Display status of raid disk

I have create a raid set with two disks.
I have disconnect 1 of them but the system didn't show no warning for this fact.
If I look into disk utility then I see that raid is degraded, but no warning in find.
This may be a problem because if a disk is in failure and the system don't warn it, then you use the raid set like it is ok.
But you work only with one disk and you can have problem if also the second disk goes in failure.
Do you know if there is a way to have a warning if raid set is degraded?

So you have a mirror, and they are on (FW, eSATA, soemthing else?) and each has its own interface cable, right?
And the RAID was created with Apple Disk Utility, maybe Leopard rather than new Snow Leopard (there are usually changes to partition tables and features, and rebuilding is often a good idea - ONCE you know you want to. You may even want to wait until next OS update too.
If you want better warnings and features, buy SoftRAID, and faster mirror read performance.

In a web application, I want to display images on local disk(outside of WebContent of WAR) in jsp. I couldn't put it in "WebContent/images/" because the images are portraits of users and they could be changed dynamically. If I put images in "WebContent/images/", I have to transfer the images back and forth every time when I update my WAR file.

Simple way to make HDD free space is delete files you don't need anymore.
Or get bigger drive and external HDD case, then:
1) install bigger HDD in external drive case.
2) connect external drive and format and mount it with Disk Utility.
3) make clone with Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper!(source drive is internal HDD, target drive is external one).
4) install external bigger drive into your Macbook Pro.
In the cace if your're using Mac Pro:
1) get bigger HDD and install it in drive bay of Mac Pro.
2) format and mount it with Disk Utility.
3) make clone with Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper!(source drive is old HDD, target drive is new one).
4) Select boot drive to new bigger one.

W2k8R2 Windows Backup - BMR on different disk configuration - How to move one parition of three parition to an other raid-disk?

I need your help in following situation.
My source-system has 1 RAID5 (600GB) over 5 HDDs. On the RAID-Disk are one primary partition (250GB) and 1 extended partitions (350GB).
Because the hardware is out of support, I will migrate it to new hardware-server. I must minimized the downtime and the administrative effort. So I can't reinstall a new windows-installation, because 4 different software-licences are binding on SID. Additional
a DFS-R is configured, so I need some hours to reconfigure it.
The new destination-system has one RAID1 (300GB) that I will use it for windows-system, and one RAID 6 (1TB) that is planed for data.
I has make a full backup (with all Critical) by using Windows Server Backup to a NAS storage. Than I has boot my destination system from Windows Server 2008 R2 media, and will make a recover. All Hard Disk is detected, after I install the storage-drivers. When
I confirm the last step in windows-server-backup, windows-backup stop with error "Not enough space on harddisk 0"
How can I move the extended partition to harddisk 1 (RAID6) durring BMR??? I cann't exclude the volume in backup-procedure, because the DFS-R is installed with some share on this disk.
Has anyone a idea?

Hi,
I'm afraid we will not get it resolved. BMR will restore the partition information so you need at least a 600GB disk/RAID to restore both Drive C and D - it will create partitions on disk/RAID but cannot be separated restore to different disks/RAIDs.
How about get another 300GB disk and change your system RAID from RAID1 to RAID5. (Or change RAID1 to RAID0 but of course you will lose fault tolerance ability).

DMS Web Documents: cant display status log

I have a problem in web documents.
When I config Setup WebDocuments(BSP), I chose Display Status Log, Display version, Display Hierarchy, Send, Delete, Create New Version.
But in web page, I cant see Display Status Log, Display version, Display Hierarchy while Send , Delete, New Version is display when I display 1 document number.
What must I do?

Video FX: video effects and editing drive (incl. RAID disk arrays)

Having had an issue with rendering iMovie effects and read through a few posted thread, I ran an experiment that pinpoints an incompatibility between iMovie and large size (800GB) RAID array volumes. Hence the following questions:
Is iMovie designed to support large sire RAID disk arrays ?
Could anybody test a non-RAID array large size (say 500GB or better 1000GB) volume to check if it is size or RAID dependent ?
When can we expect a fix ?

