Display settings switch upon screensaver launch

Hi,
I've been having some issues with my display settings changing every time my screensaver launches. Without fail, my color settings are switching from LCD to sRGB profile everytime my system comes out of screensaver.
My system is as follows:
ibook g4 14", panther 3.9, and standard os x screensaver
Why is this? Anyone got any ideas how to fix?
Thanks,
Dave Grant

im having trouble connecting my macbookpro to the tv. im using a mini display port to hdmi adapter, when i switch tv/video to hdmi on the tv nothing pops up, and i dont have the arrangement tap on the display settings, please help!

I've found that the order of operations, so-to-speak, can be important when hooking up mini display port to HDMI.  I have the most success with the following operations in this order:
    1)  Plug HDMI cable into mini displayport adapter (the cable should not be plugged into either the TV or the computer at this point)
    2)  Plug the mini displayport end of your new super-cable to the computer.
    3)  Plug the HDMI end into your TV.
    4)  Switch inputs on your TV to the proper input.
    5)  If still nothing on the TV, try a different HDMI port on your TV.
    Hopefully this helps!  Good luck.

  • Mac mini stuck on wrong display settings

My setup is a Mac mini plugged via HDMI into a 32" 720p TV. In display settings, I accidentally selected a resolution lower than 720p, and my TV says 'format not supported.' Normally, I thought the computer would revert back to the original settings unless you press enter. This did not occur. When I plug into a 1080p TV, all is well and the Mac automatically switches resolutions to match the TV. But when I plug back into the 720p, it reverts back to the low resolution, which the tv does not support. Upon startup, the apple appears, but the screen goes blank before reaching the sign-in screen.

Mac mini HDMI is not supported by Philips hdtv.
It may also not be supported by other brands.
I am selling my Philips hdtv because of this.
You can use display port to vga output , but then there is no sound.
The Mac mini worked fine on 3 different Samsungs I tried it on.
I have read there is a workaround for the Philips issue, but my advice would be switch to Samsung.

  • 2560 x 1600 is gone from my display settings (2nd monitor)

I've been running my 15" retina macbook pro for more than a year now with 27" DELL monitor and it has alway been using 2560x1600 resolution display.
In the past year i've had no issues with mirroring my screen to big screen TV using Apple TV, however today something weird happened.
As usual i mirrored my screen using Apple TV to watch some videos and i had to change some of the display settings to get the best view on my TV.
Afterwards i switched off the mirroring feature and now my 2nd monitor (DELL 27") is displaying 1920x1080 only. I looked at all my options on my display settings (using ATL+click ) and 2560x1600 is gone missing from the list. Im frustrated and couldn't find an answer to this problem, please advice.
    Couple things i tried;
    - restart & shutdown
    - reset NVRAM & PRAM settings
    - changed mini display cable with another
    - reset monitor settings
    Weird find:
I tried to mirrored  my macbook pro to apple TV again to see the display settings. Guess what, the option for 2560x1600 is now back on the list and working (visually) just fine. as soon as i turned off the airplay display my 2nd monitor turns back to 1920x1080.
Note: the display on my retina macbook pro is working just fine, no problem at all. this is only showing on my 27" DELL U2713HM.

Hello! Just want to ask about mirroring: when you MIRROR the Retina MBP 15" to your Dell Monitor (2560x1600) : do both the MBP and Dell Monitor look sharp and crisp?
    I'm asking because I'm also considering a monitor that's at 2560x1600.
    Thanks so much!

