, very curious about what is going on. I am on a sabatical in Sao Paulo, and Apple Care has expired for my 2007 iMac. I really would like to get some feedback, before I send it to  a repair centre. I already look for one, but I have my doubts that the local Appple store have technicians at the location, most likely my iMac will be sent from one place to the other....

  • Missing Letters throughout document

    I have been working on compiling a number of smaller PDFs into one larger PDF for a manual I am working on. I had everything compiled a few days ago and a co-worker added a new pto the PDF yesterday that needed to be included. As I was  proofing I have come to discover that on random pages there are missing letters that were not missing prior. I have done many searches but cannot find why this is happening or how to fix it. I have tried to replace these pages with the original PDF but every time I replace the page the letters continue to be missing. I have included a small example of the missing letters.
    As you can see it is does not make any sense with the missing letters. IS there anyway to fix this problem without starting over? This is a 110+ page manual.
    I am working with Adobe Acrobat Pro 10

    My post # 3, June 24
    I can document instances where several pdf's (from various sources) without embedded fonts are combined into one composite pdf.
    Acrobat will not be able to successfully embed the fonts.
    If however, all these original documents do have the fonts embedded, there are no problems rendering/printing the document.
    Embedded and embedded subset are equal. Full subsetting is not necessary. (In the case of Open Type fonts there can be thousands of glyphs available which would increase pdf file size unnecessarily. Only the fonts used are embedded (subset).)

    It sounds like the Filter Keys function may be turned on. It's an Ease of Access setting that tries to filter out inadvertent key presses. Are you using Windows 7? If so, try this:
    Click the Start button, and type "ease of access" into the search box. Click Ease of Access Center from the list of results.
    In the Ease of Access main window, scroll down and click Make the keyboard easier to use.
    Under Make it easier to type, find Turn on Filter Keys. If the box next to Turn on Filter Keys is checked, un-check it.

  • Missing letters when report ist printed

    Hello,
    I have a problem with Crystal Reports XI R2
    We use it with a Visual Basic 6 application.
    Sometimes, not always some letters are missing or cutted like:
    "Hello World" -> "He  o Wo ld"
    Or an "U" is only printed like "u" or just lower bow "_"
    Or on "Seite" the dot from "i" is missing

    Different Printer (HP Laserjet, Virtual Printer from "Filedirector")

    Hello, thanks for your tips
    I will try one after another.
    I have downloaded SP3 from the directlink above.
    I have found SP2 here-> https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/businessobjects-downloads
    But I cannot find SP1 until now. The login on http://service.sap.com/bosap-support
    doesnt work with the Forum Login (!?) So I have to call the german SAP support for that.
    I will give a few more details that might be interesting
    We used CR8 in our Application. Now with new Computers there were problems with printing to a virtual network printer. CR8 hangs unreproduceable. So we upgraded to CRXI. Now its the test phase and the hanging CR did not appear anymore. But now we have the problem with the missing letters. Because I am new to CR and especially CRXI I just brought CR to work and did not install any SPs.

  • SWT Virtual Tables display problem.

    Hi all,
    I have a display problem with virtual tables.
    In an Eclipse RCP application, I have a view that shows two tables, T1 (showing users) and T2 (showing the roles).
    I also use a content provider and a label provider for each table.
    When I debug, I can see that both tables are filled correctly.
    But when the application comes up, T1 is empty and T2 is filled. I am missing the users in the table T1.
    The interesting thing is, that the table do not very differ much from each other, T1 has one column more and of course IUser object as data per tableitem, whereas T2 has IRole objects as tableitems.
    Even when I debug on event listening in T2, I can get the T1 data of each tableitem, but it doesn't show?!
    My question is, where can I look at to solve this problem?
    Just theoretically, without posting source code.
    Thanks and regards,
    Tom

    Hi,
    I found out that the table T1 seems to miss the user object in each of the tableitems data fields.
    Now I am confused.
    According to the model, when does it get filled with it?
    Because the Labelprovider
         public String getColumnText(Object element, int columnIndex) {
              String result = null;
              if(element instanceof IUser) {
                   IUser user = (IUser) element;
                   if(columnIndex == 0) {
                        result = user.getName();
                   } else if(columnIndex == 1) {
                        result = user.getUserId();
                   } else if(columnIndex == 2) {
                        //This is a checkbox Member
                   } else if(columnIndex == 3) {
                        //This is a checkbox Manager
              return result;
         }gets all the correct data.
    Is it removed afterwards?
    Thanks and regards,
    Tom