Reading through the other threads talking about the Quartz composer effects, it sounds like the Apple programmers have a lot of work ahead to deliver a more robust 6.0.2 version.
I wanted to record the noticed incompatibility of working with a project outside the System & Application drive and applying Quartz composer effects.
Most keen videographers are using either a good large size external drive, a RAID array or a separate partition to store their video footage and editing work. So the noticed incompatibility needs to be looked into.
Interestingly, I read of other users having the same problem but Karl Petersen also mentionned that he didn't have the problem ...
So, what's wrong ? If the problem would be consistent, it would be easy to have Apple on their toes to fix it, but if not ...
So I ran a small experiment. I took the same iMovie project and copied it to my different disks and volumes (at least the ones where I had enough space) and tested 3 types of effects:
-1- the non-Quartz Composer 'fast/slow/reverse' effect, which caused me trouble already in iMovie '05;
-2- the Quartz Composer 'sepia tone' effect, which I was using without problem in the previous version;
-3- the non-Quartz Composer 'aged film' effect, which I was using without problem in the previous version;
My disk and volume configuration is the following:
-> First internal 500GB Serial ATA Disk split into 3 partitions:
a) 30GB System & Applications Drive (Start-up Disk);
b) 20GB Pictures Drive;
c) 415.6GB Partition as Slice 1 of my Apple RAID array;
-> Second internal 500GB Serial ATA Disk split into 4 partitions:
d) 15GB Virtual PC System & Applications Drive;
e) 15GB MAC & PC Documents Drive;
f) 20GB Musics Drive;
g) 415.6GB Partition as Slice 2 of my Apple RAID array;
-> Internal 831.3GB Apple RAID Array - striped RAID set made of 2 slices (volumes c and g above);
-> External 120GB FireWire Disk in one volume.
All volumes are formated using Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format.
The result is consistent and points towards an incompatibility of iMovie with either very large size volume or RAID array. Indeed, all tested effects preview fine on all tested volumes, however, they can be applied seemlessly on all tested volumes apart for my large size RAID array.
When the project is on the RAID array, hitting the apply button results in the following:
For the non-Quartz Composer 'fast/slow/reverse' effect and the Quartz Composer 'sepia tone' effect, rendering starts but then stops a fraction of a second later (as if it was unable to write the rendered file to disk). Resulting image in the video viewer is shifted diagonally to leave a black corner on the bottom-left.
For the non-Quartz Composer 'aged film' effect, rendering starts and proceeds but the resulting image in the video viewer is again shifted diagonally to leave a black corner on the bottom-left. Note that resizing the iMovie window corrects this viewer issue.
Conclusion:
Is iMovie designed to support large sire RAID disk arrays ?
Could anybody test a non-RAID array large size (say 500GB or better 1000GB) volume to check if it is size or RAID dependent ?
When can we expect a fix ?

I had the same problem rendering a movie with iMovie 6 when the file is placed on a second internal disk.
Clicking the 'Ignore ownership on this volume' tick box is a solution but I find it too blunt. My Mac is configured as a multiuser system and I bought the second internal disk to use it for my /Users directory. I thus don't want the different users to be able to create files in each others directories.
When unclicking the 'Ignore ownership on this volume' tick box again I'm surprised to find that rendering still works fine for all users with the desired file integrity.
I would have preferred to set up all the permissions using unix commands instead of all this magic. Can anyone explain the proper way to configure the correct permissions using the Terminal?

You need to do the following three steps in order to have "status" indicators on your ALV list:
(1) Add a status or exception field to your itab definition, e.g.
TYPES: BEGIN OF ty_s_outtab.
TYPES: status(4)    TYPE c.      " status field for LED / traffic light
INCLUDE TYPE KNB1.
TYPES: END OF ty_s_outtab.
DATA:
gt_outtab TYPE STANDARD TABLE OF ty_s_outtab
                           WITH DEFAULT KEY.
(2) Define the status field in the layout (LVC_S_LAYO):
gs_layout-excp_fname = 'STATUS'. " name of the status/exception field

Accidently resolved RAID 0 via diskutility. The disks are untouched and found as offline RAID disk. Any chance to put them togehther again?

You don't break a stripe array into two drives and have anything to work with, you can easily break a mirror raid though.
SoftRAID "takes over" and replaces from Apple's and can 'recover' an array.
You should never work with or run with a stripe RAID0 and not have a couple current backups - unless the array is just for scratch.
Data recovery only read the volume, and recovers to another physical hard drive, it is not done "in place." that would be disk repair type operations, such as Disk Warrior 4.4. Data Rescue 3 is what most people try to use first, demo mode. If it seems to work then $99 to buy.
SoftRAID 4 $129 might be your only choice though I think something is getting lost in translation as to what type and nature and its current state. Email support there, they will walk you through.
And have 3-4 more drives to work with. A large enough drive for backup, one for recovery, and two new drives taht you will want to initialize, zero, and use to build a new 2nd array. Say a pair of WD Black 1.5TB $159 each.
SoftRAID will test all your drive surface for defects during initialize (long format) and during idle background scan.

Call TAC, they'll have you open a secure. support tunnel from your WSA, and they can dig into what's happening.
There isn't much you can actually do to the raid set.
You should also backup your configuration off of the box. Make sure to save it with the passwords unmasked, so if they have to send a replacement, you'll have something to restore.

