Display the file extension?

Is there a way to display the file extension? I want to tag some as PSD files and I want to delete all gif files. Currently I am opening each in Photoshop elements to get the extension, which is very cumbersome. I know I can see the extension in finder, but I cannot assign keywords in finder.
Thanks

  • How to display the file contents???

    Hi all,
    I have a JSP page which is suppose to display resource contents on clicking of href like this:
    <td><a href="">Click here</td>But the problem is, these contents are stored some where on the hard disk of the system inside the folder \\LMS\Resources\doc\knowledge.doc.
    some other file I have like:
    \\LMS\Resources\pdf\display.pdf
    It can be any file (PDF,DOC,SOUND AUDIO).
    Can anyone please tell me how to open the contents of the file directly from href???
    Or I should use some other way to display those files.??I just want a way to start with.......
    Thanks in advance
    Namrata

    Hello Namrata,
    There are millions of ways to do this.
    1. You can create a shared drive in your server as "\\LMS\Resources" pointing to K Drive etc... You can write a simple servlet which picks up the relative path from "\\LMS\Resources" which is "pdf\display.pdf" and it can read the file and then based on the file extension it can resend the response mime type for the browser to pick it up. This can be done in both Windows and Unix environments.
    2. Have a Content Management System like Lotus Domino, Fatwire, etc and upload all contents and point the href to the Content Management System URL.
    3. You can upload the documents into a database as BLOB data and then use it to render content.
    4. You can also have a regular program which synchronizes the data from \\LMS into the Server hardware in a particular location.
    In Options 1, 3, 4 you need the servlet to render the content out to the Client browser.
    All this can be done based on the Technology environment, cost available to spend, Skill sets available and other factors.
    Do let me know if you need any more information
    Thanks,

  • What is the file extension for photoshop for the blanks following  the period in "photoshop,___"?    I have  an older desktop which includes older photoshop files which I have asked a technician to extract for me.  He asks for the extension.  I can't

    I ned the extension for the photoshop program, that is, the letters following the period as shown by the blanks in this:  "photoshop.____"   I cannot find the extension in my laptop.  The photoshop program is a couple of years old and my files are in a desktop out of use for a couple years.  I brought the desktop to a technician, asking him to extract the photos.  He asks me for the file extension.

    If you using Windows you can use the control panel Folder options or from Windows File explorer menu tools>Folder options view tab to change what Microsoft hide on you.  Have windows display extension. Apple hide information from users also.

    How do I add a movie from my laptop to iTunes, what should be the file extension.

    The extension is usually .mov, .m4v, or .mp4.   But you can't just change the extension.  The movies have to be encoded in a particular fomat.  Anything downloaded from iTunes or plays in Quicktime player will be fine.

    I am getting below error message while search crawl in sharepoint foundation 2010 search for only .VSD files and not for any other docs type.

    Hi Rashmi,
    1. Checked the file extension is added or not to the search file types.
    2. Checked file name has any invalid characters.
    3. Resetting the crawl index and run a full crawl .

  • Why do the file extensions (.jpg .gif .png) no longer appear when I click on a previously saved image to use that image's file name (particularly important when saving a series of images using the same root name)?

    I save a lot of images using firefox, often times from a large batch or series of images. It used to be that I would click on a previously saved image and the entire file name including the file extension (i.e. image_example.jpg) would appear in the "save as" line. Now when I click on a previously saved file, the file name appears without the file extension (i.e. image_example). Which means I have to manually type .jpg every time. For a large collection of images that I am hoping to use the same root file name and then add chronological numbers at the end, this has become incredibly frustrating, especially as it is a previously unnecessary task.
    I am using a new Macbook Pro and maybe there's something Apple related to this...? It did not happen on my old PowerBook G4. I have file extensions turned on in System Preferences.
    It should be noted that I have searched high and low and have even gone into the Apple Genius Bar where they were just confused as I was and of course ended by urging me to use Safari (shocker!) as it has all kinds of new extensions and bells and whistles. I seriously feel alone on an island with this dumb, hard to google problem. Thanks so much for any help anyone out there might have.
    I mean: is this as simple as changing a setting in about:config?
    Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks for your response Mylenium, however like I mentioned multiple times, I did change all of my trackpad/scrolling settings in system preferences.  And if I wanted to use a normal mouse (or a tablet), I would've gotten an iMac instead of a MacBook Pro.  I travel often and work all over the place, not always with access to a decently sized workspace that would be required for using a mouse or tablet.

  • How can I get the Organizer in Elements 12to display the file name and date of the thumbnail images?

    The View menu option to display the File Name is grayed out and thus I cannot display the file name.

    Hi,
    You need to go to View menu and check Details as well.
    You may even have to make the thumbnails larger by using the zoom slider at the bottom
    Good luck

  • How do I make the file extension (ie:  .tif, .jpg, .eps) in OS 9.2 visible?

