Display showing grid lines and craziness.

How can I find out what is causing this issue?
From what I've read it could possibly be a failing graphics card, failing LCD, or loose wire.
Here are my specs:
iMac (27-inch, Late 212)
Processor: 3.4 GHZ Intel Core i7
Memory: 32 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 (upgraded myself)
Startup Disk: Macintosh HD
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2048 MB
I'm a photographer and videographer, so I'm sure my graphics card gets quite a workout often. I've also come back to find that my computer has restarted itself, likely due to the issue.

I would make an appointment with a Genuis and show them the screen prints. I had this issue with a Macbook and it was a motherboard issue. That does not mean your issue is the same - but it needs to be checked. Screen prints like yours are so helpful for them to diagnose.

Vertical grid lines and Dates on Graph

When I use date values on the x-axis for a graph, the only vertical grid lines that appear in the graph are at the year boundary. For example, if I was showing data for 3 years, I get 3 vertical grid lines; one at each January.
How can I get vertical grid lines at each month?
It will work if I convert the date to character, but then I lose the ability of Oracle Reports to fill in the tick marks for missing dates (say, if there isn't any data between January and March, the graph will still show a label for February).

Now, the main loop has a wait statement, but the problem remains. I'm using LabView 2009, and I didn't see this behaviour in the previous version, LabView 8.6.
I send you back the uptaded program, and two snapshots as well:
- snapshot 1: just after pressing "Run", "increment" value takes "maximum" value; due to this, there's only one text marker, at "12:00" (there should be one major grid line and one text marker every 10 minutes as "increment" value is set to 600 before entering the while loop);
- snapshot 2: when pannning, "minor increment" takes "maximum" value, and due to this, vertical grid lines don't show any more (there should be one minor grid line every 5 minutes as "minor increment" is set to 300 before entering the while loop).

ISight shows some lines and weird colors in every software and user

Since saturday, the day i got my brand new mac, i've been reading the topics around here. None of them seem to resemble my issue.
On saturday i charged the mac, turned it on and took a picture on Photobooth. Everything was normal until that very same night when i turned it on again and the camera showed some lines and went from normal color to green, then to red. I could see myself but not in proper colors. Got no message of camera in use nor it was undetected.
I let it rest for a while and tested again on Sunday, Monday and today and it's the same thing. It has nothing to do with photobooth effects because 'normal' shows an image with the issue and the lines appear in every effect.
I've already followed all troubleshooting guides and nothing worked (every software and every user has the issue, USB is recognized and SMC restart made no change) I'd love to call the support line but my work schedule keeps me from doing it.
I'd love to show you a picture i took with this issue but i have no idea how to post it around here.
hope i can get some help before giving up and sending it back to the store.

Your new Mac almost certainly has a hardware problem.
Return your new Mac to see if the retailer as soon as possible.
If he cannot immediately correct the problem, he may exchange it.

Showing grid lines as dashed lines

Dear All,
i am using a waveform chart to plot my data .. i want to insert grid inside my chart .
There are 3 different options for inserting grids in d chart .
is dere any way i can change the style of lines of grids ?? i want to see them as dashed lines rather than a continous line ...

the solution to it was a bit complicated .. i had to search for examples to get my data on the wavefrom graph...
thing is like dis. i have to store the data of different channels on different clusters and join the clustes using Build Array ...
Now dat i am able to show the data on graph(atleast) its not showing it continously .. the graph is plotting all d data at the starting point, i.e 0 and not moving forward ..
I am posting the Block Diagram as well as the Output that i am getting ..
Regarding Block Diargram - I am reading a text file containing the waveform data.. it has N number of rows.. each row has 4 columns containing data of 4 different channels .
i read the file "line by line" and store the data in 4 diff arrays(b,c,d,e). then i cluster these 4 arrays separately and build array using dese 4 clusters .. and d output of the array is plotted on the graph den..
Pl. have a look at it and see if dere's any solution to it ..

Display showing black lines

My ipod display is showing black lines. What should i do?

Have you worked through the basic 5 R's of troubleshooting yet? If not that would be a good place to start as they can help rule out a software issue.

Otherwise, if none of those work, we know the issue is hardware related. The LCD is probably damaged and in need or a replacement. You can have your iPod serviced or replaced either by Apple or a third party repair company.

Dropped iPhone 3G shows vertical lines and dark/light stips only--but works.

I just gave my son my old 3G (to use as iTouch basically). He bought a case to protect it and then dropped it (which I had done tons of times without problem). Now the phone only shows vertical lines, darkness, lightness--but it does sync and sounds like it actually opens up when you slide your finger in the usual spot.
Is the phone a gonner or is there hope for a very sad 9 yo boy? thx.

MSI FX5600-VTDR128 shows vertical lines and blinking dots even in BIOS

Just got a MSI FX5600-VTDR128 and tested it with three different mobos. This issue happens in all of them.
The screen shows blinking dots and vertical lines even in bios sceen, and also in Windows XP.
This is a random issue, I mean... it doesn't happen all the time, just once in a while!!
I want to avoid all the RMA pain in the *** as I bought it via Internet, and wonder if there's somthing I can do as flashing bios, testing the card's memory etc... before sending back my card :(
As it's a issue that also happens in bios I'm afraid this is a bad hardware failure and the only thing I can do is to send my card back, am I right?