  • Fn F7 defaults from Presentation on Projector and Notebook back to My Normal Display Settings

I am using my T61 to project slides in class. When I connect it to the data projector, turn on the data projector, and use Fn F7 to switch from My Normal Display Settings to Presentation on Projector and Notebook, the signal does not get through to the projector. When I check Fn F7 again, I see that the scheme is back to My Normal Display Settings. What am I doing wrong?
    David

Yes, I experienced the same problem. In my case it was caused by the VGA cable. After replacing the installed cable with a high-quality cable, the projector display was stable.
Interestingly, my old HP notebook worked fine with the projector and the installed cable. The problem occurred only with my new T61. Maybe the electrical characteristics are slightly different, or a specific signal which was not used by the old VGA interface was degraded. I use a cable with pin 9 connected. I have not tested a cable without pin 9.
    Hope this helps, Carsten.

  • VmWare Display settings for guest OS Win7 Pro and others not saving

Mid-2014 MBP 15" with Retina, Intel iris Pro, 16GB, 512SSD.  Running vmWare 7.1.2 on Yosemite 10.1.2:
    - Win7 Pro VM setup with 8GB, 2 'cores', 128GB SSD.
    - the Display settings for the Win7 Pro guest won't persist when switching to and from Mac desktop
    - Doesn't matter if Full Screen or in Window, it defaults to 1140 x 900 or something like that, and will not keep settings made after Full Screen is selected
    - Having done some research before coming here: I have uninstalled and re-installed vmTools. I have tried it with 'Use Full Retina Display' setting in vmWare guest settings, doesn't make a difference other than the default size is either the maximum Retina resolution for the Win7 Pro desktop or the 1440x900 default when the 'Use Retina..' setting is set.
    - Apparently this is an Apple bug with Retina MBP and not vmWare, according to vmWare.  ;}
    Thought, suggestions, other?
    Thanks folks!
    -=-Dennis

Now having worked with VMware support.  Here's the fix for anyone experiencing this problem on a rMBP with Fusion 7.x and running Win7Pro or others as guests, that are not retaining the display settings when either rebooting the guest, pausing the guest or switching between the Mac desktop and the GuestOS desktop.
    1. Find a file named WMwareResolutionSet it can be located under ProgramFiles or ProgramFile(x86)-->VMware-->VMware Tools-->
    2. Move, do not copy, this file out of this directory, onto your Desktop
    3. Restart the Guest
    4. Whatever resolution settings you have set, should now be retained
This assumes you have already UN-checked 'Use Full Resolution..' Retina display checkbox in VMware Settings-->Display.

  • What display settings do i need to change to use hdmi cable with macbook pro

what display settings do i need to change to what tv and display my macbook pro with hdmi cable connected to computer.

Well, if it's 1080p TV, then go into System Preferences > Displays.
Sometimes you have to click on detect displays & a PreferencePane should appear on each display device for you to change the resolution.
Also decide if you want it mirrored, or extended. And also move the display to the correct position for extended so you are moving the mouse in the direction of the 2nd display being the TV.
Option + F1 = Brings Display preferences up immediately.
Command + F1 or F2 = from memory that's the shortcut to switch back & forth between mirroring & extended.

  • My screen display settings don't work right

My screen display settings don't work. When i try to set to not sleep it still sleeps. When i set to sleep and show pictures it works for a few mins then sleeps and won't scroll my pics at all just a black screen. Why? Does anyone else have this problem?

Screensaver (e.g., showing pictures instead of the desktop) and Display Sleep and Computer Sleep are all set independently. You need to be sure that you have set each and every one of these correctly or you will get unexpected results.
There is also the ability to require a password after an interval, and that is also independent of all the others, and is in
    system preferences > security.

  • G5 Freezes, display settings and videocard : A clue ?

