Display quality differences between different user accounts

My friend's MBP 15 (2009) has a noticeable difference in display quality between his main account and his guest account - in his account colors are 'blown out' more, and the detail of fonts on menu items or the aqua buttons are not as clear.
We've tried copying over any plist items which mention 'display' from Library>preferences, and both accounts use the same color profile (the standard one). What else might explain the difference?

Check System Preferences > Universal Access > Seeing tab. Check that the enhance contrast slider is all the way to the left. (normal).

  • How do I share photos and music between different user accounts on the same macbook

How do I share photos and music between different user accounts on the same Macbook? i.e. I want all to be able to access family photos when logged into their respective accounts. Same goes for the iTunes library. Hope this is possible...
    Thanks!

To give other users read-only access to your iTunes library, use the Sharing features of iTunes. Sharing works over the local network as well as on the same computer. See the built-in help for details.
To give others selective access to your iPhoto library, you have the option of using iCloud Photo Sharing, if the privacy implications don't bother you. The images will be stored temporarily on Apple servers.
If you want to give full read/write access to more than one user, see the support articles linked below.

There is a way to share the library without moving it to a secondary volume. If you really need to do that, ask for instructions.

  • Sharing libraries between different user accounts on same Mac

I am having difficulty sharing the same library between two different user accounts. I thought it would be simple matter of allowing the second user account access to the itunes folder in the first user's home folder and then changing location of second user's library in Advanced menu of second user's iTunes. However, second user iTunes still acts as though it is pointed at its default library. Can anyone help me here?

thanks, zevoneer. apparently, I gave up too early in my own search. I'm trying it now - the copy process is taking some time. Well, I had hoped to narrow the access down to only one other account but at least this should provide the access that is needed.

  • HT3819 How to use homesharing between different user accounts on the same iMac?

    Hello careymp1017,
This can be achieved, but will not utilize HomeSharing. Further information and steps can be found in the following article.

  • Sharing iTunes library between different user accounts

I recently purchased my imac and made the leap from the PC world. I set up another user account aside from the general administrator and followed the steps of having itunes folder go to the users/shared folder in an effort to be able to share files between users. I am able to now share the library between users but find that when I load new songs onto one user I then need to go into the other user's account and manually copy the new songs from the shared folder into itunes.
Anyone know how I can have it so when I load songs into one users itunes they will automatically appear in library of the other user's itunes without having to take the step of copying/importing?
Also when I was downloading and importing over 4000 songs my imac had the transparent black box which informed me I needed to shut down my computer at least twice. Should I be concerned? I'm assuming this notice is very similar to the "blue screen of death" known in the PC world so that can't be good especially when I paid the extra $ for fully loaded imac.
    Thanks for the help!

That is not normal at all.

  • Sharing files and iCal events between different users (accounts) on one Mac

    Hi,
I have a new iMac with Leopard. I have two accounts on this machine: one for myself and one for my girlfriend. I want to share files with her such as iPhoto events (so I don't have to import photos twice), iCal events (so I don't have to send her an email to synch our calendars), music from iTunes and other files.
Does anyone know how to easily do this? I have tried the drop folder for sharing but it only appears across a network if I am logged in and won't transfer to different users.

  • How do I share applications between different user accounts?

Word is stored on my user account but when my girlfriend logs in she cannot get to Word or all Itunes music is not availiable....HELP

Move the Word (or Office) folder from your user/Applications folder to the Macintosh HD/Applications folder. There it can be accessed by all users.
    iTunes Music is slightly different as that's user-oriented, but you should be able to allow other accounts to use it by opening iTunes and selecting iTunes/Preferences in the menu bar. Select the Sharing option and choose what to share;
If the other account holder then checks the 'look for shared libraries' option, she should be able to access whatever music you choose to share.

  • Share address book between different user accounts on same computer

my wife and i share one computer, but just started to use separate user accounts to keep our mail accounts separate. all our addresses are stored in the address book on my user account. is there a way to share that account with her so that she has access to all the addresses. this would be much easier that have 2 address books to keep updated.
i do have a .mac account and i have only activated one email address.

thanks for your response andrew. i've tried that but address book asks for the .mac name of the person you want to share with. i don't have a family pack .mac subscription only a single one. so would setting up an email alias for my wife accomplish this? is there a way to do this bypassing .mac all together simply because we're using the same computer?

  • Sharing on the same machine between different user accounts

I've always used a single user account and all for of us (2 kids, my wife and I) shared the same user account. The other day I upgraded to Tiger and decided to create user accounts for everyone in the family. I wanted everyone to see all the songs and all the playlists. So I placed my Music folder on one of my firewire drives and created aliases for each user pointing to that common Music folder (also opened up permissions, etc) and it appears to work.
Problem: if one son has iTunes open in his account, and I switch to my account, I can't bring up iTunes "some kind of lock error". I can believe that.
So, what is a better way to do this? I do want to share all the music, so if I rip a CD in my account, all the other users will see it. But I could live with each user having their own set of playlists. It would be nice if I could "import" playlists, so they could get all of their playlists to start with.
Is there a better way to do this?
    Thanks,
    Alfredo

  • Wallpaper switch to solid color after log-out  / log-in between different user account on the same iMac

On my iMac, i created different accounts for the member of the family. When i switch from one to an other account and go back to the first account the wallpaper change automaticly to a solid color wallpaper. I have tried all the solution described on different forum for Mac, but no one can fix the problem. This had known under 10.8, but i have hoped that will be not the case under 10.9 !

