Display problems out of the box

I just bought a 24" imac with 2 gigs ram and the 7600 gt card. After finally getting the computer delivered to me, I plug it in and turn it on only to experience a completely black screen. The computer is getting power just fine as I can here the setup assistant doing its thing and the kyboard lets me control the sound, but I can see none of it. Ive reset the ram , even though that shouldn't be necessary. I've also followed all steps listed under the apple support page. Does anyone know what the problem could be, and is their any way of fixing it short of taking it in to the local apple store or sending it in for repairs.

Welcome to Discussions, nixon737!
Did you try a PRAM reset?
To reset the PRAM:
1. Shut down the computer.
2. Locate the following four keys on the keyboard: Command (Apple logo), option, P, and R. You will need to hold these four keys down simultaneously in step 4.
3. Start up the computer.
4. Press and hold the Command-option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination after the startup chord sounds, but before the gray screen appears.
5. Hold all four keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup chord for the second time.
6. Release the keys.
This might reset a couple of preferences which will then need to be reset - Startup Disc, Sound, possibly Energy Saver.
[edit-
Do you hear the startup chord after you power on? If not, return the unit to Apple, as the lack of it is a "big trouble" diagnostic. Between the PRAM reset, the SMC reset, and the Support items you mentioned having already done, there are only 2 other things that should work - and they are able to work due to the ability of the install disc to supplant OS X and control the operation of the computer:
1. running the Apple Hardware Test, which is done by inserting the grey-labeled Install Disc 1 into the optical drive, shut down, power on and holding down the "d" key from after the startup chord until the spinning progress indicator appears beneath the Apple logo; and also
2. booting from the Install Disc 1 by repeating but holding down the "c" key instead of "d" key so that you can access Disk Utility from the "Utilities" pull-down at the top of the second sceen of the OS X Install Process (which can then be quit after using Disk Utility). After accessing Disk Utility, open the "Help" menu for Disk Utility Help.]

Can you use the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display straight out of the box, or do you have to charge it up fully before you can use it. I do not want to damage the laptop by misusing the battery.

Attach the charger and start charging the battery to 100%. The good news is that after you have connected the charger, you may start using the MBP as well.

• X4100 LOM problems out of the box

Straight out of the box I am having trouble connecting to lom. Using a serial cable I can connect and see the lom service start after power is connected, when the login line appears i loose control of the session. Any ideas? I don't know what the IP address is set to so I can't setup via browser.

Well, I took my 16GB iPhone 3g (white) back to the Apple Store today and the Genius looked it over -- said that's the first keyboard problem he's seen come in and mentioned that it was strange the "dead zone" on the touch screen was vertical since, according to him, most "dead zones" tend to be horizontal areas. He said the touch screen matrix is laid out in three horizontal bands on the screens.
Bottom line: he gave me a new working iPhone 3g.
He did mention that all returned iPhone 3g's are being sent directly back to the iPhone 3g engineering team for full "autopsies", not just sent back to factory for refurb. He said they want to fully diagnose and understand what defects are out there so as to solve the root cause moving forward.

• MSI Media Live problems out of the box! :(

Hi everybody!
I have recently bought an MSI Media Live from ebuyer with the hope if replacing and improving on my old MegaPC.
Out of the box all looked well and started to fill the barebones box with all my bits and pieces. Bought an AMD AM2 chip for it and put in some memory from another PC DDR2.
The machine on switch on started the obligatory BIOS checks and off we went. Or so I thought.
First of all I placed my Media Centre 2005 cd in the drive and the machine point blank refused to boot from the CD drive. After a while I thought I would stick XP Home in and do an upgrade from within. The XP Home disk came up with the line about checking system configuration and then hung. This happened repeatedly.
Next plan was install Media Centre on the HDD using another PC. So swapped the RAM back out and the HDD and went for the install. This went without a hitch on the other PC so after the install swapped the RAM and HDD back into the media live.
The Windows startup screen then came up but would get stuck in a reboot loop before windows started. If I asked to boot into safe mode the machine would start. This leads me to believe it is a software issue. While in safe mode with networking, managed to get all the updates I could find for both windows and MSI. However still can't get the machine to start in anything but safe mode which is driving me nuts because I can see what the machine is capable of but just can't get into it!
If anyone has any ideas they will be much appreciated. Have run RAM checks and swapped all parts out to make sure they work in other machines which they do and obviously there is nothing wrong with the install CD.
Just seemed to have reached a dead end!#
Thanks in advance.

