Display Tears in Flurry Screensaver

Hi I have a Week 43 15" MBP C2D 2.33GHz with a Matte display.
I noticed when testing the Flurry screensaver that when I watch it for a couple of minutes a significant horizontal tear starts from the bottom and works its way to the top. I did read elsewhere on the forum and the web that this is not unusual. I also read that EVERY new Mac with an ATI graphics card suffers this problem as the screensaver hasn't been updated. Is this true? Do other MacBook Pro users notice this?
I do not care about this issue much as I will never really use the screensavers as the notebook is set to sleep first. My main concern is that other 3D Video applications (such as games) might suffer the same problem. The RSS Visualiser seems to be okay and no lines appear. Does anybody have more insight into this issue?

This behaviour is consistant across all Mac systems so please don't be concerned with it.

  • Display settings switch upon screensaver launch

    Hi,
I've been having some issues with my display settings changing every time my screensaver launches. Without fail, my color settings are switching from LCD to sRGB profile everytime my system comes out of screensaver.
    My system is as follows:
ibook g4 14", panther 3.9, and standard os x screensaver
Why is this? Anyone got any ideas how to fix?
    Thanks,

  • Display tearing

The current situation is that my display is not working for my HP desktop. The display (monitor)  I'm using is Acer. It was working just yesterday however today, I was using the display on another desktop. When I reconnected the display back to my HP desktop the screen has tears of pixelation. What I mean is that the screen still works well enough to perform task on the computer it's just every second parts of the screen become pixelated and random colors, in small streaks not large portions. I know it is not a problem with the monitor itself or the connecting cord because I tested them on my older desktop. I hope that description was enough to help you guys out. I'm hoping to find out if it's a problem with the port or graphics drivers or something else. Any help is appreciated.

Sadly no. It's with any preview of any content within a ram preview in AE CS6. Here are a few sample images of a simple Solid layer moving across the screen. It's just in the preview never in the final render output. But it's all through all of my projects...so distracting I'm just sticking with CS5 for now.

  • MBP I/O "Freezing" & Display Tearing

my macbook pro's i/o freezes quit often... when this is "i/o freeze" happens... the display freezes and the "colorful spinning beach ball" spins non stop... mouse movement is recognized and the beach ball is correctly moved around... but clicking does nothing... the keyboard is also unresponsive unless it is a function key being pressed...
i said that this is only a "i/o freeze" because music still continues to play normally... and i am still able to "use" the system through ssh from another computer... it seems like the only problem is some of the i/o (keyboard, mouse, and display)...
i was able to have it happen less often when i increase the fan speed manually, but it does not always help... the temperature which this happens is not consistent...
sometimes i am able to get the display to "wake up" by closing the lid... let it go to standby mode (with the light pulsing) then re-open the lid... but this does not always work either... sometimes the whole system would freeze when i try this method... (a complete freeze, not just an i/o freeze)
    anyone else getting similar problems?

See if this applies to your MBP:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377
If so, it extends the warranty to two years.
You don't show the specific model of MBP you have; those with ATI graphics chipsets (or "GPU") are not covered under Extension Plan, just those with the nVidea 8600GT.
You can determine if you have the affected nVidea GPU by running System Profiler in you Utilities folder. Once SP is running, select "Graphics/Displays" for SP's left-hand navigation pane. The chipset name and model number will appear in the main SP window.
A clue to look for is the entry for "PCIe Lane Width." If it is not "x16" then you have a GPU problem.

  • Can i rewind a picture displayed on screensaver slideshow, to view it once more

I would like to be able to rewind and view a picture that was displayed when using the screensaver on my iMac, as you can do on a Microsofts XP system...any ideas please