    I'm trying to transfer files from an old G3 (OS 9.2) to a new G5 (OS 10.5.8). Most files do not show the extension in their name. For example, an Illustrator eps has the file name "layout_final". When I transfer it to the new machine, it recognizes it as an .EXE file and cannot open. If I type in the .eps file extension, where is now reads "layout_final.eps", it then opens in Illustrator. I don't want to have to resort to manually adding in the file extension to every file. Is there a way in OS 9.2 to automatically show/turn on the extension in the file name?
    Thanks for the help!
    Steve

    How are you transferring the files ?
    It sounds like you're going through some sort of Windows / DOS formatted media.
    If you can network the two Macs together instead, do so.
    If you can burn a CD or two on the Mac G3, do so.
    If you have to use a USB stick, format it to Mac HFS Extended (aka HFS+) on either and use that.
    The key is that if you transfer the files using something formatted for Mac, the file metadata should not be lost, and the files will appear on the G5 as expected, assuming that you have suitable apps to open the files in OSX 10.5

  • On ESR 17, the DOCX attachments in my e-mail (I use Optonline) ignores the file extension. (my e-mail works fine with IE). This was fine with Firefox 10.0

    I have been using Firefox for a long time. I installed ESR 17 recently. Since then I can't open DOCX files in my e-mail (optonline.net). It comes up as "eFax Messanger files". It obviously does not reconginze the file extension because whe i try to open it using Word it reads it as if it was a text file. If I use IE I have no problem opening the same attachment in my e-mail. I know atleast two other people who have the same problem.

    When attempting to open a hyperlink to a PDF file on the web from a Microsoft WORD for Mac 2011 (14.3.9) document, Safari 7.0 instead displays the file as text?

    As seen in http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/mac/forum/macoffice2011-macword/has-the-word- 2011-for-mac-invisible-toolbars/018a3ab6-0570-4ad5-abf8-5b6427fdde3e?msgId=e111b f0a-0e32-4fa3-9536-f349dad8439d
    and it worked for me:
    1. Quit Word
    2. In the Finder's menu bar, select Go > Go to folder and type or paste: ~/Library/Preferences/
    3. Click on Go
    4. Locate the preference file com.microsoft.Word.plist, then Option-drag it to the desktop to create a backup copy
    5. Go to Applications/Utilities and open Terminal
    6. Paste the following bold command at the $ prompt (it's a single line):
         defaults write com.microsoft.Word 14\\Toolbars\\Show_HIToolbar -boolean TRUE
    7. Press Return and then quit with Command Q
    8. Start Word and test. If the fix works, trash the backup file in the Desktop file. Otherwise, restore it.
    In the original source the author also mentions the change in Word 2008

  • Not to display the file name in the browser bar.

    Hello,
    Merry Christmas to all,
    Is it possible not to display the file name in the browser bar?
    Like say, when we write www.rediff.com, the index page name is not displayed.
    Likewise is it possible for any other page too.
    What I want is not to display any of the page name for the whole application.
    Whichever page is requested the page name should not appear in the address bar of the browser.
    How will I do that, what logics should I apply?
    Please suggest,
    Thanks,

    first, what does this have to do with Java?
    second, no; in order to display something, the browser needs to know where it is. and if it knows, then a user can find out too. maybe you can make it not show up in an address bar sometimes, but that really achieves nothing

  • Displaying the File Name in a Cell

    In version 2 of Numbers you used to be able to display the file name in a cell. If you copied a worksheet and gave it a new file name, that new name would automatically appear in the cell, so at a glance you could see which version of the worksheet you were looking at. As far as I can see that facility has gone in Version 3. Unless I have missed something?

    Hi Xabianblanca,
    Not *quite* as convenient but of course there is an easy partial workaround for this.
    Step 1. Click the triangle next to the document title:
    Step 2. Command-c. (the document name has already been selected for you).
    Step 3. Select the cell where you want to insert the document name and command-v.
    As for the Insert Date and Time menu pick there is a workaround that is just as easy to use as the original menu pick, after a quick one-time setup.
    See the other workarounds in that thread for some of the other features that weren't included in Numbers 3.0.

  • I'm having problems uploading video taken with my iPhone 4 to Photobucket.  FB will not accept the file extension which is ex. IMG_423.  They will play on my computer and will upload to Facebook.  Why is the phone taking video with this file instead of so

    I'm having problems uploading video taken with my iPhone 4 to Photobucket.  FB will not accept the file extension which is ex. IMG_423.  They will play on my computer and will upload to Facebook.  Why is the phone taking video with this file instead of something like .mov or mp4.  How can I change the extension after the fact and avoid it in the future?

    You said, "the 4 also has signal and wifi whereas the 5 has only wifi". By "signal", I'm assuing that you mean cellular signal. If so, that means your iPhone 4 is still active on your cellular number and your iPhone 5 is not. Contact your carrier to sort out which phone is active on your account.

  • How to display the file status in the status bar?

    Hi all,
    Can anyone tell me how to display the file status in the status bar?
    The file status can consists: the type of the file, the size of the file etc..
    thanx alot..

        class StatusBar extends JComponent {
              JLabel l = new JLabel("ready");
            public StatusBar() {
                  super();
                  setLayout(new BoxLayout(this, BoxLayout.X_AXIS));
                  add(l);
              public void setText( String prompt ) {
                   l.setText(prompt);
                   setVisible( true );
            public void paint(Graphics g) {
                  super.paint(g);
        }

  • Batch Rename with additional "."s, drops the file extension. Request for "Keep File Extension" option...

    I NEVER name files with extra "." s in the name. I realize that all OS's (even Windows) will recognize it, but I haven't gotten out the old mindset of 8.3 filenaming... Although I do use longer names. So... I was surprised to see that when I was renaming files as per a clients naming preference to add a period within the name, the file extension is removed.
    For example:
    original file -  2014_10_31_1643.CR2   when batch renaming to "2014.31" + sequence, drops the "CR2" extension.
    but.... if I change it to "2014_31" + sequence, the ".CR2" remains
    Since adding multiple "." is a legitimate naming convention, shouldn't the file extension remain?  Or, possibly this could be made more flexible by adding a check box "Keep file extension"
    just a thought.

    Refer to this stackexchange article:
    http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/47319/how-can-i-make-os-x-recognize-new -file-extensions
    The finder will only select the filename only for "known" file types.
