Display quality in Editor

I am a new user of PSE 8 and
have the following problem:
The image display quality is noticeably poorer in the Editor compared with the same image quality in organizer and a number of other jpg display programs(eg. Windows live photo gallery, Canon editing software). The effect is slightly washed out and lower contrast images. This was particularly noticeable working with old scanned black and white photos.
I am running 64 bit windows 7, Nvidia graphics, 23 inch Samsung hi def LCD monitor.
Any suggestions?

Thanks Anthony,
You mean that implementing a way to save higher quality image files also=

means that the resolution of the diagram needs to be changeable as a =
whole? So one should be able to insert higher quality bitmaps into the =
diagram once this is fixed?

  • Poor full screen display quality

I am in a dual-display environment. One display I have set up as a full-screen display for images as I edit them in Aperture. They show up in a dismally poor quality; a grid-like low resolution. When I zoom in on them, the issue goes away. It's just when an image is displayed in its entirety. This is a 20" Cinema display. Note that there is no display quality issue with Photoshop. Thanks.

Which picture is the refence picture?
I have been noticing that the same image in different programes does look different, colour and tone.. Now I understand that as each programe reads the data differently. BUT with Aperture I have noticed this is the case within aperture and this is crazy.
The photo is different in the loupe again different in the full frame version and yet again with in the grid. So when using the loupe is it possible to compare images enlarged from the grid and so on! and on. and the exported images look diferent again when viewed...
Strange as it is all on one monitor!
Or am I the only one to notice this?

  • Display quality changed

This is weird... My iPod nano spontaneously reset while I was using it, and after that I noticed that the display quality seems to have gone down. Pictures that previously had smooth color transitions now appear dithered. It almost looks as if the bit depth of the display decreased. Has anybody seen anything like this?? Am I going nuts here??
Resetting the iPod didn't fix this. Replacing the images did not fix this. Help?

Agreed, reset the Nano but use the iPod updater to get fresh code back in. A clickwheel+button reset continues reusing corrupted code.

  • Image display QUALITY controll bar/change/modifi

    Hello
the bridges display quality of jpegs and raw images is awfull!!!
i see blockiness in all of my images, how can i watch my photos like this??
    there is no crispness!
u should made a picture display quality controll bar like speed-------quality
    so the user can select!

    Frosti,
This request has been made many times. The development team are aware of the need for 100% previews. However, such a feature, if provided, will not be available until at least Bridge 2. Based on previous upgrade cycles that would be late 2006, at earliest. In the meantime you might consider providing more information on the type of images you're trying to preview (i.e. Raw, JPG, etc).
Also, I would suggest that you soften the tone of your comments otherwise you'll find yourself with Read Only access.

  • Dynamically Changing Display Quality for Children

I am interested in changing the display quality for a child SWF that is loaded in at Runtime, and changing it's Display quality based on user interaction.  Anyone know if this is possible?

    Sorry i talked to fast...
In fact I think there is only one instance of the Stage object in a running player. So the only way to do this would be to rasterize your Sprite and store it in a BitmapData object, changing the quality of the stage juste before rasterization and then restoring back after. There is something in the doc that talk about this kind of thing: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/as3/mobile/WS4bebcd66a74275c36c11f3d612431904db9-7ffb.html

  • Where are display quality pref's in CS6 AI?

What happened to the display quality preference in AI CS6? I've got banding in a blend on screen, and can't tell if it's artifact of display or truly a problem with the blend.

    rexprints wrote:
But my question was about rendering of gradients, not necessarily in the EPS file format.
    That sounds different in #2.
Anyway: Banding on screen will not necessarily mean banding in print. Talk to your print service provider, because it depends on their equipment and of course on how exactly your stuff is printed. There are lots of different techniques and machines around.

  • Satellite P870 *PSPLFA-01C001) display quality is dull

    Hi all,
Love my new laptop but the screen /display quality is really dull.
Games aren't jagged they just aren't crisp.
The webcam video quality is shocking. It's probably a setting that can fix this, if so can you point me in the right direction to fix this please as it's annoying me
    Thanks,
    Maxy

    Youve got this notebook:
    http://www.mytoshiba.com.au/products/computers/satellite/p870/psplfa-01c001/specifications
It has been released with an +17.3 Toshiba TruBrite High Definition+ Widescreen TFT Active Matrix XGA 200NIT CSV (1600 x 900) resolution and LED backlighting+
The screen resolution of 1600 x 900 is really good (better than display with 1024x 768px) and the display brightness can be changes in 8 steps:
1 means lowest brightness, 8 means highest brightness.

