Display Ripple Effect

Well I finally have Debian installed on the G3 iMac and everything seems to be working good except for a ripple effect when I drag a window or scroll up & down in the browser.
It looks like a wavy motion or ripple. Do anybody know a solution? I've had this happen awhile ago but I can't remember what I did to fix it on a PC. I don't remember it doing this when I had Ubuntu installed.
Any ideas?
Thnx.

I have started it from being off and same effects.
I believe its more of a driver issue or maybe the horizontal/vertical rate numbers.
Since I was installing Debian PPC Linux, a minimum install, I had to reinstall xorg because of another issue. Once I reinstall xorg, I was able to get gui but with this wavy/ripple effect.
This happen once before with a x86 pc but I can't remember what I did to fix it at the time.
Thnx.

  • Screen display is blurry or ripple effect when scrolling

I have a 15 inch 2.53 Pro and when I am in Safari the screen has a horizontal ripple effect across the screen when I am scrolling. This is slightly worse when I use the vertical scroll bar vs. two-finger scrolling. The overall effect is that the screen is slightly blurry and hard on the eyes to read until the scrolling is stopped. This is a new machine and I have just installed Word suite for students. Any suggestions? I have an iMac that is a few years old and this does not happen on it. Thanks.

Mine too have this on my new MBP ( September 2009).
It's more evident in Safari, but show also in finder while scrolling. It is not related to font antialiasing because enlarging page text in Safari (cmd +) the blurry effect is still there.
I'm very disappointed of lcd screen quality, too much fatigue to eyes.
Could be considered a screen hardware defect?

  • Display ripples

I work for a large enterprise and we currently have ESR 17 out on the estate and are about to upgrade to ESR 24
When doing some testing with ESR 24 we have noticed a lot of rippling on FF when using some of our internal web based applications.
We have double checked and this also happens on FF 17
Can you please advise what settings can be used to reduce / remove this rippling effect. It is only really there when scrolling up and down on web pages.
This does not happen when opening up the web based applications in Internet Explorer.
Platform is Citrix (Presentation Server 4.5 / Windows 2003) We have also tried some later more powerful thin clients and this problem looks to reduce / go away. The fact it works in IE showing same colours would say display driver / hardware is all good which leads me to think its firefox config related. Vanilla install, no plugins etc...
Please let me know if you require any more info.

This is probably an issue with hardware acceleration in Firefox.
You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.
*Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
You need close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.

  • My vertical slide casts a ripple effect 2

    Since June 09 I have sent my MacBook Pro back to Apple to repair the ripple effect in my display, and both times they kept it for weeks, and did not correct the problem. They told me each time they could not see the problem. Many others can see it, even the Apple store genenous bar tech could. Others on this discussions group have had the same problem...allow me to add 2 of there comments;

I just posted the same type of question about my new 24" iMac. I took the first one back and got a replacement. It did it too. So did the third and fourth one. However, the display models at the store did NOT have the ripple effect, so it is obviously not normal. We need to let Apple know they have a problem.>

Add me to this list. I have the new 15" MBP bought on June 19th and I just started noticing what is best described as horizontal ripples that go across the screen while scrolling (vertically) in a browser (Safari or Firefox). In my case, the issue is light when scrolling using the trackbar and worse when scrolling via the bar on the right side of the window. The best example for me is when I go to Apple.com and then to the Mac tab (section). When I scroll I can see very noticeable ripples just below the halfway point of my screen. The ripples are all the way across the screen. I have a Genius Bar appointment for this Friday July 3rd. I'm wondering if the 14 days includes the day of purchase. Not happy at all about this.
Any suggestions, my warentee will run out in a month and when I upgrade to a new laptop in a couple of years, with this problem it will be worthless.

Your best bet may be to call Apple and ask to speak to Apple Customer Relations and see if they can help you with this. It would be helpful to your case to get the name of the Mac genius that witnessed the problem, as he would be able to verify that it was there, even if the others Apple guys didn't see it. It would also be advisable to get a case number if you have not already done so, as this will help establish that the problem first occurred under warranty. If you can establish that the problem occurred under warranty, then Apple will honor your warranty until the problem is resolved, even if the warranty lapses in the meantime.
    Good luck!

  • Time capsule causing screen flicker/"ripple effect" lines on MBP

When I wake my MBP up from sleep mode, time capsule sounds like it's waking up to, then it does a backup and when this happens this flicker/ripple effect/wavey line quickly races across the top of my screen a few times then goes away.  Has anyone ever heard of this?  Also is it normal for time capsule to be warm all of the time?

