Display Shake-up
I just recently purchased an Apple DVI to component/s-video adapter for my macbook. When I plugged it into the DVI port on the macbook, It changed the display to make everything bigger. When windowa opened they took up way more then the entire screen, the dock was bigger, icons, toolbar, everything. When I would uplug it the screen would go blue and then go back. I was recently using the macbok with the adapter and when I slept my computer before I unplugged the cable. Now when I go back to using the computer everything is still huge. I tried plugging in an unplugging the cable again to no avail. when the screen turns blue it just stays big when it comes back up. Help me get my display back to normal default settings please!!!
never mind, the problem has been resolved.

24" LED display shakes, flickers on/off w/ 13" Air; works fine w/ 11" Air
I have a 2010 24" LED Cinema Display. When I connect my 2010 13" MacBook Air (running 10.9.4), the display shakes like crazy and also flickers on and off. This just started yesterday. It had worked fine w/ that MacBook for a long time.
And when I plug in a different Macbook Air (newer 11"), the display works fine. So, did something all of the sudden happen to my older 13"?
Seems like the problem is with the Mac -- not the display, as the display works with the 11"
Any thoughts welcome!
Thank you,

I just downloaded and installed version 3.6.18. The web pages that are displayed shake (or bounce) up and down. Oddly enough, when I open your "Ask a Question" feature in another tab, the problem stops. But only as long as I keep that particular tab open.
I am running an eMachine T2245 with Windows XP using SP2. I have numerous add-ons, including Flashblock, 1.5.14.2, KeyScrambler 2.8.0.1, MultiRow Bookmarks Toolbar 5.0.1, NoScript 2.1.2rc4, and Tab Mix Plus 0.3.8.6.I found a "work around". I installed Incredible Bookmarks 0.7.3. That allows me to add an additional Bookmarks Toolbar without causing the bouncing problem.
Putting bookmarks in the IB bar was a little tricky. It allows customization, but only to the extent of choosing bookmarks by topic or by a subdirectory of the Bookmarks Menu. What I actually put on the toolbar are such subdirectories (or folders), so I normally could only put one at a time. (This problem doesn't exist with the Firefox Bookmarks Toolbar, which allows you to copy subfolders, not just individual bookmarks).
I solved the problem by moving the additional folders I wanted to put in the IB Toolbar into a folder I (cleverly) called "IB Toolbar", then selected that for the actual Toolbar. The result: a row of folders, exactly what I wanted. (Actually, it's a second row of folders, since I still have the original Firefox Bookmarks Toolbar.)
I'd still prefer MultiRow, but that doesn't appear to be working with Firefox 3.6.18 and higher, so until I upgrade to Firefox 5 (and see if the Plus version will work) this will have to do. -
Mac Pro - Windows 7 - Apple Cinema Display
Hi -- after years of not installing Windows on a separate drive, I finally did it. The install went failrly well, wireless devices work in Windows 7. My remaining issue is that Windows 7 doesn't seem to recognize the Apple Cinema Display (ACD) with the Mini Display Port. If I switch to a different DVI monitor, the display seems fine. However, if I go back to the ACD, the display shakes upon boot up, and the resolution, screen size in off and a generic display is seen in the Control Panel. Sometimes, it does recognize the ACD, which is weird, but never on boot up.
Is the only solution running a DVI adaptor and not using the ACD with the Mini Display Port? When I first installed the BootCamp drivers, it seemed to work, but there were a few updates afterwards, and it seems that I lost whatever had stabilized the issue.
Thanks! There was someone complaining about using two VGA monitors on 2010 w/ ATI 5770.
There is an improved dual display support now in Windows 8. Windows 7 was always "where is my screen" on startup. The video port close to the motherboard seems to be A or primary that it looks for on startup.
I have 23" ACD (2006 unit) Mac Pro but always used GTX, no ATI card (well recently I was using Windows only and an ATI 6790 or something).
And of course you must have installed ATI (Windows own drivers are iffy or "okay" but not the best.
Apple drivers for Windows (aka "Boot Camp" 3.x or Lion's 4.01) include driver support for the ACD.
You say MDP and 4870 in profile, but I didn't think Apple's 4870 had one, and flashed PC cards always have trouble (unflashed 4870 would of course work as normal as can under Windows).
Rollback update of driver is one step. Run Driver Sweeper 3.2 and CCleaner (and clean the registry) to get the graphic driver installed and 'clean.'
Patch Tuesday can always affect a few systems and a problem but more likely a conflict with something else.
One at a time see if you can get new graphic driver to help.
Wtih the 5770 Apple tech note does mention not using adapters.
And don't allow Windows to provide gpu driver if it asks -
Can't use guest account in safe mode
i have a late 2008 unibody macbook 2.4.
my wife has a late 2007 imac.
when i apply update i boot into safe mode and update from there.
on my wife's computer i can select the guest account and update from there.
on my macbook however, when i try to enter the guest account the display 'shakes and quakes' and doesn't allow me to use the guest accounts.
we are currently 'up-to-date' with updates (10.5.7 etc).
we have zero problems in general.
the settings appear to be the same on both computers (as regards accounts).
anyone have a clue, why i can use guest on the imac, but not on the macbook.
thanks a bunch.excellent points greg, but not applicable here.
there are 3 accounts guest, me, admin.
the guest is 'factory stock', the admin is 'factory stock' w/pass, and mine is mine.
as i stated i can use guest in safe mode on my wife's imac, which is configured identically.
there are zero passwords on our guest accounts.
additonally, all permissions on both computers 'check-out' ok per disk utility.
ps....i update only in safe mode so that nothing will interfer/hinder a proper update. we always download and install directly rather than using the 'automatic' update via software update. -
Customized guest account migration
Yesterday I received my new Mac. I had three users on my old Mac: admin, standard and guest. I had guest user customized with Mac OS X Server Admin Tools, and the other two accounts just created through OS GNU.
I wanted to migrate the standard user only, so I left the admin user on the new Mac as it came out of the box and used Migration Assistant to copy over standard user. I selected the standard user only, unticking admin and guest.
However, in my login screen now my customized guest account appears as well, but I can't log in as every time I click on it, the display shakes just as I was inputting an incorrect password (and of course guest account can't have any pw).
Any idea how can I access again my guest account or how can I delete it and create a new one?dscl . read /users/Guest