You can't install Windows on one PC and then transfer the drive into another PC, it won't work unless the other PC is identical, due to differences in hardware abstraction layer and core system drivers.
Have you anyway of trying another optical drive? If you can't, you may want to return the unit to Ebuyer for replacement

• 3 problems out of the box!

1) accelerometer: in the iPod, I have to turn it 360 degrees in every direction before it recognizes the true orientation and flips to it.
2) freezing: I thought Macs werent supposed to freeze. I go to Phone, and it freezes on my contact list - cant scroll, cant even tap a contact thats showing and call. Cant switch to other Phone functions such as Favorites, Visual Voicemail. I had to reset to get it to work.
3) Battery - after full discharge, full charge, lasts 40 mins
What crap! Over the phone they said the best they could do was send me a loaner. No, I want a new one now! Im going to the Apple Store today to, hopefully, get a replacement. Will post on update.

You have `14 days to return it..I have several problems with mine out of the boxx and 5 days old..I'll be returning it for a credit, than purchase a new one right there to make sure that phone gets the 14 day return policy. I was told the 14 days starts on day of purchase so if they exchange one for you that phone will techinically only have a few days left on it for the return..it's a gotcha..I've had 2 bad phones out of 3..but beat the dead line on the 14 day return..so tomorrow?..another phone goes back for a full refund and I'll purchase another one..I'll be thier little pain in this that's for sure..they put a product out there before it was ready in my opinion

• Keyboard problems out of the box with iPhone 3g

My iPhone 3g is showing strange keyboard behavior, typically starts when launching the SMS app.
The "P" and Backspace keys, the keys on the rightmost part of the touch area, are non-responsive. The issue will correct itself after 15 mins or so, but it's become very annoying.
I've made sure I'm not touching any other part of the screen as a possible cause. Showed it to and had three other iPhone users see what I see and they all agree it seems like a bug, just to confirm it's not me.
Took it to the Apple Store and of course the iPhone behaves when showing it to the Genius.
Anyone else experienced keyboard problems with 2.0 firmware?

• BAD DISPLAY Fresh Out Of the Box

My shiny custom configured Aluminum MacBook just arrived from Hong Kong. The display is all garbled images and text.
It was fun to pay for expedited shipping on a junk laptop and to have Apple tell me it will be a little while for the whole return/exchange process to be completed.

I ordered this lappy minutes after it was released. It was defective and Apple helped me send it back. Now, I am in the back of a long queue for replacement. The resale value on my current MBP tanks daily. Once it arrives to my house I have to have it forwarded to me. I know it will all be over in a few weeks. I wish Apple would make some noble effort to appease customers they strongly inconvenience. The solution would be to offer better model selection at the retail level. I am done with the online Apple store.

• String problem using B1ITM2B1ITM out of the box B1iSN 8.8 scenario

Hi all,
I am testing the out of the box scenario for Item syncronization (B1 to B1)
It works fine except for one thing:
If the ItemName contains xml special characters like < > & in the xml message they are correctly converted into xml rappresentation < > amp; but when the message is sent to the destination company doesn't happen a reconversion to the readable rappresentation.
What do I have to do to have the exact rappresentation even in the destination company? Should i have to put translation tags into the xsl transformation? If so which they are?
Thank you all in advance, Regards Luca.

Solved...
I found a bug in the conversion to xml format:
> is uncorrectly replaced with >
so I have replaced:

</ItemName>
with:

Open current iTunes on your computer. Connect iPhone to the computer with the Lightning USB Cable. Hold both the Home and Power buttons for about 20 seconds until iTunes recognizes the iPhone in Recovery Mode. Click the Restore button of iTunes. If still problem, make Genius reservation or set up Sevice and take or send to Apple for resolution under Warranty.