From what I've read on different posts regarding video card issues and the early 2008 15" MBPs, or "affected models", Apple seems very selective at what they'll honor for repair. Hopefully my MBP will be repaired under this recall, but am not holding my breath.
My 15" MBP (early 2008 Penryn) has developed video card issues I suspect. It doesn't do the dark screen as others have which Apple is more likely to repair under the recall, but random batches of lined patterns show up on the display, it will blink sometimes, then it will totally lock up forcing a hard shut down with the power button.
I took it into a local Apple Authorized Service center, they ran the NVIDIA test on it which it passed, showing that the "known" defect wasn't the issue with my computers video card. Well something's screwed up with the video card most likely. They recommended taking it to the Genius bar at the Apple Store which I plan to do. It's less than 3 years old, Good grief!
I've been an avid Apple user for over 16 years, and have hardly ever run into hardware issues. Guess I've been lucky. But how Apple will handle my MBPs issues is unknown to me. Hopefully it will be positive, but am not holding my breath.

  • Satellite Pro L450D - Slight ripple effect on external monitor

I am hoping someone can help me. Have just bought a new Satellite Pro L450D and also bought a separate lcd screen (Viewsonic) to use with the laptop.
When using the lcd screen there is a slight ripple effect across the background when you look at the screen which is not nice on the eyes. Its not the screen that has a problem as I have tried it on other pcs/laptops and its fine. Have also tried another screen on the laptop and the same problem occurs. However, this problem does not occur of the laptop screen itself.
Does anyone have any idea how I can solve this problem.
    Thank you
    Sam

    Hi
It seems that the native resolution of this screen is 1920 x 1080.
I use the same resolution on my external wide screen monitor.
But I have connected the external screen to my notebook using the DVI cable.
I tried a HDMI cable but the picture on the external screen was not clear usign1920 x 1080. I have no idea why.
Anyway I have tried the external monitors DVI port and the picture was perfect!
Seems your monitor supports only RGB analog port.
In order to view real HD videos, picture you would need an HDMI or DVI port.
Of course its possible to use an RGB analog port as well, but there are differences in picture quality.

  • Ripple effect in Safari browser when scrolling pages

When scrolling through a web page in safari using my new iMac Core Duo 17" there is a "ripple" effect in the middle of the page I'm scrolling through. This happens when I use the mouse to drag the scroll bar on Safari. Happens no matter what web page I'm on. This didn't happen on my iMac G5.
    Any else have this problem?

The threads I saw on this are locked... I had no problems with anything UNTIL the 10.4.5. update - now I have the Safari "ripple effect" on almost every web page. I have to select / highlight the "rippled" portion of the page in order to view it properly...Wonder why this happened to my machine after the update? The update seems to have fixed this problem for others...

  • Screen ripple effect when scrolling after installing Mavericks?

Since downloading Mavericks some three weeks ago, my screen ripples (wave effect) when scrolling.

  • Ken Burns rippling effects on photos

When importing photos into iMovie, if they are set to Ken Burns, as well as zooming in / out or moving, they often undergo a ripple effect. It doesn't happen on all, but certainly on about 50% of them. This is fine if it is just water as it looks as if the water is actually rippling / moving, but it also has the same affect on everything in the photo, so any buildings or people also ripple. Is there any way I can remove this rippling effect but still keep the zoom / movement function?

Yes you can do this with vertical photos.
Click on the little icon at the top left of the photo thumbnail in your project. This will bring up the photo editing panel.
If you want the vertical photo to show up full screen, click crop, and pick which portion of the vertical photo you want to show.
If you want to see the entire vertical photo, click "Fit" and the entire photo will be shown, but there will be black space on either side.
Now click on "Ken Burns" to add the motion effect.
    When finished click "Done".

  • Best way to create water ripples effect?

Hi, I need to add water ripple effects to an existing video, the water ripples need to go over all the subjects and the floor in the videos (so that's easy).
The hard part is trying to find a good generator for water affects. Currently I'm trying to use the Caustics Generator in Motion along with the Underwater Filter. I added Gausian Blur to soften it. But it just looks a bit too sharp (is there any way to Anti-Alias?). I'm not exactly going for realistic, but I'd like something that looks as if the water ripple affect was created during the filming (using an effects light) and instead of post.
    Any other suggestions?