T400 shake display when plug power supply s.o winxp
Hello everybody
Days ago I installed windows XP prof to thinkpad T400 , I used driver Intel Display Driver for Windows XP and ATI Display Driver for Windows XP but sometimes when plug power supply suddenly display start shake. please help me about of this
thanks a lotOk, as an electrical engineer...I have to step in here! LOL
First, these amp rating are for 2 +12 rails. That is why you see a protection of around 15-18A on the +12 rail. That means each Rail is allowed up to 18A lets say for the new Enermax 1.2 version like the one I have.
Now, Lets say 18A for 12V....well as you know the Abit NF7-S uses the 12V for powering the CPU.
Lets say you have a Barton like me and you want it stable at around 2.4-2.5Ghz. You will have to put lets say around 2V to the cpu to get it stable at that kinda speed, specially if you have high FSB like I do. So 12V * 18Amps = 216W ....well the converter on the NFS-7 is really bad, its loss on the step down convertion is probably around 25% along with the PSU lost cuz its not running at 25oC (another 15%)....you will actually only get around 100-120W for the CPU.
Now, if you go into Sandra and see how much a Barton eats up at 2.4Ghz you will see its around 110Watts.
So, if you wanna push more, dont even think about it! Prime Power test fails and your +12 rail will drop as low as 11.60 Volts.
Now, lets say you got yourself a AMD 64 bit chip and you wanna overclock it....I bet it will need more than 110Watts.
So, what im saying is, dont buy nothing less than a 500 Watt PSU!
You really need around 20-22 A on the main +12 along with really really good cooling on the case and PSU so it is running at a 100%.
http://forums.amdmb.com/showindex.php?s=&threadid=287828
i found this quite interesting especially the bit re the power loss turning the 12v into 1.6v or what ever cpu needs -
Display jitters, shakes, dances every other startup
When I start up, you can see all the usual startup images, except they are all jittering in a staticky way. Even on a solid gray screen, I see the jittering around the edges.
Most of the time, it gets through and I can select "Restart" from the dropdown menu. But sometimes it doesn't, and gets stuck on a gray screen and makes the loud whirring sound - so I have to hold down the power button.
Upon restarting, it's usually just fine. But I can be sure the jittering will be back on the next startup or the next wake up from Sleep. It seems like interference, but then why does it work every other startup?this means that your dimm0 slot (which is actually your slot number 1) is detecting an error. hopefully it is just the ram module itself. try removing the ram from the dimm0 slot to see if the machine returns to normal. your user guide might explain how to install and remove ram. if not, post back with more details concerning your computer. you can find info by going to the system profiler (about this mac) and then going to "more info" and then looking at the hardware overview. it will tell you the processor speed, amount of memory, etc. [ 8 ) ]