• MacBook Pro 15" i7, out of the box w/problems

My MacBook Pro is brand new out of the box, less than 48 hours, and I'm already having issues with it.
Before the first 24 hours out of the box, I got a message for a forced shut down (see image here: http://www.mactropolis.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/macosxkernelpanic.png)
The following day, after coming out of sleep mode, I found it with a scrambled screen.
I haven't installed or transferred anything onto it whatsoever, but just been using Safari. I've heard that people are having problems with using Safari with webpages using Flash, but that might not explain the forced shut down.
I ran disk utility after the forced shut down and a few permissions were fixed but there were no other problems. After the scrambled screen, I ran an extended hardware test twice, and no problems were detected
I'm not sure there are any grounds for taking this to the Genius Bar, but I'm rather irritated for this to be happening when I haven't really started using this computer for more than browsing the internet.
Any suggestions? Might it be as simple as using something other than Safari?

The solution is extremely simple, return it for another. If you bought it from an Apple Store it should be no problem. If you bought it from an Apple Reseller you need to deal with them directly.
Don't wait, do it today.

• Out of the box macbook pro 15" c2d problems

evening all,
right out of the box, i have had kernel panics every time i boot my new macbook pro c2d. i have also had the awake from sleep problem some people seem to be having. i am also unable to install either boot camp, parallels, or vmware. i have tried winxp, 2000 and vista in every combination. every time i try it corrupts the volume beyond repair and i have to wipe the hard drive and reinstall os x. i am getting worn out by banging my head against the wall. i thought this stuff was supposed to be easy. when i went to check on the firmware version for my macbook pro 15" c2d i noticed that i have the boot rom version and the smc version installed for original 17" macbook pro not the c2d version. it won't let me change the firmware back to a 15" c2d. it is showing MBP12.0061.B03 1.5f10 and i should have MBP22.00A5.B00 1.12f5 according to apple specs.
i will try to reset my smc, but the pram can not be reset via the usual keyboard combination because it just doesn't work like it did on my powerbook.
i am also going to try disabling the hibernate mode as suggested via terminal.
i am going to try trashing the plist preferences for the .AutoWake, PowerManagement and the systemuiserver.
i also have the problem when reinstalling os x several times that the optical drive gets stuck reading the original system disks and i have to start all over again. whew!!!
btw, i am a hardware tech but this is too much of a waste of time.
any other suggestions are very welcome.
macbook pro 15" c2d Mac OS X (10.4.9) tricked out powerbook 15"

here is an update for everyone, or at least you will get a good laugh out of it. I sent the macbook to applecare to be fixed and I just got it back. they replaced the harddrive and restored the os.
guess what? I turned it on and it had a kernel panic! then I tried to set up a user account and it had a ......... kernel panic! I had to laugh, what else can you do at this point?
they didn't fix what i told the tech support guy was the biggest issue on this machine. the boot room version is still MBP21.00a5.B01 which is for the 17" C2D. it is paired with the smc version 1.12f5 which is the version apple has listed for the 15" version. tried to change the boot room but it tells me it does not need the correction. everyone knows best yet i still get ....... kernel panics.....! lmao
here is the last kernel panic log if anyone is interested:

I just got the Nokia Lumia 1520 from Germany and I took it out of the box all good and pretty, but when then I go and charge it since it didn't turn on at first (I have this british charger and a european adapter) and put it in the phone. I left it for a while to charge since the windows start button started flashing and now when I turn it on, it shows the Nokia start screen, then it shows that it's charging and then there comes a blue screen that flashes and it vibrates after that. Again the Nokia start screen shows and the blue screen flashes again, vibrates and Nokia screen again and so it goes endlessly!
I have never gotten it to start it just flashes the blue screen and turns off again

WHAT DO I DO HELP!

Sounds to me like the charger you are using is not powerful enough. Are you using the charger that came with the phone? You mentioned adaptors etc so thought you may be charging with another charger. You could also try charging with high output usb chargers, typically ones for tablets.

• I just took my new MacBook Pro out of the box and the screen will not work. Display is, black no life to the screen at all

So I just ordered my first Mac book Pro. I took it out of the box and hit the power button to do the start up and the screen will not work at all. I shut the computer off and back on again. I plugged it in and unplugged it. I've done everything I can think of and the screen still stays blank with no life at all

Is the battery charged? Press the little button on the left edge, near the front. If no green dots, no charge.
Does it charge? When you connect the MagSafe charger, does the pilot light on the plug light up?
Does it actually start? Should sound a chime after you press the power button on the top/right corner. If it chimes, does the Caps Lock pilot light when you press it?
If it starts and Caps Lock does flash on and off, have you tried pressing the screen brightness control for awhile? F2 turns up the brightness, may be turned fully down.
