Display too dim

I am running Windows Vista in Boot Camp on a mini. The display is an Apple Studio Display connected to the mini via an Apple DVI to ADC Adaptor. The keyboard is an Apple Pro Keyboard with no brightness controls. After Windows boots, I login, the desktop comes up, and then the display automatically dims to its lowest setting. Pressing the button on the display, which brings up Displays Preferences in OSX does nothing in Windows. The Boot Camp Control Panel in Windows has no brightness controls. I am running Boot Camp 2.2. The display is too dim to get any work done. Any ideas how I can brighten the display?

  • Display too dim for the latest MBP 13" retina

Bought the latest mbp 13" retina yesterday and I found the display is too dim even I change the brightness to the brightest,
it's more obvious when I compare it with my late 2010 mba as it looks more bright on the mba even its not on full brightness,
any other way that I could tune for a more brighter display for my mbp?
    Cheers.

  • Itunes 12 album name too dim to read

I'm having the same problem now with iTunes 12 I have with iTunes on my iPhone.  The song title is displayed quite prominently and underneath in "grayed out" fashion" is the artists name and album title.  My problem is the grayed out info is too dim to read in well lit areas.  For instance outside in the case of the iPhone.  Since upgrading to iTunes 12.0.1, the same problem has been transported to my desktop.  If I have the curtains open on a sunny day, or a strong light on my desktop area, the grayed out artist name and album name are just too dim to make out.
Am I missing a setting somewhere?

Had exact same problem, driving me crazy and then I found solution:
iTunes Preferences: General and make sure that the "Use custom colors for open albums, movies, etc." checkbox is checked.
Give it a few and that will fix it.

  • Laptop display got dimmed, and never able to boot up

    I have HP DV4 Pavilion 1436TX.
While running, the display got dimmed until I could barely see anything, turned black. I shut it down through power button. Now I am not able to boot it up anymore. There is no LED light anywhere, even at the power plug. I took it to service center; they said they could fix, but charged very costly, and they won't reveal where the laptop goes wrong except that it's mother board problem. I cancelled the repair, but a guy briefly checked my laptop by turning it on. It booted up for while with blue screen something like "CMOS Reset... Invalid", then it went dimmed again, and won't boot up again.
Could this be the CMOS battery problem or other components? How can I identify the problem?

I understand that your notebook does not boot up.   You took it in to be serviced  but the repair was too costly and you declined to have them repair it.
When you try to boot it up you do see the error"CMOS... reset Invalid".
You could try googling the error for additional information.

  • Picture too dim from apple TV

I just bought an Apple TV.  It works ad advertised.  The only problem is that the picture is too dim.  It is not too dim for other hdmi inputs from the TV and Blu Ray, just from the Apple TV.  I've tried it in different HDMI ports but the result is the same.  I've gone to the Apple TV settings, but there is nothing to adjust there.  I do not want to adjust the TV brightness settings everytime I want to watch Apple TV.  Any thoughts about what to do about this?
    Thank you,
    Dan Neunaber

Can't check the menu at the moment, but try changing the output settings:
Change the Apple TV HDMI output settings:
On your Apple TV menu, go to Settings > Audio & Video.
Scroll down to the HDMI Output menu and use the Select button on your Apple Remote to cycle through the following options: Auto, YCbCr, RGB High, RGB Low.
When cycling through the HDMI Output options, your TV may take a short period of time to adjust to the new color profile.

  • Attached images display too large

when using mail in os 10.4, if someone sends me a message with pictures attached, they are at a size that you can see the whole picture when you scroll down in the message. if i forward that email to someone, the pictures display too large and you cannot see the whole image in the message. is there a setting for this somewhere?
    thanks

Ah thanks, maybe I was experimenting with too small of pics!?
    Hmm, interesting...
Mail will remebember the size and will automatically use it the next time you attach an image if you forget to manually change it back.
And if the last setting was small, the menu may be there, but will have no effect since you cannot Scale up!
Yes, it works only for downsizing.
Also, it seems that if the pic is in quoted nesting the size setting has no effect!?
On Mac OS X 10.5 and later it works regardless of quotation. If it does not on Mac OS X Tiger, it must be a bug that was fixed later.

i have a table of 5 columns and 2 rows
it is placed on a scrollpane and then in an internal frame
the result is a table that is displayed too small (height=32 == getPreferredSize().height)
if i add a pack() statement then it is displayed too big, width is ok but height =~ 500 (should be approx. 100
    what to do?

thank you! i like the one-liner!

  • Display keeps dimming after 30 seconds, randomly!