  • Ps CS6 Request: User control over display quality versus performance (modified request)

It would be great if there was user control of the zoom threshold at which display quality is sacrificed for performance.
I mean the threshold which determines the maintaining of bit-depth in the calculation of the composite which is displayed when working with 16-bit documents, and the accuracy of displayed layer effects in documents with any bit-depth.
The threshold currently seems to be approx 64% zoom - not much of a zoom out when dealing with large images destined for print.
Please provide a control for that threshold in Preferences > Performance.

Thank you for posting, conroy. I have an example of the inconvenient effects of Photoshop CS6 allowing the zoomed-out composite to be innaccurate.
Here's a real-world application for everyone to see.
In my below example you're not seeing a 16-bit doc, just 8-bit, BTW.
Top C has Layer Styles. Bottom C is a copy that's been merged with a blank layer, to effectively "collapse" it's Layer Styles into a normal single pixel layer.
The difference is staggering. This file is a massize 28x36 300DPI (8,400px  X  10,800px) poster.
So on something like this, while working and tweaking everything you work worked zoomed out so you see enough of the document to be able monitor it's evolution.
I was working at 25% zoom (depisted above) for a quite a while. Got everything good, but then zoomed in only to see that each letter actually looked like pretty bad compared to what the zoomed composite was telling me.
I had to revise all letters.
For hi-res print I guess I better get used to zooming in and out constantly, so I know what to trust.
I wonder if this issue will ever be rectified. Like Conroy suggests, maybe a setting that allows users to voluntarily sacrifice performance in favor of a more accurate composite?

  • Nikon .NEF file iPad display quality

    Hello,
I have added some RAW .NEF Nikon photos to my iPad and notice the display quality is pixelated somewhat and terrible to look at. I read somewhere that the iPad apparently takes the thumbnail image and not the actual photo when importing.
Can anyone tell me if this is the case or am I doing something wrong? JPEG photos are displayed correctly, I really don't want to convert all my photos to .JPEG before adding to my iPad.
    Thanks

    Same problem here:
I use the ipad alot for photo editing. It used to work fine with .nef files before I 'upgraded' to Ios 5.0.
It all sounds nice, syncing your photos to iCloud, but it downsizes your .nef files to 500k in the process now when syncing to the iPad. So worthless for photo editing or for me even just viewing photos on the ipad. When importing from the camera directly it seems fine, untill you want to sync with a pc or iCloud and sync back again. Only option I found is to not sync with iCloud for photos and convert all to .jpeg. This is a downgrade for me not an upgrade. I do not use iCloud because it can't handle my needs and now I am forced to convert all to jpeg. Photogene worked fine with .nef, for photo editing .nef is of much better quality than .jpeg. Why have a 64gb drive if your not allowed to have big .nef files on it?
Can I somehow get back to Ios 4.x?
Or someone knows if other devices like samsung (sorry Apple) handle .raw pics?

  • Terrible display quality on Zoom Out

Just upgraded to PS Elements 9. In most view>zoom levels (including the presets "Fit On Screen" and "Fill Screen"), the images display terribly pixelated on the screen. I understand that zooms in excess of 100% will naturally pixelate, but I have this problem at almost every zoom ratio UNDER 100% as well. Only a few "benchmark" zoom levels (like, 25%, for example) display nice and sharp. Of course, 100% displays fine, too. All other zoom levels (whether manually-entered or using the preset zoom levels) are highly pixelated. I didn't have this problem in my old PSE2.
Is there a setting somewhere I can use to improve the display quality of zoomed images?
    Thanks.

If your not seeing the pixelation at 25%, 50% or 100% then there's probably nothing you can
change. I suspect if you were to open the images in pse2 and view them at the exact same
viewing percent, then the same thing would happen.
Pse2 had more screen space for displaying images so they may have been bigger
and appeared less pixelated. For example in pse2, most of my images are displayed at 50%
when opened, where as pse9 displays them around 47% which appears pixelated until
    set to 50% view.

  • ThinkPad E440 Webcam poor display quality! Please Help

    Hi all,
Anyone have the poor display quality webcam from ThinkPad E440?
This is the first timeI bought a Lenovo product: a ThinkPad E440 with i7 cpu few days ago (I am currently using ASUS UX31). Everything is great except that the webcam have extremely poor quality:
    1. When I use the camera application, the photo is grainy with extremely poor resolution
    2. The video chat at night not just very poor in resolution, it actually turn into Black & White at night, in the morning it have color but still extremely poor display quality. Attached photo is taken around evening, no color was detected, all in black and white......is that the normal quality from ThinkPad E440?
I have updated all my drivers again and again.
I am not sure if it is a defect or it is buid to be that poor? How can I troubleshoot before send for repair?
    Product model: 20C5CTO1WW
The webcam is intergrated camera HD720p
The video card is Intel(R) HD Graphic 4600
    Please Help! Thanks.

