Display size and formatting

My father, who is completely computer illiterate, managed to change the display on all three of our family accounts on our iMac. Whereas webpages and programs were once crisp and formatted correctly (ie the New York Times online looked like the proper newspaper), everything, from the font on the top bar to the icons at the bottom and fonts on webpages, is now much larger and out of focus. Safari windows are now too large to properly fit on the screen (usually the right side is cut off) and there are fewer tiled images on my background. I have checked everywhere in Preferences and in the online help- does anybody know how to restore the display settings to their defaults?

System Preferences>Displays>Display is where you can change the resolution of your screen.
Also, you can zoom in on webpages & other windows by using your mouse's scroll wheel whilst holding down ctrl key.
Have a look in System Preferences>Universal Access>Seeing & check that Zoom isn't activated (Cmd-Alt-8 is shortcut).

We carry through all the tips postadas in the SDN to solve this problem, however we the same have some different stations with problem.

Thanks for getting back. Hadn't got round to re uploading the amended feed. I just did it now.
The only thing is, Feed Validator doesn't like it because of the picture size, and a couple of other things, it reeds the following:

How do I change the font, font size, and format of a tab label? Can I replace the text label with a gif image?

I didn't say double-click on the tab. I said double-click on the tab selector's text. You need to use the "hand" tool if you have "Lock automatic tool selection" off in your LabVIEW options.

Multiple size and format exports

Is there a way to hit the export button on a selection of images one time and produce multiple sizes and formats of each image? Maybe an automator script.
It would speed things up if you didn't have to go back and choose a different format from the drop down list and start the export over again for each different size that you need.

I was just doing something similar recently, I agree it would be nice to have something easier to do just this...
I think the simplist way would actually be to write an export plugin using the new Export API, it would be truest to what you are probably trying to produce (I was creating a series of different resolutions of the same image for a web page). It would be trickier though.

Image size and format for IMovie

I am trying to make a short stop motion animation in IMovie. I have made my images in Adobe illustrator. I transfer the images into IMovie as JPEGS.the images, which are basically line drawings, look sharp and clean but as soon as you watch them as moving pictures they become broken up.
what am I doing wrong? does this have to do with my image size or format?

iDVD will try to downsize the image to work, but your TV often will overscan with the result being edges clipped off. The amount of clipping can vary, so the "TV Safe" settings will typically be the center 80-90% of the image. So, if you add a border that makes the image 10-15% larger, that should display the whole image. For example, if you had a 150 dpi image that was 640x480, you could put a 10% border on it so the final image was 704x528.

Cross Tab Size and Formatting

Good Day To All,
I have 3 Cross tab that fit perfectly on one page, but when it was created the user used an incorrect field as its columns.
When I change the column field to the correct field the Cross-Tab increases in size shifting the last cross tab to another page.
How can I keep the original size. I've tried To lock position and size but that does not work. I also tried using format painter but that only works on fonts size. I am unable to re-size the cross tab in design mode. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

hi David,
unfortunately there are no properties in a cross-tab to keep it the same overall width if the number of column instances changes. the Size and Position dialogues for Width and Horizontal Position (X) also do not apply to cross-tabs.
the only thing that you can do is to decrease the width of the column cell and if the output no longer fits in the width of the cell then you'll also need to decrease the font size.
there is another workaround by limiting the number of records returned to a group. please see my blog post here in particular the section "Formatting a Cross-tab to Have N Rows & M Columns". this is not an easy task either as the data coming in must be a precise match for the number of rows X the number columns that are required. this is explained further in the blog.

When I put Pages in fullscreen my bar with fonts, size, and format disappears

in old pages, in fullscreen i could scroll my mouse up and i would get the fonts, size, and formant, etc. bar. but now it just disapeares?

Are other apps working fine in full screen? Just Pages?
It is working for me, so perhaps a restart to see if that helps?
But like many, I am sticking with the old Pages for now.

What file size and format show I ask someone to send me a movie in?