After 30 seconds or so, the brightness will dim. I know this can be turned off (at least I think), but I can't figure out what is causing it. It also seems to be random, but that may just be my imagination.
How can I keep my display from dimming after 30 seconds? Thanks.
    Ryan

You might try to reset the SMC and/or PRAM.

  • Nokia C7's display suddenly dims out even in brigh...

I was using my C7 outdoors(in bright light) when I suddenly noticed that its display had totally dimmed out. Light sensor was not covered with anything. The other functions of the phone were working fine but the display stayed dim for approx 3 minutes and it got alright by itself.
Now today, it happened for the fourth time.
I am wondering if anything is wrong with the light sensor or the AMOLED display.
I have heard of LCDs blacking out because they have back light or something. But never heard of AMOLED's doing that.
Please guide me as my phone is still under warranty period and its going to expire very soon. If my AMOLED fails after my warranty period, it's going to be very costly...
    Thanks in advance.

yeah.. i'll do that if issue crops up again. Bcz it occurs not that frequently, it will be really tough explaining the issue to Nokia care guys.. its been 10 months already and my nokia care still can't see purple patches in my display...

  • Display problems dimming/burring

My 17' g5 early 2006 model is almost new out of box and the display burrs and dims changing size slightly in and out -making me dizzy. I hear a clicking noise when this happens sometimes once every few seconds. It randomly stops and starts. Tried many solutions which all failed. I was on phone with apple techs. for several hours ---four calls total. The only local place that works on them here in Gainesville, Fl. is backed up for weeks and I'm going into my third week on waiting list. The other places involve up to 8 hours of driving. Apple Co. has been no help. Really frustrated and feeling ripped off.

  • IPhone 5 with iOS 8 - Auto Brightness too dim / dark

    Hi all,
I just updated my iPhone 5 to iOS 8 and the auto brightness makes the screen too dark and hard to read.  This was not an issue with iOS 7 on my phone.  I've tried using some of the calibration tips online, but none seem to help.
When I am outside, it's fine, it will automatically adjust the brightness all the way up.  The issue is inside, then the auto-brightness will make the screen too dim to be able read very well.
I know I could turn off the auto brightness feature and manually adjust the brightness, but I really liked the feature with iOS 6 and iOS 7.
Is anyone else having this issue?  Any tricks I could do to fix this, or is this just an issue with iOS 8 on iPhone 5s?  It would be nice if Apple gave us more control with auto brightness, like maybe letting us set the min and max brightness when it is on auto.
I did see this post from jedi31780 where his iOS 8 auto brightness isn't adjusting at all, but other than that, I haven't see any other posts online about this yet.
    iOS 8 Brightness
    Thanks

Thanks!  I went into settings under brightness when I was in a room where I felt the iPhone was too dim and I moved the brightness up till I was happy with it. it now uses that as a baseline and adjusts from there instead of where it was before, so no longer too dim. I thought I already tried that before, but either I adjusted it again to thy the calibration steps, or maybe I adjusted it from the "control center" screen and maybe that one doesn't save.
Either way, all is good now. Thanks for the tip!

  • Leopard too dim?

My monitors are at their brightest and yet Leopard still seems way too dim compared to tiger. I edit with final cut pro and now my video is much darker than before. Does anybody know any settings in leopard to adjust the brightness? Thanks!

Agreed...not as bright. It may be due in part to the "Dark Side" look of the new GUI. The menu bar and all windows have very heavy drop shadows. I am using the calibration profile created in 10.4 using the Spyder2Pro and the screen is not nearly as bright even with the brightness punched up to the max which, under 10.4, would require at least an SPF20 sunblock and dark shades. I am going to re-calibrate in the next day or so (assuming that the Spyder2 software works under 10.5) and will report....

  • Display keeps dimming

I am trying to watch tv on my imac with eyetv 2, but the display keeps dimming after about 2 mins. I have the screen saver set to come on after 2 hours and i also have set it to 2 hours to set the screen to sleep. How can i stop the screen from dimming when i am trying to watch tv. I must note this is only when i am wathing it in a window and not full screen. Any help would be great.

I think that there is a glitch in the Energy Saver system pref.
My Mac dims the screen after about 60 seconds, regardless of whether the check box to dim the screen is selected in Options or not. This is irritating when reading news articles, watching video, etc.
The fix is, as Barry said in his first post. Go to System Prefs/Energy Saver/Options and check the box Automatically reduce..., then exit the Energy Saver prefs by selecting Show All or quitting System Prefs. Then return to System Prefs/Energy Saver/Options, uncheck the box and quit System Prefs. Your screen should not dim any more.
However, if you restart the Mac, the problem will return and you have to go through the fix again to get it to stop.