I am a good Apple Customer who buy the Apple Care with each piece of Apple I buy... I love the Apple but it is the 2nd Comand where I have a bug issue.
Last one was a Logistic problem. 2 Items were missing; the least expanssive but it was missing and it tooks me 2 monthe to get it.
On the 2 ITems there was a pocket Projector... I am still wondering what it is the use of this procket Projector.
It does not accept Powerpoint presentation. It does not accept live connection to your mac... Well I have not yet called about it but I am very dissappointed when I received it 2 monthe after the date when I should have received it and many phone calls and emails...
This Time I have used the configurator fro, Apple to buy a Configuration with a MAC MINI SERVER + 1 PEGASUS and a TB Cable.... BUT THE DISPLAY USE THE TB Port and then I Have no port TB left for the PEGASUS 4 x1 Go RAID....
I had bought the DISPLAY 1 month before. The latest for MAC MINI and MAC BOOK Air....
Ì have called APPLECARE Today and I am waiting a call for monday...
I would be very disapointed if this SERVER COULD NOT SUPPORT A TB DISPLAY AND TB 4x1 GB HDD

S.M.A.R.T status, performance, and disk I/O issues

Basically, this post is about performance issues, that seem to be related to the hard drive.
1 month ago, I started having problems with applications freezing for a dozen of seconds, then working back after the beachball cursor stopped spinning. During this time, I heard the hard drive accessing data very regulary, but not with a worrying sound, just normal noise of the heads moving.
I checked the S.M.A.R.T status in disk utility more than once, but everything seemed to be ok there.
Then I decides to make a full surface test using TechTool Pro 4 : It passed, without stops, spinning beachball, nothing.
Now I no longer have applications stopping, everything works fine, but I notice (heard) a large amount of I/O's that sounds abnormal to me, comparing to the way my machine worked before that.
I have 1GB RAM, so I don't think this is a memory/swap problem.
The questions are :
- How relevant is the S.M.A.R.T status displayed in Disk Utility, does a correct status indicated a clean disk ?
- What should I check to find why the hard drive is working so much for simple operations ?

The SMART status is rather conservative: an "about to fail" is a certainty (the question being when?) whereas a "verified" simply means that the monitor hasn't seen anything...
* First check the Activity Monitor to see if effectively there is a lot of disk I/O taking place.
* Second, when did you last restart your machine? A spinning beach ball with a lot of disk I/O could simply mean teh creation of a swapfile...
* Lastly, how full is your HD? You need at least 5%-10% of free space on your disk for Tiger to be happy. What is even better is if that free space is as contiguous as possible. OSX does a tremedous job keeping fragmentation low for files (one does not need any software to defragment files), but does not look at free space and sometimes one ends up with lace: loads of tiny holes. There are quite few threads regarding fragmentation that will explain this much better than I can do...

XServe RAID disks not showing up in Disk Utility

I have a new (to me) xServe RAID box and I'm stuck, the stays lights are green the fiber link light is green on the RAID and not lit on the PCI card but shows up as green in the fiber link section of the settings tool but the RAID array doesn't show up in Disk Utility so I can't format the drives.
I set up the disks as Enhanced JBOD using RAIDadmin and I've deleted and created it a couple of times, I'm just not sure what else I should try, I've read the manual but. Can't find any suggestions of what's going wrong.

In the system Profiler I'm not sure what you're asking for, I'm running 10.5.8 standard not server.
the fibre channel shows link established 2Gps and cable type copper but nothing else, the disks & RAID controller don't show up anywhere I've looked.
RAID Admin shows the JBOD disks as online and lists the LUNs etc.
System looks fine, only error is missing second power supply.

Display shivers on Hard Disk activity

The problem I have has been discussed here before. The display of my eMac shivers when the Hard Disk is accessed. The problems started after I replaced the IVAD cable to fix the raster shift problem (which I do not experience anymore). So far I have read on this forum that more people have experienced the same problem. But what I am interested in is a fix for this problem! It seems to be some kind of shielding problem. Could this also be related to the IVAD cable? I do believe that simply adding shielding at the right place should fix the problem, but where? Maybe anyone else has already experimented on finding a fix for this problem and is willing to share any ideas.

4GB files on a 32-bit kernel and you run into what I call a bottleneck.
More RAM helps; and using dual RAID0's also allows for more I/O.
2GB left over falls into the anemia category.
The system drive from other experiments, tests, and benchmarks, does a lot more than just sit there and feed up applications.
And just as a fast SSD or 10K drive, or setting those up in RAID0, offers 240-500MB/sec, your memory bandwidth also plays a role.
When working with 2GB files in CS2 and later, arrays for every volume + whatever RAM you can throw at it helps.
Some operations are still single-thread and hold everything up, when you export or save or write to disk RAID makes up for some of that. A file is written out as temp file, old file is renamed, and when done deleted, while the directory and index are updated. And Spotlight rather than wait for things to be done, CAN get in the way while you work.
I don't know the full gist, but back in G3/G4, SCSI arrays made a big enough difference that I splurged on the full setup (two dual channel controllers driving 15K and 10K drives). And without? it was a real tortoise.
If you think 2GB is 'enough' to run OS X alone, let alone Safari, iTunes, Pages or office apps, let alone any pro apps or ones that need some RAM... CS4+ should have an 8GB system.
And the RAM needs of a Mac Pro have just never been as low or comparable to your desktop or laptop system.
But stay with 4GB if you don't mind.
