Display remains black

Iphone 5 . The screen remainds black and do not respond after trying to hard reset nor through restore.
iphone receives calls but can not go trough the screen since is black and do not respond

One thing you might try, and that has proven helpful in similar situations before, is to disconnect the display and then switch the system on, and let it boot up. Once the drive has stopped and sufficient time elapsed to suggest it's running, then reconnect the display.
This should cause the display resolution set in MacOS to revert to default.

  • Mac Pro display remains black after start up.

My 2008 Mac Pro display remains black after start up.  It is plugged in properly and the light comes on, but the screen stays black.  It first started doing this about a week ago, but after a manual restart or two, it would start up properly with the display working.  Today the display has remained black every time I've tried to start up.  Any suggestions for troubleshooting would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Safe Mode uses a very simple way of talking to the screen -- it does not even load the screen driver, and it uses a very common low resolution.
If it does not work that way, it simply does not work. You need a replacement graphics card.

    Hi Aparana.rahul,
The beeps during the startup of your MacBook Pro indicate that it may need to be serviced. See this article for further information -

  • External LG Flatron display remains black (rMBP13)

Hello there! (my first question of the community. I'm new to the Mac)
I'm trying to connect my rMBP13 (OS X 10.9.3) received a couple of weeks ago to my desk display (LG Flatron W2486L) through apple's DVI-mini display port adapter.
    Here is the results:
the MBP freezes a couple of seconds (I guess normal) after plugging in the mini display connector in one of the thunderbolt ports, but nothing happen on the external display (no signal). The MBP sees the display: from "system preferences>displays" I see the MBP sees the external display and recognises the model "W2486"; but it seems to me that the display doesn't see the MBP...
I've tried to restart the MBP, but with the same result.
(I've ben using the display through the DVI port with my old PC, so it works).
    Any idea?
    Thank you

    Problem solved.
I'd to set properly the the settings on the display (source).

  • IPad works, but display remains black! Fixed now.

Hi, this isn't a question but a maybe solution in case anyone else is experiencing this issue I just experienced.
The iPad worked but the display showed nothing. The backlight came on and if I took a screenshot it would momentarily show what was onscreen. Tried to fix it with the usual methods - Reset. Restore. DFU mode. Restore again. No luck. Eventually I just slapped it hard on the back and it worked

Basics from the manual are restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as NEW.  If you try ALL these steps and your phone still doesn't function properly, you'll need to bring it to Apple for evaluation and possible replacement.

  • IMac 17" Flat screen - display remains black

    Hi,
I've a IMac 17" Flat screen, and after he went into sleep, I cannot wake up my screen...! When I put on the mac, the screen becomes a little less black but that's all... Using external screen (video out on the IMac) gives good results on the other screen... Anyone knows what happens?
I've already reset PMU, PRAM is zapped (3 times), check cables, ...
    Thanks,
    Bart M.

    Hi All,
The 'black screen upon wake from sleep' condition is on my daughter's 20" iMac G4 as well. This computer is a refurbished one ordered from the online Apple Store. Right out of the box it had the same problem as Brian described - electrical noise going across the screen (though only intermittantly) and gradually got worse until we now have only the black screen when it wakes up.
After a few calls, Apple Care said this is a 'known issue' with refubished 17" and 20" flat panel iMacs. They believe it is a software problem and they are seeking a solution. They recommend to disable sleep mode until they find a fix. No word on how or if we would be contacted when such a fix is available.
A local CompUSA (an authorized Apple repair center) tech said to bring it in, because it sounds to him like a problem with the inverter board. If so, it would be covered under the warranty. I wonder if this is a weakness with these iMac models. We'll be taking it in within the next couple weeks and will report the results.

  • Macbook Pro Display Blank/Black - Replaced LCD

Hi all - I recently started working on a Macbook Pro for a coworker that had dropped their MBP. The LCD was broken, but the computer was still functional, as I saw that the OS booted normally. So, we ordered a replacement LCD.
The first LCD was dead (or so we thought), so a replacement was given by the LCD distributor. Same deal.
Dead monitor, I have tried the following unsuccessfully:
    -reset PRAM
    -reset PMU
-new inverter, new cable - neither worked
    Any thoughts?