Have you looked at Delete and Close Gap as well as Delete for what you describe?
Nonetheless, adding or moving clips to an existing Timeline content without disturbing the existing Timeline content can be challenging and complex under certain scenarios.
Typical solutions include making these moves with a keyboard modified held down (Windows Alt or Ctr). I am strictly an Elements Windows user, so we will need to find the Mac counterparts for the Windows keyboard modifier techniques.
Also, if one move triggers a multi-chain disaster, then you should consider grouping block of clips so that they do not move while you are busy with your Timeline maneuvers. Check out the Clip Menu options for Group and Ungroup.
Some times in the "Mac condition", you need to use fn in addition to the command to achieve some of these Windows counterparts.
The following video tutorial on arranging clips and keyboard modifiers is being posted for informational non promotional reasons.
Premiere Elements: Arranging clips on the Timeline using modifier keys | lynda.com - YouTube
It is demo'd with Premiere Elements 8, but the principles are the same for later versions of the program.
Here is one variation of the issue on Windows.
ATR Premiere Elements Troubleshooting: PE: Delete and Close Gap Failures
You should not have to delete audio to prevent it from being split by an addition to an existing Timeline. The keyboard modifiers should help you resolve this type of issue.

  • Screensaver/ not working with 2 displays (Boxee, XBMC)?

    Hi there, i've got following setup;
    2011 iMac 27" at 2560x1440 (Display 1)
Sony 42" LCD connected via MiniDV to HDMI at 1920x1080 (Display 2)
Boxee mediaplayer software for OSX (http://www.boxee.tv/make), however the same issues apears with XMBC software (hereafter Mediaplayer)
    Configuration:
    - Mediaplayer has been configurated to use Display 2 only
    - OSX Screensaver is set to kick in within 5 minutes on Main Screen Only (=Display 1)
    - Display sleep is set to kick in at 20 minutes
    Issue description:
    - Mediaplayer works perfectly, plays movies on Display 2
    - However the screensaver does not kick in on Display 1 while Mediaplayer is active, even not after some hours, same for Display sleep
    - FYI there are no overlapping items or windows from Display 1 to 2 and vice-versa.
    Questions:
Does anybody have a clue what could be wrong here?
How can i blank (or at best turn off) Display 1 while watching a movie on Display 2 either by using standard OSX settings or by some utility?
    Thanks

Have had same issues trying to edit HD video with Mac Pro system using ATI Radeon 4870 HD, with latest snow Leopard sw rev. SOMETIMES the card works fine- displaying Final Cut Pro Browser video on my 30" Apple cinema display coming out from the multi pin output of the 4870, and a Sony 46" Bravia for client review, via the mini DVI output, using an Apple purchased Moshi, mini DVI to HDMI converter. An earlier posting suggested that the sequence of booting up was the root cause, but I'm not sure about that. Apple FCP support pointed to plist corruption, which also seemed to resolve the problem for awhile, but again, it resurfaced. Now Apple claim that they will not certify that it will provide HD video out from that configuration (mini DVI to HDMI), which is strange since it works, but not consistently. A friend who has the same card, suggested root cause may be that Quartz Extreme support under my System Profiler / Hardware / ATI Radeon 4870HD is missing! Another person reported that when he upgraded recent SW, it disabled Quartz Extreme- not sure whether this is root cause yet or not. Still not resolved. Suggestions welcome.

  • Spaces ctrl-arrow and cmd-tab no longer works after screensaver is active

    MacBook 13", running 10.5.8
When the macbook boots up, these work fine, but once the screen saver comes on, none of these shortcut keys works any longer. Searched for this problem, and found a couple of suggested solutions, including removing the screensaver plist file. Nothing has worked so far. Of note, if I use the screensaver "test" button to activate the screen saver, this does not happen. This only happens after the screensaver activates on its own. The screensaver being used is the "Flurry" screensaver that shipped with it. I have tried all of the other ones, and get the same behavior.
Here are other special things about my system:
    1. Digidesign Core Audio Driver
    2. Logic Studio Pro 9
    3. System runs in clamshell (although problem exists when using the 13" display as well)
    4. Using the Apple keyboard with numeric pad
    5. System's display is currently a 23" acer monitor
All of these things except for 3, 4, and 5 have been running since I bought the system in March 2009. 3, 4, and 5 were started about 3 weeks ago. This problem just became an issue within the past 3 days.
    Any help is much appreciated.

Further update. I can no longer change the screensaver. When I try by right clicking on the desktop and then choosing change desktop background, system preferences hangs. If I open system preferences directly, it will open, but when I click on the icon to change the screen saver, it also hangs.

