Display resolution settings not storing since upgrading monitors
We have (2) Mac Pros and since upgrading to larger monitors we have been having issues with the resolution settings not "storing" in display preferences. The computer setups are slightly different, and the monitor sizes and make/models are both different, but the problems are the same:
1) Mac Pro DVI out > VGA switcher > Monitor VGA input
2) Mac Pro DVI out > VGA switcher > DVI switcher > Monitor DVI input
(*Note - I know this whole setup seems ridiculous, but it's the way each of the rooms were hard-wired)
With both machines the problems intermittently vary from the resolution itself changing at random when turning on the machine each day, to the desktop background being about 2/3 the size of the screen, while all of the icons and rest of the desktop being normal sized/extended to the edges of the monitor as it should.
It seems that if we change resolution to anything else, and then change back to the desired resolution, that usually solves the problem.
Does anyone know why these settings won't save?
(*Note - we recently upgraded to Lion, but the issue was there before and after the upgrade.)
You must close the window and save changes to keep them.
You may have a problem with Disk Permissions -- the file may not be available to you for writing.

My Parallels program is now not working since upgrading my MacBook Pro to OS X Mountain Lion. I was wondering if there is a solution to getting this working again?
You just need to update it to the latest version. See:

Nike+ ipod not working since upgrading to ios5
I used to link my phone to the Matrix machines which are Nike+ iPod compliant. It used to be fine, I used to run, the runs were never displayed as historic data on the phone but when I synced my phone with iTunes it used to update the website. This worked wheter I used the treadmill/ cycling machine etc.
Since upgrading to iOS5, nothing has synced with the Nike website. After my run a message comes up saying "Workout Completed. You can send your workouts to the Nke+ website in Settings". Am not sure why or how to get this working again.
Any help would be appriciated.Sorry ignore this. I just went into Settings, went to the Nike+iPod section then at the botom there was an option to send workouts. I had pressed this before but it didn't work. It did today.
Difference today is that I'm trying from home with WiFi. Who knows, just glad its working! -
Email not readable since upgrading to Mountain Lion
Since upgrading to Mountain Lion, I am not able to read my email in the upgraded version of Mail. All my emails ON MY MAC are readable as normal, but my Inbox emails are there and I can read the single line information (From, Subject, Date Received, Mailbox) for all my emails but when I try and open one I get the revolving spindle wheel and Loading message. My sent box appears empty unless I send a test email and then all my sent emails appear but again when I try and open one all I get is the same as for my inbox emails. If I quit and reopen Mail, the inbox does not change but all my sent emails "disappear" again. Is this an indexing problem or do I need to rebuild my mailboxes. Although I have back ups, I do not want to take any action to make this situation worse. Any help would be appreciated.
Hi,
When you start Messages fro the first time you are asked for an Apple ID
When this is verified and entered it appears in Messages Menu > Preference > Accounts and is Enabled.
The App should have also picked on on those iChat Accounst you had before.
These should be Enabled if they were when you last used iChat.
Exactly which "Accounts" are logged in can be seen in Message Menu > Accounts and will include the iMessage "Account" and Bonjour.
In the Window menu you will see CMD +0 for the Messages window and CMD+1 for the "Buddies" window which is a combined list at this stage.
Go to the Preferences > General Section and Untick the "Collect all accounts into one list".
This will give you separate iChat type Buddy lists.
You can check if that account/Buddy list is set to Invisible or if in the Preferences > Accounts > Security you have settings that will block some people from seeing you as On line.
You are saying Buddies can see you as On Line which implies they are still sending to your AIM based Names (@Mac.com is a valid AIM Screen Name)
I am not sure from your post if you are trying to iMessage their email IDs thinking they are Apple IDs and that they are using Messages as well.
There is no Buddy list for iMessages side
No-one can tell you are "On Line" until they have your details in the "To" spot in Messages with the correct iMessaged contact info (iPhone Number or Apple ID)
Obviously an Apple ID can be an email or look like one.
In some cases they are also valid AIM Screen Names as well.
In the case or the @mac.com name you may have linked this Apple ID to iMessages as well.