OK--so this is an original MBP. You are in the late 2008-early 2009 section of the forum, so I am going to request that your post be relocated to the original MBP section.
Have you tried an external display? If you get good graphics on an external, it will be further conformation that the graphics chip is OK.
I am puzzled as to why the original display worked, but two separate replacements did not. I have heard of the brightness indicator getting stuck all the way to the left, so that the display remains black. Can you see the desktop at all by shining a bright light through the apple? If so, maybe you could go to System preferences>Desktop and see if the slider is stuck, and if so, move it to the right.
    Good luck!

  • HT4113 my ipad screen remains black and wont cut on... what steps can i take to fix it

My Ipad screen randomly went black and wont turn on....Help

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430

  • My iphone 4s is charged and I can tell that its on but my screen remains black. Are there any tips that can help before taking it in to the apple store?

I've already tried turning it on and off as well as pressing the sleep/wake and home button together to restart but nothing has happened :/
This is also the second time its happened to my phone as well, the first time it miraculously turned on by itself after an hour

    Hi katherian!
I have an article here that can help you troubleshoot this issue:
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2802
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. Have a good one!

  • MacPro & 30" Cinema Display - Display stays Black at Boot/Will not light up

    I just rec'd a MacPro 3.0GHz/8GB/4-500GB and a 30" Cinema Display.
After connecting all of the cables, when I start the Mac, the display remains black. I have also tried another video card and a 23" Cinema Display as well.
The indicator light on the display blink 3 times, and then a short pause. I have reset motherboard, pulled all ram and re-inserted, and swapped video cards and locations.
I have a wireless keyboard and mouse, so resetting PRAM is out because I can't even get to the Register Bluetooth Device screen!
Any ideas on getting things started?
    MacPro 3.0GHz/8GB/4-500GB   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   MacBookPro 2.0GHz/2GB/160GB

The primary card is the std 7300. The other card is an NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500 (PCI Express) from a recently purchased Quad 2.5 G5, that Apple said is compatible.
I have tried the cards in all onfigurations and in all possible slot configs as well, utilizing both DVI ports for each trial.
I have pulled/re-inserted the RAM, and all cable and drive connections.
Still get two short and one slightly longer blinking indicator light on the display, whether the Mac is powered on or not.
Both displays work with other computers attached.

  • X1C: Display always black at first start-up

    Hi all,
I have a somewhat strage issue with my relatilely new X1C. Since about a week I always have to start-up the machine twice. On first press of the power button it lits up, but the display remains black. Usually, a shutdown and second attempt works flawlessly.
Occasionally it also happens that when pressing the power button there's some brief activity (lights on, fan blowing shortly) and then the X1C shuts down again. This can happen a dozen times and is pretty annoying, but rare.
I suspect this might be a BIOS issue, even though I have not changed anything there. Windows and installed Lenovo apps are all latest releases / fully patched.
I should mention that I bought my X1C (3460) with Windows 7 Pro and did the Microsoft upgrade to Windows 8 Pro right after unboxing it and removing crapware and unnecessary ThinkVantage tools. Still waiting for the Lenovo Windows 8 apps to appear in the Windows store, though..
    X1C (3460-2SG) , Windows 8 Pro

    Hi, teezeh
This may be a BIOS issue, and an update was released very recently, so I would try updating that to see if it works. Everything else may be patched, but sometimes updates like this are not released immediately to the public by way of Windows updates. The latest version is 2.50 and came out less than a week ago. You can find it here. Try it and see if it helps.
    Best,
    Adam

Difficut to say why it won't work, but my guess is your vintage iMac (about 2007) was never designed to output via HDMI. Your adapter appears correct (thanks for the Amazon link) so if you want to persist, you can contact Amazon and request and exchange to check it. But I suspect you will need to use VGA or if your TV has it DVI which would mean using a mini-DVI to DVI adapter.
One last thought is you could invest in an Apple TV and then do it wirlessly. That would work too but requires and AppleTV to accomplish it, of course you can use the AppleTV for streaming other data too including video, photos, music etc....