  • Screensaver does not end after specified time

i am running 10.6.4 on a 2008 Mac Pro. i have set the "flurry" screensaver to start after 5 minutes of inactivity, and set the display to go to sleep after 10 minutes. The screensaver starts after 5 minutes but does not turn off after 10 minutes, it stays on for an indefinite time.
Also the schedule i have created for my computer to shut down does not work either.
Since i have encountered this problem i have noticed that the status indicator light on the front of my 4TB WD MyBook Studio Edition II, connected via e-sata is not flashing but permanently on. This is happening even though i am not accessing the drive. Perhaps this could be the culprit.

That sounds like the preferences file may be corrupted.
Quit System Preferences, then delete this file:
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.PowerManagement.plist
    Then re-enter your sleep/shutdown preferences.

If a process is running and using that disk, it could prevent system shutdown, but not display sleep.
Is that new behavior for the WD? Is Spotlight continuously indexing that drive (a dot in the spotlight indicator at the right of your Menubar)?

  • "Ken Burns" and other photo screen savers scramble my display

I have a three-display Mac Pro which I have just upgraded to Mavericks.   My rightmost display is a Dell P2012H rotated 90º, and every time a photo-based screen saver activates, that display gets scrambled.  While the screen saver is running it looks like one of those tile-shifting puzzles being randomized, except instead of a single image it's a combination of the desktop and whatever screensaver image was being displayed.  When the screensaver deactivates, the display stays in whatever state it was last in while the screen saver was running, making that display completely useless.  In order to reset it I have to switch resolutions and then switch back.
If I un-rotate the display, or use a non-photo screen saver (such as Flurry) then everything's fine.
It looks like the problem may be display-driver specific, as I've tried rotating one of my other displays (A Samsung SyncMaster) and that does not experience the same problem.
This looks like a bug in the screen savers or in the display rotation code.  Anyone else see this?  I can probably live without the photo screen savers, but I'm wondering if I'm going to run into any other screen rotation bugs in Mavericks.

“...not use Ken Burns with vertically oriented photos...” -- WHAT!?!?!?!?!?! You’re kidding, right?
...I’m sorry, but personally, after Apple made the Ken Burn Effect completely USELESS for “portrait” oriented photos, I was both astonished and outraged, and have been hoping for a TRUE fix ever since. Sure, for video, later versions of iMovie do some nice things, but why on earth would Apple all of a sudden have made the Ken Burn Effect viable for only half of my photographs?!? I’ve created several DVD slideshows, most of them containing 80-90% still photos, and I am insulted by the suggestion that “padding” photographs (adding black to the sides of every “portrait” photo), via Automator or not, is the answer -- that is utter ridiculousness -- that feature should never have been removed in the first place!!! (ADD features Apple, don’t REMOVE them!!!) The only thing that would entice me to upgrade to iLife 11 would be having this simple, but to me, absolutely necessary functionality back.
...So, can you tell me if the Ken Burns Effect has been fixed in the latest iLife 11 version of iMovie to treat ALL photos equally?

  • Mac OS 10.5 - Cisco VPN - Screensaver Security Password Crash

    Hi
I have a client who has a MacBook Pro running Mac OS 10.5.6 and uses the Cisco VPN client version 4.9.01 (0100) so that he can work remotely from home. The problem he is experiencing is when he VPN'd into his office network and leaves his computer unattended for enough time for his screen saver to cut and then returns to the computer and it prompts him for his account password to exit the screen saver it crashes. This is not the case if he does not have VPN connection.
I have checked with him which screen saver as some, like the Apple RSS Visualizer, require a valid internet connection to download RSS feeds and I know that the Cisco VPN Client when actively connected to a Cisco router can cannibalise ones network connection thus not allowing the download of RSS feed. Anyway this is not the case as he uses Apple Flurry screensaver.
Anyone have any ideas what might be causing this problem?
    Thanks in advance.
    Anton

The problem with that is that my client does Cinema 4D work and leaves his system unattended when his drawing are rendering and has password to stop his pesky children causing problems. Sleep would cause the system to hibernate and spin the hard disk down which would pause any rendering from processing in the background.

  • Blinking display when sleeping.

I just noticed this today, and a search didn't turn up any similar problems. I came back to my mbp after doing something else, and I think it had gone to sleep in power adapter mode. I just have the display sleep and not the cpu when power is connected. The display was flashing off and on at about once/sec. It returned to normal as soon as I entered anything on the keyboard. My wifes Macbook does this occasionally, too.
Anyone have any experienct with this?