Component Status not updating since upgrade from SCCM2012 SP1 CU3 to SCCM2012 R2
Since upgrading to SCCM2012 R2 three days ago, in the Configuration Manager console when we go to Monitoring > System Status > Component Status and view the status messages for any component, there are no entries since the time of our upgrade. All
components are this way.
I've checked the logs and information is flowing through them and everything else seems to be running smoothly, but there are no updates to items in Component Status. There was only one warning in the R2 prereq checker, the ConfigMgrPrereq.log shows:
<11-08-2013 15:33:30> ERROR: Site server does not have create child permission on AD 'System Management'
<11-08-2013 15:33:30> WARN: Site server does not have delete child permission on AD 'System Management'

I have confirmed via ADUC and ADSIEdit that the primary site server computer account does have full control over the System Management container.

I was looking in the statmgr.log file and spotted an error about a bad SQL transaction. Some searching on this lead me to this Microsoft KB article: http://support.microsoft.com/KB/884123. Even though it is for SMS2003 it lead me to check the
\inboxes\statmgr.box\retry\ folder and sure enough there were ~5100 .sql files waiting. As per the instructions in the document, I stopped the SMS_EXECUTIVE service, deleted the oldest .sql file and then restarted the service. The file count in
the \Retry\ folder is dropping and status messages are flowing. I now just have to wait for the 6 days of status messages to process.
Thanks everyone for your assistance :) -
Auto-Detect Screen Resolution Does Not Work Across Multiple Monitors With Different Resolutions
Hi,
The Acrobat Pro DC (15.007.20033.2203) auto-detect screen resolution feature does not work with multiple monitors at different resolutions. Acrobat looks fine on my hidpi primary laptop display (Razr 14" 2014) but is completely unusable if I drag or extend the application to a standard HD resolution secondary monitor. Dragging Acrobat from my primary desktop display to the secondary display causes the UI elements to become 2x as large as they should be and makes Acrobat unusable.
Is there a way to make Acrobat auto-detect the display that it is currently on?
Thanks!
-DonaldTo prevent it from happing again, you can
1. go to the Mouse preference and turn off the scroll zoom feature.
2. go to the Universal Access preference and disable the zoom features. -
URGENT: Bluetooth not found since upgrading to Snow Leopard
I have a MBP which I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard, running 10.6.2.
Since upgrading I no longer have bluetooth on this machine.
I have tried the following without success:
1. Installed temp monitor + smcFanControl to cool chipset down (temps at 39C)
2. Reset PRAM + NVRAM
3. Restarted (with / without power adaptor), Shut down, etc
4. Installed latest drivers and software
5. Deleted bluetooth*.plist
6. tried changing sleep mode to hibernatemode 0
Bluetooth does not appear in the system preferences, or the toolbar or anywhere on the system. Bluetooth diagnostics does not locate it either.