Well... I managed to change the DVI mode of my LCD screen to normal analog mode and.... BINGO!! no blinking dots and no lines!! :D
I think I'm going to avoid RMA hell at last!. I'll keep analog mode, as far as I know it's way faster than DVI (16ms vs 20ms) and I'm going to avoid a real hell here :D
I passed through a RMA with a DDR400 module and I can say it was a real pain.
I'm into advanced computing (power user 8))since 1994, and I'm really dissapointed about how things are developing. I mean hey! there was absolutely no crap with my 486 DX2, my Pentium 100 & Pentium 120 nor with my AMD K6-III 450Mhz.
Almost no mem/mobo/vga issues or incompabilities...
As technology develops, now with DDR400, lots of crappy hardware, lots of incompabilities, RMAs, strange issues, faulty hardware....
Please note it's just my point of view, but it's a sad reality...
Well I'm becoming a doomsayer and pessimist, and I'm having a happy day since I managed to solve my problem so I'll become perpetually overoptimistic happy
btw I'm from Spain (Europe) and I usually buy from a very big hardware shop because it has very good prices (185€ for my FX5600 card), the downside of this is the shop being 600Km from my city!...

DSLR workflow showing yellow line and being very slow

I am editing DSLR footage in Adobe Premier Pro CS5.5. The sequence has a yellow line and the workflow is very slow. Is there a way to solve the issue?

Help - ipod shows red lines and displays white screen?

This is the 3rd Ipod Touch, 4th Generation, I've had in 2 years. Something has been wrong with each one of them. The one I have now is only 2 months old and unfortunately my Apple Care Warranty has expired, last month. I was not allowed to purchase a new Apple Care warranty for the new Ipod, so basically I am stuck with another "lemon". Here's the problem, this time.
My Ipod shows 2 thin red lines which extend half way across the screen from left to right, upper left corner when holding Ipod vertically. sometimes when turning the Ipod on, the screen is almost all white and I can barely see the time and "slide to unlock". It always happens when I plug into power. Also, the red lines flash bright white at times and then extend across the entire screen. If I take a picture of it, (holding down power and home buttons) it looks normal.
Has anyone else had such a problem? Can anyone suggest a solution? I'd like to take this to Apple and say, "What the heck?" Is it policy to replace a defective product with one that they wouldn't sell in their store but is OK to give as a replacement? I love my Ipod Touch, but this is extemely frustrating!

I have not seen that problem here before. Likely a hardware bproblem but
Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at

- Reset all settings

No. The replacment is a refurbished one that should work like new.

Grid lines and guide lines are too thin and not visible (Retina display)

How do I increase the "thickness" of them? I have no other idea how to make them more visible. They are just not visible enough.
I have tried every color. They are so thin with the settings I'm using for the display (I can't change the settings to smaller resolution)
On the solid color they are ok, but besides that... almost useless (and the grid, and the guides).

I asked about your Photoshop version to make sure it would have Retina display support. I use Windows with a 30inch 1920x1200 main display, but just tried the Photoshop 200% UI feature, and while it made the Photoshop UI nice and chunky, Guides were still just one pixel wide. So AFAICT the only workaround is to change the guide colour.
If it is a big problem, start a thread on Photoshop feedback site, or search the existing threads to see what has already been said about guides.

TB 27" Display - Black Horizonal Lines and Low Brightness (MBAir & MPro)

Example image shows TB display problem with MB Air (Mid-2013, 10.9.2). Same problem can be seen with Mac Pro (New, 10.9.2).
Before I box this thing up and send it back anyone have any tips?

Same problem here with my TB 27" (march 2014), only the horizontal lines on my screen are gray instead of black.
Cross-checked it with 2nd MacBook & 2nd 27" TB.
Thankfully my dealer is willing to swap it for a new one.

Has anyone had a problem with a late 2009 27 inch iMac display showing vertical lines?

Can only display and work the computer in safe mode.
When performing a regular boot, the lines appear at the Apple logo and then the screen goes blank and stays blank.
Problem first started couple of weeks ago with the computer/display freezing with "confetti-like" marks all over the screen when returning from screen saver power save mode.
I'd venture to guess it's a graphics card issue. Any input would be appreciated.

Like you, after some tests/repairs my screen went back to normal, but soon enough it went back to this state. How about you?

Unibody Macbook Pro 17inch Display problems, vertical lines and artifacting

Hey everybody
I bought my 17inch MBP at B&H in June (week before WWDC, D'oh) and it was working fine until I came over to Ireland to work on a editing job for the summer, as soon as I attached it via mini display to a second monitor I started getting artifacts and vertical lines in certain shades and colours on the macbooks display, its gradually gotten worse so much so in fact that it is nearly unusable.
I have seen the thread about the firmware update, but my computer is already up to date with that but it still has this problem, I contacted apple and was told to take it to the apple store and the genius bar in Belfast, as helpful as the rep was he told me it would be two weeks for a repair, by replacing the logic board. Which I just can't do as I've only got three weeks left on the job and need my mac every day. I've searched and it seems no-one is having this problem except me since the firmware update, but clearly my machine still has problems.
Never had a problem with all my previous Mac's but I'm close to tossing this in the bin please help because if I can't get this solved I will have to move to PC and install my copy of AVID on it as this is the only other available computers at this production company.
What to do? Has anyone else had this problem recently? Or know of a fix for it? I've tried everything downloaded the firmware told me its already installed, switched the graphics displays etc etc

Welcome to Apple Discussions!
It sounds like there is a hardware problem of some sort with the graphics chips, and the only real fix is going to be to replace the logic board. So at some point, you will have to send your Mac off for repair.
In the US, you can sometimes arrange to get a loaner. You might ask if this would be possible where you are, since the repair is going to take so long.
Unfortunately, I don't know of anything that would fix your problem other than a repair.

Macbook Pro screen showing green line and blacks out all the time

My macbook pro have been recently showing green horixontal line all over the screen at times , and it goes away after restarting couple of times, after i log in the screen black outs after couple of minutes and sometimes the screen act weird

I would suspect that there is a hardware component failing. I would take it in for diagnosis.