Sometimes. I believe it's an interaction between the display being off, the screensaver and the screensaver password mechanism (it's used when you wake a system and it asks for your password).

  • "@" missing on screensaver - e71 NAM

I just noticed something since I updated to 9.6.0.12 (the one with improved html): when the phone has the screensaver on (dimmed display with the time and date) and a new email message comes in, the "@" does not display on the screensaver.
It used to display the "@" on the screensaver in previous versions.
I wonder if this is a bug or a new feature.

    Hi, rossiman01.
Duplicate or missing preference panes — what you thought to be folders in System Preferences — are usually caused by cache corruption. To resolve this:
    1. Quit System Preferences if it is open.
    2. Open your Home > Library > Caches folder.
    3. Trash the following two files therein:
    • com.apple.preferencepanes.cache
    • com.apple.preferencepanes.searchindexcache
    4. Empty the Trash.
    5. Launch System Preferences and all should be well.

  • Screen Lock - No Screensaver

    Hi all!
Got a Q, ever since upgrading to SL, when i do "Lock Screen" from the keychain access menu item, the screen locks and goes black, but the screensaver no longer activates.
In Leopard, when i locked the screen it let my flurry screensaver run.
Anyone else have this? or is it an upgrade glitch?
    Cheers

I see the same behaviour, but I'm not sure whether it is or isn't a bug. However, it is inconsistent with the previous behavior of OS X.
Curiously, in previous versions of Mac OS X (pre-10.6) there was an intermittent bug where the Security pref pane did not respect the "Require password after sleep or screen saver begins" setting. At some point it always defaulted to requiring authentication after the screen saver was triggered (even if that option was unselected).
I have noticed that the "Require password after ..." setting above now works correctly under Snow Leopard (10.6). Perhaps that fix involved decoupling the screen saver from the "Lock Screen" action of Keychain Access? One may rationalize that locking a screen does not necessarily imply running a screen saver.

  • Screensaver preferences not saving

Whenever I change my Screensaver it doesn't stay set.
I'm guessing it's something to do with the preference file being corrupt or similar.
Does anyone have any suggestions ? Or what file I should delete ?
It's always defaulting to the 'Flurry' screensaver.
    Many thanks,
    Alan

It appears that the screensaver module name when one is selected by the user is stored in the user's "~/Library/Preferences/ByHost" folder in the "com.apple.screensaver...." property list file. In the absence of the file, the default is "Flurry". That file also stores the setting to require a password to unlock the screen after "sleep", or the screensaver, so if the computer doesn't belong to you, it is possible that the owner has attempted to lock down that setting, but otherwise, that might be the file to try deleting...

  • Lion ScreenSaver re-active hang during read my iPhoto pictures

    Hi,
My Lion cannot display password logon during screensaver is reading my iPhoto pictures.
Because I setup my screensaver to random display my iPhoto pictures.
I have an external monitor with my MacBook. Both of my monitors will display iPhoto pictures with screensaver.
Screen hang if i'd like to re-active from screensaver to normal operation mode.
That will be fine if screensaver reads iPhoto pictures and start to display them.
Hang status happen during screensaver still reading iPhoto pictures for 2~3 seconds and before display them.
Please check what's happen with this kind of issue for current Lion OS X 10.7.3
    Many thanks

    Hi Mike,
I just saw this post and saw no one has responded.  You might have figured out but in case, I wanted to let you know what I found out.  I had the same problem.  Hard drive failure, they installed a new one and my iPhoto pictures were missing.  I couldn't find them on Time Machine either which baffled (and frustrated) me b/c I just backed up my drive and I was missing pictures from over a year ago.
I found this article and it allowed me to at least find my pictures...so they weren't lost after all.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/16029742#16029742
As for why they aren't showing up in iPhoto or Time Machine, the lady at the Mac store said it is probably an OS conflict.  Which makes sense since I can see the actual pictures in the iPhoto content file (per the article mentioned above).  However, I didn't have my computer with me at the store to have a Genius person help me resolve the conflict.
BUT, if you can find the pictures, then maybe you can reimport them into iPhoto?  Just a thought.
    Good luck!