Browser Lab Not Loading Since Upgrade
Setup:
Mac OS 10.6.4
CS5 Version 11.0 Build 4964
Browser lab was working great until I recently upgraded DW to allow for HTML5 and Multiscreen (11.0.3)
Now when I attempt to view pages in lab, it does not connect and I am left hanging. For some reason it occasionally seems to connect (showing me the test screen I expect) but then throws me through to a home-page, https://browserlab.adobe.com/en-us/index.html#. Browser lab appears to have my name showing so it must know who I am?!? - confused
Thx in advanceThx for prompt response Mark...
Mark_Rausch wrote:
Ok, I'm not sure exactly what's going on there or why it would have been affected by the update, but I'll try to help.
It sounds like your workflow goes like this:
Dreamweaver is open, but BrowserLab is not. You click "Preview" from DW and it opens a new browser window for BL
Sometimes there seems to be no connection, in which case you log in to BL and see no screenshots. Does the DW extension tell you it's not connected?
Sometimes there is a connection, and you get screenshots, but shortly after it switches to the home page.
Is that all correct?
This shouldn't matter, but what browser is BrowserLab running in?
When it switches you over to the home page, what happens when you click the Sign In link there?
Can you try opening BrowserLab manually while DW is running, log in, wait for 30 seconds or so, and see if the DW extension has a green dot and a message that says "Connected to BrowserLab"? If it does, what happens if you click Preview from DW then?
Thanks,
Mark
Workflow as follows:
Dreamweaver is open, but BrowserLab is not. I click on Preview in Adobe BrowserLab and BL window opens telling me "preparing for preview"
Window continues to tell me, "preparing for preview" and so it hangs, and hangs and nothing more... (most of the time)
I click on BL help from BL window, my browser opens at, http://help.adobe.com/en_US/cslive/cs/using/WS58a04a822e3e5010-7b304dbd1263439ac1b-8000.ht ml
I scroll down page to "log into browser lab" click on, http://browserlab.adobe.com
I am taken to BL home-page, browser them proceeds to expected test page (for my specified browser tests)
Browser displays page but without any CSS etc.
So I persist, and when requesting to view in BL without closing DW the page will display. If I quit every time I open DW I have to go through the entire same routine, whereas prior to upgrade- I clicked on preview in BL and within moments, I was... well, previewing in BL!
I am running Safari 5.0.2
You asked: When it switches you over to the home page, what happens when you click the Sign In link there?
I have NOT signed-in at any time since upgrading, I had BL "remember me". Hmmm... should I sign-out and sign-in again as a one-time-deal? (I'll try it) -
Node.js: running "npm help term " not working since upgrade to 0.8.3
Running
npm help <command>
usually displays npm's man page on <command>. And if the the command doesn't exist, npm will show a "top hits" list of related commands.
But since upgrading to 0.8.3, running it will always show the "top hits" list, even for existing commands.
After digging around I found that the problem is the man files that npm uses in /usr/lib/node_modules/npm/man are gzipped (with filenames like install.1.gz) which breaks npm since npm is expecting ungizipped filenames.
After further digging, it seems that the gzipping of npm's man pages was only added in node 0.8.2-2
So, basically just checking if anyone has this same problem (and confirming it's not a problem with upstream) before submitting it to bugs.archlinux.orgThe man command should handle gzipped or non-zipped man pages just fine. I'm not sure if there is an official standard, but packages are free to use gz'ed or non-zipped man pages - they both work just fine. If it's not an official standard recommendation, though, gzipped man pages have become so common that they are almost a 'de facto' standard. But package managers (at least pacman) do not gzip the man pages. This is generally handled upstream or in the packages Makefile.
But, more to the point for the present issue, while man can open either format of page, if you give a full path, you must include the extension. Example:
$pacman -Ql bash | grep man
bash /usr/share/man/
bash /usr/share/man/man1/
bash /usr/share/man/man1/bash.1.gz
bash /usr/share/man/man1/bashbug.1.gz
$ man bash #works
$ man /usr/share/man/man1/bash.1.gz #works
$ man /usr/share/man/man1/bash.1
man: /usr/share/man/man1/bash.1: No such file or directory
No manual entry for /usr/share/man/man1/bash.1
.... er ... I just installed this again and did some tinkering. Most of what I've said is true (and perhaps someday useful) but currently irrelevant. Npm does not use `man` at all. It just echo's it's help information directly to the terminal.
Perhaps the syntax has changed since the last version you used, but it seems to be doing just what it is supposed to:
$ npm help
Usage: npm <command>
where <command> is one of:
... <snip> ...
npm <cmd> -h quick help on <cmd>
npm -l display full usage info
npm faq commonly asked questions
npm help <term> search for help on <term>
npm help npm involved overview
Specify configs in the ini-formatted file:
/home/jmcclure/.npmrc
or on the command line via: npm <command> --key value
Config info can be viewed via: npm help config
[email protected] /usr/lib/node_modules/npm
$ npm help cache
Top hits for "cache"
npm help cache cache:23
npm help config cache:20
npm help folders cache:7
npm help pack cache:2
npm help index cache:2
npm help changelog cache:1
(run with -l or --long to see more context)
$ npm cache -h
npm cache add <tarball file>
npm cache add <folder>
npm cache add <tarball url>
npm cache add <git url>
npm cache add <name>@<version>
npm cache ls [<path>]
npm cache clean [<pkg>[@<version>]]
Note in the first output it specifies that "npm help <term>" is only supposed to search for the term and return the top-listing list while "npm <command> -h" is the syntax to view the help information for a given command.

