the apple symbol with the wheel turning and then it goes black.
The Apple symbol is loaded off your Boot device, so that was found and seems to be working.
The spinner indicates the system is loading. If the spinner spins for the usual amount of time, the next thing to happen is the login screen. That is the moment that the Mac switches to fully-automatic graphics using the loaded Driver.
In combination with the other screen anomalies you have been seeing, I think it is time to take your Mac to an appointment at the genius Bar for an evaluation (FREE, in warranty or out!) It may have a Hardware Problem.

  • 17" MacBook Pro Display stopped working

    Hello,
I have a 17" 2.6GHz Intel Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro (purchased January 2008) and the display stopped working today. There is no light behind the Apple logo on the back or the display. The little white light by the latch works as normal, and I can hear the disk spin up when I power it off and on using the power button.
When I connect to an external monitor, there is no signal. When the machine is powered on, I can see the drive on the network. I have also tried booting up using an install CD as well, but no luck.
Yesterday, I updated all my software applications and did all the Apple software updates, everything worked fine. I am still on Snow Leopard, version 10.6.8.
    Any suggestions? Is it toast?

Went to the Genius Bar yesterday. It's part of the NVIDIA issue.

They had the part in stock should be able to repair it in 1-3 days.

  • 23" studio display stopped working

My 23" studio display stopped working with my mac pro but works with MBP.
It started by not waking up everytime my Mac Pro went to sleep, but if I unplugged it and plugged it all back it and restarted it would come on however now the screen will not even come on. The power light is on and when I plug it into my MBP it works fine.
I'm not exactly a tech whiz but could it be the graphics card? Which is currently - ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512MB
It's out of warranty so before I trek down to the Apple store I thought I'd see if I can fix it myself.
Any help would be appreciated thanks!

Same for me, after having installed SL and allowing the computer to go to sleep. When trying to wake it up, the computer boots (at least it sounds so), but the display stays black. If in system prefs/energysaving/ I set the computer to "never sleep" but allow the screen to go asleep it works OK. As soon as the computer goes to rest it is impossible to get the screen working again, have to do a physical reboot. Works fine then......., but I really would like to use the energy savings prefs!
I've looked into other threads of similar topics, did not find any clues. Judging by the number of threads, this is a well-known issue, waiting for to be answered by Apple.
    Suggestions?

  • External Display Stopped Working

I've been using an external Dell 19" monitor with my beloved and faithful Macbook Pro for years.  All of a sudden, I was unable to select the propert setting for the external monitor.  Two days later the monitor stopped working altogether when plugged into the Mac.  The Mac screen acts like the other monitor is working, but there's nothing on the external screen.  The Dell monitor tries repeatedly to turn on, but the power button repeatedly changed from amber to blue while saying it's entering power save mode and never turns on.  I've tried changing screen savers as recommended on another forum to no avail.  I also ordered a new mini-DVI to AVG connector in the hopes that is the issue.  I've confirmed that the Dell monitor still works fine by connecting it to my old PC, so that's not the issue.  Any advice is appreciated.  I read copy for a living and really need the larger display.  Thanks!

Try doing a Parameter RAM reset - hold down command/option/p/r keys at start up and wait for three chimes before releasing the keys.

I cannot even see the bios screen. The laptops normally, I don't hear any beeps while booting, just the fact that there is no display.
This laptop has a ATI M86 512MB graphics card. Its out of warranty.
Has any had similar experience. Is there any way to find out what the problem might be.
    Any suggestions would be helpful.
    Thanks

    Hi Tama
Im afraid there is an serious hardware problem with your notebook.
I looks like the graphic card problem.
Usually if the internal display would be faulty, you should see everything on the external display. Therefore I think you GPU is affected.

    If the iPod is dry
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
-If you still have the problem that indicates that the water damaged the iPod.

  • Unibody mac book display stopped working!!!! please help

    Hello all,
My display has stopped working, my 13 inch mac book still start up fine and I can see the desktop very very light if I place the display in sunlight. the keyboard still lights up. what could be the problem, no apple care. worse case scenario?
    thank you

If your warranty hasn't expired, bring the computer in to an Apple store and have the folks there take a look.
All Macs come with a one-year warranty, and even if you have the aluminum unibody MacBook (the one without a Firewire port), you still have a warranty till sometime in October, so take advantage of it!

  • Rebel Xsi display stopped working will not take photo

I have had this camera for a few years.  I took it with me and left it covered in the car (hot day) and now the display will not light up and the camera will focus on an object but will not take photo.
Would heat cause the display to stop working?  What can be done to possibly correct this issue?

  • My 24 inch cinema display stopped working

My 24 inch cinema display just flickered and stopped working.  The power is still there, the sound is still their.  isight camera doesn't appear to be on, the screen is black.  My display window in settings still reconginizes another display, but the screen is just black.  I've tried all the normal trouble shootings, ie resetting the SMC, and PRAM, but no luck.  I have never had any problems with it at all.  Any help would be appreciated.