  • Where's the ripple effect???

    Greetings all,
I just installed my Radeon 9800 Pro Mac Edition GPU and it is a god send. Halo is playable, with DVI everything is SO clean and clear but! No ripple effect. Anyone care to comment on what I have done wrong? I would really like to get that little feature up and running if it is available. Thanks for all the input and help.
    Cheers,

    You're welcome!
A person would think there would be 'ripples' everywhere with all the hype that Apple gave that one item. Core Image is more than that though, especially with high end graphic applications like Motion, etc.
It's nice to have a decent video card, it sure makes the ol' Mac seem to come alive. Keep having fun!

  • Text ripple effect

I'm a very new After Effects user, and I'm really just experimenting with the software.  On effect I’d like to attempt is a text effect which simulates a ripple, or at least that’s what I think it would be called.
Basically, imagine some lettering lying at the bottom of a swimming pool, and you’re looking at the text from above the surface.  It would appear the letters are moving/distorting in a wave motion/ripple effect caused by the light diffraction through the water.
Could AE reproduce this effect, and if so, how do I create it?
    Thanks in advance,
    Steve

Yes. distortion effects like - erm, well - Ripple, Wave World and a few others can easily do this. Just apply them to the text layer and play with the values

  • How do I create a pond ripple effect?

Hey guys, I'm designing a wrap for a hummer. My client wants it to look like the hummer has a force field and show a few bullets hitting the truck and causing a ripple. I googled this and found out that the "zig zag" filter under "distort" does this. Only problem is, this option is greyed out on my comp. It could be that my project file is half a gigabite (required for the size of printing on the truck). Could someone please help me figure out how to use this option or even suggest another program I can use to do this? I can't think of any other way.
This is the design I want the effect on
This is the effect I want.

    Hi again.
Let's start at the beginning. Perspective. Shock waves propogate in concentric circles from the point of impact. Viewed at a 90 degree angle to the plane being struck, the shock waves will appear exactly as that, concentric circles, not ellipses. The side of the Hummer is vertical, so the viewing angle of a typical observer will be about 90 degrees. Creating concentic ellipses will make it appear as though the shockwaves are out of plane with the side of the Hummer.
My first post was a demonstration of principle. How to create the basic skeleton. What happens next depends on what you think the shock wave should look like. I wouldn't think it would look exactly like a high energy impact on a force field. A drop falling into a pond is not exactly high energy. They will both have concentric rings, but the distribution and profile of the waves would be different, I would expect. A physicist could properly inform us.
Anyway, I repeated a slight variation on the process on a 732mb file. As you note, the Zig Zag filter was not available. I didn't spend time perfecting the wave frequency and such.
    1. Make a circular selection where you want the shockwave. (Make it elliptical if you're still not convinced about that.)
    2. Copy the selection to a new layer. Ctrl+J is the easiest way.
    3. Ctrl+Click on the layer thumb to create a transparency selection.
    4. Convert the selection into a Layer Mask. Layer>Layer Mask>Reveal Selection.
    5. Select the Mask thumb. Ctrl+Click on the Mask thumb. You should get a circular selection.
    6. Apply the gradient (radial) to the selection from the center. (You're painting the gradient onto the layer mask.) It will look like nothing happened.
    7. Apply Bevel/Emboss to taste. Now you will be able to see the rings. I used the Ring-Double gloss contour to tart it up.
    8. The Ripple effect is available at this file size. I applied it to to taste.
The number and spacing of the rings is determined by the number and spacing of the alternating 0 and 100 percent transparency pairs on the gradient applied to the mask. It's endlessly adjustable. If you want, you could double down with another layer, as in the tutuorial. The actual appearance of the rings can be modified for days just in the effects pallet. When you add Ripple or other effects to the rings, I would think you could get just about anything you want. Without too much trouble. It all depends on what you think a projectile striking a force field should look like. You can paint on the layer mask to lighten or darken portions.
But I just had another thought. With the Marqee Tool set to rectangular, select a work area surrounding where you want the shock wave. Copy it to a new layer. Create a new document and paste the new layer into it. Then you should be able to use the Zig Zag effect as in the tutorial. Then paste or drag the layers back into the original document and align to the original work layer. Delete both work layers. I just tried it and it worked for me in my 732mb file. But using the Zig Zag pond ripple seems to offer less flexiblity than the layer mask method. If assigned this task I would use a mask.
    FWIW.
