Display screen resolution

I have a 2008 MacBook Pro. Over the last couple of weeks the display resolution has been changing to grainy with no seeming factor stimulating the change. I will be away from the computer and can come back to a blurred screen. The change can last anywhere from minutes to days, then it will change back to clear (resolution 1440 x 900), only to switch to blurred (also 1440 x 900) in a few days again...! Also, sometimes, the display will have green/ purplish hue that will flicker for a couple of minutes leaving the screen blurred.
I have tried changing resolutions, colour calibrating, run hardware diagnostics but nothing works.
Any suggestions?

desktop is so big cant see but one folder, and theres no way to get to anything else there ... or even view the areas i need to ..to get to any 'APPLY' button......
When a window has the focus, press Alt + spacebar to open the control menu at the upper left. Then press M (for Move). That will enable you to use the arrow keys to move it. Press Enter to leave this mode.

How to set Dynamic screen resolution in flex..?

I am developing a flex application in adobe flex4. to set the application height is 100% width is 100% and using <flexmdi:MDICanvas> to set the height 780 ,so application get displayed on normal window correctly., But i try to press f11 key the screen size is expanded at the time application size is set exactly, MdiCanvass size is not expanding on screen resolution.
My question is how can I make sure that the application should look uniform across different platform/different browsers and different monitors to display screen resolution auto adjust in mdi canvass also.

M92P Screen Resolution Reverts to 1024x768

We have an issue with our desktops where the screen resolution reverts to 1024x768 on an apparent screen refresh.
We are using Windows 7 M92P ThinkCentre desktops with dual displayport, extended display output on L2251X's (both at 1680x1050). The graphics driver/chip is on-board Intel HD 4000.
It all works fine until the screen refreshes, an example being when a UAC prompt appears. The monitors will flip (so the primary display will become display 2), display 1 will change to 1024x768 and display 2 will change to 800x600.
If you go into Control Panel > Display > Screen Resolution and try to drag display 2 back into it's correct position whilst setting the correct resolutions, clicking apply does nothing. If you try this multiple times (anywhere from 3-10 attempts) it will eventually apply.
Is this a memory issue? We have 4GB of memory installed.
Is it a driver issue? We have the latest Intel HD 4000 driver and latest BIOS (up to this post's timestamp).
Any help would be appreciated!

Have you updated your machines to the latest BIOS, found here? Looking at the ReadMe of the BIOS update, it does provide some assistance with another resolution issue and it may help. Also, how long have you been facing this issue?

After target display mode, iPhoto reports an error, "The current screen resolution is not optimal for iPhoto."

I have the 27-inch (late 2009) iMac with mini-Display port input. Whenever I return from Target Display Mode, I get the attached error message and iPhoto becomes unresponsive (the window is still active, but clicking on it produces the error/warning system sound), I have to Force Quit it. The current screen resolution is not optimal for iPhoto (sometimes the error message is a little off the screen in the lower left and only the top of the window can be seen. This also seems to affect iTunes at the same time (by resizing the window to be super small), but without the error message or unresponsiveness.
Has anyone else gotten this problem, and or might know of a fix?

Yes, I have the same problem. I have checked the resolution in Sysyem Preferences - display and it is properly set to the highest resolution (which is recommended). I have no idea why this is ocurring but it is annoying.

What is the difference between different types of displays : 15.6 " TFT HD (1366 X 768), 15.6 " FHD (1920 X 1080), 15.6 " HDD (1366 X 768) ? I am planning to purchase a 15.6 " Thinkpad but I am not able to decide which type of display to get. FHD display costs $170 extra, and how much the pixel density will affect the screen resolution in 15.6" ? I know in 15.6" screen, 1366X768 will have a PPI of around 101, around how much PPI we need generally ? I am going to use laptop for work purpose, coding, deveopment etc. I am not a gamer and will play and watch movie ocassionaly. So, what type of display will suit me ? Any help will be deeply appreciated.

If you are doing desktop publishing, and use a clear plastic ruler to take measurements off the screen, a 19" (18" viewable) ideal resolution at 72 dots/inch and 4:3 aspect ratio yields 1036 by 784 pixels, which is never supported. The closest one down from that is 1024 by 768, adjusted to a picture width of 14.2 inches by height of 10.6 inches. this will give you a really good "what you see is what you get" display, and can save you time and trouble.
That said, it seems nowadays that folks Not doing desktop publishing set them to the highest resolution possible, and then increase the default browser text size until they can read it. If you choose not to maintain a 4:3 aspect ratio (4x number of pixels horizontal to 3x number of pixels vertical) you will have to live with whatever distortion is introduced into your work, including movies and pictures of real-world objects from the Web.
Tests show that refresh rates above 75 Hz reduce flickering for almost everyone, but that there is wide person-to-person variability below that rate. So set it to 75 Hz or higher, if your display supports it.
In any case, the highest refresh rate that works with your display without making high-pitched whining noises or getting really hot will reduce eyestrain. The reduction in system performance from higher refresh rates is truly negligible, as long as your display hardware has VRAM (and the Blue & White has 16 MB on the default display card).