A company is sending me a movie which they filmed and edited.I want the full edited movie so I can just extract scenes from it.
What file, format and size should I ask it for in?
Or would it be better for me to recieve it as a Mini DV and recappture it on my computer?

Desktop Icon Picture size and format limit

I'm pushing out a group policy to desktop but would like to know icon size limits and also what are acceptable formats. Currently using a 12k jpg icon that points to a URL and testing but don't get the picture.

Before going further, we can run command gpresult/h gpreport.html
to check group policy result report to see if the policy setting got applied successfully. Besides, please make sure that users can successfully access the icon file. We can also check event logs in Event Viewer to see if some related events were logged.
If we can't find anything wrong with above troubleshooting, we can use another icon to check if this is related to the icon itself.

Display size and resolution

I am trying to figure out how to make the resolution smaller. All I have come up with and read is how to make the windows smaller, but what I am trying to do is make the whole window smaller (even the words) as well as the menu words on the top. i.e. file, edit, view, history, etc...
Right now I am using the 1680x1050 resolution. I know how to make the window and its inside content smaller, but what I want to do is make the outside of the window including the words smaller.
Any help will be great.

Once you've reached the maximum resolution for the display, you can't make anything else smaller. There are haxies that will change the system font, but being haxies, they will likely break during a future operating system update unless you upgrade them to their tested version with the system update. Two programs that do this are

Shapeshifter also supports numerous themes that change the window border content.
If that's not enough you need a display with higher resolution support to get things any smaller.

IPhotoBook Image File Sizes and Formats

I've got an iMac - about four years old - with Mac OS X 10.6 and iPhoto 8.1
I'm building an iPhotoBook (the Extra Large 13" x 10" Size) of Press Clippings which I'm scanning onto a PC, putting into Photoshop and then transferring to the iMac to create the Photobook. Doing it this way as my Photoshop license is for my PC, plus my PC is newer.
Each of the two or three photobooks will run to possibly 100 pages - unsure what my maximum page count allowed will be.
I'm scanning at 600 DPI using an A3 Scanner.
Saving as a TIFF once I've created the layout of each page in Photoshop.
So I'll end up with a series of pre-built pages for the 13" x 10" book ready to drop into iPhoto Book.
Looking at my file sizes they're currently anywhere between 38 and 45 MB each.
Am I going to run into problems uploading these? Will Photobook be happy with my TIFF files?
Such a vast project want to get it right before I end up going back over my initial work.

Scan to tiff by all means and at a sRGB color profile, but output jpegs. There's nothing to be gained using the tiffs in a book. It's converted to pdf when uploading anyway. Most importing thing, preview the pdf before uploading. That's what your book will look like when finished.

I used to be able to save/export from QT to custom sizes and formats

Is that capability gone in the new QT. I can't remember it is was part of EXPORT or SAVE AS.
Frustrated in not known how to do this...I need to.

++you need QT player 7 for that. it should still be on your computer in /Applications/Utilities.++
I have SL as I said...I looked in both the Utilities and Applications folder...NO QT 7.
Why would Apple remove this great tool from QT? Any other suggestions?

Keynote font and format changing upon paste

Hello Apples.
I have a strange bug with Keynote. When I copy and paste text or graphics from one slide to another in the same presentation, the formatting gets lost. It never happened before. For example, if I copy a text field that is in Arial, when I paste it on another slide, the font switches to Gill Sans and changes size. Also, if I copy a colored rectangle, when I paste it, it switches back to being filled by that horrible default grey mess. I have resported to using "duplicate", then editing the resulting text.
Is there a setting that I may have changed? Thanks in advance.
I am using Lion and Keynote '09.

Still no solution. If I adjust a page that was created in iWeb 08 (now converted to iWeb 09) and republish it in iWeb 09 some font sizes and formatting can change. Any suggestions of how to combat this problem would be gratefully accepted. Thanks

Change Menu Bar Display Size in PE4?

Can the Menu Bar display size and Shortcut Bar Display Size be changed to a larger type for ease of viewing purposes in PE4? If so, how?