    Hello,
Before you begin to read this ( rather ) long post (sorry for that), i will summarize the final question :
Can there be a relationship between freezes and monitor settings in system preferences ? Are there solutions to improve these settings ? what can be done ?
    *My experience* :
After last Tiger updates (9 and 10), my Finder (?) froze very often.
In April, for this reason, I made a Tiger "archive and install" installation.
    Nothing really improved.
In July, after multiple freezes I uninstalled :
    -ATI monitor utility,
-Optical Logitech mouse *LCC driver* (and come back to the cord original Apple mouse), and the
-APE folder "*Application Enhancer*" installed in System files, which I could not imagine to be there, since I had uninstalled "APE" from preference panes under Panther and +never reinstalled it+ after that. But EasyFind showed it to me and Pacifist indicated me that in the LCC driver package there was a "call" to APE installation (and in the last ATI monitor crash report I had seen this ape mentioned).
-dsl modem wifi card and come back to an ethernet connexion, and also
-reinstalled a *mac OS X 10.4.10 combo* update,
in spite of all these un-/installations, freezes were going on with a peak at 10 one day, leaving me convinced that something important in the G5 was totally dead.
One morning, on start, the screen was totally black and the monitor power green led was even off. (I checked warranty for the monitor : 3 years on site until ... November 2007, at least that could be saved.)
Before calling the shop where I had bought this *SyncMaster 213T* display, I wanted to be sure that nothing else was wrong. So, I did some test indicated on the Samsung paper manual (fortunately, there are still some...) i.e. : unplug the monitor from the computer and test it by itself ... I could see exactly the boxes that were indicated as "normal". So the monitor seemed to be "clean".
After I had uninstalled all other devices such as : USB 2 hub, Sony active speakers, and, on a friend's (knowing much more things than me on Macs) advice, made ( done ? sorry ! ) some vigourous PRAM reset I could restart with a "normal" screen.
The first thing I did, then, was to open the virtual monitor manual, in the trouble shooting session. Namely concerning compatibility between video cards and this monitor. There was something about frequencies unsupported by certain cards. I understood that the higher, the better. But to get the higher, I had to choose a lower Display resolution. In its native resolution (1600 x 1200), the Monitor pref pane proposed only 60 Hz; to get 75 Hz (the maximum frequency indicated in the pref pane) I had to downgrade the resolution from 1600 x 1200 to 1280 x 1024. So did I. After a last freeze, I restarted with PRAM reset. The screen was ok.
And several weeks after, in August, I realized that, since that time, I had encountered NO freeze at all. At that time, I was sure that the "vigorous" PRAM reset had made the wonder.
One day of August, I wanted to change my desktop image with a photo I had just taken. The photo size was wider than the display resolution and I could not see it entirely on the screen. So to get a total view of it, I changed the resolution size to the initial one (1600 x 1200 - freq. 60 Hz). And my photo was entire. Then, I wanted to read something in my newsreader ( Thoth , which I daily use). As a post window was too small to see the entire post and wishing to avoid scrolling, I dragged, as usual, the left lower side to resize this window and I saw the black border line figuring the new window ... but nothing else happened. The window did not resize and suddenly I realized that I was again in a freeze story. :-/
The Apple mouse cursor was moving freely but nothing else happened. And no click was efficient in the display view (but I could hear - as before - its reactive noise inside the G5).
I decided to wait a bit and dit it for about 20 minutes. Nothing went better and I had to shutdown and restart again, tried a "*fsck -s*" but there also, after a beginning of the process, monitor froze. Then, I decided to restart (with alt ) on a "safe" 2nd internal boot disk with a "clean installed" Tiger, which I keep for this kind of problems and from there repaired authorizations and checked the other disk (which appeared to be ok).
Then I restarted normally on my "working" session. Opened iTunes, but as soon as I wanted to click on Mail in the dock : re-freeze.
This time, when I restarted after shutdown (since the "force to quit" was unavailable), the first thing I did was to re-change the Monitor resolution and frequency (to 1280 x 1024 and 75 Hz). And from this time, mid-august, I had only one freeze, which occurred when I wanted to look at a genuine Apple screensaver (but for this, there are about two years that I had to abandon to look at them or at iTunes animations, that I miss ... snif) I just wanted to check if- now -with this display settings change, things were better, but no.
My display is a digital Samsung SyncMaster 213T (21") plugged on the DVI ATI card port.
Many thanks to those who have had the patience to read this and my apologize to those who have the feeling they have lost their time (and also for my approximative English).
    *Thank you !*
PS : Since yesterday my SuperDrive, a Pioneer 106 D, (replaced one year ago by Applecare), seems to be definitely dead : a DVD appears like a text generic document in DiskUtility and does even not appear on the desktop although the DVD player opens, but on a "visualisation" window only (the name of the DVD, a video commercial one, which I could look at last week, did not appear in the window header but did in DiskUtility). And just before, another DVD made an horrible noise in the superdrive but nothing mounts on the desk, DVD player opened but I quickly removed the DVD because of the persistent noise (so I didn't open DiscUtility to see what happened). (Problems with this superdrive date from long).
Can there be a link between this last problem and others above ?