  • System Settings - Display stopped working

Whats up with that? A fresh arch install with KDE. Display settings worked in the begininng but now nothing happens when I click it. All other settings work. Last thing I did in display settings was to set up dual monitors with nvidia tool.

There is a bug report for this over at Kubuntu. Maybe they'll come up with something other than disabling xinerama. (Or maybe that's where you got the idea?)

  • Second display stopped working

    Greetings all,
I have an Intel-based 20" iMac, running 10.5.8. For over 2 years I've been using a second monitor by way of the mini DVI adaptor on the back. Just last week the iMac stopped recognizing the second monitor so to speak (screen stays black, but I can grab things like Finder windows and drag them over to where the second monitor should be, and if i disconnect the cable from the iMac to the second monitor, then reconnect it toggles like it wants to recognize it, but doesn't complete it). I checked the monitor, and it does work with a different computer. I also purchased a new dvi-mini dvi connector through Apple hoping that would fix it. I attached the new connector and my computer recognized my monitor and everything was fine, for one day. Now it's not recognizing it again. Anyone have this problem? Any solutions?

Hey - I was just wondering if you'd had any resolution to your issue of the second monitor not working? I just came home from being out of town and my second monitor has stopped working? It shows as though it is in stand-by (according to the power button) but nothing more. Not really sure what to do as I've already checked all the connections and etc. Assistance would be greatly appreciated!

  • External monitor display stopped working

I was on 10.9.2, and from one day to the other, the HDMI connection did not worked any more. My external  27" Samsung remained black. I thought it might come from the HDMI slot on my MacBook Pro Retina (15, early 2013).
I bought a Mini Display port to VGA, did not worked, I tried on other display, don't work, I rest the Pram etc, nothing... I upgrade to 10.9.3. No change.
The display preference Panel does not recognize any thing else than the Retina dsplay... any other display connected is not seen.
I checked the hardwre : diagnostics says everything is alright.
Any idea what the problem is ?
    Thanks

According to Apple technician, it's probably a hardware problem... everything else works fine. But for me it is just impossible to work without a larger display.
My MacBook Pro (Retina!) was purchased 1 and a half year ago. The only choice now seems to be to buy a new mainboard. I paid 1500 euro for the laptop, the repairs will cost +/- 1000 euro. Just for  a problem connecting an external display.
How can I explain it : it really, really make me furious. More than 20 years along with macs... and so many bad experiences of this kind these last years.
Apple should stop selling computers and stick to smartphones only.
Alright, I will buy next a windows based computer. Oh ! all my professionnal soft are for Mac, I will have to buy them all again...
    Traped.

  • My external display stopped working

My external display works on other computers and worked on my imac fine untill a week ago when it stopped wroking. I reset PRAM and that seemed to do the trick, now it is not working again and the PRAM rest is not working. How would you proceed form here???

Turn the iMac off and unplug the power cord for about 15 seconds and then try again. You may also want to disconnect all peripherals except the second monitor while testing. If it works then add things back one by one to see if something else is causing the issue.

  • The Logic Board of my MacBook Pro Retina Display stopped working.

I purchased my MacBook Pro Retina Display 13 months ago. Barring a few errors the computer functioned beautifully, and I maintained it with the care it deserved. On Wednesday, last week, the laptop ceased to work completely. It wouldn't start, or charge. On submitting it for repair, I was informed that the logic board failed. Since its warranty lapsed a month ago, $1050 is required for its replacement. That outrageous amount is more than half of what I paid initially for the laptop. The service provider would not agree to any concession, or plea.
For an Apple enthusiast, it is very disheartening to learn that its foremost product stops operating in this manner. I am a high school senior, who has accustomed himself to his computer, and cannot at this time purchase a new laptop, let alone a Windows laptop. With college admission deadlines fast approaching, I solicit your help and suggestions, very desparately.

As much as it will suck to hear this answer, there really is no solution. Because the computer is now out of warranty, you have to pay the full $1050 to get the logic board replaced. I know this is a large sum of money, but you have to remember that the logic board includes the CPU, Graphics Card and RAM, all soldered onto the board. You're paying to replace all of the most expensive components of your computer, even if only one of them failed.
So, long story short, you'll have to either pay to replace the logic board, because it's out of warranty, or buy a new computer.

  • Imac - external display stopped working

    Hi All,
My imac has developed a problem overnight. I usually have the imac connected to an external display via the mini-DVI connection and everything worked fine. (to DVI --> HDMI --> Pioneer Plasma).
However today the imac could not be awoken from sleep. Restarting gets to the desktop screen but then goes gray screen. After much troubleshooting, I have isolated the problem to the mini DVI port. The computer will not complete booting up if the mini dvi port is connected. Just in case it was a problem with the mini-dvi to dvi adaptor, I tested it with a mini dvi to vga adaptor. Exactly the same problem with the booting sequence (gray screen as it gets to the desktop image stage). Without the mini DVI port in use, the imac boots up fine.
Could somebody please give me some suggestions re any further troubleshooting procedures I could try to fix the problem, or does it sound like a videocard hardware problem? Thanks for any thoughts.