Why Does The Display Cable Length Change Screen Resolution?

I have a Power Mac running two 23" Samsung Displays using 6' cables. This has worked fine for 3 years. Recentily I tried to use 15' cables, but it changes the resolution of the displays. The resolutions are not even the same.
Any ideas on this? The 1st image shows the screen resolutions with the shorter cables. The 2nd image shows the resolutions with the longer cables.

Do not use the menuBar item for debugging. It shows only "greatest hits". The full range you can select from will be shown in:
System Preferences > Displays
The DVI connector on the computer outputs a "regular" VGA signal in the blade at the end and the four pins around it, plus H-Sync (which is in the top row of the grid next to them). Its "adapter" just swaps the signals around.
The Mini DisplayPort adapter asserts a signal to the Mini DisplayPort which requests VGA-compatibility mode, and the interface produces an approximation of VGA.

Screen resolution problem - HP computer and LED Cinema Display

I just purchased an HP Envy Phoenix H9-1330 with Windows 8, and I connected it to my 27" Mac LED Cinema Display, but the resolution is horrible. The highest option in the screen resolution menu is 1280 x 720, and I'm getting the error message "Your resolution is lower than 1024 x 768. Some items might not fit and apps might not open". How do I fix this? What kind of issue is this (Windows 8? Graphics card? HP can't support my monitor? etc...)?
I just bought another brand new computer, but not an HP, with Windows 8 and I have no problems with the resolution - it looks absolutely beautiful. I want to use my monitor with my HP desktop though.

Still haven't figured it out....
BUT I did notice that, on the back of the computer, there are 2 additional DVI connections that are covered with a black cover and screwed in (and they say 'please do not remove'.... I'm asuming it's because they aren't connected to anything? Or maybe they aren't connected to the graphics card?). Is it possible that just my DVI connection is wrong, and I'll need to connect to one of these covered-up DVI inputs instead? But why are they covered up? Do I need to take it in so they can be connected to the graphics card?? Help! I don't want to return this computer, but I will have to if I can't get the resolution fixed.

Nvdia geforce display settings not avilabe in screen resolution

I bought a NEW HP 15 r0022tx note book i am having windows 8.1 64 bit operating system
i just installed a nvdia driver. when i open the screen resolution it showed that display is using intel hd integrated graphics.
and i uninstalled the intel hd graphics driver and restarted my pc. but I am not able to see nvdia display graphics option neither in screen resolution settings nor in nvdia control panel.
Please help me(reply me) fast....

Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue with your HP 15-r022tx Notebook and issues with the graphics card. I would do a system restore.
Once that has completed I would just go to the Device manager right click on the drivers for the graphics card and update the driver.

How can I make my flash Webpage displayed same size on any screen resolution of my computer? Whether it is 1024 X 768 or 1280 X 960 screen resolution, the size of Webpage (Flash Webpage) should always be same so that user don't need to use horizantal scroll bar to view all the content.
And secondly, how can I scroll my webpage vertical on moving with my mouse like in the following link: The below link also shows that it's webpage size is always same on any screen resolution.

How can I determine the number and resolution of the current displays/screens?

I am developing a vision application that will require a specific window size, thus the application must run with the screen resolution at predified levels. It is also possible that the application will run on a system with multiple monitors, so I need to be able to determine the number of monitors, and the resolution of each.

I am running a vi on the PXI . But when i try to open the remote panel it gets shifted on different screens
with different screen resolution. I have tried to set the windows run time position using the vi properies

I just picked up my new 15 inch Retina Macbook Pro with 750m and I changed the screen resolution to the second option,the one with the bigger text but i am noticing that when i close a window, a white horizontal line comes up around where the window was. Is this a screen problem or software related problems? Thank you.

I agree with Mende1. It sounds like it might be ghosting.

Messed up color display and resolution because of mini-DVI to video adapter

Once I connected the mini-DVI to video adapter to the tv and got weird colors on my screen for a while but then it worked out, then after a while I disconnected the cable and turned my computer off. After that, everytime I turned my macbook on, the color is fine for two seconds and then it turns into a weird offset color, really bright colors, kinda sketchy and just a few colors, and a weird resolution and display obviously, but then I just connect my Mini-DVI to video adapter and disconnect it again (quickly) and the color returns to normal. How can I make the normal colors stay and not have to connect the mini-DVI to video adapater everytime I want to see the normal color display and resolution??

Open the Universal Access pane of System Preferences, click on Seeing, turn off the White on Black, VoiceOver, and Zoom options, and drag the Contrast slider all the way to the left. If the issue persists, create a new folder on the desktop, drag half of the items from the Library/Preferences/ folder of the item in the Finder's sidebar with the house icon into it, and narrow down the files until you've isolated the one responsible.