  • Print quality difference between iphoto and aperture...?

when ordering books, is there a print quality difference between using iPhoto and Aperture? or are they sent to the same lab?
it's possible i may have some setting wrong, but when i order a book using iphoto, i never really feel the quality is that great. it's good, i just feel it could be a lot better. the print quality sort of reminds me of newsprint, albeit high quality newsprint. similar sized prints made at home on my basic 3-in-1 printer look better.
    thanks...

Previews are what you view on your display. When you import a photo into Aperture (and I'm pretty sure iPhoto as well), your computer automatically generates a preview for quick viewing. The original images are stored in your library, but it is the preview that you see.
In Aperture, you are able to set the size and quality of these previews. When sharing photos between Aperture and iPhoto, the process is as follows:
Let's say that your images are stored in Aperture, but you also want to be able to view them in iPhoto without taking up too much room on your hard drive. Essentially, if you were to import the originals into iPhoto as well, you would be storing two exact, yet separate copies of the same image on your hard drive. As you are aware, with large images (whether JPEG's, and especially RAW) this would put quite a tax on your storage capacity after not too long.
So, you have your images in one or the other (in this case Aperture), but you want to play around with them in iPhoto. What you can do, is open iPhoto, go to the File menu and then select, Show Aperture Library. This will open a window with all of the contents of your Aperture Library. You can then drag any images you want into iPhoto . The only thing is, you are not dragging the original JPEG's, but rather, the previews of those images. If you have those previews set to a lower quality (again for capacity concerns), you will only have lower quality and lower detailed images in iPhoto. These images might not be ideal, or even suitable for printing high quality prints. The previews that you generate in Aperture though can be adjusted to be extremely high quality with no size limits.
My thinking was that since you mentioned Aperture, it sounded like you had experience with working with it and with ordering a photo book through Aperture. I guess you were saying that you ordered via iPhoto, weren't happy with the quality and were wondering if Aperture created books were better.
Anyway, if this is the case, I cannot answer that for you. I have never ordered a book through Aperture. If the quality of your images is good, you should be able to get a decent product no matter where you order it from. There is not doubt that the materials used and the print shop that does the work makes a difference, but if your images are good, you should still get a decent product through iPhoto. Perhaps iPhoto isn't the way to go though if you have had poor experiences with them.
If you haven't used Aperture yet, I would highly recommend it though aside from the photo book aspect of this thread. It is a stellar product.
    I hope this helps.

  • Multiple iTunes 8 for 2 different user accounts on one Mac: Possible?

    Hi,
My MacPro has 2 different user accounts on it. Mine and my wife's. I have all of the iTunes music, pod-casts and iPhone Apps set up in iTunes 8 on my user account. The problem is that I want to be able to sync our iPhone 3G which she uses in HER account so that I can sync and save her 3G address Books contacts and calendar events.
I just updated my iPhone's firmware from V2.0 to V2.1 and I backed the phone up in iTunes 8 first. Much to my surprise ALL contact and calendar data was LOST. Am I correct in thinking that the only way of preventing this is by also having this data on my MacPro's iCal and Address Book?
We only use this single iPhone.

  • How do I share new purchased itunes content automatically between multiple user accounts on the same computer?

I have 3 different user accounts set up on the same computer. Whenever one of us buys or downloads anything, how can I get that to be automatically available for each of the other users? The main itunes library is stored at users/shared/itunes, but this doesn't seem to help much. As far as I can gather, Home Sharing only works between computers, not between users on the same computer......

    camillafromchichester wrote:

is that the iTunes folder or just the iTunes media (or music) folder ?
what should work is if the entire iTunes folder were in the shared folder and iTunes on each user account would access the same library file
launch iTunes on each user account (one at a time) while holding the option (⌥) key, click on choose library when prompted, and select the iTunes folder you copied to the shared folder.
if user A adds content, this will be available to the others immediately when they access the library, however, only one iTunes at a time can use the library. if you're using fast user switching, user A must quit iTunes before user B can fire it up.

  • Can you transfer files between two user accounts on the same macbook pro?

Can you transfer files between two user accounts on the same MacBook Pro?
Specifically, I used the Migration Assistant to move music and photos from my old PC to my new MacBook.
Somehow, I missed the fact that it was creating a new user account when it was doing this.  So none of music and photos are in the user account I originally set-up.  Instead, all these files are now in a different account.
I'd like to consolidate all my files on the one user account and delete the other one.
Is this possible and, if so, how do I do it?
    Thank you.

you can crop files from one account to another using the Public Dropbox which every user account has.  Log into the user that has the files you want to move, then drag the folder you want to the new users' dropbox:
I suggest a small scale test on a few files first before moving gigabytes of files.