Hello! There are a couple of things you can do. One would be to run the Apple Hardware test to see if it comes back with anything. It's probably on one of the install discs if it's not on a separate disk. Second you can open the console (apps>utilities>console) and see if it's throwing a crash log that might help. The monitor and video card resolution could very well be causing the problem which would seem to indicate since a PRAM reset would clear the resolution settings. I think you'll have to find the resolution that works and stick with it. Tom
    Hello!
For the AHT unfortunately impossible now with a dead Superdrive ... I had done it quite recently (one month) and all appeared to be ok. I'm thinking of buying an external one but don't know if it could help for this i.e: if an install DVD will run on an external drive.
for the console: I don't well understand your "throwing" a crash log ... Is it "deleting" that you mean? Then which one?
Just after writing this post, I read an interesting article by a developer about Tiger and resolution (an hidden feature) which I thought could be in relationship with my problem (I'm not a developer myself but to help localizing somme apps I had to install the DTools). Also saw in a forum a similar problem concerning a "younger" type of G5 monoproc 1.8, and an ATI RADEON card (younger too) and this resolution 1600 x 1200. It seems that several people (all gamers) with this configuration was meeting the same trouble. Sky punishment ??
Well I think I will stick to pram reset then.
Thank you very much for you answer (and your patience !)

  • Why in Displays does it not show my resolution options in Display Settings

I have a Panasonic 42" Viera flatscreen. I usually hook up my Mac Pro to it, the screen changes a bit and resizes things in weird ways, and sometimes my background switches to a new background for whatever reason.... Now, I appear to be stuck like this, I can't even change the resolution of my display anymore... there's just NO option to do so in Display Settings... at all. I'm not sure why, I created a new account, but it's frozen like that on the new account too, I can't switch back, and now when I re-plug my HDMI cord into the computer, it just registers absolutely nothing at all... and it doesn't connect to the TV.
What the **** is wrong with my BRAND NEW, came in the mail a week ago MacBook Pro? lol.
    Thank you.

  • AppleScript to toggle display settings?

I often use Leopard's Screen Sharing capabilities via my Macbook Pro laptop to control my Mac Pro desktop computer. The problem is that my desktop computer is running a dual-monitor configuration, with a 1920x1200 primary screen, and a 2560x1600 30" Cinema Display as my secondary screen, which as you can imagine is pretty difficult to manage from the measly 1440x900 resolution of my laptop.
I was hoping that someone might be able to help me create an applescript (that can be launched with a single click from either the Dock or a Finder Window Toolbar), which I could use to enable the Display Panel option to "Mirror Displays", and then to change the resolution of my Mac Pro's screen to 1600x1000 for reasonable viewing on my Macbook Pro.
If two scripts need to be created for this to work (one to toggle display settings for remote viewing, and another to toggle them back to normal), then that would be fine, but if it's not any more or less difficult to have a single script handle both directions of the toggle, then that would of course be best...
Any help that anyone can offer here would be sincerely appreciated! Thanks so much for your time!