Photoshop CC 14.2.1 and NVidia GTX 660 Display Problems
I'm having exactly this problem:
http://forums.adobe.com/message/6264980
The fix documented at the end of that thread works but the penalty is a loss of performance. In an attempt to fix it, I updated to the latest drivers from NVidia for the GTX 660 and as a result, further problems occur:
This sometimes happens when using the crop and straighten tool at 100%.
More often though, irrespective of zoom settings I get:
This happens quite frequently with the dust and scratches/surface blur tools too. Or even on occasion when duplicating a layer or merging layers.
The following gets written out to the event log:
Faulting application name: Photoshop.exe, version: 14.2.1.570, time stamp: 0x52f4a9f2
Faulting module name: Photoshop.exe, version: 14.2.1.570, time stamp: 0x52f4a9f2

Faulting package-relative application ID:
For now I'm using the following work around but with some performance penalty:
Drawing mode: Basic (resolves the issue with mask overlay being patchy and rendering slowly at 100% zoom)
OpenCL: Disabled (resolves Photoshop crashing with crop/straighten and other tools as described above)
This needs to be fixed! The reduced performance increases the time I spend editing, particularly a large product shoot undertaken recently for a client.

Installed TWAIN devices: NONEMy advice: Rather that wait hopefully, try some alternate configuration settings.
Specifically, go into your Preferences - Performance - Advanced Settings panel, and try the different options there, making sure to close Photoshop and restart it after each change, then test.
It's possible Photoshop asked the nVidia display driver what it can do, and it said it could do something very advanced, but in the driver implementation some part of that advanced operation is run in the CPU, not the GPU. NVidia has been known to do this!
Thus it may be that if you choose a lesser drawing mode or change something (e.g., 30 bit display) you might find that particular combination of settings makes things run faster.

Yoga 3 pro cant stream video on external display or laptop
Saw a previous post on this, didnt seem like it was fixed. Having real issues with hooking up to an external display, when the web browser (chrome) is extended to the external display, my internet lags hard...i cant even stream a vid on youtube.
I've disabled realtek (fixed cracking speakers) tried a completely new cord set up from micro hdmi to dvi...nothing works. When i drag the browser window back to the laptop screen, it works fine.
Ok, 5 min follow up: it seems im now having the similar issue with streaming video on my laptop screen....sound streams fine, the video seems to shake back and forth very quickly, runs, then shakes again...seems to only happen intermittenltly on the laptop...but display shows real lag and shake.
Solved!
Go to Solution.Have you tried changing the screen resolution on the Yoga to something lower than what it is set on? A 1080i screen has a resolution of 1,920 × 1,080, my Yoga 3 Pro has a default resolution of 3200 x 1800. I have not tried connecting my Y3P to the TV yet, but the conversion could be causing an issue.