  • Display quality differences between different user accounts

My friend's MBP 15 (2009) has a noticeable difference in display quality between his main account and his guest account - in his account colors are 'blown out' more, and the detail of fonts on menu items or the aqua buttons are not as clear.
We've tried copying over any plist items which mention 'display' from Library>preferences, and both accounts use the same color profile (the standard one). What else might explain the difference?

Check System Preferences > Universal Access > Seeing tab. Check that the enhance contrast slider is all the way to the left. (normal).

  • Picture display quality in Photoshop is bad

I bought a new camera and bought Photoshop Elements 9 with it.  I took a bunch of pictures and was very disapointed with the camear's picture quality (or so I thought).  I then returned the camera.  As I was awaiting my new one, I decided to post to some forums about my poor image quality with the camera (A Lumix DMC-LX5) to see if maybe the camera was actually defective since it gets such good reviews.  As I was posting the pictures, I realized that they looked great when displayed in Firefox.  So I opened the images in every program I had installed that could display pictures and found the following:
    Good
    IE9
    Firefox 4
    Microsoft Office 2010
    Paint
    Quicktime Picture Viewer
    Windows Media Center
    Bad
    Photoshop Elements 9
    Windows Picture Viewer
The image below (best viewed in one of the "good" programs), shows a good image on the left opened in Quicktime Picture Viewer, and the bad image on the right open in Windows Picture Viewer (picture looks exactly the same in Photoshop Elements).  The funny thing is that the screen shot picks up the diffrence which can be seen in any of the viewers now while the original picture only displays poorly when viewed in the "bad" viewers.
Example below:  The asphalt and the grass in the picture on the right look very blotchy. The image on the left is what it looks like to the naked eye.  I have dozens of pictures where this same thing can be seen.
I wouldn't care if they all were bad but Elements but seing as how I'll be looking at them mostly in organizer, I realy need to get this resolved.  Any guidance would be appreciated.
One Note:  This is significantly more noticable with the DMC-LX5.  I don't notice this with my D90 images in RAW (the DMC-LX5 was high res jpeg).

The fact that pictures look right after disabling color management suggest that there may be a color profile problem.
Your 'good looking' softwares are not color managed (Firefox has an option to do so...)
Photoshop Elements is color managed, that is able to recognize a profile and use it.
When you open an image, in the lower bar showing the zoom %, you have another setting display drop down menu. Click on the little black triangle and choose 'Document profile'. Tell us what is shown : sRGB, AdobeRGB or whatever. Also, is there an option to select those profiles in your cameras ?
Normally you should never use the option 'No color management'. Especially if you shoot raw : in Elements, your raw files will be considered sRGB if the Editor preference is set to 'Always optimize color for computer screens', and it is considered AdobeRGB if it is set to 'Always optimize for printing'.

  • Display quality for proofing & moving around in doc

I've used CS Review with several clients already, and while everybody seems to like the concept, most feel that it's just not good enough yet to replace our previous workflow of sending out PDFs and having them marked up and sent along to the next person. Reasons:
    1. Inability to print or save comments (discussed amply in another thread) This is HUGE.
    2. Quality of text display - even when you zoom in, the type looks very thin. I'm doing page layout for print publications, and people have gotten used to the way the type looks in a PDF. My editors complain that the text is hard to read unless they zoom way in, and they like to see more of the page when they're reading. And, the lack of scrolling ability makes it hard for them to edit at a zoomed in size.
    3. Clunkiness of the zooming and scrolling tools. Several clients have had to ask me how to move around in a doc once you zoom in. I had to tell them about moving the little blue box in the mini navigator window. When you hover the cursor over these icons there is no tool tip text to tell you what they're for. Everybody expects there to be a hand tool that lets them just move the page around on the screen, but it doesn't. They don't like having to go to that separate panel and then back to the text window to make their edits.
It really feels like this is the original version of Bridge (CS2? CS3? I forget) - and I hope we don't have to wait for CS6 to get a version that works well enough to make it worth using.
To reiterate - everyone likes the IDEA of CS Review, but so far it doesn't work well enough to replace our PDF workflow.

Yes, large display - I'm outputting to a Panasonic
AE900 projector and putting up a 90 inches diagonal
    picture.
nice setup.. OSX with Front Row is a good platform for HTPC. Unfortunately the picture quality is not as good as what you can obtain with PC's. but it is still plenty good. Then again, if you will watch DVD's only, I would recommend getting an upconverting DVD player (Oppo is a good brand for 200 bucks aprox). Again, check out the avsforums, you'll find plenty of useful info and very helpful people.
    Gmas.