I haven't tested this as I don't have access to a monitor at the moment, but I found this on insanely mac via a google search.
    <pre>tell application "System Preferences"
    activate
reveal anchor "displaysArrangementTab" of pane id "com.apple.preference.displays"
    tell application "System Events"
    tell application process "System Preferences"
    tell window 1
tell group 1 of tab group 1
    click checkbox "Mirror Displays"
    end tell
    end tell
    end tell
    end tell
    end tell</pre>
Been a few days with no replies so I thought that might work or at least be a nudge in the right direction. Cheers, Joel

Yeah, I'm having the same exact problem - It seems that the thunderbolt minidisplay port is only able to output the analog VGA signal, not the digital signal to support DVI and HDMI. This is a bug that came up after installing 10.7.1. I bought my macbook air with 10.7 on it, upgraded it to 10.7.1 as soon as I got it, so I have never been able to use hdmi or dvi with my macbook air. This is an extremely frustrating problem for me, I used HDMI on a daily basis with my PC. I have spent many hours at the genius bar running diagnostic tests so Apple can get as much information as possible to create a fix for this problem. I have been emailing tech support for 3 or so weeks now, they keep saying that they are working on a fix and it should be out soon, but 10.7.2 has come and gone and I still have no HDMI functionality with my MacBook Air!

  • Display settings in System Preferences acting up

I'm having trouble with my Display settings under System Preferences. I am not using an external monitor. My display seems to be working fine, but when I open Display settings to change resolution and colour, weird stuff happens. Basically, I cannot use this preference pane at all.
My display is 1920x1200, but when I open the Display settings, I get two windows, one telling me that "I am about to change [something something], some applications cannot display information correctly if the screen has less than 800x600 pixels", and the other one, the usual main window, telling me that my resolution is now 640x480 (it isn't).
If I hit OK in the extra window that pops up, my resolution changes to 640x480 or something similar, and I am unable to change back unless I reboot. Also, in the main Display settings window, it says <<< DO NOT LOCALIZE >>> under the list of available resolutions, as well as << do not localize >> in the box where I can change refresh rate. None of the buttons seem to be working.
Does anyone have any idea what is going on here? This was working just fine when I received my new MacBook Pro a few days ago, but now it's not. I've been repairing disk permissions and rebooting, etc.
I have been installing the trial version of Adobe CS5, but had massive problems with this installation (as a lot of people are reporting with CS5 and Snow Leopard...) and uninstalled them again, cleaning out Adobe preference files. Could I have deleted some other important files by accident in this process?

Quit System Preferences, then delete these files or folders.
    Users/yourname/Library/Preferences /com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    Users/yourname/Library/Preferences/By Host/com.apple.systempreferences.xxxxx.plist and com.apple.PrefPane.Network.xxxxx.plist (the X's will be numbers)
    Also, Users/Home/Library/Caches
Now relaunch System Preferences. Let us know.

  • VGA CRT will not "wake up".. help please. Reset display settings shortcut?

    Hello everybody,
I have a mirror drive doors G4 Tower, Dual 1.25 GHz.
I have an ADC and a DVI out from the computer. Just had damage to my old studio display so I am attempting to use just one CRT running from the DVI... w/ a DVI to VGA adapter.
The first time I tried this w/ a CRT it worked fine... I played around w/ monitor settings... still worked fine. Shut down... unhooked CRT and moved that CRT away.
Tried using it with another CRT and the new CRT never started up... remained on stand-by/sleep.
I tried with another moniter... this time a LCD/Flatscreen... again VGA and it did the same thing, EXCEPT... this time when I connected the LCD to the adapter and then plugged the adapter into the DVI on my tower the LCD screen would turn on for about 1 second and display my login page. The picture was not perfect though... it was distorted someway.
Went back to the first CRT... now this one didn't work.
I think that maybe I have to reset my display settings with some sort of shortcut or something... maybe it's on the wrong frequency?
I don't know... any help much appreciated. I hate having to use this PC.
    Thanks,

Turned out to be a faulty DVI to VGA adapter.