ATI X1900 exhibits random display glitches on a Mac Pro
My ATI card has been displaying bizarre and random glitches on my Mac Pro. I am running a dual screen setup: a brand new Samsung SyncMaster 21" lcd and an ancient 15" Apple Studio Display.
On the Samsung, the most common problem I get is what looks like video jitter (the entire image shakes to the right very quickly at random intervals) every couple of seconds. When the problem gets really bad, I start to notice thin horizontal red lines flickering at random places across the entire screen. Both happen while using the computer and during the boot/reboot process... on the old Apple screen, the problem is less noticeable, usually it's just a very quick flash on the screen that can happen every 15 minutes or so. Sometimes a restart clears up the problem but it doesn't always work. I have also tested my machine with a 17" Formac LCD and it displays the red lines as well.
Unfortunately, there does not seem to be a consistent pattern of why this is happening... sometimes it starts only after several hours of use, other times it will start after waking from sleep. Zapping PRAM and resetting the PMU doesn't seem to have any effect.I have put the stock nVidia card in the machine and all the problems go away. This card was actually replaced by Apple last week and things were fine for a few hours but then the problems returned and has gotten worse since then.
Does this sound like the video card is still defective, or could it possibly be the Mac Pro itself?
Jay
Mac Pro Mac OS X (10.4.8)I would get back into contact with AppleCare and see what they can do. It might well be a driver issue so if you have a drive available, try installing a clean copy of Max OS X onto it, update it to Mac OS X 10.4.8 and see it if makes a difference.

Is there a way to fix ipod touch screen display problem with song list?
I was wondering if anybody has had this problem? I have an ipod touch 64gig 5th gen for probably about 2 years. I hardly use it because I have it as a back up ipod until primary one dies. This is the first time I came across this problem. Upon turning on device, the first artist/song list I choose displays correctly. Once I start choosing any other artist/song list afterwards, the display for the 1st artist/song list re-appears. If the song list is only a single song to 3-4 songs it will display correctly. Any other song list I choose that consist more than 5 songs, the first artist/song list re-appears on screen like the display is messed up.
For example: Upon turning on device, I choose Aaliyah with a list of 9 songs displaying.
Upon trying to select a different artist and song, for example I choose Nachtmar with a list of 20 songs.
The Aaliyah with the list of 9 songs re appears in place of the song list I am attempting to choose. The songs play and it works, but the display is incorrect. Why is it doing this? Does anybody have this problem? I have tried resetting and it has currently been updated. I have came across this problem just very recently a couple of days ago. I have had a couple of hard resets requiring to erase all data in the past and I don't want to go that way again because I have about 3,500 songs. I have never experience this problem before in the past. I just want it to display the current list of songs. It's inconvenient having to type in every song while playing in the car instead of being able to easily pick an individual song.I have this problem too and it drives me crazy. When I view my ipod, I don't want to see a list of the first 8 songs in my ipod library. I just want to see the current song playing. It's like the ipod display goes into some type of "sleep" mode while your music plays, and the display defaults to show the first few songs in your ipod touch library, even though none of those songs are currently being played. I have to take the time to either flip the ipod over a couple of times in order for that list to disappear just to see the current song playing.
This is an example of what I see on my display after the current song begins playing. These are the first songs in my ipod library. To get rid of this view, I have to either shake the ipod or flip it over a couple of times and the current song is now displayed, allowing you to see the current song, also allowing you access to the arrows to either fast forward or playback/reverse. On the display, the songs are in a grid or table format (unable to show that here).

Hi all... My mid 2010 MacBook Pro took a keyboard spill. It still works but the display is very very dark. A faint image can only be seen at an angle in very bright light. I think this model has an LED screen. Can anyone please tell me what the fix for this is? Thank you sooooo much!