Hi There,
I have a MacBook Pro (late 2011) and a Thundertbolt Display. I have recently upgraded to Yosemite. Since then Thunderbolt Firmware update 1.2 keeps reappearing and I cannot complete the update (with and without display connected etc.). Any advice? Thanks.Hello HTG65,
If the Thunderbolt Firmware Update 1.2: Keeps reappearing try reinstalling it following the steps in this article.
Thunderbolt Firmware Update 1.2: Keeps reappearing and Thunderbolt ports and Target Display Mode may not work - Apple Support
To resolve this issue:
Shutdown your computer.
Disconnect all Thunderbolt devices.
Wait 10 seconds.
If you are using a Mac mini with a Thunderbolt display, reconnect the Thunderbolt display directly to your computer via the Thunderbolt port. Do not connect other Thunderbolt devices at this time.
Restart your computer.
If the Thunderbolt Firmware Update 1.2 is offered, download and install it and restart your computer when asked. If the Thunderbolt Update is not offered, the update has installed correctly.
Reconnect all Thunderbolt devices.
Take care,
Nubz -
IPhoto will not open since upgrading to OSX 10.8
Hi, has anyone come across this since upgrading to Mountain Lion. iPhoto will not open and I get the below error message. I was previously on OSX 10.6 with all updates applied to the OS. I upgrade the iPhoto app under iLife 11 on OSX 10.6 and it worked fine. Since I upgrade to the new Mountain Lion OS, iPhoto will not open. I tried to rebuild the library using the command and option (alt) key but it will not give me the option to rebuild. Should I attempt to delete the application and reinstall? Any assistance would be gratefully received. Many thanks.

Firstly, after reinstalling iPhoto, it requires me to upgrade via the App store, and then I get the below message. The odd thing is that my iphoto version is 9.2 whilst the upgrade from the App store refers to version 9.1. The version line item per the below message appears to have changed from the initial message in my first posting here.

since upgrading phone to iOS 5. I have an old macbook pro and it is running snow leopard OS 10.6.8. I have a minimum of 40 recurring events per week, several of which change. I use the information to schedule future appointments based on those changes and it's causeing a major problem to not have the changes sync. Any help would be very much appreciated.
Did you try to replace the calendar info on the phone with the one on your Mac? You can find this option in iTunes/Info pane, Advanced section.

Wifi syncing not working since upgrading to iOS 6
Has anyone had an issue with and found a solution to wifi syncing after upgrading to iOS 6? I have not been able to get either my iPhone 4 or 3d gen iPad to sync since upgrading last week. I have the latest version of iTunes. I've tried disabling wifi syncing and the closing/restarting iTunes. I've tried turning my iMac's wifi off and on. The devices show, but will not automatically wifi sync.
Thanks in advance!I have a variation on that problem. I upgraded my iPhone 4s and my new iPad to iOS6. No problems synching the new iPad to iTunes wirelessly. My iPhone will not sync wirelessly unless I turn it off, then on again. However, if the phone goes out of wireless range, then returns, it will no longer sync wirelessly to iTunes. Otherwise, the wireless connection appears to be working, e.g., I can connect to the internet.

Hey all, I'm not sure if this is normal but thought I would ask. I've done every kind of disk usage measurement tool I can think of (du, windows file sizes, osx file sizes.. etc).. all say that I am using 15gb of space on my 55gb bootcamp partition..