Some liquid has just spilled into your Mac. What should you do?
Do
Immediately shut down the computer and unplug the power cord.
Remove the computer's battery (if you can)
Disconnect any peripherals (printers, iPods, scanners, cameras, etc.)
Lay the computer upside down on paper towels to get as much liquid as possible to drip out.
Note what was spilled on your Mac.
Bring the computer into an Apple store or AASP as soon as possible.
Don't
Don't try to turn it back on. Liquids can help electrical current move about the components of your Mac in destructive ways.
Don't shake the computer (this will only spread the liquid around).
Don't use a hair dryer on it (even at a low setting a hair dryer will damage sensitive components). -
Hello,

/* BeginOAWidget_Instance_2141544: #MenuBar */
/* Settable values for skinning a Basic menu via presets. If presets are not sufficient, most skinning should be done in
these rules, with the exception of the images used for down or right pointing arrows, which are in the file SpryMenuBasic.css
These assume the following widget classes for menu layout (set in a preset)
.MenuBar - Applies to all menubars - default is horizontal bar, all submenus are vertical - 2nd level subs and beyond are pull-right.
.MenuBarVertical - vertical main bar; all submenus are pull-right.
You can also pass in extra classnames to set your desired top level menu bar layout. Normally, these are set by using a preset.
They only apply to horizontal menu bars:
MenuBarLeftShrink - The menu bar will be horizontally 'shrinkwrapped' to be just large enough to hold its items, and left aligned
MenuBarRightShrink - Just like MenuBarLeftShrink, but right aligned
MenuBarFixedLeft - Fixed at a specified width set in the rule '.MenuBarFixedLeft', and left aligned.
MenuBarFixedCentered - - Fixed at a specified width set in the rule '.MenuBarFixedCentered',
and centered in its parent container.
MenuBarFullwidth - Grows to fill its parent container width.
In general, all rules specified in this file are prefixed by #MenuBar so they only apply to instances of the widget inserted along
with the rules. This permits use of multiple MenuBarBasic widgets on the same page with different layouts. Because of IE6 limitations,
there are a few rules where this was not possible. Those rules are so noted in comments.

/* IE6 rules - you can delete these if you do not want to support IE6 */
/* A note about multiple classes in IE6.
* Some of the rules above use multiple class names on an element for selection, such as "hover" (MenuItemHover) and "has a subMenu" (MenuItemWithSubMenu),
* giving the selector '.MenuItemWithSubMenu.MenuItemHover'.
* Unfortunately IE6 does not support using mutiple classnames in a selector for an element. For a selector such as '.foo.bar.baz', IE6 ignores
* all but the final classname (here, '.baz'), and sets the specificity accordingly, counting just one of those classs as significant. To get around this
* problem, we use the plugin in SpryMenuBarIEWorkaroundsPlugin.js to generate compound classnames for IE6, such as 'MenuItemWithSubMenuHover'.
* Since there are a lot of these needed, the plugin does not generate the extra classes for modern browsers, and we use the CSS2 style mutltiple class
* syntax for that. Since IE6 both applies rules where
* it should not, and gets the specificity wrong too, we have to order rules carefully, so the rule misapplied in IE6 can be overridden.
* So, we put the multiple class rule first. IE6 will mistakenly apply this rule. We follow this with the single-class rule that it would
* mistakenly override, making sure the misinterpreted IE6 specificity is the same as the single-class selector, so the latter wins.
* We then create a copy of the multiple class rule, adding a '.SpryIsIE6' class as context, and making sure the specificity for
* the selector is high enough to beat the single-class rule in the "both classes match" case. We place the IE6 rule at the end of the
* css style block to make it easy to delete if you want to drop IE6 support.
* If you decide you do not need IE6 support, you can get rid of these, as well as the inclusion of the SpryMenuBarIEWorkaroundsPlugin.js script.
* The 'SpryIsIE6' class is placed on the HTML element by the script in SpryMenuBarIEWorkaroundsPlugin.js if the browser is Internet Explorer 6. This avoids the necessity of IE conditional comments for these rules.
